Pastor David Carns concludes his 3 part look at the purposes of the Lord's Supper by addressing the fact that the Lord's Supper is a meal of examination and that the Lord's Supper is a meal of fellowship.
Pastor David Carns continues to walk us through this text in which the Apostle Paul brings out the purposes of the Lord's Supper. Today we look at purposes three and four. The Lord's Supper is a meal of hope and the Lord's Supper is a meal of Thanksgiving.
In the church today it would not be surprising to find that many of God's children participate in the Lord's Supper and yet do not fully understand the purpose of the supper. Today we begin to look at a text that brings out six purposes of the Lord's Supper. This is truly a text that will bring a clear understanding of the supper for all of God's children.
There are people all over the world that say they believe in Jesus. Yet for the most part the world proclaims a superficial faith in Jesus, not a saving faith. In this section of John's gospel Pastor David Carns preaches on true saving faith.
We conclude our look at Jesus and his time spent with the people of the village of Sychar. And we also conclude our look at some of the traits of Jesus that the text brings out.
We see a third trait of Jesus that is brought out in this text and that is the trait of omniscience. And what is special about this piece of scripture is, the omniscience of Jesus is seen as Jesus reveals that the people of Sychar are about to come to him by faith.
This text that concludes the narrative of Jesus and his conversation with the Samaritan woman brings out four traits of Jesus. Today we look at trait number two, "The overwhelming joy of Jesus".
Pastor David Carns concludes his look at a unique trait of Jesus and that is "The Providence of Jesus".
David begins a series of messages that is called "The traits of Jesus". Trait number one "Providence".
David now brings out the third point in this look at true worship and that is "The design of true worship".
Pastor continues to bring out aspects of true worship and today we see that true worship can take place anytime and at anyplace.
Pastor David Carns takes us into a deeper look at worship and in this podcast the focus is "God is the object of our worship".
We conclude looking at the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. And as we come to the end of this conversation we see that Jesus gives us the definition of true worship.
We continue with our look at this sermon series that we are calling "The principles of evangelism". And we come to find that the gospel promotes true worship.
Pastor David Carns continues to walk through this series called "The principles of evangelism". Principle four in the series is "The gospel requires the confrontation of sin". And in today's podcast we continue to look at aspects of this very important truth.
As we continue to look at the conversation between Jesus and the woman at the well we look at point four in this series called "The principles of evangelism". Point four is "The gospel requires the confrontation of sin". And what we will see today is without confronting sin it is certain that falls conversions will follow.
As Jesus continues to speak to the woman at the well he shares that eternal life comes with unending blessings.
The Christian gospel goes against the world's thinking about eternal life and that is the gospel of Jesus Christ says that eternal life is a free gift. The world says you have to work for eternal life. In our continued study regarding the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well we find that Jesus makes this point very clear.
We continue with the first point from this series that we are calling the principles of evangelism which is "The gospel is for the least of these". We see this point in the conversation that Jesus has with the Samaritan woman at the well.
As the encounter begins between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well we begin to look at a sermon series called "The principles of Evangelism". The first principle is "The gospel is for the least of these". We begin to look at this point today.
Jesus, who is all God is also all man, and when we see him arrive at Jacob's well we see his humanity. We are able learn from this that we have a high priest who sympathizes with us.
We now begin our look at John 4. And as we open up this narrative David begins by looking at the setting.
Today we read the final recorded words of John the Baptist in scripture. And we will see that John speaks of love gifts that the Father gives to Jesus but then we will also see that in the end, John was truly a gospel preacher.
As John the Baptist speaks of the superiority of Jesus he makes it clear that Jesus possesses the infinite fullness of the Spirit of God. This is a claim that no man can make other than Jesus.
As John the Baptist continues to give reasons as to why Jesus must increase, he makes the statement that Jesus affirms that God is true.
We continue to look at the reasons that John the Baptist gives as to why Jesus is to increase and reason number two is, Jesus speaks the word of God.
John Baptist reveals why Jesus is to be the one that is to increase. And the first reason is, "Jesus is from heaven".
Today we take a look at the issue that arose among the disciples of John the Baptist and how John responded with humility.
When John the Baptist made the statement "He must increase, and I must decrease", John was making a tremendous statement regarding humility. And as a result we have a text that teaches the "Attitude of Humility". Today Pastor David Carns sets the scene for this narrative as we see the overlapping of the ministries of Jesus and John the Baptist.
Jesus makes himself known to Nicodemus as "The Light". And as we will find there are some that hate the Light and there are others that love the Light.
