This week's episode I talk about the importance of community and connection. I have chosen with intention to be a part of different communities and share how they have added to my life and I'm told allowed me an add in positive way to others as well. There's a perception that widowed persons are unhappy most of the time but as I continue my journey and share in the journey of others I have found that I am better than happy...hope you enjoy.

If everything around you seems dark, look again you may be the light. Is the quote that inspired this podcast. It's easy and normal to fall into negative thinking. In fact your brain is wired to work that way. It can be made worst by getting stuck in this pattern. But I've recently been encouraged by moments when I've allowed myself to listen to others when they are struggling. I have discovered that sometimes this leads to a discover that I may in fact - in the midst of all my struggles - be light for someone else's darkness. We can't always access this capacity but when we can it comes with moments of healing and deep human connection. Enjoy.

You may have heard this phase and it can be confusing and frustrating...it was for me at first. There's so much to discuss in this week's episode because it is a rich and complex topic. It involves deeply held feelings and differing perspectives. But I offer some touchstones for navigating this emotionally charged area. I share my perspective and what I learned with you that helps me navigate my feelings and the feelings others in your life might have on love after loss.

I hope you enjoy and if you do please like and share or maybe leave a review.

Thanks and Happy Holidays.

So with all the holiday meals it got me thinking about grief as an ingredient in life. It has the unusual quality of making the sweet ingredients in life more bitter but also the bitter ingredients more sweet. That's this week's podcast.

In addition I'm so happy to back! I've taken a few weeks off. This has been a season of grief like no other. This time of year has always been tough but this year in particular I've been "pancaked" by losses that seem to come every 3 or 4 years on cycle that I wish would end.

The podcast and my coaching practice have been transformed/ reborn to focus on our journey as widowers. So many good things to come and I'm excited to share with you.

For today's episode I thought about two seemingly different painful experiences. I look at the similarities in our responses and in how we can deal with each using some of the same tools.

In a not to Pink Floyd today's episode is called another brick in the wall. I walk through how we often deal with pain by putting up walls. We think the walls protect us but in fact they isolate us when we most need to expose the pain we are going through.

This episode is about being in indecision. We can get stuck here due to fear, lack of trust and their emotional cousin perfectionism. Not deciding is a decision in itself. I talk about how to move forward and why to move forward. Enjoy.

I don't really think hiking sucks but this weekend's hike proved to be a good metaphor for life. I was reminded of how we view change and challenge in life. It was funny, encouraging and enlightening.

Enjoy.

This week I'm talking about finding joy through discomfort. Discomfort is a part of life and it's not going away so we might as well get good at feeling it.

This week's episode is about find beauty in brokenness and healing through scars.  I find the art of Kintsugi to be a metaphor for this.  It is and art form where broken bowls, dishes, vases and other items are repaired in a very auspicious manner by fusing the pieces back with gold inlay.  The finish product is more beautiful and more valuable than the original piece.

If you can excuse my sniffles I hope you enjoy.

Today I want to make the case that boredom is not the problem we think it is and that if we can get better at being bored - we might get better at living life to it's fullest.

This week my cat Joe caught a lizard and brought it into the house to show everyone. Nasty yes.  But what if I told you he did it for love and there's a lesson about coaching to not be missed.

In this week's episode we talk about community and how important all forms of c community can be in the face of cancer.  in spite of the incredible strength and courage of the those we know with cancer it is also vital to have a community that you belong to..maybe as small as your family or a few friends or as large as organized support groups. I also daylight my desire to create a community for you should you chose to be a part of it.

This week's podcast is about my participation as a 1:1 mindset coach for Stacey Boehman's 200K Mastermind 3-Day live event Nashville.  It was amazing and inspiring.  I feel as if a shift occurred over the course of the event and while I can't quite "put a finger on" what that shift is or how it will ultimately look I want to share my process for figuring that out.

I hope you enjoy.

This week is a rant.  I normally publish on Mondays and it's Thursday. Yes I had thoughts about why bother. But then I had a very rough emotional experience this week and in both cases I put into practice the things that coaching has taught me and that I've taught others - but very distinctly different experiences and how I applied coaching to each.

Warning this podcast is a rant. No script but that's kind of the point because sometimes life can be a rant with no script.

This week we talk about dealing with resistance.  What is it? Why do we experience resistance? Hint in most cases it's not helpful nor is it an indicator of what you should or should not be doing.

This week we talk about the power of the word "and".  You're already using this powerful and transformational word in your life...but not to your best advantage.  In this episode we talk about how to do that.

In this week's short episode we talk about the parable of the farmer.  Presented with a variety of situations that  on the face seem clearly good or clearly bad the farmer replies maybe.  In what may be our culture a frustratingly noncommittal approach is in fact a mindset that is born of self discipline, strength and trust.

I hope you enjoy.

Today's episode is about acceptance and permission when dealing with cancer diagnosis.  It is an understatement that it is difficult to find and live from a place of joy, hope and gratitude but I want to offer that while cancer is full of ugly surprises we have to tricks up our sleeves as well.

First pardon the wind noise. I recorded the podcast outdoors at a weekend retreat. Today's episode is about fight languages.  Most of us have heard of love languages but it my opinion we need more understanding of what our fight languages look like and how to manage them - like their counterpart love languages to really have successful relationships. Enjoy.

Today's podcast is a reflection back on my decision to start a podcast.  It was in part a decision birth out of a desire to connect with people in my community and honor those in my family.  As I have explored my various identities as the spouse of someone with cancer, to life coach, to widower the podcast has changed with me as I explored those topics.  So this episode I look back and look forward to what's next.

This week's podcast is about thinking better thoughts (Alternate Title: If a Tree Falls in the Woods does it Still Make a Sound). A lot of us default to negative thinking that drags our feelings down and we can't get out of that spiral.  Today I talk about how we can get control over all that negativity and make conscience and intentional choices about how we think and feel. It's about being aware and curious and doing the emotional work. Not just thinking happy thoughts that don't stick and don't offer lasting transformation . Hope you enjoy.

But when we face them and process the emotions that come with them we find the we a stronger and more capable than we ever knew.

We've all heard "Fake It Till You Make It". This quote is not as helpful as you think.  It implies that you're an imposter and that if no one finds out at some point in the future you might make it.

In this podcast I suggest some alternative thoughts that a.) I don't think you ever heard before and b.) are far more helpful. I hope you enjoy.
