Authentic Chaos is a podcast intended to explore the chaos of our minds through a dive into the chaos of my own mind. How do we make sense of the universe and ourselves? How do we connect more meaningfully with others? How do we understand ourselves on a deeper level? I may not have the answers to these questions but I promise to provide my own authentic insight and have discussions with friends and the audience.
Have you ever felt frustrated that people can’t understand you or your thoughts? Maybe some conversations with friends or family get difficult because of misunderstandings or other miscommunications.
All people want to be understood, and we all have the capacity to be understood, but what often stands in the way of being understood is how we communicate. I will share my journey with being understood and how changing my view of the goal of communication enabled others to more easily understand me.
Why does it feel so hard to be an “adult” sometimes? Our bodies start to ache, the foods we enjoyed before are now bad for us, and the relationships we had relied on can sour. Does time and age have to be this oppressive force? Join me and Tessa for a heart-felt discussion on our relationships with time management, health, the chaos of the world around us, and our own families.
Traveling to new places and exploring new cultures can be exciting and stressful! Especially when you are aiming to visit a culture that is so different from your own. Stephen Ritchie joins us today to talk about his own adventures in India, a culture that is utterly foreign to him. Listen as he paints a beautiful and complex picture of this ancient culture. What insights can we gain from putting ourselves in unfamiliar situations?

Salvador - a reference to a savior/messiah - reflects the answers we are searching for: who are we, why are we here, what is the meaning of our lives, how do we do good? These questions have many and no answers. There are many ways people can try to seek out their answers but there is no right answer.
This is no more clear than when we explore new cultures and meet new people. These diverse perspectives show us that these questions aren’t unique and the answers are more complex than we think.
Join me and Jason McIntosh as we share travel stories and lessons learned from our experiences. Listen to how the people we have met on the way have sparked changes within us and how we actively change in our lives.

Do you have problems that seem to keep coming up in your life? Maybe you feel chronically stressed or perhaps you are getting into arguments now and then with people around you. Does it seem like when you address these problems you only temporarily solve them? What if you are missing the bigger picture?
We live in a complex world with many patterns and cycles. Sometimes the problems we experience are just symptoms of different patterns that affect us. Perhaps from work, our culture, the weather, or our inner cycles. If we take a step back and work to understand these patterns on a deeper level we can try to find the solution to the hidden puzzle.
Follow the podcast on instagram: @authentic.chaos
Think about the last time you were stuck in a thought pattern or a bias. How did you recognize you were stuck in the pattern? How did you go about changing? Did the change come from inside yourself or from the outside world?
I found myself in one of these bias patterns that was affecting my perspective. It got to the point that I knew I had to change, so I planned a trip, which is commonly what I do when I want a big perspective shift. But when I was on the trip, I did notice my perspective had shifted but when I looked into the time period between being aware of my stuck perspective and this trip was full of a gradual process of perspective shift. So maybe this trip was unnecessary? Maybe internal changes aren’t as influenced by the outside world than we think?
Join me as we dive into perspective and how shifts in perspective start from within!

Is Hell a place where the damned go for all eternity? Is it just a prop used by religious types to confound the masses? Or is there deeper, more personal meaning to Hell. What is Hell even and why would any all powerful, all good gods create such a place?
Journeys of self discovery are not unique, they are some of the oldest tales we know: The Odyssey, the trials of Hercules, The Divine Comedy. But here is a new one that you might not have heard of: The Red Book by Carl Jung. Carl Jung made powerful connections in his own personal reflections between these tales of journeys and the process of self discovery. For him, Hell wasn’t an external place but an internal state of mind. A mental place where contradictions are rampant, where we confront our darkest evil. But when we confront our darkest evil, should we reject it or accept it?
Join me in a personal review of the journey within my own Hell. Let’s review of the lessons I learned from my own journey and from reading Carl Jung’s journey.

How do we obtain happiness? How should we live a “good life”? How would we describe the last year (2023)?
These questions can seem difficult to answer precisely because they have no right answer. But even that isn’t quite right because there is an answer that is right for us, while not universally right. Finding your “right” answer is as challenging as finding your “right” path. While no one can tell you the right path, learning different perspectives can help you find your right path.
Join me and Shikhar Tuwari (IG: @its_sh1khar) for a raw and emphatic conversation as we share stories from the last year, contrast our world views and how we see the purpose of our lives, and what we hope to do in the coming year.

