Why Quick Fixes Don't Fix Everything

Welcome to another episode of Healthy Not Hungry.

Rachel explores the idea of quick fixes and why they oftenfall short in addressing the underlying issues related to health and well-being.

Rachel's goal is to redefine how we view health, removingunrealistic expectations imposed by society and embracing a balanced approach to wellness that prioritizes long-term benefits.

Rachel shares a personal anecdote about a friend who, despite receiving advice to take a holiday to improve mental health, recognizes the need for professional help and personal effort to address deeper issues.

Quick fixes are prevalent in modern society, driven by adesire for instant results and gratification.

Examples of quick fixes include crash diets, extremeweight loss methods, cosmetic procedures, and other shortcuts that often fail to address root causes.

Crash dieting can lead to short-term weight loss but isunsustainable and often results in rebound weight gain due to metabolic changes and nutrient deficiencies.

Mental health issues are not solved by temporary solutions like holidays or cosmetic enhancements; professional counseling and self-discovery are needed for long-lasting improvement.

Rachel advocates for a holistic approach to health, considering physical, mental, and emotional well-being as interconnected aspects of overall wellness.

Quick fixes may offer immediate satisfaction but oftenneglect long-term consequences, emphasizing the importance of sustainable, healthy habits.

Rachel emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance,acknowledging individual efforts, and avoiding comparisons with others. She encourages listeners to adopt a patient, compassionate mindset towards personalgrowth and wellness.

This episode of Healthy, Not Hungry challenges the allureof quick fixes, urging listeners to prioritize sustainable, holistic approaches to health and well-being.

By addressing root causes and embracing gradualprogress, Rachel empowers her audience to redefine their understanding of health and pursue lasting, meaningful changes.

  1. Why do you think that people compare themselves so harshly to others on social media, especially Instagram?

  2. Do you think that there's a difference to the confidence shown on social media compared to in reality?

  3. Do you think when we're posting from a place of realness, how do you think that affects us?

My background is I have a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine.

So nutrition stuff, particularly supplements is my jam.

Here are my top training supplements:

Protein – NOT the protein powder but protein intake food and as a nutritionist in nutritional medicine. FOOD is medicine. Actual real food sourceshaving enough protein is number one for training.

L Carnitine - is an amino acid that freely runs in our body as it is. Most commonly, it is known as a natural fat burner. What it actually does is it helps thermogenesis in your body, which is where you heat up a bit faster to burn more energy and calories.

Amino Acid B CAA S - supplement with added electrolytes. Electrolytes are what our body needs to stay hydrated and keep us from cramping and having other issues going on.

They help us to function. They're the chemicals that conduct electricity when dissolved in water, they regulatenerve and muscle function, hydrate the body, balance blood acidity and pressure and help to rebuild damaged tissue.

Creatine - associated with bodybuilding and getting jacked in bulk and particularly as females but that can be used for all genders. It has fantastic supplement and helpful when it comes to creating muscle energy.

It allows muscles to work harder and longer before fatigue sets in.

EPA and DHA in Fish Oils - which is the different types of fats that you've got going on help to boost athletic performance. They also have so many great mental healthbenefits as well.

Help to improve your mental performance and energy as well, which in turn will help with athletic performance.

Probiotics - contain good bacteria that we put in our gut. Fantastic supplements for our gut health so the body can absorb the nutrients. Probiotics contain good bacteria that we put in our gut.

Glutamine/L Glutamine - another amino acid and it's most commonly known for muscle gain and fat burn, necessary to maintain muscle protein. Studies have shown that the when increasing intramuscular glutamine levels, that there's a direct link to influencing muscle cell volume, which enhances the protein synthesis and then increases the muscle size. Helps to reduce fatigue and improve exercise recovery.

Everybody has its own genetics and its own cellular functions and the way of working.

While something might be really effective for one person, it may not be effective for another person or as your body changes as you age or maybe you going through a different hormonal change or even for a female during your times of the month, you'll find that what might work at one phase won't work for another or won't be as effective or you won't enjoy as much.

It's always worth looking into what you're ingesting and putting into your body and who you're supportingbecause you never actually really know until you definitely know.

Rachel and Tiffeny discuss the impact of external support, sharing personal experiences of seeking help and offering assistance to others. We will have a new segment "Could ask the nutritionist or Nutritionist Hotline". I'm doing a call out if you would like any nutrition questions answered.
YOU CAN ASK any NUTRITION and WELLNESS QUESTIONS
We would love to answer them for you and have you on and help everyone else out there because I think this is the right thing.
So if you're brave enough to put it out there, it's completely anonymous. It may not just help you and give you that nutritionist knowledge for free, and help others with the same questions or issues.

Why Your Goal Setting Doesn't Work

Today I thought that we would discuss talking about making habits rather than goals. Now is about the time where some of you may be looking at your New Year's goals and resolutions that you made and either being really proud of yourself because you stuck to it. Congratulations.

