Meet my friend Alyssa who has such a soft and gentle spirit, she challenged us with a few questions during this weeks episode that I believe are very useful for many of us, no matter where we are on our faith walk. She asks, “Is there a difference between your life getting easier and your life getting better?” As I interviewed Alyssa she talks about how walking with Jesus isn’t necessarily easier, but its better because we have tools to cope with the fact that it is not easier. “The journey is not better than the destination.”

Alyssa shares one of her favorite verses from John 15:18, “if the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you.”

“The worlds hatred,” she says, “is about knowing that you do not live for the world, you live for God. You are just passing through to get to something eternal.”

This is not just a podcast for teens, it’s for adults who are wanting to better understand the hearts, minds, and challenges of today’s youth. I pray this episode move you.

Oh, How He Loves Us So.

A few days ago, the Lord told me while we journaled together that my “peace and joy are of the utmost importance to him.” He wanted me to experience these gifts and the fruits of his spirit.

I felt so loved in that moment. It was important to him that I was able to experience both peace and joy in my life.

On this week’s episode, we take a look at a few verses from the message translation in Isaiah 44 and 45. There was a line that stopped me in my tracks.

“Come back to me, come back. I’ve redeemed you.”

Would we turn back from our ways? Would we learn to seek him? Would we be brave enough to stop going at it in our own way??

I see the Lord simply calling his children home to him. He doesn’t need us but he wants us.

His love for us is so deep, pure, life-changing and transformational.

It is already yours, would you grab hold of it and seek him fully?

The Lord is inviting us all into a deeper and more meaningful relationship with him. Over the last few weeks, I have been asked to put things aside while I seek him in the secret place.

This time together with him is sacred, as he shares his heart and heals deep seated wounds that were still gushing (unbeknown to me). The secret place is a place of complete surrender in the quiet of your heart, learning to hear his voice with clarity and distinction and putting down the things that keep getting in the way of that relationship.

He is inviting you into something deeper, richer, and more fulfilling than this world will ever be, but it comes with a cost. Jesus warns us about being lukewarm for his kingdom.

I don’t want you to be lukewarm or cold, I want you to know the deep riches of the love of our Father who waits for us patiently with long-suffering.

Are you willing to pay the cost to step into full redemption on the other side?

If we do not devote ourselves to him then everything else is “meaningless, meaningless, meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1), we must learn to seek him above ALL else.

I hear many people ask questions like, “What is my purpose? What should I do? Where do I go?”

You have a divine calling within you to love the Lord your God with ALL of your heart, all of your might, and all of your strength.

Our purpose is to worship him and to seek him, to give him the glory in all that we do. I pray that this episode invite you into something that changes your heart for the Lord in a deeply transformative way. I know it will not come without difficulty and pain, but his tender love will heal even the deepest of wounds and it is worth it, HE is worth it.

In Christ, we are overcomers.

As I sit on my bathroom floor to record this episode, a past version of myself would have found great sadness, and debilitating self-doubt in this circumstance.

But with Jesus, we can find gratitude for even these small moments that do not define us, but refine us for his kingdom purposes. I cannot help but laugh at this moment in time.

I have always been my own worst enemy, listening to the lies that have kept me debilitated by feelings of lack and self-deprication. It has been a long journey of learning that my thoughts do not always align with how God sees me. Someone said to once to me like this, “you might be wrong about you.”

I have to look really hard sometimes to see the truth behind the lies of condemnation that i’ve believed about myself. Lies that believe I am not good enough, or that my body is broken, or that I don’t belong.

Condemnation is not our sentence.

I can choose for the chains to hold me back, which I have done before, OR I can choose Him.

I can choose Him, fully.

I can move past the lie with the truth, that he loves me because he loves me because he loves me and that my circumstance do not define me, but only HE can.

Learning to trust that we are his, a hard lesson that I had to learn as an adult in my faith journey. Our God has been so gracious to me as I’ve navigated paths in my own life, seeking to find meaning and purpose, without Him.

As a young person, there was a part of myself that would flourish during a week a way at camp. I would watch how my faith would be strengthened ten fold, until moments of being home and coming back to the “real world.”

“Jesus freak,” they’d say.

There was a part of myself that loved the Lord but I often left her at camp. I was neglecting that part of who I was, and it has impacted my heart for years since then.

Working with young people is so heavy on my heart because I can speak to a moment in my own life that could have shifted drastically If I would have been reminded that…

-I would never fit into the world.

-Seeking after worldly things WOULD happen.

-Following Jesus was a choice.

-That the part of myself that loved Jesus was who I was, deep down.

But, he is the God that writes perfect stories, and redemption is in his blood. We are made new in him, and with him. The part of myself that loves Jesus is the part of myself I get to live out now. Having waited many painful years, it was worth it to learn a hard but beautiful truth.

It was my identity as his child I was seeking, and it was the identity of his child that was found.

A practice of quieting our mind and resting in the spirit is something that can take time, I felt strongely that the body of Christ was needing encouragement and some quiet time of reflection and connecting with the spirit. (I needed this, too)!

The nervous system needs time to turn off, reset, and get restablished. We can use prayer as a means to connect deeply with the Holy Spirit in the secret place, to find refreshing for our soul, and allow our bodies (our temple) to enter into deep and healing rest.

I want to invite you into that today. Are you feeling worn out, tired, weary, or in need of deep spiritual refreshing?