Does reality have a bias toward fun or obligation? Is going on vacation or to a music festival reality or a fantasy? Is music just fun sounds to listen to or is there a deeper meaning?
Music has connected people for as long as humans have existed. From prayer chants and war songs to classical music to DJs, people have found connection with their world and with each other through music. But what does this music mean for us? What lessons can we learn from music and festivals in how we should treat each other?
Join me and Alina Pawchareune (IG: @lina_face) as we talk music and how music and festivals can grow our perspective and connect us deeper with the people around us.

Take a look back over the last 10 years. How have you changed? How has your view of the world change? How often do you get stuck in a certain set of biases or world view? Perspective is complex, it is a window into the world and into ourselves. But this window can be invisible. And sometimes this window can feel like a prison.
Join me and Stephen Ritchie (@powerofperspectivewithstephenritchie) as we discuss the importance of understanding your own perspective and how we have changed our perspectives over time.

Why do people care about Paris? Or Rome? What about Giza or Damascus? Do we like a place because it has fancy buildings or is there something more? What can we learn from history?
Is this all just a history lesson, or can we learn something about ourselves from history?
I propose history contains contemporary lessons: how we see ourselves and others, the importance of shifting perspective, and the difficulty of changing perspective.

The more we grow, the more important it is to remind ourselves of where we came from and who we came from. This look back can be grounding and challenging at the same time. Grounding because it brings us to our roots, but also challenging because it can shake up memories and feelings which you haven’t recounted for a while.
Join me and my mother for a very special episode of Authentic Chaos! In this episode, she will be mostly interviewing me about my background and my intentions for the podcast. And I will be interviewing her about what makes her tick and some of her beliefs. Let’s get raw and real!

What is important to you? How do you determine which values are important? How do you define your own self worth?
We are taught to value ourselves, but adopting that notion of self worth is challenging. How many times have you postponed working on one of your needs or traumas because you have “more important” things to do? What could be more important than addressing your own needs? Maybe you feel stuck in trying to figure out what your values are and what your worth is, how can you get over these mental obstacles?
Join me and Tessa Heeren (Instagram: @tessa_heer) as we discuss how we found our self worth and how psychedelics have been important aspects of our journeys of understanding ourselves and the world around us.

How would you describe consciousness? What about self-consciousness or even self-self-consciousness? Can we ever think ourselves out of our own minds? At what point does a rule system that references itself start to change itself? What is the point of this podcast or even this episode?

Humans influence technology, and technology influences us. We have access to data about ourselves that our ancestors could never have dreamt up. But does more data mean more meaning? Or is data itself meaningless without a narrative binding it? How can the same data be used to reach different (sometimes contradictory) conclusions?
Join me and Yossi Katzin (IG: @trekkieyk) as we discuss the roles of data and beliefs in our modern world, how our belief systems can bias our search for data, and how we can be more flexible with our belief systems as we observe new data to create a more nuanced view of the world.

What is important in a relationship: the love of power or the power of love? Can you love your boss? Why do some parents still see their adult children as kids? Should you try to control your spouse?
When we think of relationships, we often think of specific kinds of relationships: spousal, parental, familial, friend, etc but how often do we think about the aspects of those relationships? Join me in reflections on two fundamental forces in relationships: love and power. Power imbalances can exist in multiple forms: in a single income household, the job holder wields power of money; in a boss-employee relationship, the boss wields the power of employment and career progression; in a parent-child relationship, the parent wields the power to protect and guide their child. Power imbalances on their own aren’t problematic, but they can be when that power is used to impose hierarchies. When are these hierarchies appropriate and when can they erode love?

We all know about debilitating addictions such as drug addictions, but there are many other addictions that society doesn’t consider addictions. Whether talking about the hold of car culture on the design of American cities, our global addiction to caffeine and sugar, and new movements such as anti-aging, there are many examples of accepted addictions. What makes addictions acceptable in society? Are they providing a benefit to society? Or are these addictions exploited by corporations for greater profit?
How do we avoid these addictions when our society compels us to consume? Can connecting with our bodies temper these addictions?
Join me and Tessa Heeren (@tessa_heer) as we discuss car culture, accepted addictions, and how we try to reconnect with our bodies and with our communities to live our lives more intentionally.

Burning man has been in the news lately for reactionary reasons: tales of weather issues threatening the festival, opulence, and increased gentrification. But Burning Man is so much more than the narratives that laypeople hear, the event is an opportunity to critically examine the social contracts that bind our societies and to dream up alternative societies.
Yossi Katzin is a regular attendee of the event and shares his views on the theory behind Burning Man, the lessons he has learned from it, and how it has shaped his own views. Join us as we discuss the event itself, both its history, present, and principles, how empathy can be used to handle fringe (potentially dangerous) ideologies, and how we can envision alternate societies that work for more people than the society we have today.
What does it mean to “go with the flow”? What is a flow state? Have you ever felt a situation where your body and mind were singularly focused on a single task? Can we re-imagine what “go with the flow” means for us?