So, it's one of those things, firstly, if you have flopped, if you didn't start, if, for whatever reason, it hasn't gone to plan that is ok. Give yourself permission to be ok with that and not beat yourself up about it, causing ourselves guilt about not achieving something or failing at it. It doesn't increase your productivity, it doesn't increase your results and actually getting there any faster. Literally, all you're doing is putting negative thoughts into your head, which biochemically speaking will increase your cortisol.

We are talking about creating good habits and focusing on the habits rather than necessarily the goals, the results, the outcomes.

Our focus shifts towards establishing sustainable health habits, and we provide three actionable steps:

  1. Prioritize hydration by increasing water intake to a minimum of 2 liters per day.

  2. Enhance your diet by focusing on the addition of fruits and vegetables rather than deprivation.

  3. Embrace a healthy persona when making choices, allowing for occasional indulgences without guilt.Atomic Habit of James Clear is a very good book to learn about this. This is a new concept for me and I’m inspired to finish listening to this audio book and apply this to myself and to my clients. Basically, the concept in this is that rather than focusing on creating goals and results, you focus on creating daily habits, which will ultimately lead you to those results and goals. We will have a new segment "Could ask the nutritionist or Nutritionist Hotline". I'm doing a call out if you would like any nutrition questions answered.

YOU CAN ASK any NUTRITION and WELLNESS QUESTIONSWe would love to answer them for you and have you on and help everyone else out there because I think this is the right thing.

We're going to go in and talk about getting out of the vortex after a big event or for a lot of people you might want call it the New Year's Vortex.

Especially after you've had a bit of time off work or a holiday period. It can be really hard to switch your brain to getting back into routine with things and getting back on track.

But it's time for us to jump back on track.

I want to normalize this and make sure that everyone knows that it is ok to not be on top of things because you’re doing your best to pull yourself out of that little slump.

How to refocus the intentions and daily things to get back on track.

  1. Be creative in what you are doing.

  2. Set goals and intentions for whatever that maybe.

  3. Write steps to follow or create a TO-DO list to follow

These are my personal steps.

How about you, what are your own steps to refocus?

We're talking about all things like financial literacy and health and how having our finances in order really does impact our health.

Being open about finance is a good thing. I find the more you have an open conversation, the more you can learn and benefit from others and how they deal with finance or maybe how they don't deal with finance and just create a healthier feeling around money.

Financial Health is very important, because you don't feel stressed about money and if an emergency does arise, you do have some funds to cover that. It's not an easy place to get to, but just feeling content with where you are, is a good place to be.

The way we handle money can have the biggest impact on our life, it can cause so much stress, like a lot of, even marriages, a lot of the tension can be around money raising children, it can be about money.

Let’s discuss more of this on our podcast. Happy listening!

Skin Health

There's some really great food options and things that can really help with your skin health that I think sometimes we tend to forget.

Here are some of the foods that we can take on a daily basis.

Probiotic and prebiotics - play a big role on helpingto fix gut. The gut is the second brain.

So, it influences a lot of things.

Hydration is a huge one. Skin needs a hydration to get through. It's recommended for adults to have roughly around at least two liters of water a day. That's a great amount to keep your skin hydrated and happy as well.It helps to keep our skin healthy by boosting circulation in blood vessels and potentially ramping up collagen synthesis and firming the skin.

It is also a natural antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory; it helps to prevent free radical damage that can contribute to aging and wrinkles.Vitamin C rich foods. Vitamin C is great for skin health.

They naturally boost collagen and they also help to maintain the level of it.

Good fats. Fish is a great one. Increasing like all the omega threes is wonderful.Bone Broth is a great one. Really good natural source of probiotics and source of collagen.

Be healthy and thriving, have more energy, a stronger immune system, less getting sick and maybe you'll have a better mental health from it.

Merry Christmas!

Like in a good way, it's just a good reminder that we really need to be present in the moment and enjoy it because the moments are so quick and they grow so fast and obviously you can't get them back.

Be present, enjoy your loved ones because, every day is a gift and blessing.

We never know how long we have on this earth or how long the people that mean the most to us have, so never ever, ever take that for granted.

My first Christmas episode that I've done with the podcast. So thank you so much for your support.

Few things that I like to DO when it comes to Christmas.

  1. Christmas tree up - I'm very strict on it, I won't put it upuntil the 25th of November. So I get a whole month to display it.

  2. Christmas movies - The more Hallmark, the better I will bingethem.

  3. I go to town - So bring on the 25th where I can get in my fullChristmas mode.

  4. Christmas decorations have to be away before New Year's so I can start the New Year fresh.

Christmas is my favorite time of year, but not just because of the decorations and the movies.

I love all that. I love buying presents. I love gifting people.

But what I really love about it, is it encourages everyone to slow down a bit, stop a bit and just be present and spend time with loved ones. Which is my favorite part is being with the people that I care about and instead ofbeing in the hustle of being busy with working and everything else. Getting to slow down and just take time to be with the people that you care about and also being generous.

Another big one is, spending time with loved ones but being generous with the people around you and even the people that you don't know. I love the giving season and that's not necessarily just talking about monetary things in gifts.Whether you give your time to someone else or help someone in need.

