Winnie was found at around 3 weeks old on the roadside, based on her injuries on her front legs and grazing on her face it looks as though she fell or jumped from a truck - likely on her way to a B&B unit where they fatten piglets for slaughter. Winnies fall will have saved her life!

Winnie is now at Greenwood Sanctuary where she will live for the rest of her life. commercial breed pigs live anywhere from 10-15 years and there are lots of costs involved in their care such as food, bedding, shelter and vet costs. let's raise as much as we can to cover Winnie's costs and say a huge thank you to Greenwood for taking her in <3

Reuben has been hearing all about the conflict Ukraine - and wanted to do his bit to help children in the Ukraine. He decided to go busking and raise funds for Save The Children.

Ukraine's children are living in fear. They face ever-present danger  of being killed, injured or suffering severe emotional distress. The war is forcing children and families to shelter in basements and bomb shelters to escape explosions. They have already lived through eight years of conflict, enduring violence, shelling, and being forced to flee their homes.7.5 million Ukraine children are now in danger. Amid freezing temperatures, power cuts and food shortages, every day is a struggle to survive. Families are forced to flee their homes. They need urgent help accessing water, shelter, and food.

Emily's Story
My name is Emily.

I tested positive for COVID on the 15th September 2021, I was poorly and also couldn't move properly without being in constant pain.

I now have long COVID and have been severe pain for 3 months and am relearning how to walk again. I spent 14 nights in hospital where the doctors and nurses were very puzzled as they did not know what was wrong with me they were really supportive and after lots of tests concluded that this was the result of COVID.

To thank them I am determined to raise money for the NHS Charities Together by completing 17 laps around my garden between 1st December and Christmas eve to represent the 14 nights I spent in hospital and the 3 months I have been battling.

Please give whatever you can. #Iamstronger

        • Update:
Hi everyone, Emily here. I have found the support from this page so overwhelming and it has really pushed me on to reach my original target of 17 laps before the 24th. I have decided to push myself a bit further and now am aiming to complete a lap without my walker. This will be an even greater challenge for me to complete.

Thank you so much for all your kind words and generous donations, keeping popping by to see how I am doing! * *

This old bike was free on FB marketplace, so I thought "What could I do?"

Well, on the morning of the 6th Feb, straight from a night shift at Caversham Road, Reading, I'll hop on this old bike and begin cycling north for my four days off. How far North will I get?

And yes, this is what I'll be wearing.

Anthony was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in May 2017 aged 60 and given a worst case prognosis of 2 years. Exercise has been a vital part of coping with his diagnosis and he believe that it will extend his prognosis.
Move Charity are encouraging those living with and beyond cancer to exercise and he was delighted to become the Wilmslow parkrun ambassador and NW regional champion to help develop the initiative across the North West. He hopes to raise a few quid to support their amazing work so he has decided to try to run or hike at least 5k every day for a year in 2022 (as you do). It will mainly be running but he has a hiking holiday in July so he’s allowed himself to include hikes but they’ll be proper hikes.

Being diagnosed with cancer means people face an extremely tough journey. There is so much thrown at you both physically and mentally during treatment and it doesn’t just stop there. MOVE is embarking on a mission to inspire people to #MoveAgainstCancer MOVE provide practical and online support to people living with and beyond cancer. Fiona's Story

I have been raising money for breast cancer research for nearly 20 years, after facing my own diagnosis in 2001. Since receiving brilliant care at Ninewells Hospital, I wanted to help other patients by raising money for research, but I hated the idea of just asking for money - I wanted to give something in return. So my idea of selling my homemade tablet was born. And, thanks to the local running community, youth football teams and other supporters, nearly 20 years and over 10,000 trays of tablet later, I've raised £93,000. Not bad for a one-woman operation whose manufacturing tools consist of a pot, wooden spoon and a baking tray! In the past I have even sponsored a drug trial that had a successful outcome. However, Covid has now made it extremely difficult to raise money. There are no events for me to go to, I cannot approach people in the same way and also they are just not now carrying cash anymore. To put it into perspective I have raised half the amount in the past two years that I did in 2019 alone. I've thought that the 20th anniversary of my first tablet sale or £100,000 would be a good time to stop but I am determined to reach that figure before I do. And that's where I need your help. Therefore I would be immensely grateful if you would consider making a donation to help me support breast cancer research at the University of Dundee and ensure the scientists and clinicians can continue their progress and hopefully breakthroughs in the battle against this horrible disease.

Maggie Watts – 'Pancreatic Cancer Advocate, campaigning for more awareness and more funding of Pancreatic Cancer'https://www.hopeiscontagious.co.uk/

For the last 10 years (in my spare time as I work full time) I've campaigned for more awareness and more funding for pancreatic cancer as a result of losing my husband, Kevin to the disease and discovering that survival rates hadn't improved at all in the 40 years prior to his death - I know this because Kev's mum had also died of pancreatic cancer exactly 40 years earlier (aged 27) and nothing had changed whatsoever in all of that time.

This was a shock to me and also unbelievable and unacceptable that nothing had changed in all of that time - after Kev died it became a mission of mine (and also a coping mechanism for grief) to see what I could do to raise awareness. I started a Government e-petition and took to social media to try and find 100,000 people to sign - to try and become eligible for a Parliamentary Debate.

The petition was a year's long work full of highs and lows -

Lows

  • spending every waking hour (when I wasn't at work) working on the e-petition, including staying up until the early hours most nights yet still not managing to get many signatures. Only 3 weeks left until it closed and still needed to find 52k signatures!

Highs

  • when lots of celebrities on social media discovered it and decided to back it! When Coronation Street ran a pancreatic cancer storyline and Julie Hesmondhalgh (who played Hayley Cropper the character affected in the storyline) decided to support the campaign and mentioned it on pretty much every TV interview she did, including her acceptance speech at the National TV Awards.

I decided to call my next campaign Hope Is Contagious because I wanted to believe that just because it's grim now and has been for all those years, that doesn't mean we can't believe and strive for future hope. I'm realistic about where we are at but I truly believe that if we continue to lobby for change and for more funding and continue to get as much awareness out there as we can then we will see improved survival rates in the future.

Hope is Contagious started out as a badge campaign and the badge is in the shape of a teardrop which represents our hope for a day when tears don't have to accompany a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

The Hope Is Contagious campaign is all about raising awareness of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer because early diagnosis is the only way to survive.

I didn't know the symptoms all of those years ago - I didn't know anything about pancreatic cancer. If I had known the symptoms, I truly believe Kev may have been found at an operable stage as I would have encouraged him to seek medical guidance sooner. With hindsight, I can see he had the symptoms for about 9 months before he was diagnosed and when he was diagnosed he had just gone past the operable stage as the tumour had wrapped around the portal vein - being diagnosed 9 months earlier could have been the difference between life and death. So that's why I promote awareness of the symptoms through my website, social media and also giving talks to Rotary Clubs and local businesses etc.

Pancreatic Cancer Stats:

It's the 11th most common cancer in the UK and the 5th highest cancer killer in the UK

It receives less than 3% of cancer research funding

c9,000 people a year die of pancreatic cancer in the UK

It has the lowest survival rate of all common cancers

24% 1 year survival

7% 5 year survival

1% 10 year survival

When surveyed only 1 in 3 people could name a symptom of pancreatic cancer

Mark Ormrod MBE, Royal Marine Veteran, Tripe Amputee & Invictus Gold Medalist

In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Mark Ormrod MBE, a Royal Marines veteran, who became a triple amputee when an improvised explosive device exploded while he was on foot patrol. Despite that, he recovered to the point where he now leads a full and active life and is a true inspiration to so many. Mark competed in 2 Invictus Games, winning 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Today, he is an inspirational speaker, podcaster, property investor and author who has also spent 10 years working in the charity sector.

Mark explains how he managed to fight his way back to fitness after being told by one doctor he would never walk again. He shares some of the many lessons he learned. Including how this experience has shaped his life and enabled him to achieve so much since being injured. Including how it has helped him to succeed in business and his personal life.

VALUABLE RESOURCES

Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series

ABOUT THE GUEST

In the early hours of Christmas Eve 2007, Royal Marines Commando Mark Ormrod was out on a routine foot patrol in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan when he stepped on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device. Thanks to the swift action of the men around him and the intervention of the Medical Emergency Response Team he was airlifted via helicopter to an emergency field hospital in a desperate attempt to try and save his life. An innovative and dangerous procedure carried out onboard a Chinook helicopter en route to the hospital did save his life. He woke up three days later in the UK in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham: Both legs amputated above the knee and his right arm amputated above the elbow. He was the UK’s first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict.