Answering some audience questions about the motivation for the podcast! What were the origins of Authentic Chaos? How do I have similar conversations in real life? What should you do if something I say resonates with you?
If you have questions, feel free to ask me on instagram at @authentic.chaos!
What is the purpose of your life? What are your values? How do you determine who you are and what the right thing for you is? Technology can make our lives more complicated, but without a life philosophy, our lives can seem devoid of purpose. Even hopeless.
How can a life philosophy help frame your values and give you purpose and hope?
Join me and Sharik U Zama (IG: @sharik_zama777) as we discuss his personal life philosophy of stoicism, how life philosophies come about, and why everyone should pursue a life philosophy. We both come from separate lives and separate life philosophies, but still find similar benefits to having a life philosophy. Could you benefit from one too?
Do you feel like there are multiple versions of yourself? Maybe there is a version of you that you show to the outside world. And maybe there is also an inner version of you that you keep hidden. Which version is the authentic you? Or are both the authentic you? What are the similarities or differences between your different versions?
Join me and Serene Gao (IG: @serenedpt) as we discuss our inner and outer selves and how we can embrace our authentic chaos while being accepted by the people around us.
Have you ever had a belief so strong that you held it even in the face of other evidence? Have you ever wondered why some people seem to make consistent mistakes? The power in our beliefs is that they let us make quick decisions but at the cost of working invisibly to us. If we don’t question our perceptions and beliefs then it is easy to get caught up in narratives that shape our realities.
Join me (IG: @authentic.chaos) and Stephen Ritchie (IG: @powerofperspectivewithstephen), the host of the podcast Power of Perspective with Stephen Ritchie, as we talk about the power of perspective in our lives. We explore how perspective and beliefs root within us, why we might wish to change them, and how we can change them.
Dear Capitalism,
My how you have made life so much better for all of us! Privatizing the basics for survival is really the best way to support human life! Who needs guaranteed access to food, water, and shelter when we can instead pay for it! And who could forget the many efficiencies created by having layers of middle management to capture profits from labor so someone else can get rich off of someone’s hard work. That’s meritocracy for you! If you work hard enough, you can achieve anything! And if you can’t achieve your goals then really it means you have to work harder. Thank you capitalism for gradually turning social interactions into opportunities to network and expand our hustle. Because what are other people for besides opportunities to make more money?
Join me and Tessa Heeren (@tessa_heer) as we discuss various impacts that capitalism has had on our lives and our society in a cathartic creed to the system of economics and exploitation that we all know and love!
Have you ever felt like you exist for a reason? Like there is some unseen purpose that you are meant to fulfill? Maybe a quest for God or knowledge fuels you? What happens if you never meet your purpose? Will you still be happy? Or is happiness even a priority in your life?
In a world with access to vast amounts of knowledge and connection, there is chaos. Chaos of the natural world and chaos of our own making. How do we find serenity in the chaos? How do we have our voices heard in the endless void of screams?
Join me and Yossi Katzin as we discuss what fulfillment and happiness mean to us, what we see as the purpose of our lives, and how we view connecting with ourselves and others.
Are you fulfilled in your life? If so, what do you think is providing your fulfillment? If not, then what would provide you fulfillment? These questions are important because they make choosing happiness every day easier.
Join me and Annie Warren (@annieandgriz on instagram) as we talk how we find fulfillment through adventure and community.
Have you found yourself trying to get more? More money, more space, more food, etc. But do you really need as much as you think? What is enough?
What is Enough? is a simple question with complex answers and even more complex implications. In a culture of constant consumerism, many live lives they don't enjoy to achieve some retirement goal in the future. But instead of living for the future, what would happen if we live for the present? What are the needs in your life and how much money do you really need to achieve those? Instead of thinking about how much more you could have, think about how much you need in order to choose happiness every day.
These are reflections on my own mindfulness journey and I hope the help you too. I talk more about this journey on "The Power of Perspective with Stephen Ritchie". Check it out on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2eVdDAuyx0o2CmT7DveFMK?si=0e1db635065b4ba7
Think about the last time you took on a new hobby, how did it feel to learn something new—to push your limits? What did you learn about yourself as part of the process? Can our hobbies and interests be more than just “keeping busy”? Can we learn deeper lessons about ourselves through our hobbies and how we push ourselves?
Join me and Stephen Ritchie (@stephenritchie45), a avid hobbiest with physically intense hobbies, as we discuss his journey of taking on new hobbies, such as rollerskating and even fire dancing, and how he learned more about himself in the process.
Work culture these days can include positive aspects like seeing your coworkers as teammates, coffee runs, team lunches, and activities. Is this seemingly positive shift in work culture a reward to workers or a tool of control by our employers? Do we just work 40 hours a week or does work take up more of our mind than just the 9-5 hours? Why should the reward of retirement be at the end of our lives? Why do we use "productive" as an adjective for non work related things like weekend activities or relationships?
Join me and Shikhar Tiwari (IG: @its_sh1khar) as we discuss work culture, how this culture has been manufactured to be a tool of control, and the radical concept of choosing to not be productive.
Do you feel like you live in constant routines? Like nothing changes between days or weeks? Is this the life you are most happy with? Is there no other life for you?
Elle Mills (IG: elle.millsx) and I have had these questions for ourselves. We explore how we found ourselves at a crossroads in our life journeys and how we embraced the unknown to find our own happiness. How can you embrace uncertainty to find the life path that provides you the most happiness? Listen to our conversation for advice on how you can live life more intentionally and find the joy even in routine.