Then find 20 minutes in the next few days to find a quiet spot, free from distractions, and allow yourself to sit and rest. Invite your spouse, family member, or a friend to join you and when you are done use these few reflection questions if you’d like to discuss:

  • How was that for you?
  • What was the most difficult part?
  • What did the Holy Spirit reveal to you?
  • When can you make time in your schedule to connect deeply like this? What would that look like?

I pray this is a deep moment of refreshment for your soul, Jesus, we thank you for these moments to remember that are only called, “to be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

A warning from Jesus in Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Even though our hearts and our spirits are willing to do this work, our flesh is weak and is in direct opposition to the spirit. We are constantly being tempted to be pulled back into the sinful nature and settle into the ways of this world.

Our spiritual disciples are so important, and we must get comfortable with taking conscious inventory of our spiritual health, seeking to continue to grow in deeper and more intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven.

Perhaps you are taking time to skim over the pages and check off that you read your Bible, but are you taking what you are reading and truly applying it to your life?

Are the words sinking in?

Do you actually understand what it is saying?

Are you truly loving your neighbors as yourself?

Do you know what it means to be loved?

Do you love God in that same way?

We must learn to mature in our faith and seek the deeper truths, as we do, we continue to grow and step further into the purposes that our Father has for us.

Paul tells the church of Ephesus in Ephesians 4:14 , “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

It is through him that his eternal kingdom will emerge, as we seek to speak the truth in love and mature into who Christ intends for us to be for the equipping of the saints, and the maturing of the body.

The thing about God is that he doesn’t expect our perfection but our desperate need for his.

When we try to be in control of everything and seek perfection in our life, we are not walking out faith and the full truth of the gospel.

In Genesis 9, the Father establishes a new covenant and promised us that he would never flood the earth again, and although we have turned our back on him and chose to go our own way, he still had a plan for reconciliation from the very beginning.

His plan for redemption and reconciliation was fulfilled through the life of Jesus, the Fathers will is perfect and yet, he offers us free will because he wants us to be in a relationship with him. Being in a relationship with him means freedom to choose and our God desires to be chosen.

When the Father looks at you he sees the perfect spotless lamb of Jesus. He gives us new robes, he makes us clean, and when we don’t acknowledge his promise, we miss out on his entire character that made room for you, me, and the new life promised to us through Jesus.

This episode will leave you challenged to look at, “What is getting in the way?” in your own life and how God is drawing you nearer to himself.

Today while I was on my run, I heard myself speaking encouragement over my spirit that sounded a lot like mantras from my days wrapped up in the new age and wellness space.

The mantras I was using (back then) were a band-aid to the hurt but they weren’t healing the wound because I wasn’t aware of the wound.

Today, the difference was that they carried a tangible weight to them because the words were prompted by the Holy Spirit. They weren’t empty, they carried a medicine, a healing for my spirit and soul because they carried the truth of scripture and the truth of who God says that I am.

I know what Jesus says about me. He calls me who I am. So after a long season of learning to deny the self while learning who HE was, I heard the truth of scripture in a way that truly brought healing balm to my wounding, something I was DESPERATE for.

A familiar mantra might sound like, “I am strong”

But when we pair that with the truth of scripture, “Where I am weak, he is strong” I don’t need to be strong, I need to know who He is.

The new age wants you to focus on yourself, God wants us to focus on Him. He fills in the gap.

I pray that this episode bring you clarity on the lie and need that lives underneath the mantra.

“Why isn’t my ‘good’ good enough?”

A question that has left me in long seasons of defeat and disappointment, as I’ve sought outside validation to feelings that were confusing. I hadn’t realized that behind my “good” wasn’t what God claimed to be good, but instead what the world claimed good to be.

It took a lot of time seeking out the Lord and his character to truly understand why the standards I was holding were not in alignment with who he tells us that he is. The more time we spend in the word the clearer his character becomes.

In this week’s episode, we take a look at a verse in Micah and in the gospel of John that help us get a clearer vision of who the Lord and what he requires of us.

His kindness and mercy help us to continue seeking his will day in and day out. My pastor always tells us that mercy sounds like this, “I know what I am, don’t hold it against me.”

Although we are not perfect humans, full of mistakes and errors, the God of the Bible made us good. Take a listen to this weeks episode and be reminded that he calls you good in the first few pages of the book.

Join Corey and I this week as we reflect on how both of us deeply resonate with being “the prodigal son” and how this story has revealed a depth to God’s character that focuses on redemption.

As we reflect on the last year, we can see clearly that God has been building a more solidified foundation for us to stand on.

In our idenity, our marriage, our family, in community, in a local church, in our finances, in the way that we show up to the world, and he is so gracious and patient with us.

The story of the prodigal son is such a testament to the Father’s goodness. When the son returns, he is met with joy and open arms. The Father clothes him, puts on a feast, hosts a party, he sings and tells his community that his Son has returned!

This is the way that God welcomes us back to the Kingdom!

Paul writes to Titus about this in Titus 3:4,

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”

There is nothing that we can do to earn it, he saved us because of his good mercy. We pray this episode be a reminder of the depth of which our Father will go to call his children home.

The Wound of Rejection

When I asked God what to talk about on this week’s podcast, this was his response.

“They ‘love me’ but hate who I created them to be, so they hate me in them.”

Ouch.

On this week’s podcast, we talk about the wound of rejection and how it can seriously impact our relationship with God and the way that we talk out our faith in our everyday life.

We take a look at a moment where Jesus was rejected by his disciple Peter and how his gracious love still covered him and still allowed for a new name.

What happens when your obedience and your “yes” later brings a closed door?

