Hi I’m McKenzie Harrison, and I record this podcast in my bedroom closet partly for the acoustic and partly as a metaphor for my personal journey to accept myself as gay. I talk with others about their humanness, their relationships, and sometimes how they like their eggs cooked (on ice). What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of internal homophobia, a degree of psychology, and 4 years of not using my degree. I will attempt to bring world peace without lab work, clinical trials, or pageants. I will be in the great tradition of providing a safe conversation. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thesafeconversation/support
In this episode, we talk about our Christian upbringings in western churches and the shame that came with it.
Disclaimer: This is solely based on our own experiences, and we do recognize that there are communities out there that are sincere in the fact that love is most important and acceptance is welcome to all.

Man, I am even hesitant to call this an "episode". This was a powerful story from my friend I met through IG, Jimmy. He shares his journey through addiction and recovery, how he defines addiction, and what it means for him to live a more simple life on the Isle of Man.
Also, please enjoy his beautiful accent :)

Is it easier to fit in? Maybe. But who does that serve? Your pursuit to fit in is ultimately to feel better about yourself, and you don’t know who you truly are, because you are letting other people dictate your truth.
In today's episode, I talk about belonging and WHY we try and fit in. We cannot begin the process of knowing our truth without understanding why we try and fit in.

Damn y'all... this conversation left me inspired, challenged, and my cheeks kind of hurt from laughing so much?
We talk about Cayla's journey to prep and compete in her first NPC bikini contest. Despite the mental barriers and the perceptions of others, she has shown up every day when no else was there to motivate her. The result? Massive confidence and massive results. "When you do things that other people don't do, you get results other people don't get."

You guys... this episode is POWERFUL. Edith Dunn is a 65 year young, certified esthetician and realtor. I met her at BOHO Med Spa, where she has brought an absolute light to. I had one small conversation with her, and I knew I had to bring her on to tell her story.
Ran away at 15, married her best friend at 16, found forgiveness for her father, and has created a life of absolute freedom. So excited for you guys to listen to this. Be prepared to be moved!

Hannah and I chat with our friend, Jace Scott, about all things being in your 20s, the expectation of achievement, feeling complacent in comparison to those around us, and what it is we actually want in life. Jace recently completed his Masters in Social Work in August from the University of Oklahoma. He is currently provisionally licensed in the State of Oklahoma and will be taking his ASWB exam to gain full licensure on October 5th. As a social worker, Jace assesses individuals utilizing a biopsychosocial model, can diagnose mental health disorders, and gauge what community resources a client needs to limit potential barriers. His masters emphasized motivational interviewing, strengths based approach or person-centered, and person-in-environment perspective along with other evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, etc. Follow us on IG: @the.safe.conversation Guest: @spacey_jaceyy

In this episode of The Safe Conversation, my girlfriend, Hannah, and I are interviewed by our good friend, Arthur, in the closet/bathroom. We talk about what we would say if a guy hit on us at the bar, the biggest stereotype we feel being a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and what we need to work most on as a couple. Spiiiicy.
