India Thusi is a Professor of Law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law with a joint appointment at the Kinsey Institute where she is a Senior Scientist! Her research examines racial and sexual hierarchies as they relate to policing, race, and gender. Her articles and essays have been published or are forthcoming in the Harvard Law Review, NYU Law Review, Northwestern Law Review (twice), Georgetown Law Journal, Cornell Law Review Online, amongst others.
Thusi’s research is inextricably connected to her previous legal experience at organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union, Human Rights Watch, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and—most recently—The Opportunity Agenda, a social justice communication lab that collaborates to effect lasting policy and culture change. She served as a federal law clerk to two social justice giants: the Honorable Robert L. Carter, who sat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and was the lead counsel for the NAACP in Brown v. Board of Education; and the Honorable Damon J. Keith, who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and is lauded for his prominent civil rights jurisprudence. She also clerked for Justice van der Westhuizen at the Constitutional Court of South Africa, the country’s highest court. Among other acknowledgements throughout her career, Thusi was selected as a Fulbright U.S. Global Scholar for 2020-2023. Her paper “Reality Porn” was selected for the 2020 Stanford/Harvard/Yale Junior Faculty Forum, and she was recognized as a Top 40 Rising Young Lawyer by the American Bar Association in 2019. Her most recent paper was selected for the 2021 Equality Law Scholars Workshop!

✔️ HOW IT WORKS From July to September, all of us won’t buy any new clothes. Zero. Nada.
Instead, we follow the 'Buyarchy of needs': We use what we have. We combine clothes in creative ways, discover our own wardrobe, develop our own style! We borrow and swap clothes. A friend’s preloved clothes can be exactly the thing you're looking for. If we still need something new, we thrift clothes from second-hand and vintage stores. And last but not least: we make our own clothes! 🤔 WHY DETOX FROM FASHION? If you act together, you become more than “just” a drop in the ocean. Choosing slow fashion together with 20.000 others sends a powerful message to the fashion industry: fashion with pollution and unfair labour conditions is not normal. Together we make waves! To deepen your relationship with clothes. Behind every piece of clothing is a story and a life cycle we often forget about. Learn to buy less and cherish the clothes you have. Become creative with what’s already out there. Second hand and vintage clothes are just as fashionable, often unique and allow for amazing combinations.

TheGenevaConventions and their Additional #Protocols are at the core of international #humanitarian law, the body of international #law that regulates the conduct of armed conflict and seeks to limit its effects. They specifically protect people who are not taking part in the #hostilities (civilians, health workers and aid workers) and those who are no longer participating in the hostilities, such as wounded, sick and shipwrecked soldiers and prisoners of war. The Conventions and their Protocols call for measures to be taken to prevent or put an end to all #breaches. They contain stringent rules to deal with what are known as "grave breaches". Those responsible for grave breaches must be sought, tried or extradited, whatever nationality they may hold. #Israel occupied the #WestBank and #Gaza Strip and controls these areas through #repression, institutionalized #discrimination, and systematic abuses of the #Palestinian population’s rights.
At least five categories of major #violations of international human rights law and humanitarian law characterize the #occupation: unlawful #killings; forced #displacement; abusive #detention; the closure of the Gaza Strip and other unjustified #restrictions on movement; and the development of #settlements, along with the accompanying discriminatory policies that disadvantage Palestinians.
Many of Israel’s abusive practices were carried out in the name of security. No Recourse to Public Funds is a condition that applies to most #migrants in the UK until they have obtained a permanent settled status called #IndefiniteLeaveToRemain (#ILR) or have #naturalised as #citizens. Most #visas require a migrant to live in the UK for either #five or #ten years before they can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain, so people are often subject to these conditions for very long periods. #Research conducted by #TheMigrationObservatory at the #UniversityOfOxford, suggests that nearly 1.4 million people have no #recourse to public funds (NRPF) in the UK. According to one report by the #UnityProject, an estimated 85% of individuals applying to have the #NRPF condition lifted were #women, nearly all of whom were #single #mothers. Trapped from accessing free #childcare services and #employment, women can neither access state support nor earn money to support their child, leading to the report’s conclusion that NRPF ‘indirectly #discriminates’ against women, who are statistically almost always likely to be worse #impacted #financially by a #relationship #breakdown than the father. A five-year-old boy has won a case against the #HomeOffice as high court #judges declared the government’s “no recourse to public funds” (NRPF) policy unlawful for the second time in a year because it drives some families into destitution and breaches the duty to safeguard child #welfare. Thousands of children living in #poverty are likely to benefit from the #ruling.
The #case is the second successful challenge against the Home Office’s NRPF policy since #lockdown. Last year a court found that the policy was #unlawful owing to its failure to prevent people falling into #destitution, in #breach of their right not to be subject to #inhuman or #degrading treatment under HumanRightsLaws. Johnny Depp has lost his libel case against the publishers of the UK newspaper “The Sun” over an article that described him as a "wife-beater."
The case has been described as the biggest #English libel trial of the 21st century and received global attention as it unfolded over three weeks in July at the #RoyalCourtsOfJustice in #London.
In a statement published shortly after the ruling, Depp's lawyers called the decision "as perverse as it is bewildering." They also said that most troubling is the judge's reliance on the testimony of #AmberHeard and corresponding disregard of the mountain of counter-#evidence from police officers, medical practitioners, her own former assistant, other unchallenged #witnesses, and an array of #documentary evidence which completely undermined the #allegations, point by point.