Often times, we allow our imagination and creativity to run rampant when God opens a door for us. With answered prayers of clarity, we start to see a projected timeline and a life that leaves us sure of this new life we are seeking, we neglect to leave room for God to do what only he can do.

What happens when that door closes after we’ve done the thing that we are asked? We keep ourselves in patterns of looping when we put “all of our eggs in one basket” only to be let down when the grace lifts from a scenario.

It is our obedience to the moment that we are called to. There is always a lesson for us to learn, sometimes the lesson will come with a door that was initially open that is now ready to shut. We must learn the lesson, without attaching to the outcome and the preceived safety net that comes with “clarity” in a situation.

This is really hard to do and it can easily cause us to question and doubt our initial “yes.”

Your inner dialogue might sound something like,

“Did I hear him wrong?”

“Was that my own selfish ambition?”

“Did God really say??”

^ ALL of these sound a lot like Eve’s conversation with the enemy in the garden, when he intentionally sowed seeds of doubt and caused her to question what she heard.

God doesn’t change, with your yes or your no, he still desires obedience, trust, and faith. You are the one that will change.

What would happen if we were so willing to be obedient that we stopped seeking his favor, and started seeking his heart? It would require us to know him in a deeper and more meangingful way.

Living in the alignment of God

What does it mean to live in the alignment of God? This is an episode jam-packed with questions for you to ponder.

When I was radically saved from the new age, I was living deeply in mixture, without realizing it. Because I knew there was one God and that he had sent his Son for me, I believed that these tools and techniques (crystals, tarot cards, praying to Hindu gods) were helping me to reach him, only to find out that the enemy used them to keep me far from God.

This is an episode with the heart of helping you to draw nearer to him. That often means looking at the places of belief in our minds currently challenging these ideas. What lies do we believe about our journey?

I would bet that these lies are not serving, and are extremely detrimental to your mental health.

In this week’s episode, we will dive into questions like,

-Are your words and actions in alignment with the will of the Father?

-What is the will of the Father?

-Am I willing to learn?

-Where am I still living in mixture?

-What is his will for my life?

-How am I showing up to my relationship with God?

These questions will help to reveal the hidden truths in our broken hearts, and when we learn them, we can take Paul’s teachings from his second letter to the Corinthians and put them into practice, taking the thoughts captive and making them obedient to Christ.

Healing is available through the finishing work of the cross.

We can’t be wounded soldiers, we have to be strong, courageous, bold, humble, and submitted to the spirit. Perhaps we have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this.

Ephesians 6:12 tells us, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Corey joins us on this week’s episode, as we share our experience of leading worship on the capital steps for a national event from “Her Voice Movement” intended to empower women (Esther’s) to use their voice to stand in the gap for their children. It was an emotionally charged event, focused on reformation and repentance towards the church. It was a very difficult but beautiful day, besides the human spirit having an experience, on all sides, both Corey and Shauna share their experience of taking a very bold step of faith that would challenge their heart for unity amongst those who are called children of God.

This is a spiritual battle, we are not fighting a person but a principality. Please hear our heart and if you’d like to discuss any parts of this further and find common ground, reconciliation through Christ is the work of the cross.

I just need to give Him the glory.

There are some moments in your life that you just need to bask in his glory and goodness, and I am having one of those weeks this week.

In the same week, I became a published author for the first time, and Corey and I led worship on the capital steps here in Wisconsin. I’ll circle back about the capital next week, but this week we are going to focus on the writing aspect and just how good he is.

It was last July when I started writing this article that would later be published in The Depth Issue of “The Truly Co” Magazine. I felt a need to follow through on a task and prove to myself (with the loving nudge of the Holy Spirit) to consider myself a Christian writer. I started writing this article, and much to my surprise, it was chosen to be published and I couldn’t wait.

In this week’s episode, I read through the article shared about my journey of making it to this point and reflected on how God writes a bigger story than we could ever imagine.

"AMERICA IS NINEVAH" I heard the Lord say.

It was 1:30 in the morning on 3/31/2024, I woke up to the sound of knocking in my spirit, “Nahum” I heard over and over again.

A book of the prophets that I have read but couldn’t recall. As I opened my book the story of Jonah grabbed my attention and Jonah’s blatant disobedience to God’s heart to save the 120,000 people of Nineveh. After finishing the book of Jonah I continued onto the prompt the spirit was leading.

Nahum means “comfort” and is short for Nehemiah, meaning “Comfort of Yahweh.”

After reading Nahum through, God showed me two verses that are relevant for today and for the prompting of the Word the Lord gave me below.

Nahum 2:1 tells us, “An attacker advances against you, Ninevah. Guard the fortress, watch the road, brace yourselves, marshal all your strength.”

Nahum 3:13 says, “Look at your troops— they are all women!”

“AMERICA IS NINEVAH"

"I am raising up a remnant of women who hear my voice and fear me and are willing to do whatever it is that I say to do, at the sound of my bell. I have heard their cries and will pour out my spirit on this thirsty generation desperate for mothers who are not a harlot, eager to do my will and unashamed of the message I have put on their hearts to minister to my many children.

This great nation was founded on faith, liberty, prosperity, and the pursuit of happiness and the lack of joy in this nation is evident of the enemies hand that has continued to chain my people and kept them idolizing man-made objects and themselves in a way that must stop this day.

For your cries have made it to my throne room and I am ready to make a judgment."

ABBA FATHER. We cry out to you.

Can you hear us?

Have you ever asked God this question before? “God, are you there?? It is getting pretty weird talking to myself over here.”