So just be kind to everyone and I guarantee you'll feel great about that too.

Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy this special time with your family and friends.

Do What Works

We're talking about whatever works. I want to take away the stigma and the what's the word.

The expectation of how we're supposed to be perfect at things and do everything in this stock standard way and strive for this greatness.

Take the pressure off. As a mom to a 5-year-old daughter. I am always in the full swing of, the whole mum guilt of.

Are you feeding your kid enough nutritious food? I think and addthat I'm a nutritionist. It almost takes it up a notch.

So, I think what we need to do is take away these high expectations of what we're expected to do and what looks the best and what's the healthiest and just do what works, if it'shealthy enough, that's enough.

Exercise, eating wellness routines.

Sometimes in the mornings I don't feel like breakfast yet or I don't have time because I'm too busy running after everyone else.

I always have a protein bar in my bag. I'll eat it in the car on the way to work. I'm satisfied.

If you are forcing yourself to do something because expectation wise, you think you need to do it, but it is just not suiting you. It's not fulfilling your cup. It's making you feel bad. It's a struggle.

Take away the pressure and the expectations and the guilt of what we think we should be doing or what we think we need to do.

Don't punish yourself to do something because you think you need to do that, find what works for you and stick to that.

Some people who are the fittest and healthiest and happiest, they don't do these massive obsessive routines of things.

They literally listen to their bodies and they stick withwhat works.

Commonly Asked Nutrition Questions

I thought for a fun little episode, we would jump in and I would discuss the most commonly asked nutrition questions.

Let’s Google and take a look for myself and see what came up.

My recommendation for the week is to take probiotics.

Probiotics are good bacteria, you can get them in capsule form, in drink form, in powder form.

What they do is they help to increase your guts good bacteria to help balance it a little bit better andrestore your gut health overall. This then has impacts on just about everything else.

From Google, Most Popular Diet and Nutrition Questions

1. How can I help my kids cut back on sugar?

2. Does intermittent fasting live up to the hype?

3. Should I take supplements?

4. Are plant-based diets better for my health?

5. Should I avoid gluten?

6. Are there certain foods that can boost my metabolism?

Let’s try to answer these questions!

It's really important to just look at where you're getting your information and answers from and if you're hearing one and it sounds too good to be true.

It probably is too good to be true.

Or if the person who's giving it has no credibility behind them to show that they've done theresearch, they've done the studying to know this.

It's really important to look for a second opinion so that you can make sure you are getting the right answers.

Why Being Selfish Isn’t Selfish.

I feel like this is something that everyone can relate to, in one way or another, whether you're a parent or as a daughter or son or partner or friend or in a workplace.

There are so many ways that this can relate as far as, being a little bit selfish or really not selfish, putting yourself first and setting boundaries.

I have a recommendation for you today. Take time in the middle of your day to just step out of what you're doing.

So if you're in the office, go outside for a walk and look at the fresh air or if you're at home parenting, I don't know where you could go, maybe go into a closet or something, just take a few minutes to breathe and think for yourself and just get out of the situation and clear your head and then you can go back in feeling a bit better.

I want you to prioritize your physical health and your mental health and well-being first by doing what you need to do for yourself to fill your cup to keep you mentally happy and healthy and physically happy and healthy as well.

It can be a really hard thing to be ok with that because we can always come up with a million reasons as to why we shouldn't put ourselves first or we should put someone else first.

You shouldn't feel guilty about this, because what you're doing is you're investing in yourself.

And because of that, you might be feeling like you're being selfish. But what you're doing is you're prioritizing you. Then you’re showing up 100% and giving more to the peoplearound you, whether that's your relationships, whether that's your work.

The point is you're able to show up and you're able to give more because you're not pouring from empty cup, you're pouring from this cup that's nourished and overflowing.

You can then pour way more into other people's lives.

To Wed Shred or Not?

So, you know, getting married shredding for your wedding, having this whole transformation before you walk down the aisle.

A very common question for us and I'm sure that for a lot of people, it's a pretty common question, whether you are engaged or getting married, whether you've just been married and you went through this yourself, or whether you're single.

Recently there's someone, I know and she was getting married and she posted something about it being like, am I going to wedShred?

No, and explained her reasons why.

What is a wed shred?

Because some of you may have never heard thisterm. And if you haven't, I mean good on you. Itsounds like you're nice and sheltered from the world of diet culture. I guess people have different interpretationsfor what this means. So I thought we might just start with what iswed shred.

From my understanding, a wedge shred is where you like, go into a new fitness or exercise or eating regime leading up to thewedding to be your fittest and healthiest possible so that you sparkle on your day or maybe you fit into a different size dress, or it's having this transformation.

The person of your dreams has obviously asked you to marry them as you are. So if they are not happy with as you are andthey're putting a condition on that, that is the the biggest red flag to begin with. Basically, the wedding is the beginning as we age.

So personally, I feel that as a society, we need to change this pressure and need to transform and lose weight and go on awedding shredding before we get married.