When you look at light reflected on a surface (like water), have you reflected on if other people see that same light ray? Is it also pointing towards you for them? Or does it point towards them? Is art just a culmination of lights, colors, and sounds? Or is it a story fused together from the artists and our own perspectives? What lessons can we take from these examples to better understand how we experience the world?
Join me in reflections on how what we perceive of as "objective" reality is actually a subjective experience morphed by our own biases (some of which may be invisible to us). How can we investigate and become aware of these biases? How can we change them?
Questioning the subjectivity of my own perceptions was a key first step in my journey of understanding my authentic chaos more deeply. And I hope it will help you too.
Embracing our authentic chaos is a life-long journey. Some start when they are young, some when they are old. When you start doesn't matter, but starting is the important thing. But what happens when we lose our way? How do we recenter ourselves and find our way back to our path? How can we focus on being ourselves when we live in a world of stress, pain, and tragedy? Is loss and stress avoidable or a necessary part of our journey?
Join me in a very special conversation with my sister, Maro Yeranossian, about how she rationalizes trying to find her path, how we have both felt grief, and tributing to important family who have passed.
Life in America is full of hustle and independence. Young adults in America are taught to be successful they need to leave home and create a life for themselves. But the dream has turned into a nightmare for some: millennials are learning the difficulty in building community from scratch. Dating, finding a life that works for you, even making friends can be difficult. How can we treat each other and ourselves with more kindness and live the lives we want to live?
Join me and the Tessa Heeren (@tessa_heer) for a re-union conversation about our views on living in America as millennials with backgrounds in the Midwest.
Traveling is a beautiful experience: it shows us different parts of the world, different ways of life, and more importantly different aspects of ourselves. Maybe you are the type of person who travels to escape their routines, travels to discover new versions of themselves, travels to learn more about themselves.
But what happens when you return home? When the "fantasy" of travel ends, do you exit the world and enter a gloomy realm? Do you go back to being a "normal" version of yourself? If the world is full of so many beautiful places and different perspectives, then why can't your home also be filled with beauty and deep unique perspectives? If you have the capacity to behave so differently when you travel, why can't you be that same person in your own hometown?
Join me in reflections on traveling and how we can become travelers in our own homes. Let's find the thrill in our "mundane" lives.
In a world where everyone seems to be putting on a mask for others, it is rare to find someone who is unapologetically themselves. We worry about what others might think of us and because of that we put filters on what we want to say and how we present ourselves. In my journeys in this life, it is a rare and beautiful thing to find someone as authentically themselves as Jason. He embodies himself perfectly and is true to his own authentic chaos.
Join me in a seemingly chaotic conversation with Jason McIntosh (IG: @life_is_alright_i_guess) as we talk about vulnerabilities, dreams, growth, and just how to be yourself.
Whether you are a veteran traveler who has visited 80+ countries or are just starting your wanderlust journey, how do we make lasting memories and truly experience the world? More than that, how can we even act as travelers in our own home?
Join me in a conversation with Elle Mills (IG: @elle.millsx) a thoroughly traveled Contiki tour manager as we discuss what inspired us to travel, how a search for knowledge and understanding fuels the most memorable travel experiences and how anyone can create lasting memories regardless of how experienced you are with traveling. As always, being present is the ultimate spice to life!
Traveling to foreign places can seem daunting at first: How do I get around? What if I don't enjoy it? What if I can't speak the language? These questions flood our heads and keep us from experiencing what the world has to offer. Mindfulness has some teachings that can help us expand our understanding of the world and of ourselves.
Join me and Dan Pearce (IG: @pearce764) in a conversation about how our views toward traveling has changed over the years, how traveling the world has impacted us, and how traveling can be made more enjoyable for you by being more present in your journeys.
Our economic systems and philosophies about self betterment are focused on the goal of infinite growth. If we keep growing, then we keep improving and that is great! Except can we keep growing? What happens when we start using up our limited resources in the world, like water, land, and human resources? On a personal level, what happens when we hit limits that are potentially threatening to break? Is infinite growth possible and if so, is it even worth pursuing?
If infinite growth is supposed to bring us closer together and to make us happier, then why are people feeling more alienated and unhappy than ever before?
Let's reflect on growth as a mindset and consider a healthier alternative that could be more fair to ourselves and the world around us.
Hollywood pushes the narrative that love is all that matters, but if you have ever had a close friendship or a romantic relationship, you know that relationships take more than just love to work. Love may spark relationships but love alone can't meet a relationship's needs. If love is not enough to build a fulfilling relationship then what else do we need?
Join me in reflections on how to build deep and fulfilling relationships of love by being present. Let's reflect on what being present in a relationship means, how to become more present, and ultimately more authentic, in our relationships. Let's build a more loving world one relationship at a time by being more present in the relationships with the people we love.
Confidence is an attractive trait when dating, but how do we find this confidence? Is confidence in dating different from general confidence?
Join me and Aakash Balaji (IG: @_kash.kash_) on a discussion on the importance of confidence in oneself in dating and how we worked to find our own confidence and authenticity.
In a world where we are feeling increasingly frustrated with dating and feeling lonely, how do we make friends and date? In such a interconnected world, how can we feel so disconnected from each other?
How can we build more meaningful connections? How do we build a community we want to live in?

