If you're tired of hearing from the same gurus shouting each other out and talking about the same things over and over again, this episode is for you. Kim shares why she's excited about Regeneration 2025, a free virtual summit that's bringing together diverse voices who are reimagining business as a force for good.

You'll discover why the online coaching world often feels like a pyramid scheme (spoiler: it's not just you), and how events like this summit are creating something more regenerative, collaborative, and human. Kim talks about her experience with the Prosper Network and why this community feels so different from the typical online business echo chamber.

She introduces you to some of the incredible speakers you'll hear from, including Tina Wells (the millennial whisperer), Sam Horn (communication expert who's worked with NASA and National Geographic), and Amina AlTai (who teaches career, body, and mind balance after her own burnout journey).

This isn't about celebrity or sameness - it's about perspective, generosity, and expansion. If you're craving new ways of doing business that emphasize cooperation over competition and circulation over hoarding, you'll want to hear about this summit happening November 17-19.

Kim tackles the biggest roadblock keeping seasoned entrepreneurs stuck on the sidelines: the belief that they're "not ready" for premium clients and high-ticket offers.

If you've been watching others with less experience get more attention while you undervalue your expertise, this episode reveals why you're probably more ready than you think.

Kim shares how every high-earning consultant she's worked with felt unprepared but succeeded anyway, plus real client stories of transformation when they finally owned their worth.

Discover:

  • Why high-ticket isn't about charging more (it's about creating more value),

  • How mismatched messaging keeps you speaking to beginner problems when your audience has premium-level needs

  • The exact positioning shifts that help you become the go-to expert in your niche

Perfect for Gen X entrepreneurs ready to stop playing small and build the sustainable, spacious business they've been craving.

After seven years in business and 165 episodes, I'm retiring my signature program, The Joy of Copy Club. This past year felt heavy. I lost my spark. I even applied for a job (spoiler: didn't get it). But the universe had other plans. New clients reached out. Podcast downloads doubled. My newsletter is growing like never before.

I realized something big: The Joy of Copy Club evolved into something far beyond copy. The real magic was watching women discover themselves, unearth their voice, and transform how they show up in business. It was never just about the copy. It was always about strategy, leadership, and selling with confidence.

In this episode, I'm announcing a new incubator and mentorship experience called Pivot to Premium. I built my business selling premium services to premium clients. I never had a $49 course or $97 membership. Instead, I made consistent, sustainable income through high-value, high-trust relationships with clients willing to pay for transformation.

The market is different now. Buyers are more discerning. They don't want low-ticket quick fixes or endless freebies. They're seeking mastery and results. When trust is low, people turn to their communities for reliable referrals. This is your opportunity to become the go-to choice.

I'm sharing what's inside Pivot to Premium and why now is the ideal time to elevate your offers, command the fees you deserve, and reclaim the spaciousness and ease you've been craving in your business.

This summer, I’m bringing back some of my most-loved podcast episodes, and today’s is a gem.

You’ve likely heard of the 9-word email, a magical little formula created by marketing legend Dean Jackson. It’s short, punchy, and still incredibly effective for re-engaging leads and booking new clients in 2025.

But here’s the problem. Most people are using it wrong.

A recent newsletter from a well-known marketing expert reminded me how often the most important parts of this strategy get left out. So I’m diving back into this episode to give you the full picture. What to do, what to avoid, and how I’ve personally used this email to book $10K in client work.

You’ll learn:

  • What the 9-word email actually is (and why it works)
  • The right time and audience to send it to
  • Mistakes that make you look out of touch (and how to avoid them)
  • Real-life examples you can swipe and test today

Whether you’re reviving cold leads or teasing a new offer, this email strategy can be gold when used properly.

If you tuned in to last week's episode, you know we discussed the importance of being bold and clear in your messaging and marketing.

Right now, one of the biggest trends is having a clear point of view.

Nothing helps you stand out more in your marketing than knowing how to articulate what you do and whom you help in a clear and compelling way.

Some call this the elevator pitch, some call it a power statement, but I like to call it a BFD or Big Frigging Deal statement.

