Across three different situations, and through the faithful missions extension of Paul and company, the Gospel meets communities uniquely where they are. God's faithful reach to all people is greatly highlighted this weekend, and is the sort of thing that each of us has the opportunity to participate in. God meets individuals and communities in the midst of their unique questions, and then so much more!
Facing hardship, opposition, and violence, Paul and Silas find themselves imprisoned, only to take that opportunity to begin a midnight prayer and worship night. That point, that moment served as the pivot-point for everything in the story. Then and now, the truest Freedom Fighters proclaim that worship changes everything!
The fingerprints of God are found all over the movements of the very-early-church. In this weekend’s passage we find God powerfully prohibiting, redirecting, and opening peoples’ way to his will. Where are God’s fingerprints in our own lives? Where are we yielding to his surpassing power?

Joseph was in for quite the rude interruption with the pregnancy of his fiancé, Mary. But God met him in the midst of his doubt and pain and brought him divine reassurance. Joseph’s experience reminds us that while God doesn’t always do EASY – He does always do FAITHFUL!
Mary was an incredibly impressive teenager, harshly interrupted and yet humbly submissive to the promises that God was giving her. Her call to ‘magnify the Lord’ leads us to a weekend of reflection, perspective, gratitude, and praise.
In this Advent Series (Divine Interruptions) we will focus on the angelic messengers who foretold of the coming of Jesus - each bringing the “Good News” that would radically change (a.k.a. INTERRUPT) and shape the lives of those who heard and received it. We will explore the different ways the people responded, the different positions they found themselves in, and ultimately the unexpected way the creator of the universe came to rescue his people.
On Paul and Barnabas’s first Missionary Journey they encounter a people understandably all over the place without a firm foundation upon Jesus. Ultimately the truth they must come to not just cognitively believe but practically live out is, ‘If God has come in the likeness of man, listen to Him!’
In the midst of vast expansion and an explosion of influence of the early church… comes conflict. For the church, then and now, it is critical that we know who it is that we are facing in conflict, and that we ‘fight’ accordingly.
Peter yet again is miraculously rescued from what would've been certain martyrdom under Herod. Elsewhere there are people of the church that tragically lose their life to the fury of persecution coming against the young church. This is a lesson of the sovereignty of God - So how can we make sense of his reign when he seems to act at some points and not at others? Join us on this journey this weekend.
We assume God’s will is to take us the shortest, most efficient distance between where we are, who we’re dealing with, what it takes, to where he wants us to be. But God often uses inefficiencies and detours, because he’s INVITING! God’s purposes and his church are supposed to take what he does in and through us from the INSIDE-OUT!

Experiencing the fruit of gentleness stands in opposition to aggression and dominance. And yet a gentle response can be strong, firm, and clear - but without any of the harmful aspects attached to those things. Especially these days, it seems like there is not a lot of gentleness going around - which is why it is such radical experience and development for us all.
Especially in Christian circles, we proclaim God’s faithfulness (his worthiness of our belief, our trust) - and rightfully so. But just because this may be true, what happens when we are not seeing it or experiencing it? What are we supposed to do when God isn’t showing up like we thought he would?
What is 'goodness'? How do we define this flavor of the Fruit of the Spirit? In order to grasp what it is we are experiencing in the goodness of God, we need to first come to grips with how God defines goodness (instead of our own definitions and standards). From there, because we increasingly look like those we are around the most, we will increasingly see goodness grow in us and through us.
If we allow ourselves to focus on how God’s kindness is lavished upon us as a response to our sin, we will discover how incomparably rich we are – and how rich in kindness we can afford to be.
Among all of the Fruits of the Spirit, 'patience' tends to be the one most people desire the least. But more than something we need to work on, the patience of the Lord towards us and within us develops something entirely different than what our flesh or the world can offer. Right before the final moment of Jesus’ life, he utters a cry to the Lord that is the most shocking moment of his life: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” The implications of what he endured in that moment, the ripple-effect that it has upon our lives, and the unique ways that our stories impact others is all truly ‘A Story To Tell’!
The reign of Jesus allows us to rightly re-place God on the throne of our lives. The only question is whether we will fight or welcome his reign.

What we believe about death must be informed by the words of the one who comes from God and conquered death. In looking at Jesus's response to challenges from the Sadducees, Pastor Brent takes us on an exploration of the most applicable topic possible.

As a special stand-alone week, we hear from Dr. Jerry Root on personal evangelism. All of us have a story in faith and have a responsibility to share it because 'this stuff matters and it matters forever.'
Turning around a ‘trap-question’ from the Pharisees, Jesus teaches his people about the most intimate of relationships from God’s point of view. In fact, Jesus continues using all kinds of object lessons to show his people kingdom values and that everything is far richer by his hand than our own!
Infighting can be so easy to do because these people are closest to us (and have the tendency to cause friction). But Jesus continues to lead his disciples - then and now - in a way that addresses what we should really be opposing - SIN. Take your own sin seriously and continue to lean into Kingdom connection with one another.
Amidst the disciples' struggle to position themselves as the greatest of Jesus followers, Jesus continues to retrain their minds and hearts based on Kingdom principles. One cannot be great in the Kingdom without lifting others up ahead of themselves (and no one did this more than Jesus himself).

