The Cowboys without Dak Prescott got throttled again.
The debate about Cooper Rush and Trey Lance will continue as both were absolutely awful. Micah Parsons return helped the Cowboys defense (with DeMarvion Overshown and Trevon Diggs) show life for a half of football but they couldn't sustain it.
This thing is completely, totally broken. Jerry Jones for his part remains defiant about keeping Mike McCarthy through the end of the season and also about letting the sun blind his players.
All that to say, welcome to draft season with our friend Bryan Broaddus.
The Dallas Cowboys had another disappointing showing against the Atlanta Falcons leading to some of us (me for example) to conclude the postseason is out of reach this season. Jerry Jones threw a curveball after the game when the Cowboys 'have some things in the mix' with the trade deadline looming tomorrow. Injuries to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb further complicate things and we discuss how Rico Dowdle is actually good. Stop being cute with Dalvin Cook and Zeke Elliott, let the good dude play.
The 3-4 Dallas Cowboys are staring at a must win game travelling to Atlanta to take on the Falcons this Sunday. Dak Prescott, who wasn't listed as a top 10 QB by his teammates Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs on Micah's podcast, will have to play cleaner and better football to give the Cowboys a chance. The potential return on DaRon Bland could give a boost to the defense that is tasked with slowing down Kirk Cousins, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson etc. What are the causes for optimism in this matchup? Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones said the words ALL IN over and over again this offseason and it was never a real thing. He did however tell you the actual plan at one point, we just paid more attention to the fun headline words. They got the Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb deals done just in time, they're going to do the same thing with Micah Parsons. Although the idea of trading Micah is worthwhile, for a couple of reasons that I'll go over. I'll show you exactly how this team was never going to be all in, and exactly when and how they WILL be all in.
The Dallas Cowboys weren't able to overcome the San Francisco 49ers, again. Mike Zimmer's defense continues to be unable to stop the run, the Cowboys can't run the ball themselves despite trying out Dalvin Cook to partner with Ezekiel Elliott this week.
Dak Prescott continues to turn the ball over every week. CeeDee Lamb had a big game but it all stills feels off.
Trevon Diggs hit a reporter with 'deez nuts' after the game.

We're finally back to football! Let's take a look at the matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers and how Dallas can get this thing back on track and get the fanbase believing again. We've got updates on Micah Parsons, DaRon Bland, Deebo Samuel and other guys who have missed games and practices and how they will or won't affect the outcome.
Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and the passing game have got to get it back going. Brock Purdy has had his challenges so far this year and will be missing an important piece. How can the Cowboys slow him, Jordan Mason and the 49ers offense down?

The potential returns of Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland certainly make things look a little better defensively, the 49ers should be without Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey. Is that enough to make you feel optimistic about the good guys? Offensively can we expect progress as we move forward from Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe? If not, how in the world can you expect the offense to pick up? Can the Cowboys establish a non CeeDee Lamb threat for offenses to worry about Dak Prescott throwing to? The Dallas Cowboys run defense didn't show up once again and they got steamrolled by Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and the Ravens. They've got a LOT to work through and try to get right in a hurry. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and the offense couldn't get off to a fast start. Micah Parsons and Tank Lawrence's defense can't stop anything and now they're getting in to it on the sideline. Happy draft day Cowboys Nation! I've got my final prediction for what happens tonight when the Dallas Cowboys get on the clock as well as a conversation about all the different possibilities.
You know what I love the most? The Cowboys don't really leak anymore. In the Jason Garrett days we knew a lot about what they wanted to do. In the McCarthy era your guess is as good as mine. So let's guess!
We're one day away from the 2024 NFL Draft. Let's look at what the evidence tells us that the Cowboys will likely do, but ALSO....
There are a few positions that aren't getting enough attention as potential premium picks for Dallas. We've gotta follow the Draft Commandments to know all the different possibilities.
Could it be a center in the first round? Got some thoughts on why Jackson Powers-Johnson, Graham Barton and Zach Frazier deserve your consideration.
The Dallas Cowboys have an offensive line that's in trouble and I hate that Jerry and Stephen Jones let it get here. The hole at left tackle and center leaves Dallas with not enough picks to get this thing right AND it stops them from being able to draft well if other positions slide to them.
The one potential solution? Tyler Smith could always play left tackle. I'll tell you why that's an awful idea and where we go from here.
A 3 pack of Cowboys nuggets for you today:
- CeeDee Lamb is a no show as the Cowboys begin their voluntary offseason program today. Not a big deal, but annoying in at least one way for me.
- The 3 most likely names you will hear when the Cowboys make their pick at #24 overall in the first round.
- The 5 names that I hope would convince them to pivot from their plan to pick offensive line in the first round.
The 2024 NFL Draft is a pretty darn good one if you're looking for offensive line help. Here's my thoughts on the guys I'd love to see the Cowboys pick at 24, the guys I'd be ok with at 24, and the guys I'd like to see them move back or wait until the 2nd round for.

