They came from Gath, from barrenness, from idolatrous cities…

They were insecure, inconsistent, and in some cases, unqualified.

But God still wrote them into His story. And maybe that’s the reminder we need right now.

This week, we're focusing on detoxing our soul and finding true life in Christ. What does this mean?

Sin created a separation from God that only Jesus could mend. Because God loved the world so much, He gave His only Son to bring us back into His family (John 3:16). Through Jesus, we are offered salvation, redemption, and the truest life possible—a life filled with purpose, contentment, joy, and peace.

This abundant life isn't free from storms, but it remains vibrant despite them. Living this life comes at a cost: surrendering our way for Jesus' way. As disciples, we follow His teachings, His example, and His guidance, embracing His truth and life (John 14:6; Matthew 11:28-30).

In this message, we’ll unpack Jesus’ yoke as seen in the Sermon on the Mount and explore the spiritual practices He teaches—giving, prayer, and fasting. We’ll dive deeper into fasting, one of the most underutilized yet transformative practices, and its power to:

1.) Starve the flesh and align us with the Spirit (Galatians 5).

2.) Amplify our prayers and deepen our union with God.

3.) Stand with the poor, blessing others while drawing closer to Christ (Isaiah 58).

Fasting isn't just about giving up food; it's about replacing our strongest desires with our deepest desire—to know and walk with Jesus. Whether it's a regular practice or a response to a crisis, fasting helps us seek God in a meaningful way.

Take the challenge: Remove something this week—maybe a meal—and turn that hunger into a moment with the Lord. Let’s draw closer to God together!

There are many lessons to be drawn from the Biblical Christmas Story, but the most significant is this: Jesus left Heaven to come to earth to bridge the gap that sin created between us and God. This is the heart of why we celebrate Christmas.

But the story doesn't end there. Because of Christmas, Jesus now sees us with profound love and joy, calling us to something far greater—something 10,000 times better than we could ever imagine.

It’s Christmas time, everybody! The season where we celebrate Jesus stepping out of Heaven and into our world to bring peace, restoration, and true life.

But have you ever thought about how the first Christmas really looked? It wasn’t perfect, polished, or picture-ready—yet God was in it.

From the Garden of Eden, to Zechariah and Elizabeth, to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds, we see God at work in the messy, dark, and uncertain moments. And just like then, God is in it now—even in the places that feel hopeless, confusing, or broken.

In today’s message, we’ll learn from the Christmas story how to:

✨ Show up in faith when life feels dark (Zechariah & Elizabeth)

In Matthew 13, Jesus teaches about the different types of soil – hearts that either resist, quickly fade, get distracted, or truly embrace the Word, yielding an incredible harvest. We all want to be "good soil" that produces a life filled with purpose and impact. But how do we cultivate this type of heart?

This message breaks down steps we can take to prepare our hearts as fertile ground for God’s Word:

Repentance & Humility – Removing the rocks and weeds blocking growth (1 John 1:8-9, James 4:6).

Today, as we look into the profound and timeless narratives of the Bible, we focus particularly on the book of Ruth. This remarkable piece of Scripture is not just a historical account; it's full of valuable teachings that are as relevant now as they were in ancient times. These lessons serve as guiding principles that we can thoughtfully consider and incorporate into our daily lives.

One such lesson emphasizes the significance of our reactions to life's challenges. How we respond to situations in our lives has a ripple effect, influencing not just ourselves but also those closest to us. Our attitudes and decisions can uplift others or weigh them down, which underscores the importance of choosing positivity and resilience.

Another powerful lesson from Ruth is to trust God regardless of your circumstances. Life is unpredictable, throwing unexpected twists and turns along our path. However, maintaining faith in God provides strength and hope, even when our situation seems bleak. It's about recognizing that God's presence is constant, though our troubles may fluctuate.

Ruth's story also teaches us that saying 'yes' to God does not automatically alter our circumstances. Our affirmative response to His call is the beginning of a journey, often filled with trials and perseverance. Yet, this act of obedience is a seed from which blessings can grow.

It was a spectacle that amassed a great crowd, each person drawn to the spot by curiosity or perhaps a deeper interest in what was transpiring before them. But a question lingers heavily in the air, one that goes beyond the mere act of watching – where were these onlookers coming from, not just physically but mentally and emotionally?

To go further into this contemplation, it's crucial to ponder about their differing perspectives. Every individual in that crowd had a unique vantage point, a singular set of life experiences that colored their perception of the event. What preconceived notions did they bring with them? What beliefs or biases might have influenced what they saw and how they interpreted the significance of the moments we are recalling?

Can we, after all this time, unearth any lessons from the internal journeys those individuals embarked upon while they stood as witnesses to history?

Jesus and His disciples were on their way to Jerusalem when He gave them a simple task. He asked two of them to find a young donkey in a nearby village and bring it to Him, saying if anyone asks, just tell them 'The Lord needs it.' And guess what? They found it just as Jesus said they would!

A Lesson in Trust:

This isn't just a tale from long ago; it's a reminder that like those disciples, we too are guided in our daily lives. It's about being open to instruction and trusting in the guidance we're given, whether it’s as clear as the task given to the disciples or as personal as the nudging in our own hearts.

What's This Mean for Us?

As we progress along the Road to the Cross, this week's focus lands squarely on the pivotal moments that unfolded at the beginning of Holy Week. It is a time to reflect deeply on the profound actions of Jesus when He arrived at the temple and found it wanting in its purpose, leading to an act of righteous indignation - the cleansing of the temple.

Imagine the scene: the outer court of the temple thriving with merchants and money changers, a place meant for prayer transformed into a bustling market. Into this scene strides Jesus, his presence commanding attention. His reaction is unexpected; tables are overturned, coins scatter across the ground like a metallic storm, doves flutter to freedom. The message is clear: the sanctity of worship had been sullied by commerce and greed.

But what does this powerful moment mean for us today? How should we interpret the disruption caused by Jesus within those sacred walls? Can we find in our own lives places that have become cluttered with material concerns, perhaps distracting us from our relationship with the divine? As we join together in Matthew 21 for this week's message, we will go into these questions and seek understanding.

Furthermore, the enigmatic curse of the fig tree by Jesus as recounted in the passages also presents a challenging metaphor. This fig tree, standing there lush with leaves but barren of fruit, becomes a symbol of disappointment, a representation of unfulfilled potential. When Jesus searches for fruit and finds none, His subsequent curse leads to the tree's withering. It stands as a stark lesson on the expectations of fruitful living no matter the season.

What parallels can we draw between the fig tree and our own lives? In what ways are we called to bear fruit, and how do we respond to that calling? Are there aspects of ourselves that are all show and no substance?

One technique that resonated with me was inspired by CEO Alan Mulally, who successfully turned around Ford Motor Company. He had his team assess different areas of their work using a color code - green, yellow, and red.

What if I applied this assessment to various aspects of my life?

I started looking at areas like sleep, family, friends, work, finances, rest, gratitude, and serving others. This simple practice has become an integral part of my life and continues to guide me. From that lowest point, I gradually improved by making incremental changes. I focused on winning each day, knowing that some days might not go as planned, but it's about overall progress.

When nativity scenes are set up at Christmastime, Jesus is always at the center of the picture. The nativity was the scene that ushered in the promises of God for salvation and the presence of God to live among us.