There are those that believe that they are living in a time that God is weighing their good works against their bad and that in the future God will cry out a verdict. Yet, scripture teaches that a future verdict is not going to be made but a verdict has already been made, a verdict by the way that can be reversed by placing faith in Jesus.
Jesus shares with Nicodemus that he did not come to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him.
After shocking Nicodemus with the statement that God will save whoever believes, Jesus explains this for Nicodemus.
In the text today we see that Jesus makes it very clear to Nicodemus that one must believe in Messiah for salvation.
Jesus tells Nicodemus that true faith in Jesus does something that works could never do and that is faith brings about a changed life for all to see.
Even though there will be those times that someone will say no to the Gospel, the Christian continues to share.
The conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus has two parts. Part one focuses on the sovereignty of God and part two focuses on belief. Today David takes us to the second part of the conversation as Jesus brings up the unbelief of Nicodemus.
We continue to see how the Holy Spirit of God works in eternal life as our seal and our guarantee.
As we continue this study into the doctrine of regeneration we look at the "How" and the "Why" of regeneration.
When Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, "Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God", he was teaching the doctrine of regeneration. At this point we take time to look into this doctrine by going to James 1.
Jesus takes Nicodemus to school and teaches The teacher of Israel what scripture says about eternal life.
We continue to look at this man by the name of Nicodemus, a Pharisee who desired to speak with Jesus.
We begin a look at a piece of scripture that many believe is the most important scripture in all the bible. This is a look at the encounter between Nicodemus and Jesus. And in this text we find that works will never save a person.
The Apostle John continues to prove the deity of Jesus by showing that Jesus is omniscient and specifically that Jesus knows what is in man.
Early on in John's gospel, the Apostle has proven the deity of Jesus through the testimony of others and also by the miracles of Jesus. At this point in the text John now proves the deity of Jesus through the omniscience of Jesus, that Jesus knows all things. And specifically in this text we see that Jesus knows all that is to come.
Jesus drives out the vendors and the money changers at the temple. At the same time Jesus exhibits a wonderful zeal for the Father, a zeal that every believer can have.
We see Jesus at the front end of his ministry as he makes his way to the temple. And when there Jesus works a miracle in the midst of thousands.
Jesus works his first miracle, the changing water into wine. And then we also see the results of this miracle which include the witnessing of the glory of God and the belief of the disciples.
When a predicament arises at the wedding in Cana, Mary knows just what to do and that is, to go to the one that has all of the answers, Jesus.
David begins a look at the beginning of the ministry of Jesus as it begins at a wedding in Cana.
As we close out this look at John 1 we see Jesus proclaiming to Nathanael that the Christian will see greater things.
When we think of evangelism many times we think of the evangelist sharing the gospel with hundreds or even thousands of people. Yet, for the most part, evangelism is one Christian telling one lost person about Jesus. This is what we see in the calling of Nathanael.
David continues to walk through this part of John's narrative regarding the calling of the first disciples of Jesus. Today David looks at the calling of Philip.
As David wraps up looking at the calling of Andrew and John he brings out the point that God calls on the simple to share the Good News of Jesus.
As David continues to look at the calling of Andrew and John he looks at Andrew's desire to tell someone else about Jesus.
This series concerning the testimony of John the Baptist about Jesus concludes with the "Commitment to Jesus".
David continues to look at John the Baptist's testimony concerning Jesus, that we entitle "This is who Jesus is".
David brings out the second testimony of John the Baptist concerning Jesus and that is "This is who Jesus is".
David begins a series looking at the testimony of John the Baptist concerning our Lord, Jesus. And the first declaration that John the Baptist makes in the text is "Jesus is here"!
In this last section of the prologue to John's gospel the apostle continues to share how he knew that Jesus is God. And what we find is John saw God through Jesus. And to get even more detailed, John says that Jesus actually explained God.
David continues to draw out from this final portion of John's prologue how the Apostle knew that Jesus is God. This second point speaks of God's grace lived out through Jesus.
In the prologue to the Gospel of John, the apostle's main focus is proving that Jesus is deity. And at this point in the prologue John goes about stating how he came to realize that Jesus is truly God. The first point is John saw the glory of God through the life of Jesus.
David concludes this look at Gospel Principles by bringing out the point that the gospel speaks of an exclusive savior.
David looks at the third gospel principle in this series which deals with the believers adoption into God's family.
David is continuing to walk through a portion of John's gospel that we are calling "Gospel Principles". And in this section David speaks about the depravity of man.
In this text David brings out what he is calling Gospel principles. There are four in the text, the first being "Jesus is the light of God".
David concludes this brief look at the emphasis of evangelism by spending some more time looking at the preaching and ministry of John the Baptist.
John the Apostle spends time giving a lesson on evangelism by focusing on John the Baptist. This is the first part of a two part series that is entitled "The emphasis of evangelism".