If you want to attract your ideal buyers in the remainder of the year, you need to be bold and compelling with your BFD statement.

Listen in for the full details on how to create yours.

The marketing landscape has changed big time, and today’s buyers are more cautious, more skeptical, and taking way longer to say yes.

In this episode of Ill Communication, I’m breaking down the three essentials your business needs to sell with more clarity and ease in 2025, especially in what many experts are calling a “trust recession.”

We cover:

  • How to clarify your core message so your dream clients immediately know you’re talking to them
  • Why your brand voice and personality are more important than ever (and how to show up like you across every touchpoint)
  • What it really means to have a strategic sales plan so you’re not scrambling last minute or repeating the same rushed copy every launch

This episode is your permission slip to pause, recalibrate, and rework the way you market and sell with a strategy that’s thoughtful, flexible, and designed for real results.

Plus, I’ll introduce you to Copy Camp, my summer sales and messaging accelerator built for high-touch founders who want to finish the year strong without the hustle.

This episode is different—and deeply personal. I'm stepping away from the usual copywriting tips to talk about something many of us avoid: mental health, burnout, and the hidden toll of holding it all together. The past year left me mentally and emotionally tapped out, and I didn’t even fully realize it until I was on the other side. So in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m opening up about the behind-the-scenes struggles I’ve faced as a business owner—and the quiet moments of dissociation, disconnection, and doing the bare minimum just to keep going.

To help make sense of it all, I’m joined by Rebecca Vigelius, a neuro-somatic intelligence practitioner and stress coach who helps high-performing women feel human again without sacrificing their success. Rebecca shares practical, physiological tools to help you come back to yourself when life (or business) gets heavy—and why rest and nervous system regulation aren’t luxuries, they’re survival skills.

Topics Covered in This Episode:

  • The hidden behaviors that might be signs of burnout or dissociation
  • Why “just think positive” might actually be making things worse
  • A three-word tool to reconnect with yourself in under a minute

This episode is a love letter to every entrepreneur who’s ever kept smiling while quietly unraveling. You are not alone. Whether you’re in the thick of it or feeling strong right now, this episode offers a new lens—and a few powerful shifts—to help you navigate the harder seasons with more clarity and capacity.

Why do some high-ticket offers sell effortlessly while others struggle to gain traction? The secret isn’t just in what you’re selling—it’s how you’re selling it.

In this episode, I’m covering what strategies actually work when marketing and selling premium offers in 2025. I’ll reveal where your high-ticket buyers are really hanging out (hint: it’s not where you think), how to craft messaging that positions you as the expert they need, and why less is often more when it comes to selling high-end services. Plus, I’ll share four of my favorite copywriting frameworks to help you write faster, sell more, and attract your dream clients with confidence.

If you feel like your premium offers aren’t getting the attention they deserve, this episode will change the way you approach your marketing and sales strategy.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The truth about where high-ticket buyers really hang out
  • Why trying to “hack the algorithm” won’t help you sell premium offers
  • The one thing high-ticket buyers always look for before making a purchase

You don’t have to write your high-ticket message by yourself. I'll guide you step-by-step through developing and perfecting your high-ticket message inside The Joy of Copy Club. Or, if you’d rather have someone handle all the research, strategy, and writing for you, I can take it off your plate. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, only rookies write from scratch!

The best copywriters in the business spend the majority of our time researching our clients’ offers, our clients’ voices, and our clients’ customers. And then we take that rich research and we plug it into a copywriting framework or formula to assemble a brilliant marketing or sales message.

In this episode of ill communication, I’m sharing another simple and super effective copywriting formula that you can use for writing Facebook ads, social media posts, emails, and customer testimonials or case studies.

It’s called the BAB formula and I love it for so many reasons. I’m diving into what this formula is, how to use it, an example of it in use, and what to be careful of when using this formula.

It is simple and easy for your reader to understand, and it keeps things super simple for us when we're writing as well. Tune in to learn how to get started using it!

What you’re going to hear is how I built a super chill multi-six-figure business as a Gen-Xer. I’m currently celebrating five years as a business owner, which, if you look at the stats, is a pretty big deal!

