Cancel culture is the idea of taking away support for an individual, their career, popularity and fame because of something theyโve said or done thatโs considered unacceptable.
Most of the time, people are โcancelledโ because they are a public figure with influence over a huge audience and what theyโve done or said is alleged to have caused harm to a particular person, group of people or community. For example, many of those who have been โcancelledโ have received this public backlash following accusations of violent, sexist, racist, homophobic or transphobic activities or comments. Social Media has given a rise to a wave of toxic positivity. I know you might be thinking, how can positivity be a bad thing? It's the over generalisation of being happy or optimistic in all situations no matter how dire they may be. Toxic positivity is similar to a "Positive Vibes Only" mindset, where people believe that no matter how difficult or stressful a situation is, one should try to maintain a positive mindset. However this can often be an insincere mindset that causes more harm than good.

In response to the backlash that Molly Mae received this past week, Jamal and Julian share their opinion on the trending topic. In December of 2021 Molly Mae (Creative Director of Pretty Little Thing) was interviewed on Steven Bartlett's podcast (The Diary of a CEO) where she discusses her journey from her childhood to now. When the podcast was released no one kicked up a fuss. However this week a snippet of the episode was posted on Steven Bartlett's Instagram where we see Molly Mae mention that we all have the same 24hrs and we chose what we want to do with it.