If you're not new around here you might already know where this is headed, but the Cowboys have quite a few needs and not enough draft picks to fill them all.
They need a starting left tackle to replace Tyron Smith, a starting center to replace Tyler Biadasz, a starting running back to replace Tony Pollard. I also need guys to compete for snaps at defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and wide receiver.
The Trey Lance trade took away the Cowboys fourth round pick this year. I'd like to see them get one back and also add some more draft ammo. Let's go over the plan and the math.
I've been talked in to it. Let's start Mock Draft Szn. Using the Cowboys list of top 30 visitors, we can see with pretty good clarity what it is they plan to accomplish at the end of the month in the draft.
I'll take my first shot at mocking this thing for 3 rounds (but accidentally end up going 5).
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN is reporting that Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys have mutual interest in having a reunion. Step in here and I'll tell you why I'm not a fan of the idea, plus how they SHOULD and likely will address the RB spot this offseason.
I've got 7 draft names to look at as potentially part of the Cowboys backfield next year.
Let's hit the Dallas Cowboys news of the day. Jerry Jones quotes at the owners meetings give us insight in to how he really feels about Mike McCarthy and what the plan is for the upcoming season.
Plus we've got new kickoff rules that are good for Dallas, and Jesse Holley's daring them to blow it all the way up.
That dang Jerry Jones is so good at saying words that then make us respond to his saying words. I hate it and I love it.
Today he's addressing again the idea of all in and showing he still has no idea what that combination of words means.
Dallas couldn't keep Tyron Smith because they couldn't afford it and if he reached all his incentives it would 'wreck them', according to Jerry. Lie.
Also let's take a glance at other teams with salary cap challenges and how they're spending this offseason. Spoiler alert, considerably more than the Cowboys are.
Everything the Dallas Cowboys have done so far this offseason points toward blowing this thing over the course of the next two years.....but do you buy that they're actually willing to do that? Move on from Dak Prescott and venture in to the unknown?
Maybe I'm giving them too much credit thinking they have an actual plan with how the offseason is going so far.
Let's check on their free agency scoreboard so far, welcome back Rico Dowdle, say goodbye to Tyron Smith and try and puzzle out just what Jerry and Stephen Jones are thinking right now.
The Dallas Cowboys restructured Dak Prescott's contract to save $4 million in salary cap space this year. Let's go through what the plan is with that money and how if factors in to whether they get a long term deal done with the QB.
Tyron Smith is off to the New York Jets and that makes me quite sad.

Welcome to the third day of NFL free agency (or technically the first). Let's check in on the Cowboys doings and plans. That won't take long. Things we'll kick around today:
- The Cowboys approach to free agency and how it's a self fulfilling prophecy.
- This may be year one of a two year rebuild.
- It's becoming quite realistic that this is Dak Prescott's last year as the Cowboys QB.
- How the draft plans are looking with their lack of action now. Mash that thumbs up for me if it's not too much trouble!
It's the opening day of NFL free agency and a grand total of ONE team has made zero moves. Care to guess who it is? Indeed, the Jones family is on spring break and 31 other teams have done something today.
Let's talk about their plan and the options they have to get better this offseason
The Cowboys are Derrick Henry haven't been linked strongly leading up to free agency but you should probably put it on your radar. There's interest, and it's very possible.
The Cowboys also have restructured the contract of Zack Martin to give themselves room to operate with the salary cap this year. Between that move, Dak Prescott, Tank Lawrence, Michael Gallup and Brandin Cooks, 2025 could be the year of the iceberg.