During his recovery the doctors told him that he’d never walk again and that he should prepare himself for the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Now it would have been understandable for Mark to bitterly withdraw in a state of anger and depression and to resign himself to live life on the sidelines. It would have been easy for him to cash in his disability pension and whittle away the days, forever regretting the decision to join the Marines and to deploy to Afghanistan, but he didn’t. To the contrary he used his set back as a springboard for growth and reinvention.

Today, Mark Ormrod is an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker, a peak performance coach, and the author of the award winning auto-biography Man Down. He is a source of daily inspiration for the thousands of people who follow him on Social Media. He has three children, a beautiful wife and an insatiable lust for life. He is a relentless charitable fund-raiser and a daredevil who has performed stunts that many able bodied athletes would find daunting. He has not used a wheel chair since June 9th 2009 and he jokes about the fact that children call him Iron-Man because of his high-tech prosthetics legs. As well as a peak performance coach he is a mentor and a role model to other amputees and an ambassador for the Royal Marines Association. His sense of humour is only equalled by his sense of wonder, love for learning and love for life.

Mark Ormrod turned his personal tragedy into an on going story of personal success and he is now committed to helping others who may have suffered setbacks or feel they are not yet achieving their maximum potential to take charge of their lives, unleash their personal power and live a life with #NoLimits

Megan Fergusson

So who is Megan Fergusson? I met this remarkable young lady Whilst I was conducting a series of school events for My business within the educational sector. Each year, I work with sporting household names Who visit some of the countries independent and state schools where they give inspirational talks and offer coaching support on the day. During lockdown I had the pleasure to speak to Megan and her father to see how my brand could support her going forward. We had produced a bespoke hockey stick for Megan but during the course of our zoom call this remarkable young lady inspired me to such a degree that I instantly knew she could inspire the thousands of school pupils and Megan became an ambassador for Grays International from that day - Her first school visits were remarkable. she gave presentations not only to prep school, senior school pupils but also left an emotional and lasting impression on all school staff. for 2022, Megan is scheduled to visit numerous schools, Armed Forces and other grassroots sports organisations and clubs sending out her message of positivity, commitment and “if I can do it, you can!“ To all she meets and presents to.

Megan is now 18, and there is nothing she can’t do despite the fact she was born without her left arm from the elbow. To watch her play her sport of hockey to the extreme high level she plays it, puts those of us more fortunate to shame and she has inspired me personally to such a degree in both my business and personal health and fitness regime.

But now Megan‘s independence has hit A stumbling block is Megan wishes like so many young people to be able to drive and take a self to her presentations and sporting events without relying on parents who have supported her from day one so much.

Applications for financial support to the Department for work and pensions to enable Megan to get a vehicle adapted so that she may drive, have all resulted frustratingly with negative results.

Therefore, having inspired me to hit the gym and participate in several challenging events this year, I have decided to do all I can to raise the initial funds required to adapt a vehicle for Megan.

I will be doing a range of physical challenges & adrenaline fulfilling events throughout the year ahead, all of which will be posted and updated on social media.

Whatever you feel you can donate, no matter how small the donation, will be extremely appreciated and I cannot thank you enough for any and all support you can give to this extremely worthwhile cause for this remarkable young person

Please also take a few moments to watch the below link which hopefully will inspire you to donate as much as it is inspired me to do all I can …..

Thankyou

Andy Giles and Rico Grewal will be running 13 half marathons in 13 days, consecutively! All in aid of Children North East.

  • 4.3 million children are living in poverty in the UK and this is predicted to rise to 5.3 million in 2022
  • The top 12 places in the UK with the highest increase in child poverty are all in the North East
  • 1 in 10 low income workers did not have the choice to work from home during COVID, compared to 50% of high income workers. Impacting health, mental health and increased financial burden such as childcare.

As a result of the above issue in our society, data shows that:

  • One in eight 5-19 year olds have a diagnosable mental health condition
  • 75% of all mental health problems in adults (excluding dementia) begin before the age of 18 and 50% before the age of 14
  • A survey of 1000 secondary school pupils showed that 50% reported that they had tried to cope with these negative feelings alone, and a third said they would not discuss their emotions with a teacher.

With your support, we can help babies, children and young people grow up healthy and happy by donating to this amazing charity.

Hello everyone!

I’m Nathesh Nanthakumar. I love playing football and cricket. As it’s my birthday month so I have decided to celebrate my birthday a little bit different than before.

“Sport has the power to change the world," Nelson Mandela said.

Keeping this quote in mind, I’m taking a little step on my birthday month to change someone’s life who is same/similar age to mine to hold and play with a proper bat, ball, shoes, gloves to play cricket and make their dreams come true. Therefore I have decided to do a charity run/walk for 50km in September to raise some money to support two rural schools in Srilanka (North and South) who are less able to prosper and persuade their dreams, abilities and talents due to inadequate equipments. I would like to support these two schools through @Ceylon Cricket Foundation where I began my cricket journey.

I will be so grateful if my family and friends could donate as little as you can to make their dreams come true. Thank you so much for all your support 🏏❤️🙏

Derian House is a fantastic place, which gives support, help and respite to children and young people who have life-limiting or life threatening conditions.  This includes my brother Joseph, who passed away just before his third birthday, but who enjoyed many wonderful times in Derian's loving environment.

Derian House costs approximately £5 million per year to run, but relies on fundraising for 88% of this amount, which has been extremely difficult during Covid.

So... as someone who goes busking most weekends, I thought it would be quite a challenge spending my summer holidays aiming to busk in every single city in England (all 51 of them!) in just 22 days!  I know it's going to be tough, tiring and a bit terrifying but I'm hoping for lovely weather and as much support as possible as I go from Preston to Plymouth, Salisbury to Sunderland, Wolverhampton to Wakefield via Wells & Worcester, and pay a visit to Winchester, Chichester and... Chester!  Busking For Derian is definitely a challenge worth facing!

Please pop along to any of the cities on the tour - it'd be lovely to see some friendly faces singing along!!!

#SupportTheCause https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/24hrknitathon The charity https://www.mind.org.uk/We all know the impact that the last 18 months has had on a lot of our mental states, well if you or someone you know has experienced poor mental health recently or ever, I’d like you to join me through That Crafty Stitch in raising money for Mind, the mental health charity - who are here to make sure anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support.

On Thursday 16th September, from 10am I will be knitting for 24 hours straight (toilet and tea breaks are thankfully allowed!) this will be covered on my Instagram Live where you can find me here: www.instagram.com/that_craftystitch so you know I’m not cheating!

I, like so many have experienced difficulties with my mental health from time to time, particularly a period of depression, which thankfully I am past now. A large part of getting past that was finding my passion for crafting again and in particular knitting. I didn’t know before, but knitting has so many positive mental health benefits. It not only keeps your hands busy and away from your phone, but it helps create serotonin! The rhythmic actions in knitting actually help to release the neurotransmitter serotonin in our brains, this is the hormone that stabilises our mood, creates feelings of well-being and happiness, it also helps with sleep, eating and good digestion. Plus at the end of your knitting sesh you’ll have something gorgeous to look at or wear!

So please join me in raising money for this wonderful cause, either through this go fund me, or through instagram donations on my instagram live.

Thanks

Sam

The JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rodneys-ride-for-roadpeaceThe cause http://www.roadpeace.org/
I cycled about 1800 km (1100miles) to represent how many people loose their lives each year on the roads in the UK - one person per kilometre for the entire length of the country!

As a roads policing officer I’ve attended hundreds of serious collisions on the road network in London and have seen first-hand the impact that these incidents have on those involved.

I’ve seen the shock and devastation caused to families and communities caused by the sudden and traumatic death of their loved one or the effect on a person when they receive a life-changing injury. But I’ve also seen the grit and determination of those involved to get on with life after these incidents.

Roadpeace is a superb charity that supports the victims and families and I’m asking you to show that you care too. Each day 5 people lose their lives and 60 receive life-changing injuries and I’m taking on the challenge of cycling from Land’s End to John O’ Groats via London, beginning on 8th September.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Thank you for visiting this page.

It's a big year for fundraising for me and for Headway Jersey, following the devastation loss to the charity of £150,000 due to Covid-19.

My Guinness World Record attempt to run the fastest marathon dressed as a brain at The London Marathon on Sunday October 3rd will hopefully help Headway raise essential funds to continue to provides essential support, services and information to people in Jersey who are affected by brain injury. I am also running in memory of my brother Vaughan and father Malcolm who both suffered brain injuries.

There are over 150 survivors of brain injury registered with Headway as members who have suffered from Stroke, Brain Tumour, Aneurysm and Accidents amongst many other causes with some requiring occasional support, however, up to 70 members access their services on a weekly basis. These services are an essential lifeline to the members and also provide support and respite to families and carers who need it most.

Story
To celebrate South London Refugee Association’s 30th anniversary Celestine Agbo will run an incredible 262 miles over 10 days - a full marathon each and every day starting on Saturday 4th September.

