Recently, Prof Sridhar Guda of IIM-K had posted a story on master & pupil wherein sons of Brahma (Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatkumara & Sanatsuiata) were in search for a Guru. They searched & approached many including the trinity (Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu). They were unhappy as each one of them enjoyed their consorts.
The story continues that Shakti (Mata) suggested Lord Shiva to adapt to the expectations of the disciples rather than the other way around. Shiva appeared in the form the disciples liked and taught them in the form they understood. This is when he takes the form of Dakshinamurthy (teacher imparting all type of knowledge) to teach wisdom through stillness & silence to the sons of Brahma.
Even the sons of Brahma went searching for a teacher, mentor or a coach. However, it is increasingly difficult to find one and when it happens, its purely through serendipity.
In this episode, Dr. Jagdish and I discussed the need for mentor in these times of change wherein the needed skillsets are rapidly emerging - faster than one could respond, adapt. We also discussed how a non-reader can still evaluate the need and author books.