In my opinion, I think if you feel the pressure to change, to get married, you maybe need to look at the relationship or if maybe you have the most fantastic partner in the world who doesn't care what you look like.

But for some reason you've put this pressure on yourself.

I want you to dig deep here and think why have I put this pressure and expectation on myself to need to look a certain way orbe a certain thing for someone to marry me, even though they've said they want to marry me without that.

So maybe it's a bit of self-reflection and digging deep that you need to do and to figure out what it is that you're actually not happy about.

You know, if it's the fact that you're looking at it from a health perspective and you feel crap and you don't have energy, you're not getting up, you don't feel strong, you don't feel capable, you're just not mentally happy and you want to increase some better foods to make you physically function better.

You want to increase some exercise to boost the endorphins and make you feel better.

And then the last thing is remember, that anyone who is marrying you or whatever it is that you're doing should love you for you and you are always enough, no matter what, if nothing changes, you are enough and if they've made that decision, well, that's great.

You found your person!

How to Look After Your Health for Free with Cost of Living Crisis

During this crisis we need to look for FREE services or activities that can help us with our health and overall well-being.

Let's discuss together how we can look healthy and happy in the middle of this living crisis.

Here are some of my tips for you:

  1. Motivation and advice. I would consider is listening to podcasts. They are so great and there's so much knowledge and they're free and they're so accessible and you can listen to them whenever you want.2. Eating healthy does not have to be expensive. I think the more you can cook yourself and the more savvy you can get with that, the cheaper it gets.

  2. Go shopping on your local markets to save more. I will base our menu of what's on special, which is really great, but they also have a fruit and veg bar there and all the fruitand veg is straight from the farm fresh and is so much cheaper

  3. Classes. It's a community environment, like it lifts me up. It makes me feel good.I get a good workout. I show up because there's accountability and especially, like, depending on what you do.

  4. Get crafty. Use YouTube. When we were in lockdown, people made all these videos and there are so many great options. Instead of paying an extra 25 bucks for ayoga class but there's that many available on YouTube for absolutely free, which are great quality. So definitely, definitely, definitely utilize the free things that we haveavailable to us literally at our computers.

I know you have your own ideas too. Please share them to us so we can use it as well, Thank you!

Balanced Eating

I want to talk about a few things to consider when you're thinking about balance in your diet or intuitive eating.

What really does that look like?

To me, balance means that you're having a vast array of all the good things. We're talking fruit, vegetables, protein, carbohydrates, seeds, nuts, good fats, but also some ofthe things that are maybe more treats if that's something that you enjoy.

A lot of people go off the 80 20 rule.

So, 80% good eating 20% bad or maybe they eat clean during the week and let loose on the weekends or I havea lot of clients who do, they have two cheat meals a week where they can have whatever they want. They focus on eating really balanced and healthy foods.A lot of people these days go off intuitive eating, which means you listen to your intuition and youliterally kind to eat what feels right and good for you at that time.

Intuitive eating can be really great and it's a really great balanced approach that keeps you healthyand happy and making sure that you're not restricting yourselves and you're taking away a lot of the mental aspects and issues that come along with eatingand meal planning and deciding what's good for you and what's maybe not.

Why Starvation Is Never The Answer

There are so so many reasons. But it's so common to result to starvation when you're desperate to get results.

Basically the body needs nutrients to thrive.

It requires a certain amount of calories and energy for itsfunction. It requires carbohydrates.

Starving is never the answer because even if short term, itgets to you what you want, long term, it creates more health issues than good.

The best thing we can offer is support and help and if that is something that you need, reach out to a loved one.

Someone you trust, someone who knows what they're talking about in this industry, even like counselors, your doctor, there are so many people out there willing to help you who want to see you succeed and thrive.

So please don't be a stranger. If you find this helpful or know someone who might please share it with them.

Go Easy On Your Body Fat

So firstly, females need a certain amount of fat for our hormones to function.

That is fact. So in order for us to have a healthy amount of hormones and healthy levels, so that it functions normally so that we have periods so that we can ovulate and that we can conceive, we need a certain amount of body fat.

Redefine your standards of what an acceptable amount of fat is.

Redefine your standards based on your body type and composition and science rather than what you see on social media and realize no matter what shape of body you have, you are beautiful and if it's keeping you alive, it's doing its job.

I really want you to be kind to yourself.

Lastly, as we age things change and that is ok.

You hit menopause, you stop getting periods, your body stops making certain hormones and it's ok.

Embrace the Era You're IN

What era you are currently in?

Are you like me, that Im in the point of tweaking my routines due to my situations or circumtances?

I wanna know how are you going to show up differently because that's what works for you and you're still showing up.

We're not absent by any means.

We're still kicking goals, hitting the things that we wanna do.

But the difference is we're doing it at a time that suits and that we're not having to push so far against to get done anyways.

What To Prioritise

I think, given that we live in such busy lifestyles, most of us are juggling several things at once.

We live really busy lifestyles most of us and we're trying to juggle so many things and it can be hard to know what to prioritize and how to prioritize it.