^ Welcome to my prayer life. LOL

But walking with God can get messy, especially when we lack the depth of understanding that comes from knowing his true heart. God’s character is scattered throughout the Bible, it acts as a treasure hunt of goodness waiting to be revealed. When you search him out, he reveals deeper truths. Often, we are not willing to look for the depth of him and we wonder where he is. Walking with God is a daily pursuit, meant to strengthen our faith with each new day. But what happens when we lose faith? When we experience hope-deffered? When our knees, hands, and feet grow weary?

Provers 13:12 tells us, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”

I have experienced this deep aching in my heart for a long time, when the Lord called me back, I was already in a pretty hopeless place. I had looked for the world to fulfill me for so long and found only faith the size of a mustard seed. I faced grief, shame, pain, and a giant taste of humility as I realized how I had made choices that had me turning my back on God.

I had let the voices of the world tell me who to be, and what to do, and I want to challenge you today with this question. Whose voice are you listening to?

I pray this episode gives you a glimpse into the power of HIS faithfulness when we grow weary, turn our back, and hurt his heart….his faithfulness is always there for us, because of his character. When we know this about him, it makes relying on the truth of scripture that much easier in moments of weak faith. He is a good, good father and he waits patiently for his children to come home.

1 Timothy 4:12 tells us, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” This has been a life verse for me and is a pillar to the Kingdom perspective God is building up in front of us. With each new day, it seems to get a little darker out there but a little brighter within the walk of following Jesus. How can that be?Perhaps this contrast is there to help us choose to walk in the ways of everlasting with each decision and choice that we make. His goodness is so tangible and it makes the desire for purity that much stronger. Instead of living in mixture, we must choose who we will serve this day.When I look at these young people, I often see the challenges I was facing as a young teen, afraid to navigate really difficult emotions while being vulnerable with people that I love. Witnessing suicide, divorce, sexual immorality, physical and mental abuse. It plagued my eyes and jaded my perspective of the world. God has been burdening me heavily with the hearts of young people, and the mental torment they are experiencing on all sides. With technology, being locked in our homes, and lacking human connection, it has become even louder out there, and more difficult for them to face. They witnessed the cracks in the foundation, while they experienced the chains that came with the name of religion. They are far from Jesus, without knowing it. The transformational love of Christ has been missing in the Church as a whole, and our younger generations are feeling that ache. What can we do? Don’t overlook them. Don’t throw stones about screen use, I would challenge you instead to take personal ownership and responsibility for the time spent on a screen. If you are afraid they are missing it, where are you “missing it?” (life, I mean). Pray! Get on your face and PRAY for them, for their eyes to be opened, to see his goodness, to be healed, to be radically changed, to call out the lies, and SPEAK LIFE OVER THEM. I am humbled at what God has done in terms of giving me a voice in the worship space. The girl who stopped singing was a part of myself that I missed greatly, and it wasn’t until Jesus offered me a new heart that a new song and voice came with it. He truly brings us new life.

I never imagined that Corey and I would be sharing in worshipping God in the ways in which we’ve seen him move in the last nine months, but you know what they say about God? We need only but a mustard seed.

That seed, that was planted in deep trust, with eyes closed has blossomed and continues to emerge with each new day. The best part is that it has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with God.

Having a heart for worship is about seeking him and him ONLY. Often times, our humanness and silly emotions, can stop us in our tracks and distract us from truly being with the Father. The amount of times that I would attend worship and be moved to tears, only to make it about myself. The heart of God teaches to humble ourselves and to give him the glory (easier said than done).

Meet one of my favorite people, Kayley Baxter, a strong Christian woman with the spiritual gifts of knowledge and the prophetic. As we jump into a conversation, she shares her experience with learning to feed her spirit in the same way that she had to feed her body. As Kayley drew nearer to the Lord, he brought great healing to her heart and revealed many hidden truths that were blocking her relationship with Jesus. As she addressed these hard truths, the Holy Spirit brought opportunities for growth and gifts that she didn’t expect.

“There is nothing for me without your presence,” Kayley tells us about her relationship with the Father. She talks about being “spiritually dead” and “coming to the end of herself” and the signs that she was seeing in her life to push her into deeper trust. For the last 10 years, I have actively sought to understand the human psyche, people have always sparked curiosity within my spirit. This curiosity led me to study and graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where I studied Psychology in-depth. Questions of discontentment kept me looking, leading me to become a Certified Holistic Life Coach, where I spent the last 6 years learning to understand behavior, as it relates to emotional maturity and the challenges we face as Christians.Emotions are not something that we need to fear, but being aware of how they impact our life and journey is something to be mindful of. This journey of seeking healing became my own personal Babylon because I wasn’t seeking God’s heart in the matter, I was seeking my own. This is what the culture will do, it will ask you to find your identity in ALL of the wrong places, and that is exactly what happened to me. Although I was a Christian, I was allowing the question of “Who am I?” and the deceptive nature of the truth of my emotions to dictate the path and eventually lead me to a moment where God knocked me down in humility, where I have sat for the last 3 years, learning and growing through this lesson.Becoming aware of my personal feelings, desires, and wants wasn’t necessarily what led me to my personal hell. It was the belief that my emotions were the truth of which I was seeking. They were a truth, for only a moment, but they were not the truth. This has brought great clarity to the teachings of Paul as we learn to take captive our thoughts and make them obedient to Christ. But before this awareness, I was seeking identity in all of the wrong places, because I was filled with hurt and trying desperately to find healing. I have since watched how God has redeemed this part of my story, not just for me, but as a reminder that he can redeem even the most broken of us.That hole in my heart that I sought to fill with everything that culture was selling, eventually led me right back to the healing arms of my savior… where I belonged the entire time.Let this be a warning to you of the deceptive nature of your emotions, and how they may be telling a completely different story. Learning to walk with God is not just about asking for what we want, but it is also about learning how to listen. For most of us, listening involves more than just preparing to talk again. We often have that little voice in our head that is already preparing for what we will say next. However, active listening requires us to stop that voice and be present in the current moment. This is a powerful practice that can be very helpful as we build our faith walk. Learning to ask questions and waiting for the answer is a spiritual discipline. It may not come immediately, but with time, dedication, and an earnest heart, we can trust that the Lord will reveal himself to us because "he rewards those who seek him earnestly."