That's why today I want to share the things I wish I knew before becoming an entrepreneur. I also want to share a little bit about what I think is underpinning the kind of success that I've had, because there may be some insights you can take from your own life and business, too.

Today, I’m getting on my soapbox.

They call us the Slacker Generation. The Forgotten or Lost Generation. The Latchkey Generation. But I like to think that we are the generation that had the best and possibly the highest hair. We are Gen X.

In this episode of ill communication, I’m talking about the generation that’s largely left out of marketing and advertising campaigns. So if you want some insights into an untapped economic power and marketing opportunity, this episode is for you.

The truth is, this generation hasn’t really been invited to the table in the same way that the Boomers and Millennials have. If you haven't considered marketing to Gen X women, you're missing a huge opportunity. This generation of women is amazing, and we make incredible entrepreneurs.

Today we're taking a tasty little break from regularly scheduled copywriting programming because it's my mission to make your life easier and to demystify and simplify copywriting and marketing so you can get your beautiful voice and message and impact out into the world.

I love sharing tips and hacks to make your business and your life a little easier and more joyful. And that's why today on ill communication,  I'm not going to be sharing a copy recipe. Instead, I'm sharing a food recipe for one of the most challenging items on the holiday table. You guessed it, gravy!

The thing is, making gravy can be tricky. There are totally different techniques. Do you shake the flour and water together and then add them to the drippings? Or do you add the flour to the drippings to make a roux and then whisk in the broth? What do you do about the lumps?

Cooking dinner during the holidays is stressful enough, and then you add gravy to the mix! Tune in to hear the golden formula for cooking delicious gravy this holiday season!

There is a common saying in the copywriting world: only rookies write from scratch.

Seasoned copywriters like me never start with a blank page. We typically have a considerable amount of customer research which gives us all of the messaging and words we need to write. And when we match that customer research with a copywriting formula or a framework, the copy is assembled into a sales message that's designed to connect and convert.

In this episode of ill communication, I’m sharing a copywriting formula that’s perfect for businesses and charities, especially as we approach the end of the year. This copywriting formula is a little bit different than some of the others that I have shared on the podcast.

This formula is called ACCA. This stands for Awareness, Comprehension, Conviction, and Action. It gives you a chance to provide a little more education and explanation behind the problems your reader is facing.

Tune in to learn more about what this copywriting formula is, how to use it, and why it works!

Simplicity is the secret to sales, and in this episode of ill communication, you’re going to find out why.

The last thing you want to do is overwhelm your reader or sales prospect with too many choices. You don’t want to have a metaphorically jam-packed shelf of offers that makes your readers confused and so paralyzed about the choice that they choose to leave.

That’s why today’s episode about the rule of one is so important. The rule of one is the foundation for all great copywriting. It reminds us to focus on writing for one reader, talk about one big idea, provide one offer or promise, and ask for one call to action.

Focus on your one reader or ideal buyer. Imagine you’re having a face-to-face conversation with her. Talk about her problems, desires, objections, and dreams. When you write to your one reader, she’ll know you’re talking to her and that you understand her and her problems.

In every sales message you write, whether it’s a Facebook ad, social media post, or sales email, you want to focus on one big idea or theme instead of trying to tackle them all. You also want to give them only one action to take so that you can increase your conversions or sales.

Tune in to this episode to learn why simplicity is so important and how to use the rule of one in your sales copy.

This episode of ill communication is going to help you come up with content for any day of the year.

As you may know, about once a month on the podcast I share a writing prompt to give you a little inspiration for what to write about. Whether you’re looking for an idea for an email, blog article, or social media post, this writing prompt has saved me many times when I’m brain-dead and can’t think of what to write.

The best part is that this writing prompt is so simple. All you have to do is check out what national day it is that day! There are websites that list every holiday. All you have to do is scroll through that website and see what inspires you.

You can connect it to your business if it works for you. However, you don’t have to. You can also just use it to bring a little delight, entertainment, and joy.

Tune in to this episode to learn more about how I use this writing prompt whether it’s for business or just to bring a little joy to my readers’ lives and put a smile on their faces.