This concept of balance as much as I love the idea of balance. Sometimes it's just not possible and that's just the hard truth. Whether it's that you're unwell or you've got a new phase of life, you're really busy with work, you've got family commitments, like there's a million different things that could get in the way of you having a balance and being able to prioritize everything that you need to prioritize.

It's not necessarily trying to find the perfect balance, but it's figuring out your non negotiables and also being ok that sometimes things will slip. There will be seasons in your life where those things that slip you'll be able to get on top of.

I'm just in the season of mess and that's ok and it might be the same, you might have some health issues going on or you're so slammed with work and looking after your family and other things that your health just right now isn't a priority for you.

Where is your focus?

Focus on something that you can do or that you are doing and feel good about yourself for what you are doing because you know what life is tough, adulthood is tough.

But at the end of the day, you're hanging in there and you're still here and you're doing the best you can and you deserve to give yourself a pat on the back for that and feel good for what you are doing.

Different Exercise Seasons

Different seasons for different types of exercise.

As much as it's so important to keep working hard and achieve things and get there.

I guess, just always remember that at the end of the day, if you have your health and you have people who you love around you, you're rich, in the ways that most matter.

The idea of being able to stick to that is really unobtainable.

So I guess that's what I want to discuss.

The theory is, I guess being a bit more flexible with your training types based on the seasons that you're in.

So stay consistent in whatever intensity and life season and you're in, but just keep moving your body and it will thank you for it.

Even if it's maximum or minimum, just keep moving. It's like you're finding Nemo where she's like, just keep swimming.

That's pretty much what you want to keep doing, keep moving and you know, the seasons will change and if it's not your thriving time yet, it will be soon.

Healthy Mindset Around You

Healthy mindset around motherhood. But really if you're not a mum, I don't want you get discouraged and turned it off because really this is applicable to anyone and everyone like whether you're a dad, whether you're not a parent, you might be a partner or a friend or even like the relationship you might have with your work.

But I guess the point is no matter what circumstance you are or what title you might have; you deserve all these things. It's really important that you are prioritizing that. Looking after yourself, prioritizing exercise and eating well and doing the self-care things that you might enjoy, whether that's seeing a psychologist journaling, whether it's going to get your nails done.

Let’s Normalise Talking About Hormones

Let's normalize, talking about hormones and more so hormonal issues.

A lot of people actually firstly don't know a lot about different hormonal issues.

Basically, 8 out of 10 women will and if you're the lucky two out of 10, that's great.

My goal isn't really to cover what things are, but I just want to introduce the conversation so that we can all talk about it together.

Like a nutritionist, naturopath acupuncture has been really great to help with some hormonal issues.

Tell Your Inner Voice To Be Nice

As a woman and as a mother, we put such high expectations on ourselves and we judge ourselves way too much.

Social media definitely doesn't help because it's a direct comparison and you see other people doing fantastic or looking fantastic.

Value shouldn't be about how we look. We are so much more valuable than how we look.

Your value is who you are on the inside. How you act, what's special about you, what makes you light uphow you treat people, how you leave them feeling is so much more important.

So, even though its metabolism may not keep up to your standards or society's standards of whatyou'd like. Even though your skin might have sagged a bit, you have stretch marks, a scar or whatever imperfection it might be.

Forget it, love yourself for what it does.

I hope that by the end of this, you love yourself a little bit more and that you realize that no matterwhat size shape you are, no matter what works and what doesn't, you are special.

You are worthy and you matter and you know, no amount of toning or skinniness or putting on weight or whatever your fitness goals is, can change.

Winter Eating

With colder weather, sometimes a lack of motivation, our eating habit will tend to change.

How to Combat Winter Eating?

  1. Body wants CARBS. Carbs are essential and isa macro. It's something that we need to survive and to thrive, especially forour brain health and hormone health.

  2. Protein and Good FATS. Likes nuts, fish, avocado, flax seeds justto name a few. Instead of going to eat more carbs then choose good protein andgood fats.

  3. DRINK more water. Make sure that you have minimally two litersof water a day, even when you don't feel like it is super important, there'snothing wrong with warm water or room temperature either.

How To Tackle Mondayitis

Truthfully I'm still not 100% good at combating it.

I've spent a lot of time lately figuring out why I'm feeling this way and I guess what I can do to shake things up.

  1. Take a break. If you start to feel slump, it's because you’re tired. You’re a bit overworked and you’re due for a bit of a break.

  2. Switching things up. Change environment. For example, I'm going to spend a morning at a coffee shop instead of at home and to do some work there.

  3. Have a schedule. If you have a daily to do lists, then you might change the schedule just to give you something different and freshen it up a bit.

  4. Setting Goals. If you are working for someone else. Make sure toset some new goals that you can stick to. And that will hopefully give you thatdrive to work ahead with things.

  5. Be Grateful. So at the end of the day, even though we have Mondayitis and we don't feel like doing things, which is totally ok. It's really important to be grateful for the fact that you have a job. Particularly if you have one that suits you and pays you well and your boss is great. You like the people you work with and, but even if not, it means that you can keep a roof over your head and food in your tummy. You know you're in the top percentage of privilege in the world.