God meets us in the middle of our struggles and needs. He invites us beyond just met-needs into surpassing power and love!

Facing the pivotal question of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus now intends on taking all those who would follow him much deeper into an understanding of his purpose and call on their lives. Each of us must find our own answer to The Mark Question.
In a heightened time of developing understanding within his disciples, Jesus heals a blind man in two stages. Could this be an enacted parable to instill in the disciples – and us – that seeing things clearly is a process that is wholly dependent upon him?
In a shocking interaction, it seems that Jesus is being quite rude (if not even racist) to a woman. Pastor Brent helps us see that in this very incident Jesus is in fact breaking the back of such thinking and initiating radical inclusion - by which ALL PEOPLE are now included and welcomed into the family of God!
Throughout Mark’s Gospel we see Jesus doing great signs and wonders and we also see him teaching. If his great mastery over all things is proven in the signs and wonders, we must allow whatever he teaches to take root across all of our lives!

Yet the temptation of our flesh and the world around us will be to distract us. How can we strive to ensure the planting of the Lord takes root and flourishes in us and through us?
In this weekend's passage we encounter continued (and even surprising) pushback against Jesus. How can His people ensure that we are unreservedly following God’s will, and not slip into wayward and even evil resistance?
Spending with Jesus may seem like a basic practice, but there is incomparable power when we ensure we stay connected to the Lord (and seriously dangerous threats when we remain separated from him). Join us in this exploration as we encounter the profound simplicity of spending time with Jesus.
As soon as he steps onto the ministry and preaching scene, Jesus is being targeted. In perfect wisdom and grace he clarifies that the things the Father gives to his people (commands and blessings) are fully for their good. If you are someone hesitant to engage because of musical preferences, each of our preferences can afford diversity in order to be made more beautiful. Everybody join in!

In a time where absolute truth seems fleeting or deemphasized, Pastor Donny calls believers to ‘stay true to the truth’. This weekend we explore what that means and how to stay anchored to the critical tenants of our faith with the posture and tone of Christ.
We live in the period of history in which we are awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus. As we explore how we know about his return (and examine what’s taking so long), we will find ourselves in the posture of living ready and waiting purposely.
In addition to people finding themselves in the miraculous presence of God, in stories like the paralyzed man and his friends in Mark 2, we see friends playing a major role in the life-changing movement of God. This makes us consider what does it mean to be a really great friend and where do we find such discernment?
Synopsis: Humanity is unique in all of creation in the way in which we are representatives God (of course, never perfectly). Moreover, Jesus – God become human – is the EXACT imprint of God’s Nature (Heb.1:3). What this means for us and how we respond will actually flesh itself out in some very basic, practical ways.
Wind is a powerful force in nature and has played a pivotal role in many epic scenes found in the Scriptures. The Hebrew word for wind is Ruach. But it's also a word used to describe breath and Spirit. All three of these depict the movement of God.

Is all the worry and preoccupation and stress around us and within us really what God wants for us? If we can quiet ourselves enough, what is it that God would really say to our hearts? Given his understanding, and compassion, and almighty power, will I entrust myself and all sense of control to him?

As followers of Jesus we not only can but must find and participate in the surpassing contentment that comes from the power of the Spirit alone.
As we look at the encounter Elijah had with overwhelming depression, we find that even when the journey is too much for you, it is not too much for the Spirit that resides within you.

That tomb-stone that had closed the tomb, enclosed the crucified body – that served as a definitive and horrible ‘thud’ to any hope – THAT very same tomb-stone was rolled back to the side. The resilience – the integrity – the ‘wholeness’ of your faith as we’ve been talking about throughout this entire series, is tested and proven amidst hardships – like sickness. In a season where this is particularly relevant, we look at the way the local church has always found ways to head towards those suffering illness with the love and power of Jesus.
Whole people trust God for tomorrow - ‘Trust God’ being the emphasis of this title, not ‘for tomorrow’, because James’s point is that that isn’t promised. But one thing that is promised - that we especially trust God for - is that Jesus WILL return. So ‘Live beyond the mist’ (James 4:14)!
This world is not our home. According to Matthew 24:14 the way home is through the nations. Jesus came to redeem a multitude from all peoples, languages, and cultures to Himself (Revelation) and it cost Him dearly. We are invited to join Him in His missionary redemption plan, and as it cost Jesus, it will cost us. We are going to have to fight as Jesus fought, bleed as Jesus bled, and pray as Jesus prayed. If we will do so among and for the 6500 unreached people groups of earth (who total 3.2 billion people), King Jesus will return, and we can all go home.

We expect wisdom to primarily be a conceptual matter, dealing with our thought-life. But when James calls us to wisdom in this weekend’s passage, he deals more with our relational and character posture. This weekend, ask yourself: If it REALLY is his Kingdom that he’s building and it REALLY is his life living through you (not your own), how would you live differently? That’s wisdom!

We operate with a different value system from our culture- and it should be evident in how we treat one another. The question for us to consider: is it? Who are we overlooking?
