For State The Aviousβ Kwanzaa 2020 Imani finale celebration Avi Grace welcomes a poet who simply goes by βKenjiβ and Goddess Angela Carter to the State the Avious microphone. For State The Aviousβ Kwanzaa 2020 Umoja conversation Avi Grace welcomes Empress Rene Couret to the State the Avious microphone. This episode lifts up "Umoja", the first principle of Kwanzaa which means "Unity". Β The conversation centers around idea of "being a bridge in community" instead of simply "building" a bridge between the deep divides within community. Rene Β is a fair skinned Afro-Latina woman from San Diego, California who has lived and traveled across the continental United States many times. November 14, 2001, Evangelist Phyllis Randall (Aviβs Grandmother) donated her kidney to her nephew. In honor of the nineteenth anniversary of that sacrifice Avi Grace sits down with her grandmother to discuss her journey. Phyllis tells the story of how her nephewβs struggle on dialysis. Including how he came to her and asked her for help and her response of βif weβre a match I will give you a kidneyβ. Avi Grace also speaks with Beth Hinesley, a Registered Nurse who has worked for Carolina Donor Services nearly twenty-five years. Carolina Donor Services is a non-profit postmortem organ, tissue, and eye donation collection agency based through North Carolina and one county in Virginia. Beth Hinesley, now a coordinator for Carolina Donor Services recounts the events that inspired her interest in work with organ donation.
Beth provides much need information surrounding postmortem organ donation especially as it relates to LGBTQ people, people living with HIV, and Black people. She dispels the myths of not being able to have a open-casket and so much more. Beth also goes into detail about organ donation between HIV positive donors and patients. She believes she has found her calling in life in helping people donate life.

In a world that throws labels on EVERYTHING, with anything not meeting the standards of "normalcy" being demonized, in this episode we explore the Divine right and actual nature of goodness that is present in every person and everything. We explore the scene and theme of Genesis 1, especially later in the chapter the scene that sets up the first affirmation for all creation, the affirmation of "goodness".
Genesis 1:31: "GOD saw all that He had made, and beheld that it was very good."
It is with that affirmation in mind that we can begin to re-imagine ourselves as "Good" and not the labels that society, family, and even religion has attached to us. We are not what or who they claim for us. We are the creation and creatives of GOD; we are Good...and dare I say Holy.