At the tender age of 62, Celestine, who has completed the London Marathon 20 times, will pound the streets of South London in what will be his most audacious endeavour ever - aiming to raise much needed funds for the charity's work with refugees.

Celestine knows the challenges faced by those who flee their home country more than most. As a child he spent years in the refugee camps of Biafra. Celestine’s novel, “Dragonflies and Matchsticks’ tells the story of his childhood experience and his mother's desperate journey to save her children. Celestine has been running SLRA’s emergency foodbank throughout the Covid crisis and hopes that his gruelling run will raise money for SLRA to support refugees who are already in South London as well as those who will arrive in the coming months.

SLRA works with more than 1000 refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants each year – helping them to overcome past trauma and build safe lives. SLRA’s work will be needed more than ever in the coming months as people make dangerous journeys from Afghanistan to find safety in the UK.

Celestine says ‘ I’m calling this charity run ‘A Run of Gratitude’ because of what SLRA does for thousands of men, women and children who are helped to live healthy and peaceful lives in this wonderful city.”

UPDATE - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - But please keep donating as we need more

Day1 - 145.21 km
Day2 - 154.65 km
Day3 - 168.09 km
Day4 - 144.67 km
Day5 - 142.50 km
Day6 - 123.99 km
Day7 - 122.66 km
TOTAL -> 1001.77 km

Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my page.
My name is Shiv, I’m 16 years old and this summer I am challenging myself and raising money for the British Heart Foundation. As of now, heart and circulatory diseases are responsible for 1 in every 4 deaths in the UK and, according to the WHO, ischaemic heart disease (heart problems caused by narrowed arteries e.g. coronary heart disease) is both the single leading cause of death worldwide but also the cause of death that has seen the greatest increase from 2000 to 2019. These truly are shocking statistics which demonstrate the scale of the problem.
However I know personally that these are so much more than statistics and each death is so much more than just another number for the tally as, having lost both of my grandfathers to heart attacks, I was robbed of the opportunity to cultivate the relationship with my grandparents that so many children cherish throughout their lives and witnessed first hand the void the deaths left in both sides of my family. As a result, supporting the British Heart Foundation means a lot to me because they fund research in all areas of heart and circulatory diseases, finding new treatments/ cures and saving Iives. I want to do all that I can to ensure that other people do not suffer the same heartbreak.
To this end, I am taking up the challenge of cycling 1000 km in one week to raise as much money as possible. Even though I am a keen cyclist, this will be quite the physical challenge as it equates to riding roughly 144 km per day for 7 consecutive days and I will be riding outdoors (not on an indoor trainer) in Richmond Park/ SW London/ Surrey so will be at the mercy of any wind/ weather conditions and hills that come my way...

Story The charity : Alzheimer Scotland - JustGiving

Christina's goal was to cycle 839 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats in under 52hrs 45mins.

This time is the fastest journey from Land's End to John-O'-Groats by bicycle (female) official Guinness World Records (GWR) & Road Records Association (RRA) set in 2002 by Lynne Taylor (Biddulph).

In doing this record attempt, I am also raising money in memory of my mother Elizabeth Mackenzie (Betty Bruce) who sadly passed away in July 2014 whilst diagnosed with Vascular Dementia.

Alzheimer Scotland (Western Isles) provides advice and support for people with a diagnosis of Dementia and their carers/families in the Western Isles area.

Flight Against Alzheimer's
I am flying the length of the UK via paramotor for Alzheimer's Research UK because vital research for this disease is so important

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/flightagainstalzheimers

Daniel's Story
I've always wondered what my grandparents would have been like if I'd have had the chance to know them as an adult. What conversations would we have had? What memories would they have shared? What new memories would we have made together? All that should have been possible but regrettably, both my dad’s parents endured a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

I recently learned one out of three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime unless life changing treatments are found. How terrifying is that?!

Now more than ever, organisations like Alzheimer’s Research UK need our support. Covid has caused a huge drop in funding opportunities and resulted in groundbreaking projects being delayed or cancelled. Having had first hand experience with how devastating and ruthless Alzheimer’s and dementia is I want to make a difference and I need your help.

I’ll be attempting to fly the full length of the UK from John O’Groats to Land’s End on a paramotor. At over 800+ miles and travelling an average of 30mph it’s expected to take around 27 hours of flight time, spread over a week period. Most paramotor pilots average 30 hours flight time in a full year of flying. It’s going to be tough fighting weather conditions, terrain changes, and with the mental and physical challenge of flying up to 6 hours a day from sunrise to sunset.

Please help make a difference by donating to this Flight Against Alzheimer’s, any contribution will help change lives.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

Last year I did the 'virtual' marathon for Shelter, this year I'm running again but its the London marathon proper and I would really appreciate any support you can give me in hitting my fundraising target.

Shelter do fantastic work every year for people who find themselves in severely unfortunate circumstances - either in bad housing or without a roof over their heads. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/PaulandHarleyLearn more about the charity : https://www.pth.org.uk/ The StoryMum passed away earlier this year, following a long battle with cancer and a stroke that she wasn’t able to recover from.

She was initially admitted to hospital, where due to the COVID restrictions, we were unable to visit and be with her. She was proud of her independence and despite her battles, wanted to maintain her dignity even in her final days. She wanted to be moved to the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice for her final days so that we could spend time with her.

The hospice is an independent organisation, heavily reliant on fundraising, with 80% of their costs being covered through fundraising and donations, equivalent to £20,000 per day to provide their services both in the community and at the hospice.

The team at Phyllis Tuckwell, who had provided her with support at home in the prior months, were now caring for her full time. They are the most amazing group of people who allowed my Mum to die with dignity, free of pain, and importantly provided us as a family the opportunity to be with Mum in her final days and hours.

Harley, my 16 year old son, and I therefore want to give back to this amazing organisation. We want to ensure that other families who face the same grief and challenges that we’ve been through are able to benefit from the services of Phyllis Tuckwell should they too find themselves in the situation we were in.

So we we’re going to abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. I described Mum in her eulogy as a character, fiercely independent, brave and generous. We therefore think that deciding to abseil down a building that is over 110 metres high is a fitting way to raise funds for Phyllis Tuckwell.

Any donation large or small is welcome, and we know that for many money is tight, so even a like or share of our page is valuable to us.

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/anne-troth

Anne & Sean are both running this year London Marathon on 3rd October for their local Hospice, Sue Ryder Manorlands in Oxenhope.

Manorlands desperately needs our support in the current climate. With fundraising events cancelled this year and no income from their shops coming in they need our help. £21can fund an hour of expert care for someone facing their most difficult time. £60 can fund a session of bereavement counselling, helping someone begin to process their loss and not feel so alone.

Over the coming months I’ll be doing some fundraising for them. There will be raffles and cakes for sale in the salon as well as trying to challenge myself in the Marathon.... yes even for running!! So I’m hoping you will support me over the coming months and donate as much as you can to this very worthy cause.

Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, the loss of a loved one or a neurological condition – they’re there when it matters. Their doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.

Find out about the charity https://keepingabreast.org.uk/

Running a marathon has never been on my bucket list - always happy to sponsor others to run but I hadn't actually thought to get properly fit and run myself.

Until the lovely ladies at Keeping Abreast encouraged me back in February to join their merry band of 10 runners. And as I have supported their wonderful charity for more than 12 years, how could I decline.

So here I am, 60+, getting fitter and ready to run (jog) the 26.2 miles along Marriotts Way from Aylsham to Norwich on October 3rd.

Your sponsorship & support is genuinely appreciated and all monies I raise will mean that more women, and their families, can be supported after their breast cancer surgery by the many KA groups around the UK.

A sincere thank-you for your support. I will finish the run! (sometime on October 3rd)

PS - the first £1,000 raised is match-funded, so get me to £1,000 and I can double it to £2,000 immediately.

Paul's Story - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paul-taylor233
In memory of my dear friend Alexis Leventis I will be riding a 49cc moped on a epic journey of around 1800 miles (2900km) through some of the UK`s silliest and rudest named places.

The expedition will take place in August 2021 and starts in Shitterton in Dorset on the 18th and winds its way through salubriously named places such as Happy Bottom Nature Reserve, Ass Hill, Crazies Hill, Pishill, The Knob, Titty-Ho, Willey, Butthole Lane, Pensitone, Netherthong, Slack Bottom Road, Bedlam, Crackpot (I think I may have lived there in a past life) , Booze (there too), Pity Me (by this point you really should), Cocksburnspath, Wallyford, Brawl (and many others) before we arrive at the charmingly titled Twatt in the Orkney Isles.