I want to challenge you with a question. As you ask it, prepare your heart for the answer. Most of the time, when I ask these questions, I am amazed and humbled by God's response. He always knows exactly what I need to hear when I need to hear it.

Let this message be an encouragement to you to strengthen your relationship with God and get comfortable with listening to his responses. When we spend more time in scripture, we learn to know who God is and his character traits. If the voice you hear does not sound like it is from love, practice discernment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to you.

What was once a pit of deep darkness, became a refreshing overflowing well of the goodness of God. It took time and nurturing, but what was revealed was his power, glory, and the ability to heal even the deepest of wounds.

I struggled with understanding that my identity did not need to be defined by this world, but that being a “child of God” became a foundational footing that could hold me up in the darkest of moments. The question of “Who am I?” led me to believe that I needed to box myself in and become something to share with the world, it brought me a lot of heartache, pain, and wondering that ended up taking me away from God.

But his goodness brings us back. He is always pursing us, whether we know it or not. This well of his goodness continues to surprise me and help me navigate the challenges of this fallen world, but a strong place to land has become the building blocks to our relationship that changed everything.

I pray that this episode helps you to solidify your God-given identity as a child of God, as you experience the deep well of God that is ready for you to witness, see, and feel.

"He Must Increase, I Must Decrease"

The lies we listen to can be so detrimental to our faith walk. But what happens when we focus too much on ourselves and not enough on Him? In this week's episode, we shed light on a line from the book of John in the scriptures, where we learn that "He must increase, and I must decrease."

I witnessed this concept happen in real-time this week and know that the Lord had a message for all of us. When we concentrate too much on ourselves, our past, our stories, our emotions, and the "things that happened to us," we quickly spiral into an emotional pit that becomes hard to get out of.

The Bible teaches us instead to focus on Him. Let's take a look at this together and pray that the Lord helps you see where you are putting yourself ahead of Him and His will for your life.

When people see me, I pray that they will first see Christ in me. I hate to admit it but I know that this isn’t always what people see first. Sometimes I can be “too much” for the world, or I am way in my head, or I can be too harsh with someone. I’ve been a terrible witness and even worse disciple at times. Thank GOD for the gift of grace.

As new Christians, we are so eager to share the gospel that we can forget that it’s not about witnessing to others their salvation, but rather who Jesus is to us and what we pulled us FROM.

I see many people who get caught in the religious dogma of what someone MUST BELIEVE to be saved, that we forget to talk with them about the most important part…. the love story that is knowing who Christ Jesus is and what He saved us from, the depths of our sinful nature.

When we are “in the 99” we can easily forget that we were once “the one” - what did you need when you were on the outside? How did people in religious circles turn you off? Are you willing to ask if you are doing the same thing in your desire to witness?

When we get this wrong, the person who once had one brick in front of their heart may leave with an entire brick wall that is nearly impenetrable… we’ve made it harder to reach them because we focused on the wrong thing.

In this episode, we talk about how we can blow our witness. This wasn’t an easy conversation. I pray the Lord uses this to bring light to your heart and a remembrance of the gift of grace.

We often can’t even hear the lies that we believe, let alone speak over ourselves and our lives.

In this week’s episode, we dive into the practical lessons behind “taking every thought captive and making it obedient to Christ.”

2 Corinthians 10:5 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Our thoughts, emotions, trauma, and the like can be very subtle, even as Christians, we have unhealed trauma and beliefs that keep us in continual looping patterns and unintentionally believing the lies of the enemy, instead of speaking to the truth of who GOD tells us that we are.

The sinful nature is the natural rhythm that we live in, we have to break the pattern, and drawing awareness to the stories we carry is crucial to this work. It is moment to moment, thought to thought, and Jesus helps us deeply by nurturing these wounds. Understanding the truth of scripture and learning to apply it practically to our lives is part of maturing as Paul speaks to us about.

What is revival without reform?

I have been pondering on the statement "What is revival without reform?" for some time now. It keeps popping in my mind, and I believe God is trying to teach me something through it. I recently stumbled upon an old note, and the words resonated with me deeply.

We often do things, believe things, or want things in the name of holiness, assuming they are right, but when we examine them more closely and listen to God's heart, we may realize that we're still acting out of our human nature.

As a church, we need to be ready for when revival and spiritual awakening come to our nation. To prepare ourselves, we need to ask some critical questions. What does reform in the church look like? Which areas of the church need reform? How will we handle an influx of people? How will we welcome and include new people, especially those who are new in their faith? How can we encourage the older generation to embrace people who may look or act differently from what they expect? How can the younger generation be open to learning from the older generation's experiences?

Multi-generationally, we have much to mend, and we need to be careful not to be so eager for the move of God that we disregard His voice when it sounds different from what we expect.

