XANDRA chats with musician Kimmi Bitter about performing, career aspirations, natural health and so much more in this dynamic episode peppered with captivating original music.
With a strong affinity for the roots of American music, Kimmi Bitter is a throwback mixed between 1960’s western twang, sultry twelve-bar blues, and old fashioned rock n' roll. Styling her songs around the classic sounds of Patsy Cline, Elvis, and Linda Ronstadt, the San Diego native's music features a California take on traditional country and soul.
Kimmi Bitter may be considered an artist born in the wrong era. Struggling to connect with the modern top 40 hits, she drowned herself in the various genres of the ’50s through ’70s analog era and took a plunge into the roots revival scene. In 2019, she debuted two EPs “West Side Twang” and “Take Me Back”. She was nominated in her hometown for San Diego Music Awards best country/Americana artist of 2020.
A strong believer in minimalism and retro-technology, her recordings are about the tape hiss, human vocal pads taking place over a modern synth, tracking the innate energy of a live band and the imperfections that our perfectly produced music society lacks. She states “Music is a tool for making human connection and people are hungry for it. A connection that thrives through empathy, vulnerability, authenticity, truth, flaws — and my songwriting is a vision directed towards that.”

Corina Rose is in love with the human story – the way we connect, fall in love, and become love; the way we blend and burn and rise. Her latest album, rich in musical influences that span from jazz to reggae, is an eight song journey through the arch of our individual love stories. Lead by the soulful “I Prayed for You,” in which the meeting of two people sparks a transformational journey, the album winds through the seduction, magic, and beautiful humanity of love, landing in the heart-driven melody of “It Takes Love,” a reminder to all of us to give, lean in, and receive.
The child of hippie political activists whose unconventional upbringing made her stand out from her peers, Corina Rose turned to music to connect with the world around her. As a classically trained singer and music teacher, it wasn’t until she picked up a guitar and began to write that the path and purpose for her music became clear. Drawing inspiration from Sade, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, and Amy Winehouse, the songs began to flow through her. Since then, she’s been combining her passions and building a career that firmly and fully lives into the mystical love story. Whether it’s leading hundreds of students in song, touring Europe and playing at the feet of some of the world’s most recognizable monuments, or participating as a vibrant member of San Diego’s live music scene, every moment of her work is inspired to create connection. Her music is like medicine that inspires others live their dreams and be extraordinary, move through fear by appreciating the magic of the unknown, and open themselves up to loving each other to create a better world.
Corina’s transcendent love songs capture the journey of finding, experiencing, and connecting with the love that is inside us all. In the next few years, she’ll be singing her story at festivals, venues, and unconventional spaces around the world, and it’s her hope that you will join her, that you will feel the joy that inhabits her words and carry it with you as you go. Let her songs be your impetus to follow your art and your heart and gift the world with the wonder of you. She hopes to help you fall a little more in love with your own story, that you might be inspired to tell, sing, and live it well.