The return journey includes delights such as Dull, Cockermouth and Cow Ark before our final destination , the aptly named Bell End. Unfortunately it`s not possible to show the full map on this page but but If you have google maps you can see all of the 46 absurd destinations by copying and pasting this address into your web browser:

https://www.google.com/maps/placelists/list/BGF1KgwQtPEFW8NXyRviBTK7-e36aw

You can also follow Instagram page moronicmopedmarathon.

All proceeds go to The Institute of Cancer Research, who together with their hospital partner The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust are rated as one of the most important cancer research and treatment centres in the world.

My friend Alexis was the kindest, most generous and level headed person I have ever known, and was a well known and respected Classic Car restorer. He was also the bravest person I've ever met.

I was sick of cancer taking the lives of so many wonderful people and felt I had to do something to help beat this awful disease. I thought this trip was a suitably ridiculous place to start and as Alexis was a motorcyclist as well as a car nut; two wheels was not only appropriate but made it more of a adventure! I talked about my plans for this trip with him and he thought it was funny and a bit mad, I think he would be surprised I was actually daft enough to go through with it!

Aside from the kind help of Adam at Oxon Autos (who cleaned out my carburettor for free) and the lads at Merityres Wantage (who refused payment for tyre fitting), the moped, all its maintenance and parts, camping equipment, and all costs are being paid for out of my own pocket and all funds raised go directly to the ICR - paid into their Bank account by Just Giving.

One in two people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Thanks to research by institutions like the ICR treatments and survival rates are improving, but there are still more than 450 people dying from cancer every day in the UK. So, this is for Alexis and everyone who has lost loved ones or whose lives have been affected by Cancer. Let`s help the ICR achieve their vision of a world where people can live their lives free of cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Please donate what you can spare ,I have set my fundraiser target low (about £1 per mile) and really hope to smash it! Every penny helps save lives, improve cancer treatment and helps to get rid of this evil bell-end that is cancer!

Chris' story https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/johnsoc1

In December 2019 I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a rare type of tumour called GIST in my small bowel. The tumour was surgically removed in January 2020 but I later discovered that the cancer had already spread to my liver, and is unfortunately incurable.

I’m currently receiving treatment which aims to slow the growth and spread of the cancer, so for now I'm feeling fit and active - and hopefully I will get to spend a few more years with my family.

I wanted to do something positive after what has been a tough couple of years. As this might be the last year I’m able to participate I decided to take on the London Marathon and the Great North Run, and am delighted to have joined the 'Children With Cancer UK' team, raising much needed funds for this amazing cause. As well as the runs, I have climbed Scafell Pike and will be tackling other challenges along the way.

I obviously know how hard cancer can be as a patient, and I know how hard it is on family and friends, but I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to be going through this as a child, so I want to do anything I can to help improve the lives of children and their families affected by cancer.

The London Marathon is a real bucket list event for me, and for anyone who has ran the Great North Run before - it's an experience like no other.

It’s been nearly five years since I last ran in an organised event, on top of which I’ve put on a few extra pounds since initial treatment last year, so I’ve got my work cut out getting ready for the event.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations. If you want to follow my journey, I will be keeping this page updated and I’m on Twitter and Instagram at @gotthegistofit

Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Tasha's Royal Parks Half Marathon, our #FundraisingFriday Fundraiser of the Week
Fundraising for Farm Africa

Tasha's Story : visit her JustGiving page here TODAY

Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page!  I am taking on the challenge to run half a marathon to support the wonderful charity Farm Africa.

I came across this charity via an exhibition along the River Thames while running one day and was instantly smitten by the photos and the cause.

Covid-19 is a global issue that has affected the livelihoods of many. Farmers in eastern Africa are currently facing a double crisis, not only with the coronavirus pandemic but also the desert locust invasion, which is set to worsen the already dire food security situation in the greater Horn of Africa. Please help me raise invaluable funds to help families and farmers less fortunate than us, and ensure that they have the prosperous and sustainable future that they truly deserve.  You can find out more about Farm Africa's work and latest developments by visiting www.farmafrica.org

Thank you so much!

The back story

After thinking she'd never make 40, Jackie Scully is determined to turn her big birthday into a big opportunity to raise money and awareness for four amazing charities.

So, on her actual birthday, 4th December, she and a team of 24 other challengers will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest static cycling class in the world. The record stands at 28 hours. They are going for 29.

And if that's not enough, the 40 days leading up to the big attempt are going to be a mass fundraiser where Jackie is encouraging as many people as possible to join her by contributing their exercise KMs (be that running, cycling or swimming) to a 40,000KM goal, which is one turn round the world.

40 days, 40,000KMs and £40,000 for the incredible child exercise and mental health charity Mintridge, breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!, Mind and NHS Charities Together.

Why? Because 40 is a birthday she never thought she'd see, after being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 32. And, attempting huge endurance challenges makes her feel alive, particularly after having her hip rebuilt in her 20s.

Thank you for supporting this party with a purpose. Your money will genuinely change lives for the better.

Meet the team

This event is a chance for 25 challengers to attempt the impossible as a way of working out what really is possible. More than a birthday party, this is a massive team challenge and each individual has their own brilliant and inspiring journey.

Let's meet some of them...

In February Oscar was diagnosed with Batten Disease, a horrific degenerative neurological condition.

Over the last 12 months this disease has taken Oscar's sight, he has developed epilepsy and his motor skills are failing.

BeMoreOscar has been sharing his story to help others and spread awareness.

They are doing the '100 miles in your shoes challenge' to raise funds for a hydrotherapy bath for Acorns Children's Hospice who have supported the family.

Over 3 days, between 26th August through to 28th August they walked 100 miles non-stop from Oscar's home ending at Birmingham Children's Hospital, with some of the party being blindfolded.

They are doing this so they can see what it's like to walk in Oscars shoes. Walking continuously means they will deal with sleep deprivation and fatigue so will represent the mental aspect of Oscars disease and blindfold will mirror his blindness.

We are a UK charity made up of people living with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and their parents and carers who joined hands to improve the diagnostics, standard of care, social support, and access to treatments in this severe genetic disorder.
Visit the website:
HERE

DiagnosticsWe support the efforts to speed up diagnostics and introduce treatment as early as possible. Early introduction of pharmacological therapies offers the highest chance of preventing the disease manifesting itself. We support the introduction of routine newborn screening for SMA as well as wide availability of carrier screening.

Standard of careTreatSMA aims that hospitals across the country are able to offer the highest standard of medical care to those with SMA. We promote the Standard of Care document and protocols, so as to reduce the risk of severe complications of spinal muscular atrophy and improve the quality of life.

Access to treatmentsEveryone with SMA has a right to treatment. We work to ensure that people with all types of the SMA get the opportunity to access effective treatments. We co-operate with all other stakeholders in the UK SMA community in order to bring about broad access to Spinraza (nusinersen), the first approved treatment for SMA, and all future therapies.

Social supportWe advocate that those affected by SMA receive an appropriate level of social support, including access to physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, supportive tools and equipment – everything that reduces the burden of SMA and makes life with this severe disease more bearable.

How we workWe do not believe that sitting back and waiting or hoping for the government to provide us with everything will get it to our children or ourselves. Our campaigns highlight the devastating effects that spinal muscular atrophy has on those affected by the disease and shows how the treatment and support can improve their quality of life. For many, it is literally the difference between life and death.

Most of all, we encourage people with SMA, their friends and families to work together and fight together. For the first time ever we have hope! Without everyone getting on board our voices might be lost and the effects of that could be devastating!

For many, it is literally the difference between life and death.

Most of all, we encourage people with SMA, their friends and families to work together and fight together. For the first time ever we have hope! Without everyone getting on board our voices might be lost and the effects of that could be devastating!

Stuart's Story

I am joining two friends – Matt Theedom and Scott Chappell – on a gruelling cycle challenge from John O’Groats to Lands End in July to raise money for two charities very close to my heart: Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Chance to Shine. I will also be celebrating my 50th birthday in July; an unthinkable milestone when I was born in 1971 with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Over the past 50 years I have benefitted from amazing medical research and discoveries, excellent health care from the NHS (massive thanks to the CF Team at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital) and supportive family and friends. I have experienced first-hand how new drugs and treatments can transform people’s lives.

I have also seen the impact of poor health and the daily struggle that accompanies it. Two years ago, my older sister Jo, who also had CF, passed away shortly after her 50th birthday after a career in teaching and ultimately an unsuccessful lung transplant. Jo was a kind, loving and inspirational sister and friend. As a family we were devastated by her death, which felt untimely so soon after the transplant she had waited so long for. It is the way in which she led her life with such passion and vigour that has driven me to take this challenge in my 50th year.