With the assurance of victory over sin, the true believer is one that will live a life of habitual righteousness, but perfection, but consistent holiness. David at this point in the series is answering the question, "How can the true believer live such a life?" And in today's podcast the final answer is given and the answer is the protection of Jesus.
The true believer in Jesus is assured of victory of sin. And when this happens there is a habitual life of righteousness that takes place in the life of the Christian. At this point in the series David is addressing the question "How can the Christian live a consistent life of holiness?" In this episode we discover the place that the Holy Spirit of God has in this answer.
David continues to bring out from scripture how the true believer can live out a life of continual righteousness.
Victory over sin is a guarantee for the Christian and as a result the life of the Christian will be lived out with consistent righteousness. Yet there is a question and that is "How can the believer in Jesus live out such a life"? David begins to bring out the answer to that question from scripture in this episode of today's podcast.
In this introduction to verse 18 out of 1st John 5, David brings out the truth that the true believer is no longer in bondage to sin but is now in bondage to righteousness and as a result the true believers life will be consistently lived out in righteousness.
David closes out this look regarding answered prayer by looking at a prayer that God will not answer.

God promises that answered prayer is assured for every believer. In this episode of the podcast David begins this part of the series by first pointing out from the text that the Christian can pray with confidence.

For the true believer in Jesus there is the assurance of eternal life. And as David brings this point out he focuses on the tests that prove that salvation is real in the true believer in Jesus.
In this series from the final section of 1st John, we find that the apostle lays out 5 items that the true believer in Jesus can always be assured of. The first item of assurance is eternal life.
The runner in a race is not to give up. The same is true for the Christian as the Christian life if lived out. No matter how hard the race may get, no matter how difficult the Christian life might become, the Christian continues to live the life out. In this final edition of this series David brings out this truth and the benefits of continuing to run, or to live out the Christian life.
Every race has results that await the runner and in the race called the Christian life there are results that await as well. In this edition of "Time in God's Word" David brings out the results that await every Christian.
A runner in a race will never be successful if he is looking all around the stadium as he runs. The successful runner will keep his eyes focused ahead. The same is true in the race that is called the Christian life. The Christian will have a disciplined focus and that focus will be on Jesus.
A key element to running the Christian life effectively is the dropping of sin from our lives. What enables the Christian to do this is the growing of your relationship with God. David brings this out in this edition of today's podcast.

The one that loves with the love of God is the one that will not fear the judgement. This is the point that John makes in this part of his letter and this is the point that David focuses on today.

The Apostle John writes in this portion of his letter that when the Christian lives out the perfected love of God that the Christian is witnessing to Jesus.

And in this podcast David brings out how God's love lived out on a habitual basis is proof of true salvation. David also brings out what the phrase "God is love" means. These are two important principles regarding God's love.
The Apostle John writes of a perfected love, a love that cannot be improved upon. And in this series about love we first learn that perfected love is from God.
David continues to share the true marks of the true preacher and in this section of John's letter we find that another mark of the true preacher of God will stay true to the Word of God.

The Apostle John writes that there are false preachers and true preachers. David takes us through this text and brings out the marks of the true preacher. In this section we find that the true preacher of God is one that will confess the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
John teaches that false teachers are real and that they are many in number. David takes us through part two of this series on testing the spirits.

The world is full of different testimonies about Jesus. And yet it is God the Father that gives us the true testimony concerning his son. One place that God actually witnessed concerning his son was at the baptism of Jesus. Today, David takes us back to Matthew 3 and looks at the what God the Father actually said regarding Jesus.
All throughout the world there are testimonies given about Jesus and yet the only true testimony concerning Jesus is the one that comes from God the Father. And this is what John addresses in this text that encompasses 1st John 5:6-12. Today, David is going to begin to look at the first event at which God testified about his son and that event is the baptism of Jesus.

There is a question everyone is eventually confronted with and that is, "If you died today how do you know you would be with God in heaven"? David gives the biblical response in today's lesson.
David concludes this look in the "Overcomer Series" by looking at the final element that John uses to describe the true believer in Jesus, the overcomer, and that element is joyful obedience.

We are finding in our study of 1st John 5:1-5 that the "Overcomer" is marked out by true faith. What we will find in today's lesson is that true faith is described as belief in the "True Christian faith".
As we continue in this study of 1st John 5:1-5 we continue to look at true faith, this faith when lived out consistently, proves that a person is an overcomer, a true Christian. Today we will find that this true faith is a faith that endures.
The Apostle John brings out three elements that give assurance of being a true overcomer, a true believer in Jesus. We begin to look at the first element today which is faith. And we will find that true faith begins by believing in all that Jesus is and all that Jesus has done.
David walks us through two more areas that true victory can be proclaimed by the true believer in Jesus.
When one places true faith in Jesus there is a true victory that takes place and that victory in-part takes place over the devil and over death.
Scripture uses many different words to describe the true believer in Jesus, one of which is "Overcomer" or the one that "Overcomes". And in todays podcast David is going to introduce this series by simply giving the meaning of this word as it applies to the Christian.
One result of our obedience towards God is that God will work through the obedience to reveal himself to us in ways that we have never experienced. And when this happens the Christian cannot help but be amazed and say wow!
There is the idea that if you just obey God then life will be smooth sailing but that is not always the case. In this episode of "Time in God's Word" we are going to see that there are times that as a result of our obedience towards God that life in turn gets hard. And understand that God has His reasons for this.