We've got Cowboy updates flying at us from the NFL Draft combine in Indianapolis. Let's talk about what we're learning about what Mike Zimmer wants in his defensive front seven, what Will McClay thinks about the players they're scouting in those spots and about the plan for Trey Lance with Dallas this season.
Also we know who the Cowboys are having their formal meetings with out in Indy and it's encouraging to me the position groups they're not afraid to take early.
Dallas Cowboys news of the day revolves around Mike Zimmer's contract which has been revealed to be a one year deal. Sounds like it's going to be an uncomfortable season in 2024.
The idea continues to be floated by beat writers that the Cowboys also might not extend Dak Prescott this offseason, opting instead to just restructure and push some of his money back again. Let's talk about what these things mean, and the likelihood that this is the last go 'round for Dakota and the Boys.
This is my first look at a complete free agency plan for the Dallas Cowboys to get them ready to draft.
They currently don't have a starter at left tackle, center or the third cornerback spot. What are we going to do about it? The depth and talent they have at linebacker and defensive tackle is definitely not enough to compete. We can fix that.
I'll give you the names and contracts to do it. Running back is also a spot that could use some addressing that we'll discuss.

We've got an article in the Dallas Morning News today from David Moore about Dak Prescott and what the Cowboys are thinking about his contract situation. It's widely assumed that Dak is going to get an extension to lower his salary cap number this year so they can be 'all in'.
If that happens Dak will likely be the highest paid player in the NFL. But David Moore is bringing back up an alternative to that. A different way to save some money against the cap without an extension.

This offensive line needs some reinforcements and it makes for an interesting conundrum.
I want a WR, a TE, an OL, a LB and a DT. And I can't have them all. Let's try to sort it out.
This is my last run at trying to predict what the Cowboys are thinking and what they'll do in the 2023 NFL Draft.
I'll also follow it up with one last crack at how I personally would draft things so we can have fun twice.
Will Bijan Robinson be available and if so will the Cowboys take him? How about Michael Mayer?

I'm going to give you the three players I think have the best chance of hearing their names called as the Cowboys first round pick at #26.

I did a little research project and it led me to the conclusion I do NOT want the Cowboys to take Michael Mayer out of Notre Dame in the first round of the draft. For once I actually have evidence I'm going to bring to the table!
The Cowboys could use a tight end to add. It's a nice draft class to do it in. Michael Mayer at the 26th pick just isn't the one.
Todd McShay released his ranking of NFL Draft prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft via the tier system. I really enjoyed looking at it that way. So I've converted my grading in to a similar way to view the Cowboys process that I'd like to share with you all.
Scenarios for the Cowboys to stay put and pick, plus what would lead you to want to trade up or down. It's all right there in your rankings and pretty hard to mess up honestly.
Let's do 500 Cowboys mock drafts and talk about what they need, what they should do, what they will do, and all that jazz.

I told Jerry Jones we needed to add two things to this thing with the NFC down and attainable this year. A big girthy man up the middle and a wide receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. Johnathan Hankins was our big man, Odell Beckham may be our wide receiver according to reports. The Cowboys tried to get a deal done for Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks and weren't able to get it done. That stings a little bit for two different reasons that I'll share with you.
And now we all turn our eyeballs to the guy you would NOT have to trade for in order to add him to your team. May we all glance toward Odell Beckham Jr as a potential Cowboy.
The Cowboys traded for Johnathan Hankins, then the Eagles traded for Robert Quinn.
Hankins is a getting older run stopper than can still help you out a little bit. Quinn is a stud pass rusher and the Eagles only gave up a 4th round pick! How is this possible? Well, there's a catch.