I have two younger brothers, one of whom also lives with CF. For many years it felt like research and treatment regimes were aimed purely at preventing deterioration and supporting compromised daily living. But science has since advanced to the stage where funded research can and does make a life changing and life affirming difference. Both my brother and I have been able to start families of our own thanks to scientific advances, again something we never thought would be possible.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-limiting genetic condition affecting more than 10,000 people across the UK. It affects the lungs and digestive system and can cause chronic infections and reduced lung function. Currently, half of those with CF will not live past age 41. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is fighting for a brighter future for people with CF and their families by funding cutting-edge research, driving up standards of care and supporting people with the condition and their loved ones every step of the way.

Chance to Shine is a national charity on a mission to spread the power of cricket throughout schools and communities. The charity takes cricket to new places and uses it to ignite new passions, teach vital skills, unite diverse groups, and educate young people from Cornwall to County Durham.

Since 2005, Chance to Shine has given over 5 million boys and girls in more than 10,000 state schools and community projects, the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket, improving their personal, social and mental well-being.

Since March 2021, 73 students from Music Education Islington music centres have been writing, performing and creating their own song, in response to Sir David Attenborough's New Year's message on climate change and their determination to help save the planet.

The song, called Seasons Change, will be available to watch from Wednesday 7 July at 6.15pm. Click here.

The students, with the help of their teacher Fliss Gorst, have written lyrics inspired by Attenborough’s speech, as well as their own orchestral and choral compositions and rapping and singing, which can be heard on the track. All recordings were made by the children from home, using a series of audio cues, and they also sent in artwork inspired by their feelings around climate change, used to form the music video.

With thanks to Fliss Gorst (Seasons Change Project Lead) and Spencer Down (MEI Creative Director) for making this happen and to Sir David Attenborough, for taking the time to reply to two of the students letters.

About Music Education Islington

Information from World Land Trust

By donating to World Land Trust’s Action Fund, we are able to act quickly, whenever and wherever urgent conservation action is needed. From unexpected urgency for land purchase to extend and safeguard existing reserves, fighting forest fires or ensuring that reserves are well protected by experienced rangers, we can turnaround the fate of these at risk environments, ensuring their security and wellbeing for the future.

There is no doubt that the natural world is changing. Every day, rising human demands continue to cause climate changes, habitat degradation and force an increasing number of species towards extinction. Fortunately, more and more of us are recognizing that the destruction of habitats and species is untenable. When we lose any part of the natural world, we disrupt not only the forests and species that dwell within them, but the communities that live within and depend upon them too.

The Action Fund demonstrates the possibility and positivity of taking pre-emptive steps to protect these precious wildernesses, for nature, for us and for the future.

Hear Melinda's Story and support her fundraising for two great charities!

https://www.dementiaconcern.co.uk/
https://www.dementiauk.org/

My story

I have a rather crazy “Summer of the runner” event schedule, running in two big trail events this summer and finishing with the London Marathon!

Why am I doing this? Well, it's partly a challenge I set myself after fracturing three sacral vertebrae last year, but it's also about encouraging women to address female under-representation in endurance sports, so I'm here to prove that busy working mothers can still make time for their own hobbies and passions.

90% of donations will go to Dementia Concern, an Ealing charity providing care for those suffering from dementia and much needed support for their carers. The COVID pandemic has hit small, local charities so hard, so please give what you can.

The remaining 10% will go to the Dementia UK charity to support a nationwide effort.

My event schedule:

19th June - Race to the King (86km trail ultramarathon along the South Downs Way to Winchester, 1,800m elevation)

7th August - Round the Rock (trail half marathon with my husband, Arnaud Marchal, covering the coastal trails and cliffs round a portion of the Island of Jersey)

3rd October - London Marathon (yes, amazingly I got a real-life in-person place!)

Follow my escapades on Instagram @wmUltrarunner

www.Instagram.com/wmUltrarunner

Journeying from broken back to ultra and posting some running training tips & motivation along the way!

Look who made the local news: https://www.ealingtimes.co.uk/news/19377971.ealing-mum-broke-back-prepares-first-ultra-marathon/

Feel free to sponsor on a ‘per event’ basis or just as a one-off for this important charity that is struggling to continue in these current times.

Support the fundraising : https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/spennylympics

Stuart and Charlotte will be completing every single Olympic event during the 17 days of 2021 that the Tokyo Olympics are being held. This includes 96 events, from running a marathon, cycling the 234km road race, swimming 10km, to performing a synchronised swimming routine, jumping off the 10m diving board, surfing, pole vaulting, boxing, and many, many more!!

Stuart’s much loved brother Spencer, known to all as Spenny, bravely passed away in August 2011 whilst still in his 40s from motor neurone disease. He left behind his two young sons Samuel and Isaac, who he loved unconditionally.

Spenny held a special place in the hearts of all who knew him, and this was reflected by having more than 750 people attend his funeral. He was many things to many people, a well-known and talented musician, a keen footballer, a loyal and trusted friend and always the party starter! Whilst living with this terrible disease, Spenny worked tirelessly to raise as much awareness of and money for the motor neurone disease association as possible.

Stuart has always wanted to mark this 10-year anniversary and celebrate Spenny’s life in a fitting way and that was the seed that grew into Spennylympics and with his partner Charlotte he has found someone determined and crazy enough to bring this idea to life. They are under no illusions as to just how difficult this challenge will be, in fact it has been described by some as impossible which has only fuelled their determination to succeed even more!

The work that MNDA are doing is more vital than ever as every day there are more people just like Spencer who are diagnosed with this terrible disease and more families like his who are losing a father or a mother, a husband or a wife, a brother or a sister, a son or a daughter. We hope that by sharing Spencer’s story with you and undertaking this massive challenge that we can inspire you to give generously to this most necessary of causes.

Thank you for your support,

Stuart and Charlotte

A little bit of history of
Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care

**From Brian Burnie, the Founder.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT – it goes back to my early childhood in the 1940’s/50’s coming from a humble background in the east end of Newcastle upon Tyne.**

As a child I always remember my mother and father saying that it was “BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE”. Some 70 years later that’s still very true today, albeit not in monetary terms, but it never ceases to amaze me how much one gets out of charitable work.

Having been involved in a whole host of charitable good causes since the 1960’s, it was in the late 1980’s that I decided to formalise this and the charity was established. This enabled the companies I owned to fund the work of the charity. Probably the most notable project undertaken was to pay for a doctor at the Freeman Hospital’s Children’s Heart Unit.

In 2010 the proceeds of the sale of Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa were given to the charity and the Memorandums and Articles of Association were changed to that of only being involved in the transportation of cancer patients and renamed Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care.

The charity was initially established in an office in Newcastle city centre; later in September 2012 it purchased the freehold interest of an office in Gosforth (with ample parking for ambulances), which was later named ‘Daft as a Brush House’.

To date the charity has a fleet of 32 ambulances, all have been adopted by primary schools from across the region. Over 450 volunteers are employed as ambulance drivers/companions; staffing the information desk at the Freeman Hospital and at Daft as a Brush House. However, the charity still requires more volunteers so why not apply on-line or download an application form.

The Charity today…

The charity, Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care, provides a free transport service to and from the Freeman/RVI Hospitals for outpatients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment – some from as far afield as the Scottish Borders, North Yorkshire and West Cumbria.

In 2020 some 60,000 cancer patient journeys were only made possible by the dedication and service of the magnificent team of volunteers and staff from the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.

A recent new development with the Great North Children’s Hospital based at the RVI was the purchase of an ambulance with special seating arrangements permitting children of all ages, plus their parents, to be transported safely to and from hospital.

Some patients require a more tailored transport service; some need palliative care, others have illnesses at more developed stages that require greater attentiveness, our ‘Fast Track’ service is here to help.

Looking forward to the future!

Hopefully, over the next year or so, by using the concept of early integration of proposed planned treatment and transportation of patients, this would be a huge step forward and when implemented could enable the charity to double the amount of patient journeys, all to the benefit of both the patients and the NHS.

Using a line from Reverend Martin Luther King’s speech “I HAVE A DREAM TODAY” – in the not too distant future this charity will be involved in 100,000 cancer patient journeys a year.

JustGiving page here!

Here is our #FundraisingFriday fundraiser of the week Alisdair! Here is his story -

My partner, Ruth Staines, passed away on April 3rd 2021, after a short but defiant battle with Motor Neuron Disease. In her memory, I'm cycling 2,750km from Dublin to Nerja, Spain to raise vital funds for the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association.

When Ruth was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease roughly a year ago, in May 2020, nobody could have foreseen how fast the disease would affect Ruth's independence. MND/ALS is a neurological disease that impacts the nerves which enable movement of muscles. It presents challenges to completing some of life's most simple tasks that you might do every day with your hands, feet, legs etc. For Ruth, it began to affect her legs first, but as it progressed it prevented her from being able to even send a private text message or play her beloved Candy Crush, simple things we all take for granted.

The Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association provides care and support to people with MND, their families, friends and carers. Without them, we would have been lost. The support they provided to Ruth throughout her illness allowed her to live a much more comfortable life. From mobility and wheelchairs, nursing, homecare support, counselling - these were all critical services we depended on.

