Hey friends! Trigger warnings for this episode: depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. This episode was not made for little ears, and there are plenty of expletives, so please listen at your own discretion. Now onto the good stuff! It’s been awhile since my last upload, and you’re about to find out why. Something that I’ve been silently battling for quite a while is burn out. And while burn out is not something that is defined in the DSM-5, I can definitely attribute these struggles to some of the challenges I’ve dealt with in working through depression and anxiety. To be honest, burn out was a long time coming for me, and it’s kind of a miracle that I was able to fend it off for as long as I was. I share a lot more about my journey in this episode. Because this episode is so deeply intertwined with mental health, the most ethical thing to do was to bring on a professional. I’m joined today with my dear friend, Jayme Rivera -LCSW- of JLR Counseling. We go DEEP into this discussion as we cover:
How I learned about burn out the hard way What causes burn out? What are the symptoms? How does our society and the patriarchy promote burn out? How can we prevent it? What can we do to feel better when we’re already there How our community (or lack thereof) affects burn out The importance of learning a new mindset after regulating your nervous system Addressing unhelpful thoughts and where they come from Why I’m constantly reminding my daughter that I’m both her mom and an imperfect human being Why social awareness and burn out go hand in hand How spiritual growth is directly related to becoming more socially aware of the world around you How to find community after changing your mindset How to show up for yourself in the most basic of ways
Its a long one and there’s a lot of information jammed packed into 90 minutes of audio. I recommend listening a few times over to really absorb all of the guidance you’ll find in here. Let’s talk about Spring Cleaning! In this episode we will discuss the energy signature of clutter and the importance of cleaning out your closet! I clean out our closets at least twice a year but it wasn’t always that way. For a long time I really struggled parting with certain items because of my abandonment trauma (which caused me to become extremely attached to physical items). We will discuss how I helped myself move past those extremely strong emotions while creating a small second stream of income by re-selling, as well as how it helped me from an energetic standpoint. If you’re interested in learning more about re-selling feel free to send me a DM or email. If you haven’t used Poshmark yet, you can join using this link and we’ll both get $10 to spend. If you are listening and want to get some 1:1 coaching, you can request a free 30-minute discovery call here. DISCLAIMER: Warning! Not for little ears!
Welcome to a very special episode of I Spy Spirit featuring Natalee Rivero of The Peaceful Badass. Natalee and I cover a ton of ground in this episode, most of it focused on criticism regarding the space which we occupy. We love spirituality. We love coaching. We love helping people transform their lives and we share the belief that there is an ethical way to do that. Since the beginning of the pandemic there's been a lot of nonsense that's come up to the surface, so we're here today to debunk a whole lot of that nonsense and provide those of you who have a desire to do better with resources to inform yourself.
I know this is a departure from my first 5 episodes and it may bring up a lot of feelings for some people. That's OK. I started a podcast because I wanted to get people thinking about the ways that Spirit shows up in their lives. And if you listened to episode 4 about how I Spy Spirit in Anger, then you'll understand what I mean when I say that this episode was the result of righteous anger & frustration regarding an industry that we are deeply passionate about.
Join us as we discuss the state of the world, conspirituality (the love child of conspiracy theories + spirituality), activism, motherhood, ableism, the impact of mental health & spiritual influencers, our own cringe moments, and much much more!

In this episode we will cover:

As I mentioned in the episode we are currently at the beginning of a Mercury Retrograde; from now through February 3rd is a great time to examine where you have been placing your focus.
Ask yourself: is this current focal point serving my highest good? Is it helping to create the life that I want? In what ways am I giving away my sovereign power over my life?
Hint: those might make some good journal prompts :)
