Despite the growing toll on human lives, financial costs, and the ubiquity of disasters, many deployments remain focused on physical infrastructures and drive their approaches to the global crisis in a very central way. It is antinomic to the current reality—overwhelmed by inequality—necessitating heterogeneous, decentralized frameworks, social hubs, and new axes to help people at the local level.
This third and last part of our series, “Build a resilient and responsive organization,” highlights the critical role of preparation in the initial phases of priorities and perspectives—leverage the network relevance, then find the right path to productivity and growth leading to strengthening the response of an organization.

Unexpected turbulences, crises, and disruptions characterize the current landscape and impose more significant challenges to organizations that show their vulnerabilities and express many concerns about their survival and their businesses' sustainability.
Communities' ability to innovate, plan for, respond to, and recover from emergencies requires responsiveness and resilience. These processes are all interdependent and interrelated components of any organization.
The priority is to assess the network in which an organization evolves to understand its resilience strengths and weaknesses and formulate an overall collaborative strategic plan.

Innovation, integrity, and responsibility should be at the core of every organization that should adopt a collaborative mindset to focus on engaging with stakeholders, support a sustainable community, and contribute to delightful experiences and activities while taking care of keeping diversity and inclusion as core priorities.
The reinforcing loop — culture — is one of the foundations of that core. If leaders and executives truly want to derive meaningful business benefits from that core and use data analytics and platform models, they must proactively address their organization's core identities before trying to introduce large-scale transformation initiatives. This requires data to ensure fairness in people processes and outcomes, and build a more representative workforce.
The use of data is imperative to inform everything organizations operate, from the way products and services are developed to the way diversity is designed, equity, and inclusion efforts are adopted.

The notions of circularity in the economy, the shortage and perishable nature of resources, the stationarity of growth rates, the rejection of consumerist abuses, the criticism of the society of abundance, the appeal for sharing and reciprocity, the preservation of the environment, are all part of linear thinking that has dominated since the beginning of the third industrial revolution, and it has led to growth and prosperity in many parts of the world.

The world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion persons in the next 30 years, from 7.7 billion currently to 9.7 billion in 2050, according to the United Nations report launched in 2019.
Two-thirds of the world population now lives in cities—a figure projected to continue to grow in the years to come—and with this continued urban growth comes new infrastructure challenges.
As a result, global and local decision-makers, policymakers, practitioners need to reconsider how to build more intelligent infrastructures, from how to design and construct buildings to the ways people move, define the products and services for different types of cities in particular countries and continents that may possess different challenges to smart city economic development.

To mitigate the consequences of the virus, organizations that managed to maintain their activities and contributed to support those on the front lines or even readdressed their activities with an increased focus on a recovery plan, while building a robust corporate culture, eventually demonstrated sustainable financial performance.