My aim is to cycle from Dublin, Ireland all the way to Nerja, Spain. This will be a 2,750km journey, and I'll be doing it solo (unless anyone wants to join along the way!). I'll explain a little below as to why this journey will be a special one.

Ruthie loved to travel and lived in many places from England, Italy, Portugal and even Los Angeles. I remember Ruth telling me a story about when she gate crashed Michael Jacksons funeral, while pretending to be a journalist from Ireland. But when Ruth moved to Nerja, Spain there was something about the place that made her settle. Nerja is where I first met Ruth. I worked in a local bar and Ruth quickly became a regular. I remember I offered to walk her home maybe the first night we met. I must have seemed dodgy because I later found out she lived on the next street! I must have gained her trust though, and within a couple of months we were living together. We both had a passion for dogs and through a local charity we started fostering abandoned puppies. Ruthie always looked fondly on her time in Nerja and it really was a special place for her. She made so many close friends, her second home you could say and even when she moved back to Dublin she always kept up to date with all the gossip.

The 2,750km journey will start in Oxmantown Road on the Friday 14th May, where Ruth has lived since her return to Dublin. I'll head straight down to Baltinglass for the first leg spend the day with Ruths family before setting off for Europe. On Sunday morning, I will travel to Wexford, with Mark (Ruths brother) and Kev (Ruths close friend) kindly accompanying me for this part of the journey. Then it's the ferry to Wales, cycle down through southern England, followed by another ferry across to northern France. I'll travel down past Bordeaux and through (or over!) the Pyrenees. Then I'll head straight for the Spanish East coast, where hopefully the fresh sea air will keep me cool! Eventually, the aim is to end up in Nerja on the southeast coast of Spain around mid July...fingers crossed!

I'm asking that you all dig deep in your pockets to donate for this amazing cause. All donations go straight to the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association. I'll keep updating the page and you'll even be able to track me live so I can't cheat.

Thanks :)

This year I am running London Landmarks Half Marathon and have a place in the London Marathon as well as the Brighton Marathon and Berlin Marathon so I will be taking on these 3 marathons within 4 weeks and then 2 more half marathons, Royal Parks and Oxford the 2 weeks after London.

Why am I doing this, well please read on below:

My son was born with TOF, basically his mouth was not connected to his stomach and he required major surgery at the age of 9 hours old and then continual support through to adult life with many operations along the way.

Thanks to the skill, dedication and support of the Doctors, Nurses and Surgeons at the Royal Alex, Eddie has grown into a happy and healthy young man.

Please help me to say thanks to the hospital by chucking a couple of quid into the pot to support the hospital in the fantastic work that they do for the Children of Sussex.

Fundraising for The Brain Cancer Charity**!

Support here:** https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/johnsmadswim
Inspired by and in memory of his dear younger sister, Emma, who died of a brain tumour in 2003, John is aiming to continuously swim the whole length of Lake Geneva at 42.8 miles in 36 hours, Only 7 people have ever completed what is known as the ultimate ‘trophy swim’ and John will be just the eighth person to do so. More people have actually walked on the moon than have solo swam Lake Geneva. Although this will not be the first time that John has taken on endurance escapades. In 1993 he successfully swam the English Channel on his third attempt and in 2007 John climbed to Everest Base Camp just a year after he had had significant knee surgery.

Training to swim non-stop for 36 hours was severely hampered throughout the pandemic with pools closed and travel to suitable outdoor swimming locations against lockdown rules. John had to be rather inventive with his training methods and took to ingenious methods to continue his training; lying on a raised platform and using rubber tethers to replicate swimming motions with his arms as well as tethering himself to a tree and swimming ‘geo-statically’ in the middle of a deep farm pond (negates frequent switching direction) being one such method!

There is capacity for 80 people on site, with each resident having their own, private accommodation. Services are delivered through a multi-disciplinary team under the leadership of the Director of Care. As the nature of neuro-disability is unique to each individual, so the range and frequency of facilities and services people use will be tailored to their own needs and aspirations.

Some of our residents stay with us only a short time until they move onto different accommodation, for example in an adapted home in the community, whereas for others British Home is a long-term home. For all of our residents, British Home provides a safe, comfortable and suitable therapeutic environment.

Chequered Flag Motorsport is a not for profit Community Interest Company (CIC). That means that we must have a clear mission and objectives that benefit specific areas of the community and any profit we make as a company is used as we have identified to the CIC Regulator and not for the benefit of company directors. I feel that we are unique in that we do not help a single group of individuals effected in a certain way, we are open to all in our efforts to make motorsport widely available.

At the centre of fundraising activities is our very own simulator. We use the simulator at events organised by either ourselves or the various charities that we work with by taking the fun, entertainment, excitement and competition of top class motorsport.

We provide a range of options for anyone wanting to experience motorsport either as a fan or as a participant.

I have made the final of Miss Wales 2021 and as part of my campaign I will be raising money for Beauty With A Purpose. I am going to do this with a Golf Day at Garnant Golf Club on 14th August 2021.

My background: I have been a professional golfer for 6 years. I play and try to inspire others to take part as an Ambassador for the Golf Union of Wales working on ‘New2Golf’ schemes for Ladies, Girls and families to encourage new players.

I host coaching clinics and work with corporate clients and charities such as The Lighthouse Construction Charity, Games Aid and BBC Children In Need; as a professional for European Golf Concierge pro-am and beat the pro events.

I have run TRI-Golf sessions at the Urdd and EID events and sessions at local Youth clubs to encourage participation.

I am a qualified inclusive golf coach, coaching in events for disability sport, blind golf and the Chinese Autistic Society in Swansea. I love this work because It challenges me and my coaching in my adaptabilty with each player, in every session I am learning.

I want to encourage inclusivity and break down any barriers golf and being a female athlete participating in a beauty pageant may have. This work inspires me to never quit and to be grateful and blessed for the opportunities I am given.

Golf offers valuable life skills and prepares you for life encounters that will hopefully get me through my Miss Wales journey, where I want to continue to grow as a person, be an inspiration to other girls and get inspired by the other contestants.

I am also an ambassador for the GlovesAreOn charity, with our recent projects being mental health and body positivity, looking at the #bekind initiative. My big goal is tour school to gain my full LET/LPGA tour cards and to become a presenter and broadcaster, while also continuing my work in the community and with charities as I do believe one small act of kindness always inspire another.

She then immediately transferred to Broadway and played Elphaba at the Gershwin Theater for 6 months, where she won the Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite Female Breakthrough Performance, before returning to London for 6 months in 2009.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare, complex genetic disorder that affects both males and females from birth and throughout their lives. It causes low muscle tone with consequent motor developmental delays, a mild to moderate learning difficulty, incomplete sexual development, and emotional and social immaturity, which can lead to challenging behaviours. During childhood, an overwhelming and insatiable chronic appetite usually develops which, without rigorous food management and exercise regimes, leads to food seeking, stealing and life threatening obesity. PWS occurs randomly in about 1:22,000 births and it is estimated that there are about 2,000 living with PWS in the UK.

Christopher Craddock's Story
I think it's safe to say - 2020 has been pretty memorable for all the wrong reasons.

So I wanted to do something in 2021 that is worth looking back on with a bit of pride and to help some special causes.

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to run 1200 miles in 2021, which means I'll be trying to get through a 100 miles every month.

This is all for two amazing charities.

Sue Ryder's bereavement group were a huge help for my mum when we lost my dad and Alzheimer's UK do incredible things for people like my gran who suffered from dementia.

Charity : www.charitabletravel.org

Our Mission

We are a UK based charity working tirelessly to energise and galvanise the support of the global travel and tourism industry, and the travelling public, to build The Charitable Travel Fund. We work to provide tangible financial aid for communities in worldwide travel destinations that depend on tourism revenue but have little or no government welfare support when that income is threatened or extinguished by events beyond expectation or control. In essence, our support starts when tourism stops.

Why We Help

We have all enjoyed the huge positive impact that travel and tourism create. Whether the restorative value of a holiday away, the chance to broaden our experience of other cultures or landscapes or benefiting from the employment promoting tourism offers. Our entire travel experience depends on these communities. When they need us, we must be there to help.

What happens to them when there is no tourism income, no welfare state, no handouts, when the income stops? We are here for the hotel worker, the airport baggage handler, the tour guide, the taxi and transfer driver, the tourist attraction employee, the restaurant and beach bar waiters, the gift shop server and all the workers in tourism when they need us.

How We Help

The Charitable Travel Fund helps by financially supporting local and international charity non-profit organisations, delivering much needed help on the ground, with thoughtful, impactful, and speedy grants. Charitable Travel helps sustain and empower tourism communities to survive adversity, overcome disadvantage and rebuild to provide robust, sustainable, and environmentally conscious income to return to independence and quality of life. Our focus is on communities in places without the full safety net of a public welfare system.