I pray this episode spark something within you that brings awareness to how God is desiring to move in this time.

This is a personal experience about how a good samaritan helped me to strengthen my faith and gain a deeper understanding of God's plan for us. During a recent trip, I faced unexpected challenges that reminded me of God's goodness and holiness. I learned that we can glorify Him in everything we do, even when things don't go as planned.

I remember the day when God revealed his true abundance to me. It was much simpler than what I had expected. After spending the whole day eating food grown from the land, I stepped into a wood-burning sauna and then dipped into a cold plunge. Despite having negative money in my bank account, God had provided in a way that changed my life and my perception of wealth and abundance. This experience of luxury was the true abundance of God, and it was unexpected and beautifully humbling.

In this week’s episode, I get really honest about some of the personal challenges I have been trying to overcome, including a "wellness practice" that was suffocating me with unrealistic expectations and ideas of "health, wellness, balance, and abundance."

I pray, that in the year 2024, we can put aside our sinful nature and stop seeking balance. Instead, let us seek holiness and reflect on our behavior, actions, and beliefs that keep us in unhealthy and unhealed patterns.

Let us think about why we do the things we do, and choose something differently. Let us strive to live a life that pleases Him so that when we reach the gates of heaven, we will hear His voice welcoming us in love. Not condemnation.

Matthew 7:21-23 tells us, “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”

To walk as Jesus walked, we must be willing to endure the struggles and moments of betrayal, burden, heartache, and grief that come with life. Although Jesus was fully divine, he was also fully human and experienced the same emotions and challenges that we face without falling into sinful nature.

The year 2023 was a year of both growth and grief for many of us. His faithfulness and holy scripture guide us on how to endure and move forward. Trusting in Him and His timing helps us cultivate and strengthen our faith, and He uses everything we experience to bring us closer to Him and glorify Himself.

It's easy to make things about ourselves, but we must remember that everything was made through Him and for Him. Colossians 1:16-17 tells us, “For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

God's perfect plan doesn't come without moments of growth, but Romans reminds us that we can find hope even while suffering. “And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:3-5)

We can endure life’s most difficult challenges because He who promises is faithful.

The Lord has been highlighting a particular message to me, which I didn't plan on sharing in this week's podcast episode. However, during my prayer time this morning, I kept hearing the phrase "This is a right now word." Although it made me a bit anxious, I trusted the leading of the Holy Spirit and allowed Him to guide me in this episode where we learn together and gain insights from Hezekiah's story in the book of Isaiah.

In Isaiah 39:8, Hezekiah acknowledged that the word of the Lord spoken to him was good. However, as I read this passage, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that Hezekiah was content with the peace and safety he had in his lifetime, without thinking about the future of his descendants. This made me think, how often do we let our current comfort level determine our decisions without considering the welfare of our children and their future generations? With this in mind, this message is relevant to us all, as we ponder on the present and future implications of our choices and how they will impact our children’s children.

He loves us so well that sometimes he corrects us through discipline. Speaking with young people has brought back many of the feelings and challenges I faced in my own life. It made me wonder why it had taken me so long to hear "Well done, good and faithful servant" when I wasn't as faithful as I had thought.

God reveals his heart to us through his words, the community of Christian fellowship, and discipline to change our behavior and actions. As a young girl, I needed the adults in my life to ask me more difficult questions that could have helped me get to the root of the heart of service. Saying "I don't know" left me feeling like following Jesus was not enough, and having a plan was the only way. But even when we mess up and make wrong turns, the love of Christ is a redemption story from the very beginning, predestined, prophesied, and the greatest love story ever told.

John 3:16-17 tells us, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Most people leave out verse 17, but to me, it paints an even greater love story. Not to condemn us, but to save the world through him. It is God's perfect redemptive plan for humanity. May we continue to seek him and the narrow way, always placing his heart at the forefront of everything we do.

"Teen Talks" is a testament to the inspiring faith and courage of the Gen-Z generation. Guided and fueled by the Holy Spirit, these young adults are walking boldly and living out their faith with great conviction. Their hearts, minds, and spirits are moved by the Holy Spirit, empowering them to achieve amazing things. It's truly inspiring to witness their unwavering faith and steadfast commitment to living a life that glorifies God.

Meet my friend Mallorri, whose spirit sparked the idea behind "The God Who Sees Me" podcast. During youth group, her almost always bubbly attitude was different and her spirits were low. As we prayed with her, I heard the Lord say, "I see you because I knew you needed this." It was a huge shift in how we witness God working through our community and with those that we are loved by.

A junior in High School, Mallorri shares her perspective of a thirsty faith in a private Christian school setting and how that has influenced her boldness in the high school halls. She talks about the challenging hallway of "singleness" and how she continues to pray for the Lord to prepare her AND her future husband to be a God fearing man.

This was a lovely conversation, with great encouragement for those in any phase of life. I loved sharing in conversation with Mall and pray that her words bring you peace, a unique perspective, and fuel to your faith and prayer life.

Ephesians 3:14-21, "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

Talks of legalism have stirred much in my heart over the last few weeks, as the Lord continues to reveal himself through conversations about “What a Christian looks like?” When I look at myself, I doubt that I fit the traditional “mold” of what it means to be a Christian, even though I am a Christian in every sense of the word.

I love Jesus deeply and intimately, and I know that I am loved the same by him… so if I don’t “look” like a Christian, who is to say that I am not one? Perhaps you’ve heard the words “salvation” and “sanctification”? Many people practicing legalism believe that because of a spiritual discipline, they are “more of a Christian” than someone else, as they are further along in their “process to purity.”