The #fast #fashion #industry takes a terrible toll on the environment. Each year, this industry generates 1.2 billion tons of #greenhouse #gases. That is more than the amount that comes from international flights and marine #shipping vessels combined. The industry also consumes a whopping 98 million tons of #oil every single year. The process of dyeing #textiles is one of the largest causes of clean #water #pollution.
To make matters even worse, despite all of the resources that go into #manufacturing #clothing, many of the #garments end up in #landfills. Because they are cheap, they are rapidly discarded.
Eco-friendly clothing strives to eliminate environmental, #labour, and human rights problems. It is manufactured in an #ethical manner in which #workers’ rights are respected and the #environment is protected.
For far too long, the fashion industry has relied on #unethical and #unsustainable labour practices in order to sell #cheap clothing. It is time to prioritise human rights and eco-friendly fashion.
Sustainable fashion is on the rise for all sorts of good reasons. Traditional fashion has been killing people and the planet for much too long, and change is long overdue.

ClimateChange is already having visible effects on the world. The Earth is warming, rainfall patterns are changing, and sea levels are rising. These changes can increase the risk of #heatwaves, #floods, #droughts, and #fires.
Climate change places certain #species at an increased risk of #extinction. The #effects of climate change are real, and they are already happening.
The level of climate change we will see depends on how quickly we cut #emissions of dangerous #greenhouse #gases. Even if we were to stop all emissions today, we would not prevent some changes. However, the sooner we cut emissions, the smaller the changes will be.
In a recent report, the #IntergovernmentalPanelOnClimateChange (#IPCC) @ipcc showed the difference between 1.5°C and 2°C of global warming. But unless we reduce emissions rapidly, the #world is likely to exceed #2°C of warming. By the end of this #century, warming could potentially reach #4°C, possibly more.
Climate change will increase the #risk of different problems around the world. Though #developed #countries produce most greenhouse gas emissions, #developing countries are predicted to see most of the #severe effects. With fewer #resources to adapt to these changes, the impact on people in developing countries is expected to be higher.

Bullying has destructive impacts on our minds and lives. The victims of bullying also experience a wide range of emotional issues and might feel frustrated, vulnerable, helpless, lonely, and isolated from their families, friends and others in their communities. Consequently, they may be inattentive to their studies and classes and also resort to drugs and alcohol to reduce their pain. As a lawyer, human rights activist, legal researcher and mediator, I’ve worked with law professionals and victims. The most important thing I’ve observed is that most people,even the highly educated class don’t have a clear understanding of human rights and access to justice. They become more vulnerable when they try to settle their issues or try to get access to court system. Since they are ignorant of the laws and rights, even law practitioners take the opportunity and exploit them! His organisation aims to defend child rights in South Africa and to create global awareness against child abuse and child rights violations. This entrepreneur and rights activist is working hard to unite conscious people to raise their voice against child rights violations and help people if they go through any issues related to child abuses. Mr Trinishen also admits that the legal system in South Africa is not helpful for people and in child custody cases, men or fathers are really very helpless since law enforcement agencies don’t give them proper opportunities to present their issues.