Remember take some time out, take a break, reassess if you have holiday time coming up, especially over Easter.

How to Reset Your Mindset?

I want to talk about things that I do to reset my mindset, because mindset is such a huge part of everything that we do.

Your mindset at work, it's your mindset at home around your loved ones or your mindset in regards to your fitness, your eating, whatever it is, your mind really is the biggest tool that you have.

It is our greatest asset, but it is also can be our biggest enemy if we're not looking after it like we should.

Last weekend, I went away to this conference and there were some amazing guest speakers and one of them in particular was a paraplegic doctor. He was like the second paraplegic doctor in Queensland, I believe.

It was really cool to hear perspective of other people and you know, perspective is everything.

I think you'll find that most people who are wildly successful at what they do, but also really happy about what they do because, you can be successful at something and miserable or you can be thriving and loving it. So that's a big key difference here.

It's all to do with their mindset and their outlook on life.

Are you someone who looks at the glass half full or half empty?

It's the same when you're giving yourself self-talk, are you picking out all the bad parts about yourself or focusing on the things you haven't done or are you focusing on the good things that you have done and saying the nice things?

I read this quote on Instagram yesterday and it was something along the lines of that.

If you surround yourself with people who put you down or negative people, you're not surrounding yourself, you're caging yourself like you're being trapped in a cage. Whereas, as opposed to having a circle of positive people, if they're not positive, they're not a circle around you, they're a cage, an enclosure that you're stuck in because you're stuck in that negative rut.

What impact does that have on you if you've been around someone negative has that made you more negative or are you more positive and other people that you're surrounding yourself?

However, just make sure you're not that negative one, bringing them down.

Do you bring other positives as well or you mainly focusing on the negative?

Make sure you always are trying to be a bright light in people's lives and it will come back to you.

I really do believe that we all have a chance to make a difference.

I don't want to change the world. But if I can change one person's world, that's enough.

Thank you for listening! Like, share, subscribe and we would love it if you could leave us a review, but I hope you gained something from this.

Why Results Take Time

I get it all the time from clients, but particularly at the moment. I have a few who are on a bit of a deadline, you could say to lose that weight or gain that muscle or get whatever goal it is that they want and, you know, they're wanting to rush the process, but I stick to my guns and I won't and I tell them they need to trust the process.

My reasons are, why you should take time to get results as opposed to just hoping to get it straight away is that it's not sustainable.

I want you to think about it like a house. You have to smooth out the land and then put down the concrete and then put up the foundation and then you might start to add more structure to it.

So sure you may be improving one facet, but mental health is such an important factor about overall health.Holistic perspective of health, so you're looking at all of it, if you do stick to just one thing. But you exclude this or you cut out that is that going to be best for your health. So any changes I make need to be sustainable enough that you can still do many things and still work towards a goal because when we do sacrifice on time with loved ones or maybe you're at the gym so much. You aren't seeing your loved ones, either you've got to only eat this so you feel like you can't go out to dinner, whatever it is that you might be doing if it's detrimental on your relationships and things that you enjoy that are fun, that's not optimizing your mental health.

This is something I want you to think about when you are making choices and changes.

Look at it as a whole perspective. If it is good for all of your life and health, fantastic, you should 100% do it.

Thank you for listening and have a lovely day and we'll see you next week.

How Going from Summer to Autumn Affects Our Health

From summer to autumn, obviously we get shorter days and lower attempts and this means that there's less UV rays if the day is shorter. Means we're not outside as much, so we're not getting the same UV and the same dose of vitamin D.

That plays a big difference in your body when it goes from getting all this sunlight and fresh air to not as much.

Because there's a progressive reduction of hours of light, the change that impacts our mood and it can increase our anxiety and also our melancholy moods.

When there is less hours of light, the body becomes confused and it thinks that it needs more sleep to recover, which throws our circadian rhythms out of whack.

Circadian rhythm is the thing that regulates our sleeping patterns to help us have a good sleep or when it's not so good, maybe it is out of whack.

You might be getting more sleep because you're trying to do what's right for your body, but you wake up feeling even more fatigued. So the trick to this is you need to look at your circadian rhythm and fix it.

Make sure that you have a good sleep routine. Are you shutting down several hours before bed and putting away the screens? What are you eating before bed? What's your bedroom like?

The more you can do to regulate your sleep pattern, will help because you won't wake up feeling is exhausted.

This will obviously increase your serotonin which is going to make you feel better, it also affects your sleep patterns.Make a good routine to be outside in the sun and that you're trying to do that as often as possible.

Make sure you're giving your body all the freedom, veggies full of rich antioxidants and vitamins and minerals that we need to help to thrive, getting outside, doing things you like, making sure that you're exercising and you're really putting that time into you to make you feel better basically when we have a decreased serotonin, it can affect our mood, it can also affect our appetite and once again sleep.

Also, prioritizing a good sleep routine and prioritizing exercise routine. It is so important to prioritize time outside in the sun and the fresh air.