As Paul the apostle once wrote, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Judging people based on our walk is a slippery slope that will pit the church against each other and keep us stuck in division, instead of bringing forward a pure bride.

This wasn’t how Jesus treated people, and it’s not how we should treat people either.
May people know us first by our love, that they are loved unconditionally by our Father in Heaven, and although he wants us to be transformed into the image of his son, he still loves them AS THEY ARE. Here. Now. Not in six weeks, once they’ve stopped drinking or when they start wearing a skirt.

No, Jesus loves them now. He cares for them deeply NOW.

May our heart of Christ allow others to know just how deeply our Father in heaven cares for them, that he sent his son to be an example of what it means to live in this world as a child of God. That we stop trying to live up to the impossible standards of the law, but be changed by the example of a living Christ… who desires for us to be in a relationship with him.

May we be challenged and stretched this week.

Legalism? Fundamentalism? What even is it??

On this week’s episode, I speak with our guest Christiana Miller | @womnofvalor, who shares with us her experience of breaking free from the IFB church in her early twenties. A pastor’s daughter with most of her early years traveling full-time with her family on a bus, she shares her story and experience and the many lessons she’s learned. She took a leap of faith and lost many people that she knew and loved.

She took a leap of faith by walking away from all that she knew, and many relationships that she believed to be built on Christ rejected her completely.

It left her isolated and shunned. God did great work on her heart during this time. Christina’s experience is unique to her, but unfortunately is the story for many who are stuck in churches that practice legalism, putting a fence where God intended for freedom. Her experience and words are SO important and I was blessed to share in a conversation with her.

Miscommunication and misunderstandings (sin) have been a root cause of challenges in our marriage. During our travels, the Lord used a simple tool to help us learn to communicate and has continued to redeem this part of our story and glorify himself through it all.

Learning to communicate our needs to each other helped create enough space for the other person to express AND be heard. Ultimately our growing faith brought Jesus into the center of our relationship (something that was always missing for us) and he healed many of the wounds we were still holding onto. Jesus became our mediator, letting his love live in between us so that we remember that we are children of God, loved fully and completely by Christ, even if we aren’t at our best.

Paul tells us in Galatians 5:14, that the entire law is summed up in a single command: “To love your neighbor as yourself”. I have feelings, wants, and needs but with this commandment, I remember that my spouse does, too. To love him well is to recognize that he has feelings, wants, and needs, and I want to experience love as I desire to be loved. His perfect love is found in 2 Corinthians.

The Bible tells us that we must take captive every thought, belief, need, desire, and feeling and make it obedient to Christ. Using this tool to help you better communicate your needs brings them obedient to Christ by consistently bringing scripture into it. It has been a technique that has served our marriage well. Is our marriage and communication perfect? We thank God for the gift of grace every single day.

I pray this tool helps you strengthen your walk with Christ, and helps you love your neighbor as yourself.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalms 34:18

I didn’t plan on sharing my testimony in today’s episode, but the Lord had other plans, and as continued verses were revealed, we went there.

Maybe it’s because I was too afraid to share the true reality of how badly I needed him, or I was still sinking in the shame of my wrongdoing, or had come to the fact that I didn’t feel worthy of this redemption story that he was so beautifully writing. Not for me, but for him and his ultimate glory.* He uses it all for his purposes in every way.

Our Father is near to the brokenhearted, and he sent his son so that we could be free. Not free as in still in bondage, but free, like free.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” Galatians 5:1

You may notice a few times that the audio is interrupted, part of that is real-time deliverance to freedom. The Lord saved me, in the middle of this recording, by revealing to me the parts of my story (his true light) that were darkened by its clouds (my old stories and wounding).

We cannot forget the finishing work of the cross through it all. He loves us perfectly into purity, and it might break us first, but the Holy Seed is its stump….

“and for all of this, his hand is stretched out still.”

Isaiah 1:12 asks us this very important and powerful question, "When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts?"

What does this mean? The trampling of my courts? We take a deep dive into the first chapter of the Book of Isaiah and get a very clear picture of some serious accusations from our Father. This question of the "trampling of my courts" requires us to see the different ways our wounding (explained in 1:6) keeps us in patterns of rebellion and how the Lord asks us to "reason together" and have a willing and obedient heart.

When it comes to “living boldly” for the Kingdom, we see this walked out with great confidence in the teaching and preaching style of the Apostle Paul. The Apostle Paul has always resonated with me most in the scriptures, his deep convictions on how he had so poorly gone against the Father seems to bring a great confidence in his kingdom work (after much time in prayer, fasting, repentance, receiving forgiveness, and the like).

The book of Acts mentions his boldness in teaching in many different ways, and it begs us to question where we are holding back from being bold in our own walk with God.

October 11th is my birthday and the start of a NEW THING, I am 33 years old today. I am finally, bravely, and boldly doing something that I have desired to do for a long time.

This podcast is more than just a weekly video, it is wearing my heart on my sleeve for the world, to be a witness to the transformational love that Christ has on our hearts if we are willing and obedient to be changed.

I have spent ALL of my life trying to fit into the world, waiting to be seen for who I thought I was supposed to be, denying the version of me that Jesus calls and draws nearer to himself.

As I've shed the weight of past chapters, I am closing the book on the journey of doubt, shame, being an outsider, and writing a new story of who the Lord has revealed himself to be, through correcting behavior, breaking unfruitful patterns, encouraging spiritual growth and maturity, and cultivating in me an understanding that continues to heal the hurt in my heart.