Last week, at the end of the episode, I let you know that if you tune in this week I will share some formulas for writing subject lines - including my favorite one. That is a technique called an open loop.

You’ll see this technique used frequently in movies and T.V. shows. The cliffhanger entices you to come back for more, which is why it’s one of my favorite subject line formulas.

In this episode of ill communication, I’m sharing part 2 of my mini-series to increase your email open rates. Last week, we talked about how to measure them and the effect your sender name has on your open rates. This week, I’m sharing my tips for subject lines and preview text.

Your subject line is a critical piece of your email strategy because it’s essentially a mini advertisement to get people to click on your email. These subject line formulas are tried and true and sure to increase your email open rates.

Your preview text is just as important as your subject line. It allows you to further amp up the drama for your email and entice people to click.

Tune in to learn more about how to nail your subject line and preview text for higher open rates!

Think about the mail you’ve received recently… I’m talking about snail mail. If you’re like me, you probably get a lot of bills. You can just tell by the envelope when it’s a bill. They all look official, ominous, and boring. You also probably get plenty of junk mail and fliers.

My favorite kind of mail, however, is something that I rarely receive any more. It’s a letter from a friend or family member, a postcard, or an actual envelope with unique handwriting. This is the kind of mail I open immediately because I’m so curious to see what’s inside.

This got me thinking about emails and what makes readers want to actually open them. There are a lot of lessons we can take from snail mail that we can apply to digital mail. In this episode of ILL communication, I’m sharing the first part of my two-part series on getting your emails opened.

In this first part, I’m highlighting a few simple tips and changes you can make when you send your emails to get people to open and read them. You’ll get my simple do’s and don’ts.

Next week, you’ll get my plug-and-play subject line formulas. We will talk about preheader text in emails and how that can help or hinder your open rates.

This series is going to be full of my best tips so make sure to tune in so you don’t miss a thing!

What do the Beastie Boys, Rice Krispies, and the movie 9 To 5 have in common?

If you guessed that they were a few of my favorite things, you wouldn’t be wrong! However, these are all brilliant examples of a powerful writing and marketing principle that will help you write memorable, effective, and entertaining sales copy.

In this episode of ill communication, you’re going to find out why the rule of three is a powerful tool to have in your marketing toolbox. You’ll begin to use it to strengthen your message and after this episode, you’ll probably begin to see it everywhere.

As Aristotle said, three is perfection. Our brains love patterns and three is the smallest number you need to create a pattern. Once you start infusing this rule into your copy, you’ll love the way it turns out.

You don’t have to follow this rule exclusively, that would probably get pretty annoying for your reader and you can’t always convey every message with this rule. But the next time you’re writing for your business, keep the rule of three in mind because it could turn a bland, boring message into something more memorable.

Tune in to learn more about the rule of three and how to use it to make your sales copy stand out.

Ready to write effective sales copy?

In this episode of ill communication, I’m providing you with a checklist to help you write effective sales copy. You’ll use this checklist to help you prepare for writing and to help you edit your writing before you hit send or publish.

You’ll learn this with the 5 Cs of copywriting. If you’re a digital marketer or copywriter, you might have heard of Bob Bly’s copywriting formula. It is a beautifully succinct way of explaining the foundations of great sales copy.

I think Bob’s formula is awesome; however, I do think that something is missing and it is worth adding to the formula. It’s an ingredient that is sadly missing from a lot of the sales messaging that we see today.

Tune in to hear my modern refresh of this classic formula and how to start using it to level up your sales copy today.

Need inspiration for what to write? You’re in the right place because I’m coming in hot with your monthly writing prompt.

As a refresher, a writing prompt is something that gives you inspiration for what to write in your next email, blog, or social media post.

The writing prompt I’m sharing is perfect for building the “know, like, and trust” factor with your audience and building your authority. It’s an especially good piece of content to include in the pre-launch phase of your sale or promotion.

This prompt will help you answer the question every customer has: “How do I know if I’m ready for your service or program?” It’s brilliant because you basically help them see if they actually need to work with you.

Another amazing perk of using this writing prompt is that it is so versatile. You can use it in so many different ways. You can present it as a checklist, a listicle article, or a carousel post, just to name a few.