In a time where we are increasingly disconnected from other people, ghosting becomes ever more common. But what is ghosting and why is it so prevalent? Are there ever valid reasons to ghost? Or is ghosting just a way to escape the fear of rejecting someone?
Join me in a discussion with Tessa Heeren (IG: @tessa_heer) as we talk about ghosting, rejection, and how to end dating/relationships in a respectful and honest way.
We are told that to find love, we must love ourselves. However, no one tells you how difficult it is to love yourself.
Join me in reflections on my own journey of self love, how I break down self love into steps in a journey, and how you can use these reflections to build a foundation of self love in your life.
In a time where lay offs are piling up and in a culture where our jobs are tied to our identity, what is a lay off but an existential threat? How do our jobs relate to our identity? How can we build boundaries around our job to liberate our authentic chaos?

Dry January, diets, cleanses...we have so many ways of trying to correct when we overindulge. How is it that the things we enjoy can be bad for us if we do them too much? What is the goal behind trying to moderate ourselves? Is it a punishment or a reward? A sign of discipline or part of our journey of self growth?
Join me in my reflections on moderation from my own cleanses in the past and why I think they can be a great way to build a more mindful practice in your life.

Are women more emotionally mature than men? Is this a biological differentiation or a symptom of patriarchal structures? Is it in the best interest of men to embrace their emotions or are men destined to be rational machines? How can we inspire more emotional vulnerability in our loved ones and ourselves?

Who are you? Is the person you are today the only version of you? Have you ever shown multiple sides of yourself to different people? Were they all fake? Was one the real you? Or maybe they were all you?
This is a challenging topic for me to talk about not because of vulnerability but because it is difficult for me to find the words to describe these feelings I have about how I expanded my own consciousness and sense of self. So join me in a raw episode about why and how I expanded my consciousness and why I feel it is worthwhile for you to do the same!
In a culture where Open Mindedness is praised, where is the space for Open Heartedness? What does it mean to be Open Hearted? How often are you aware of your heart?
Join me in exploring the matters of the Heart and how being Open Hearted may be a vital step in your journey of self discovery!
Have you ever found yourself reacting poorly when vulnerabilities or insecurities arise? How do we build a practice of not reacting when we feel insecure but being more intentional? In this episode, I explore a mindfulness technique I have learned which has helped me deal with vulnerabilities in a safer way and build an internal mechanism of changing how I react to vulnerability in the future. What is the secret? Breathing.
Who are you? How would you describe yourself to you? These questions can be more difficult to answer than they seem. How do external forces shape our identity?
Let's explore why humans construct collective narratives, some of these collective narratives in our lives, and how to find our own identity in the maelstrom of societal forces and stories.
Are we alone in this universe? Could there be any sentient life out there that is just as complex as we are? Join me in diving into why we are not alone and how understanding that is critical for deepening your empathy toward others.