The Charitable Travel Fund is focused on support for disadvantaged communities in destinations where the local economy depends on tourism income and that is disrupted. We appeal to the public and the travel industry to give back specifically to the destinations and communities who have given so much, when they need us.

“At the Centre we approach dyslexia in a holistic way - helping the person as a whole and not just some of the 'educational' aspects they may want to improve upon - this is very different to other learning environments and it works well. Nothing has enriched my life nor my professional practice as much as the people I work with. It is a privilege to be involved in this work.”

We support dyslexic adults by advising, developing skills and confidence and thus connecting them to further opportunities. We support over 300 people each year.

What makes us different? We provide services to adults at low or subsidised cost so that lack of funds is not a barrier to accessing our services. The people we support are often unemployed, on low income or have missed out on education, so we aim to give them the skills and confidence to find better opportunities at work and in education.

We are a charity and a social enterprise and all our income from our commercial services (assessments, courses, awareness training) is used to help fund our primary purpose: to support adults disadvantaged by dyslexia.

www.unitariansmda.org.uk

The Unitarians are a spiritual community who encourage you to think for yourself. We believe that everyone has the right to seek truth and meaning for themselves, and that the best setting for this is a community that welcomes you for what you are – beliefs, doubts, questions and all!

Throughout our history, Unitarians have stood for inclusivity, reason and social justice. This includes gender equality – we’ve had female ministers for more than 100 years, gay rights – we’ve performed same sex blessings for more than 30 years, and the abolition of slavery.

We support equality of respect and opportunity for everyone, totally opposing oppression and discrimination, including on the grounds of any arbitrary or accidental factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation or religious belief.

Unitarians consider that unless your moral standards are truly your own, then they do not really constitute morality. If they are imposed on you, then they are just a means of social control and nothing more. Of course, a commonly accepted moral framework must exist in any human society but that is not enough if people don’t also have a personal morality.

Unitarian acceptance of the underlying unity and connectedness of humanity is also important in this context; we are all individuals, with a right to our own beliefs, but we are also members of society with a responsibility to help make it work. As such, it is incumbent upon each of us to behave in ways that respect others and make our community and world a better place for everyone.

Max's camp out for North Devon HospiceMax is camping out to raise money for North Devon Hospice because they looked after our lovely friends

Max StoryMy name is Max, I am 11 years old and I am raising money for the North Devon Hospice because they looked after our friend and enabled him to pass peacefully at home with those closest to him which was his final wish. Sadly most of the fundraising is now cancelled or closed due to Covid 19 so they are missing out on vital funds.

I have been camping out since 29th March 2020 and am going to try and do a year (he's now over 460 nights). My friend Rick gave me his tent before he died and made me promise to have an adventure so that’s what I’m doing.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Leadership Through Sport & Business is a social mobility charity that prepares and supports bright young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into meaningful roles with major firms. We make sure those at risk of under-employment find careers equal to their ambition and ability, and can contribute from their first day on the job.

They focus attention on communities where leadership potential is often wasted and they empower young people in the locations that we work to become future business leaders.

The charity address all forms of disadvantage: personal, in terms of adverse life events; socio-economic, in terms of class boundaries or lack of social capital; and practical, in terms of preparation young people need for the working world.

Employers increasingly recognise the importance of recruiting young talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. 90% of our employers find that recruiting through LTSB is an effective way of finding diverse, capable young people for entry-level positions, and 83% of our employers agree that our apprentices have been a positive influence on the workplace

Their candidates are capable of making a valuable contribution to an employer but they are held back by a lack of social capital and life skills. Schools do not adequately prepare them for the world of work, which is why we put so much importance on the pre-work phase of their programme.

Young people in the areas where the charity works need help to overcome a variety of barriers, lack of opportunity and often generations of unemployment. They provide them with a real chance and a helping hand to ignite their spark and to develop into well rounded members of their community and dedicated, hard working employees who can ultimately become leaders, movers and shakers.

Who are Mind?

We're Mind, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We're here for you. Today. Now. Whether you're stressed, depressed or in crisis. We'll listen, give support and advice, and fight your corner.

We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.

Watch this short video to find out more?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPxHTZRwXX8

I'm raising funds to support the important work Mind does and to allow them to continue to be there for everyone who needs them. Please donate if you can.

This is what your donation could do:

£10 could allow us to send essential information booklets about mental health to 40 people.

£40 could pay for 28 people to campaign for change on our behalf.

£70 could keep our online community, Elefriends, open and safe for two hours.

£120 could offer a lifeline to eight people in desperate need of support from our Mind legal line.

£200 could help us keep the Mind Infoline open for 1 hour, helping 35 people.

£300 could support a young person bereaved by suicide to access 1:1 and group support.

£550 could provide five people struggling with their mental health a place in a 10-week wellbeing group with team sports and cookery.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for donating. Your support is hugely appreciated.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Mind.

Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Raising money for MIND!

On the 15th of December 2020, I was in the car with my Dad on the way to Football training. The Cantilever Bridge, which sits above the home of Warrington Town Football club was completely empty apart from one other car in the pure dark; the car was right in front and suddenly slammed the brakes on alarming my Dad and I as a lady rushed out leaving her car door wide open on the middle of the bridge as she urgently sprinted towards the ledge on the bridge. My Dad and I looked at each other utterly confused and worried as we slowly got out the car as we saw the lady holding onto a man over the other side dressed in black from head to toe. He was clearly ready to jump. I remember seeing his arms spread out on the iron of the bridge and the only thing separating this man from ending his whole life was the firm grip of the hero of a woman that wrapped her arms around him and softly spoke to him whilst my Dad called the emergency services. To be fully honest, as a 15 year old boy I was stood there on the bridge watching the events with tears in my eyes desperately trying to fight them back knowing that the man has been able to get to the point where he felt so alone that he couldn't speak to anyone and he felt as if his life wasn't worth living. I held up the traffic so that he wasn't disturbed and put on edge but the lady who saw the man in the first place and spoke him down saved a life that night and it's something that still sticks with me deep in my mind every minute of every hour and that inspired my friends and I to spread the message to let others know that help is everywhere you look, sometimes you just need to talk it out with someone which is often the difference between life or death.

Had the lady not been there at that exact time circumstances may have been different, that man may have decided to jump into the ship canal beneath him to never been seen again. The man may have had kids waiting for him to get home, it could've been his brother, mother, father or sister who may have not even known the man wasn't going to be home to kiss his kids, dog, girlfriend or wife goodnight that night, or ever again.

My friends and I are going to walk 320 miles from Warrington Town Football Club to the Emirates Stadium in June after our exams, the home of Arsenal football club, over a 13 day period going from football club to football club along the way because recently Claude Callegari suspectedly took his own life at the age of 58 as a lifelong devoted Arsenal fan. It is thought to have been comments through social media that made Claude, a man with a genuine heart of gold, take his own life.

As 4 lads who live and breathe football, the start of the journey seemed right to commence at Cantilever Park-which is 100 metres away from where I witnessed the man trying to take his own life, and to end it at the place that meant so much to Claude who remains in the heart of all football fans.

Sometimes rivalries need to be put aside and we need to check up on others because issues such as mental health and suicide certainly outweigh the abuse and disputes that our beautiful game can lead to.

Vision, mission and values
As an NGO the Danish Refugee Council's (DRC) work is based upon a vision, a mission and five values. Our vision, mission and values guide us in everything we do and stand for.

DRC's VisionA dignified life for all displaced

DRC's MissionWe assist refugees and the displaced, protecting them from harm, safeguarding their legal rights, and empowering them towards a better future

**DRC's values

Humanitarian approach**The right to a dignified life takes precedence over politics and principles. DRC insists on the right of the individual to receive humanitarian aid and on our right and duty to provide such aid, whenever possible, regardless of political circumstance. This means that our advocacy will sometimes be subordinate to our duty to help save lives, and that we will always provide assistance, regardless of whether such an effort could be interpreted politically. Moreover, in all of our interactions we insist on the dignity and autonomous right of the individual to use their abilities in shaping their lives as they see fit.

RespectOur belief in the equal rights of all human beings. DRC takes a rights-based approach to its work. We work to ensure that all displaced persons can enjoy the rights, protections, and opportunities guaranteed to them in applicable conventions and laws, and seek to combat discrimination in all forms. In Denmark and elsewhere, we work to ensure that authorities and the international community fully adhere to their responsibilities towards people in distress, and we assist until these authorities are able to manage their responsibilities independently.

Independence and neutralityDRC works exclusively on the basis of its mandate towards the displaced. DRC focuses on issues concerning refugees and displaced persons, remaining strictly neutral when it comes to party politics. This also means that in conflict settings our humanitarian work is predicated on the principle of independence and neutrality in regard to the conflicting parties.

