Growing up in Pittsburgh, I’ve always felt a deep connection to Warhol’s art, from his Campbell’s Soup cans to the museum's vibrant displays. My previous encounter with KAWS left me skeptical, but the exhibit's buzz and crowd drew me in.
While visually striking, I found the connection between Warhol and KAWS somewhat forced. Warhol’s legacy in Pop Art and consumer culture contrasts sharply with KAWS' playful commercial figures. Tune into today's episode recommending 10 beach reads for geeks; nerds; poindexters. Abeach read, to me, is a book that is lighter and easily devour-able. You know, the kind of book that you pick up and cannot put down; a book you make short order of in one or a few sittings. But, as you can expect from me, even my “lighter” recommendations are a bit dense and opaque. After all, I am the girl who read Infinite Jest while lounging at the beach a couple years ago. That is why this episode is aptly titled “Beach Reads for Poindexters” -- a poindexter is a nerd or a geek; a bookish individual, likely socially awkward. I use the term lovingly and playfully. But yeah... these are beach reads for nerds like me, those of us who still want some enrichment out of our summer reading.

I listen to albums like I read books: when I find an album that I love, I listen to it top to bottom on repeat for weeks or months at a time, almost reading it as a narrative. I don't love talking about music, because once I start talking about music, I realize how little I actually know about music in a critical sense. But albums really make up my year and remind me of eras of my life so I want to share that with you all and keep it as an archive for myself, too.