If you think that there's someone who would benefit from listening, please pass it on.I would love it if you could like, subscribe, and share or if you wanted to leave a review that would be magical.

Have a wonderful day and I'll be back in your ears next week.

Why Drink Water?

This is something I extremely passionate about and I really feel that adults don't drink enough water.

As a general rule, there's maybe like 30% to 40% of the population that do and the rest just seem to forget about it.

Why it's so important and how you can maximize the amount that you drink and make sure that you're getting enough what your body needs each day?

With the latest research, adults needed two liters of water a day, which is still actually kind of accurate just depending on your size and your energy levels and the rest of it.

But the latest thing that they're saying is that for every 15 kg of body weight, you need to be consuming at least 1.5 liters of water in a day.

Why is it important?

Our brains are made up of 85% water and so many other organs in our body are also made up of a huge percentage of water, such as our lungs, our heart, our kidneys, our liver.

So it is something that is very, very important for our body to function at its best.

However, one of the studies that has been shown to, shows that people would die from dehydration before they die of starvation.

Your body can withhold without food longer than it can withstand without water.

Recent studies have shown that not consuming enough water, this is going to reduce your concentration and your cognitive function.

It can affect your mental health, maybe it will affect your work performance as well.

If you want to get the most out of your concentration and your work or maybe you're studying, then really water is the first place to begin.

Water also helps with skin health.

It helps with the elasticity of your skin when you're dehydrated. Your skin being the biggest organ in your body shows that and it becomes dry and it reduces elasticity and you might find over time, you age a bit worse, you might wrinkle more. Skin health is a huge one metabolism as well.

So, if you are looking at speeding up your metabolism. Having enough water is a huge thing here.

So DRINK your WATER DAILY!

Setting Up Your Mindset For Success

A quick episode about how to shape your mindset for success.

It just takes a while to change your brain training so that you start doing it.

To look at a glass half full. Not a glass half empty.

So change it, to focus on the things that you're doing and don't worry about the things that you haven't yet achieved. Because things that you're doing are still better than what you didn't do last week, if that makes sense.

Focus on what you are doing and not what you're not. For example, if you're talking about eating, maybe you're like, I was really naughty, I went out and had this big dinner of KFC and then I had ice cream, I feel so bad, like I shouldn't have done it.

Meanwhile the rest of the day, you probably started your day with really healthy and nutritious breakfast, then you want an exercise, you had a wonderful lunch, good snacks throughout the day and yet you're putting yourself down for the day that you didn't do well.

I tell a lot of my clients that they should be having to treat meals a week and not to count calories, not to even think about it. Just to go and enjoy it, because if you're doing well the rest of the week. Why focus on that?

Just have something enjoyable that you like doing and that you're proud of yourself for.

By thinking positive, you will start doing better, you'll start feeling better and you'll be able to achieve the goals.

So just hang in there, be positive and focus on things you are doing and don't even worry about the things you're not, it's a waste of energy, it's a waste of brain space.

It takes time to get places and to achieve what you want to do and especially if you're setting new habits and you're trying something new and really pushing past boundaries.

It takes time and you need to be patient with yourself and proud of yourself for everything that you do.

Reasons Why You Should Venture Wway from Supermarket Shopping

I will share to you my Five reasons why you should venture from the usual supermarkets that you do your grocery shopping at. Some will like, oh, but why would I leave?

I have some really good compelling reasons and honestly, I think you'll be a little bit surprised and it might make you reconsider where you're getting your meals from every week.

  1. Supermarket prices kept going up.

All of a sudden the meat I was getting at Audi really wasn't that much cheaper, but also the quality was going down, so I wasn't even enjoying it.

I spent less than $160 for a week instead of 200 if I buy in supermarkets. Same amount that I normally but much better quality, it lasts longer and I feel better for it.

2. You will get better quality produce.

There so much variety and it’s also much cheaper.

3. Cheaper prices.

Last week we went to the meat hub and the best part was they have the least fruit and veggie store at the front and it's just from a local farm.

  1. You are supporting small businesses.

If you support small business, they are able to stay in business, which is great.I'm a small business, so I love to support small business.

  1. More sustainable for your health.

If you're eating better quality things, you're going to feel better. You're making sure that you're getting nourishment from the vitamins and minerals and all the nutrients in them.

These are my FOOD for Thought for this week.

If you have any questions or queries, send it through if your Gold Coast local, send us a message, we might be able to help you find somewhere where you can shop near your area as well.

Thank you for listening. Have a wonderful day and we'll see you next week.

How to jump back on the exercise bandwagon?

We are talking about, how to refocus on exercise again?

So most people go through phases or another of, you know, exercising heaps, being in a really good routine with it and then getting to the point where they just stop and it's really hard to get back to it and that's completely normal and you know, there's lots of reasons why this might happen.

That’s LIFE!

Maybe you just get really busy with work or family stuff, maybe you've been sick, maybe you've been injured, maybe you've just been flat out exhausted or you know, you've been distracted with other things totally normal.