Tune in to hear more about this writing prompt, why it’s perfect for your business, and how to use it!

Want to make your copy sound a little more elegant? Earlier on in my career, I learned the simplest and easiest trick for this.

In this episode of ill communication, we are talking about the trouble with “that.” You may be surprised to find that you can eliminate it (and other unnecessary filler words) from most of your copy, and it still reads the same while sounding so much better.

It’s surprising how much it comes up in our language and how we actually don’t need to use it very often. “That” is a filler word. It clutters your copy and gives your readers more words to read than they actually need.

All of the words I’m sharing today can be easily eliminated to improve readability and clarity. Think about it, people are hit with over 5,000 messages per day. Most people are seeing those messages through a small smartphone screen, so you have to ask yourself “how can I make this easier to read?”

People are very choosy about how and with whom they spend their time. By eliminating the unnecessary words I’m sharing with you today, you can make your copy simpler and more enjoyable to read so people actually want to read it.

Tune in to learn more about what words to leave out of your copy and how it will take your copywriting skills to the next level.

Want to learn about a copy formula that you can use for practically anything?

In this episode of ill communication, we are talking about the Mary Poppins of copy formulas. In the movie, Mary Poppins measures herself, and it says she is “practically perfect in every way.” I love this saying, and it’s why I named this episode after Mary Poppins.

I’m sharing a copywriting formula with you that is practically perfect in every way for almost every piece of copy you need to write. There are dozens and dozens of copywriting formulas that you could use for just about anything: Facebook ads, social posts, sales pages, and even podcasts, but this one covers them all.

Granted, copywriting formulas are very persuasive, and when put in the wrong hands, they can be harmful. The most important thing you need to remember when it comes to copywriting formulas is to approach them with a perspective that puts the needs of your customer first and that you do no harm.

That being said, I fully love copywriting formulas! They are amazing because they give you a constraint that cuts down on the overwhelm and overthinking we do when we sit down to write something. I invite you all to embrace the constraint of copywriting formulas to help you write faster and more creatively.

The copywriting formula I’m sharing today is a golden oldie that will attract interest, generate interest, arouse desire, and inspire action. Tune in to learn more about how to start using it for your copy today!

Welcome to the ill communication podcast!

I’ll be honest, when I learned that I had to dedicate this first episode to talking about myself, I got all up in my head. I don’t want to talk about myself! I don’t know what to say or if you’ll even be interested in hearing it.

If you’re an entrepreneur or a woman in business, I have no doubt you can relate to the little gremlins that pop up in our minds and make us question our worth or expertise. We second guess ourselves and procrastinate showing up and putting ourselves out there.

As I worked through this crisis of confidence to launch this podcast, I realized that this is why I’m creating this podcast in the first place! I want to give women business owners easy tools to stop second-guessing themselves, stop overthinking, and start sharing their message with the world.

I want to help you amplify your voice and your genius so you can grow your business with a little more ease and a lot more joy. With that said, in this first episode of the ill communication podcast, I am going to be getting over my own fears and finally opening up to share with you who I am and how I am going to help you level up your copywriting skills.

These episodes will be short and sweet and full of information that you can take direct action with. Tune in to learn more about me, what you can expect from my podcast, and my number one tip to stop overthinking and start writing.

Are you looking for a super simple tip to transform your copywriting?

In this episode of ill communication, I am sharing a simple and actionable tip you can use to improve your copywriting today. Using this tip will instantly make your copy more relatable and enjoyable for your reader, and it will help you turn boring corporate copy into engaging and conversational copy.

Ready for the tip?

It’s called the Rule of You. It helps you make sure that you’re talking about your audience and their needs rather than yourself in your copy. When you follow this rule, the words “I”, “me”, and “ours” will be replaced with “you”, “your”, and “yours”.

It’s important to remember that your readers and customers are always asking “what’s in it for me?” This rule will help you answer that question. Using this rule in your copy helps you focus it on your readers and helps them feel more included and understood.

Sound amazing? Tune in to learn more about the Rule of You, how to use it, when to use it, when not to use it, and so much more.