Genesis 16:13 tells us, "She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

^ Thank you Jesus for seeing me, in my brokenness, despair, and long-suffering. You show us what it means to be in right relationship with the Father and we pray that you continue to reveal yourself to us, together.

Our Love Story

Someone asked and it felt right, here is a behind the scenes look into the last 16 years of our life and relationship together. We weren’t fooling too many people, they knew that our communication was poor at best.

It took a lot of personal ownership, commitment to self and each other, a willingness to be wrong and sacrifice, isn’t that was marriage is for?

Spend some time learning about our love story, from the beginning as two young teens to recording on the Pacific Coast Highway. What a trip and experience it has been.

Our story is not done being written and we hope to continue writing it for the rest of our lives together. We plan to see many continents, meet tons of friends, swim in new water and fall in love with each other every passing day.

After living alternatively for the last 14 months, Shauna and Corey knew that their lifestyle changes would create a very different experience from the last time they visited Vegas for their bachelor and bachelorette party. SEASON 2 US VS. THAT VIDCAST - Episode #17: Cyberbullying and its consequences.

Today’s episode is different than all episodes prior.

Because, real life is messy, it’s not always perfect and we have to learn to let that be okay.

We created the process to help facilitate emotional conversations with self, and with others. It is intended to be a tool to simplify self-help, teach emotional management skills and bring difficult emotions and stories too light. Episode #16: “Did I do this right?”

Self confidence is something that many struggle with and it is a constant player in our lives.

Self confidence, self belief, and ownership of decisions are skills that most overlook. They are crucial tools that many don’t realize are involved in almost every moment.

Shauna discusses a time in life, when she shared a bedroom with her older sister. Explaining how growing up in a shared space with an older sibling helped create a fear of being alone, as well as co-dependent relationship with others.

It wasn’t until later in life when she realized that, “we can’t mess this up!” This was a hard earned lesson, but absolutely crucial for her personal growth. Noticing a pattern of seeking outside validation, and choosing different.

Episode #15: Is this your birthday party?

My wife through me a birthday party - except nothing about this party was actually FOR ME.

It was actually the exact opposite thing than what I wanted.

I wanted a quiet night with my wife.

Corey shares an experience about a birthday party that Shauna threw for him. He felt like she wasn’t listening to him and that he didn’t feel seen or heard. Episode #14: “Be tough."

It was always such a point of pride to be tough and strong.

As men, we’ve been taught to value our strength. We connect with other men because of it.

Toughness was wrapped up in everything as a kid. The “GET UP” mentality was taught to us - even if you are hurt. I realized just how deep this belief about fixing other peoples situations and being tough was for me.

Corey shares an experience about watching his hero, his dad, wrestle with the grief of losing his mother. Watching his dad cry taught him to stand up a little straighter and be strong for those who needed his support. This impacted Corey in a big way. He took on the "fixer" role and avoided feeling anything in hopes to remain strong for others. Can you relate?

Episode #13: I never have enough money.

My relationship with money started from a very young age.

I am the youngest of 5 children.

And all of my siblings always shared how spoiled I was.

I didn’t feel spoiled. I actually don’t really remember having extra at all.

I often felt this feeling of guilt for wanting more - and shame for not having enough.

Episode #10: l am safe

A battle that I’ll fight the rest of my life.

Fear has a tendency to build on itself and when we give into that fear, we can start to spiral. Quickly.

This was what was happening to me for most of my adult life.

It was a sense of safety that was controlling my everyday actions.

It took me learning to trust myself to remain calm knowing that I could calm that fear and I could soften that voice in my head that was feeding into that fear.

It is my belief that we all have this need and/or desire for safety and yet, we’ve never been taught to feel secure within ourselves.

Shauna shares a story with us about her experience moving into the van and grappling with her own fears around feeling safe and secure within herself. She shares a story from childhood that allowed her to course correct at a young age, which meant she knew she could do it again now, as an adult. After almost giving up living in the van altogether, Shauna had to face her fears and learn to live with them - instead of allowing them to hinder her life. __________________________

Episode #7: Experiencing Joy

Feelings are meant to be experienced.

To notice. To have. To feel.

Before I felt like I “woke up” - I don’t remember feeling many of my emotions.

I experienced emotions as “negative” or “bad”

The big lie is that it IS safe for you to feel it all. This means the really good feelings, too.

For me, feeling and experiencing pure JOY was a moment of reflection.

I can’t recall consciously feeling JOY (without also feeling guilt or shame or anything else)

Shauna shares a story with us about her experience when she first turned the corner and saw the most magical hot spring. When we dove deeper, we learned that because she was brave enough to feel her perceived “negative” emotions... it made feeling more positive feeling emotions that much easier (and enjoyable!)

Episode #4: Limiting myself.

There are so many times in life that I’ve held myself back.

Mostly from things that I thought I didn’t like to do.

It turns out, I just didn’t want to feel stupid or dumb for not knowing HOW to do it.

Shauna shares a story with us about a limiting belief that showed up in the middle of her hike near Lake Mead. When we dove deeper, we learned that she only felt “enough” when she was “doing things right.” This belief is no longer serving her. For so long, I let myself believe something that was never really true.

The reason behind my over consumption and binge eating was getting the best of me and I had enough. My relationship with food was unhealthy and my self-image was damaged. foodUntil recently.

When we moved into the van, I learned of an outdated belief.

When we dove deeper, we learned that she had a belief that was causing her to over eat and binge. With this awareness, she has been able to make small changes that have made a big difference.