Here are my tips on how to fix this and refocus on exercise:

1. Be kind to yourself.

Don't beat yourself up if you have fallen off the bandwagon because you’re normal. We've all done it. We want to motivate ourselves.

2. Having an accountability person.

So whether you've got your best friend, your partner. If you feel like there's no one like that in your life, hire a PT or a nutritionist or even like a life coach. Someone who can hype you up and get you going, tell them your goal, tell them what you want to do.

3. Make sure that you stick to what you say you're going to do.

Go through your goals. Constantly journaling and writing down goals. Look at ones that you've previously shared and think about, am I doing what I need to do to achieve this? Then you can review what did you achieve.

4. Just start.

Don't make it such a big scary thing and start small, like maybe it's a 10-minute walk for you.

Maybe you're going to do a 15-minute workout at home or follow a 15 min YouTube dance video and copy that.

So if you've been needing a sign to start, this is it! Take this as your sign and get into it!

Start today, start small, pick something that’s easy to do that you enjoy doing.

Thanks for listening. Have a wonderful day and we'll see you next week.

We are going to discuss protein.

Protein intake because this is a massive, massive, massive game changer when it comes to living a healthier life.

So it is really important to get it right and it makes the world of difference. Most females particularly, but also males that I talk to maybe eat 40% to 60% of their daily protein requirements.

So first things first, what is protein?

Its macronutrients. So our body has three macronutrients which is protein good fats and carbohydrates the body needs that to function and help it do all of the functions that it needs to survive basically.

So it's a really important one.

Protein comes from if you're looking at animal products, all your meats contain protein, also, eggs.

If you're looking at a more like a big and friendly side of things, your leg booms, lentils, chickpeas, green peas all come from protein as well and tofu as well.

Protein gives you energy. So if you have energy, you're going to have more physical energy, you're also going to have more mental energy. It helps you to concentrate and it helps you get through the day.

And as quick recap, start with one g per kilogram of body weight up to 1.5 and just look at adding it into every single meal that you have and snacks as well.

How to add movement into your life this 2023?

Here are my tips:

  1. Find time to exercise – plan that out so that you're prioritizing it and make sure it’s realistic time.

  2. Find movement that you enjoy doing and plan that out.

Example: Monday- going to the gym, Tuesday-dance class, Wednesday- walk, Thursday-gym, Friday- yoga class Saturday-walk and Sunday- rest day.

  1. Do not be afraid to REST.

Rest is so important for your muscles to recover so that they can heal and grow.

  1. Put yourself in a really good mindset.

If you miss an exercise, don't feel guilty, it's okay to listen to your body.

So listen to yourself, be real with yourself. If you need the rest, take the rest, if you're just being lazy maybe push yourself or that's a good time to get an accountability buddy.

Keep listening and sharing!

Hi healthy buddies!

What does healthy actually mean?

So to me, I would say that healthy is having energy in the morning, so waking up feeling rested and refreshed and jumping out of bed and not feeling tired.

I think it's really important to look at how you're feeling when you look at the definition of healthy over necessarily how you're looking.

You can answer these questions to check if you are healthy.

  1. How do you feel in the morning? Are you full of energy?

  2. How often do you get sick?

  3. How do you feel mentally?

  4. How do you feel when you eat something that's maybe a little bit naughty, like the chocolate cake or having too many drinks?

  5. How do you feel when you look in the mirror?

We can evaluate ourselves with these questions and we can so much about our body. Have a beautiful day and keep smiling.

Keep listening and sharing!

Can you believe that we are entering 2023 already?

So given that it's a new year, I thought it would only be fitting to talk about how are you starting your new year?

So we're talking about mindset, we're talking about healthier habits, exercise eating, what are you shifting from your life that you maybe need to and you know, the new year is a great time to really reassess and figure out what it is that you want and maybe what you need to let go of in order to get that.

So the first bit that I want you to think about is you were worthy.

So let's look at this in a job perspective, if you are really wanting a new job or a pay raise this year, if you don't deem yourself worthy of it?

How can you expect anyone else to put you in that category as well?

So, for example, with my work, I might say that I'm extremely knowledgeable and that I'm caring per client and therefore I treat each client with the utmost respect. But I also give them exactly the tools that they need to help them to succeed.

I might even say that I am dedicated and that I really do bring 110% to what I'm doing. Therefore I am worthy.

Second, consistency over quantity.

So that means rather than doing something to an extreme, we're doing a lesser amount, but we're consistent with it and it's a quality thing that we're doing.

So maybe you need to start with two or three times a week and if you need things in place to help you do that.

So whether that's a gym buddy or signing up to go do classes or getting a personal trainer, find the tools that you need to help you be consistent.

So let's aim for a smaller amount but consistent.

What are you wanting to achieve this 2023?

You can comment it and we can discuss it over.

Please feel free to send us a message and DM us, you can find us on Instagram or Facebook, we actually have a Facebook community now called healthy not hungry.

Have a beautiful day and remember you are worthy and you deserve every great thing that comes your way and you can do it and I'm here for you.