InclusionDRC wishes to carry out its initiatives in a climate of respect and collaboration with the people we are trying to help, thereby ensuring that they are empowered by the interaction. This means that we ask beneficiaries for their consensual participation in the planning and implementation of interventions, as well as their perspectives in assessing the outcomes. Our collaborations with people in distress ultimately seek to utilize and strengthen their ability to cope without assistance in the future.

Honesty and transparencyDRC is accountable to the people we help, those that support us and those with whom we collaborate. This means that we are honest and open about what we do and about the choices we make, and if a situation may exceed our ability to provide help. We strive for successful and responsible joint efforts with all beneficiaries, donors, partners and others.

Jeremy's Story

https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=TourdeFullEnglish&pageUrl=1

Hello All,

On the 17th May I’ll be setting off on my bike to venture around Britain. With just a tent and a few essential supplies I’ll be in search of the best breakfast in Britain. This will be in aid of two charities: the MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity. Both these charities are very close to my heart. In September 2018 my Dad, Giles, passed away of a brain tumour and in May 2019 my Mum, Clare, passed away of Motor Neurone Disease. Both are horrific diseases and we desperately need to find new treatments. No one should have to suffer like my parents did.

The Charities and What They Do:

Motor Neurone Disease is a rare condition which progressively and often aggressively leads to the weakening of muscles. In my Mum’s case, the disease meant that she was unable to walk, move her arms, hold her head up unassisted, eat or drink though her mouth or even speak. The MND Association provide care and support for those living with MND. This could include providing equipment which aids mobility, communication aids (often controlled with eyes) or funding for non paid carers. As there is currently no known cure, the MND Association also funds and promotes research into new ways of treating MND.

Brain tumours are more common than MND but also have very low survival rates. Currently only around 15 out of every 100 people with a cancerous brain tumour will survive for 10 years or more after being diagnosed. For my Dad, who had a Glioblastoma tumour, the symptoms consisted of progressive weakness on one side of the body, seizures, headaches, sickness as well as mental and behavioural changes. The Brain Tumour Charity aim, in the short term, to double survival by 2025 and, in the long term, defeat brain tumours once and for all.

The challenge:

With travel a little disrupted due to the pandemic and uni starting in September I’ve found myself with a couple of months free. I want to put this time to good use, therefore, with a bike at my disposal I felt one of life’s most important questions needed answering: Where can one find Britain’s best breakfast?

On the 17th May with a bike, a tent and a couple of supplies, I’ll be venturing off in search of the best breakfast in Britain. I plan to be on the road for 7 weeks and I’m not entirely sure how far I’ll go. To begin I’ll set off along the South Coast as far as Southampton, then cut up towards Bristol. After that I’ll head around the entire Welsh Coast then cut up north but my route from there is undecided.

I plan to predominantly camp but will also be staying with the odd friend COVID permitting. Every penny donated will be split 50/50 between the Brain Tumour Charity and the MND Association. I’ll be keeping you updated on route plans, my journey and (most importantly) ‘the British Breakfast League Table’ on Instagram and Facebook pages which you’ll find below.

I’ll currently spending much of my time training, as well as working. I’ve just been on a practice trip up to Oxford which was tough but a good confidence booster and you can find out more about it on my social media pages. Of course with anything like this there is always the chance I might pick up an injury but, even if it means walking with my bike for the odd day, I want to keep moving.

Thanks for taking the time to read and if you’re able to give the page a share, it would be greatly appreciated!

All the best,

Jeremy

Hear Jacob's incredible courage raising money for St Gemma's Hospice who cared for his mother in her final days. He has raised nearly £45,000 so far as sponsorship his challenge. He is a brave boy and an inspiration for us all.

Jacob's Story
Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Jacob, I'm seven years old, I love military aircraft and I want to be a RAF Pilot when I'm older. This summer during my school half term holiday I'm going to climb the three highest mountains in Yorkshire in three days wearing my RAF Flying Suit with my Daddy to raise some pennies for St. Gemma's Hospice in memory of my beautiful Mummy, Andrea Newson.

On 27th December 2020 my beautiful mummy passed away at home at the age of just 49 with me and my daddy by her side. St Gemma's Hospice played a part in helping my mummy come to terms with cancer and helped us get my mummy home for Christmas just before she died so we could have one last Christmas together as a family. Thankfully St Gemma's Hospice still continue to support me and my daddy today, helping us come to terms with losing my mummy and providing us with support when needed.

If you could sponsor me just a few pounds to help me support this fantastic charity it would help ensure that any other Mums and Dads, Boys and Girls like me and my daddy get the vital support they need to help make their journey as painless as possible.

Thank You.

The IFA is the first governing body for aromatherapy established in 1985. They regulate and accredit standards in aromatherapy for both practitioners and qualification providers. Set up for the safety of the public, they have been a registered charity since 1986. The IFA has the highest standard of training in the UK and pioneered aromatherapy in the NHS, hospices and care professions, which is why it is as accepted by the UK medical profession as it is today. Having worked with various government health committees to improve the practice of aromatherapy across the world, the IFA is actively involved with elevating academic standards and influencing policy in the CAM field. Their early tutors and experts, who created and informed our curriculum and qualifying standards, having been taught by some of the most influential names within the field and pioneers of aromatherapy itself. The IFA is extensively involved in supporting various causes and integrating aromatherapy as part of rehabilitation and care programmes and is one of the only UK charities to have invested in research. They are committed to raising awareness and offer current, scientific and empirical information.

Nick is fundraising for amazing causes!

Samaritans North Herts & Stevenage | Mental Health UK | Phase Hitchin | Age UK Hertfordshire | NHS Charities Together | Alzheimer's Society

In 2020 Nicholas wore fancy dress costumes to work, attending hundreds of video calls in an effort to boost the mental health of his colleagues, friends and family. He wanted to create more opportunities to talk about mental health and to reduce the stigma of mental health. Why? Because he knew first hand how it feels to experience mental ill health; the isolation, desperation, confusion, shame and fear.

He also wanted to do something positive, helping those around him have a laugh and giving them a reason to feel hopeful (when hope was in short supply).

After being inspired by Joe Wicks and his 'fancy dress Friday', his one fancy dress costume turned into 34 and snowballed! He's been featured on the Zoe Ball Radio Breakfast show, interviewed LIVE on BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio 5 Live, and featured by the Metro Online, BBC Online, ITV Anglia, local radio and my local paper, the Comet.

He has raised over £7,500 (inc. gift aid) and counting for national and local charities close to his heart. His aim is to wear 100 costumes and raise £10,000 for these charities so he needs your help. If you can, donate but if you can't please share what he is doing!

So he asks you to enjoy his costumes have a laugh at his expense, and check-in with those closest to you!

What a man!

Big Leaf Foundation, in partnership with Surrey Arts and the Academy of Contemporary Music, has released a song titled ‘Remember Who You Are.’ The track was written and performed by local and displaced young people in Surrey, supported by Surrey Arts and two professional musicians, Chesney Hawkes and Chimpo. The final song was recorded at ACM in Guildford.
The song was created as part of our Music Connects project, launched in 2020 in response to the increase in social isolation experienced in lockdown by everyone, but particularly by young displaced people who are already very much alone. A core focus was to create a connection between displaced young people and those in their host community, as these are two groups who rarely have the opportunity to meet. This project embraced the linguistic and cultural differences that could be seen as a barrier to collaboration and incorporated the different musical styles and languages into the song. The track features English, Arabic and
Hausa and the young people involved come from the UK, Niger, Sudan, Albania and Syria.
The track, named ‘Remember Who You Are,’ is built around the idea of a different place - a place that is beautiful, peaceful and safe and somewhere you will not be alone. This concept was born from discussions around shared experiences of lockdown and is something we can all empathise with. Displaced people often face considerable social isolation due to a multitude of factors including being away from family and friends, linguistic and cultural barriers, little money and a lack of a support group to fall back upon.
Big Leaf Foundation aims to combat social isolation for displaced young people in Surrey through a nurturing programme of activities, projects and events. Music Connects led to friendships and collaboration between young people and fostered social inclusion for displaced young people in Surrey. In the words of one participant, “it’s helped me gain so much more confidence, it’s such an amazing experience… it’s been absolutely amazing getting to know all these different people that I otherwise probably would never have met.”
It’s been a wonderful experience for everyone involved and is best articulated by this quote from another participant, “it’s been so great working with everyone on the project… from different countries, different parts of the world, different backgrounds… it’s been so great to gain an idea of different cultures and just make amazing music together.”
The track, titled ‘Remember Who You Are’ and released under the I Speak Music banner is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud and any proceeds will go towards the next Music Connects project commencing on the 29th of May.
