This episode begins our conversation about the distinct American culture: the values, perspectives, attitudes, and actions by individuals that collectively form our culture. The Founders had specific thoughts about how to sustain their experiment of a self-governed society and they concluded that it was not the systems they put in place that organized the society that would effectively stand against tyranny, it was, and is, the culture that would be the strongest barrier to a return to a Ruler-Subject form of social order.
How do economic systems influence the behavior of people within their society? This lesson examines how different economic systems promote vice or virtue, and whether or not the American economic system aligns or contradicts the principles of the Declaration.
Throughout history different societies have had different economic systems, but the differences in these systems were in fact, quite small. This episode discusses the different forms of economic systems, how they work and how they impact the people within the society.
Once the Constitution was adopted and our governmental systems were put in place, the Founders had the task of creating an economic system that would fulfill the Principles of the Declaration of Independence. The result was an entirely new system based on new ideas about how individuals can prosper and thrive; "The Pursuit of Happiness." Learn where these ideas came from and how they were put in place.
The U.S Constitution was written, approved, and ratified in 100 days. We'll examine the process and the outcomes.

Happy July 2nd! Independence Day has some twists and turns that might surprise you. The details are fascinating.
The acquisition of Liberty is articulated in the final sections of the Declaration of Independence, followed by years of war and chaos as the United States of America tries to sort out how to organize this new and unique nation before it crumbles and dies.

Episode 4 continues with the 5 Principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence; 1. All Men are Created Equal, 2. They are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, and 3. Among these are life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The brevity of the words is not an indication of the power of their meaning. Stan and Philip will continue to discuss their meaning and the impacts they had on 18th Century societies.

This episode of the Legacy Project begins our examination of the Declaration of Independence. We will begin to unpack the document, but we'll also look back into the history preceding July, 1776 to see what influenced the thinking and beliefs of the colonists that ultimately resulted in them separating from Great Britian. Once the context is understood, the Premise section of the Declaration will be our topic of discussion.
The Legacy Project is a program that uses early American history to show how personal legacies can be built that will have a positive impact on generations yet unborn. The creation of the project and it’s effect on hundreds of participants who have experienced the program is described in this introduction.
