This weeks podcast probably isn't so humorous, but that's life isn't it, sometimes we have good weeks and sometimes we have bad weeks. One thing that I have learned is not to tolerate the people in your life, who say they want to be involved in your life, try and get your attention then use silence as a form of emotional abuse, to make you doubt yourself.

People who start criticising things you are doing, making people close to you see you in a different light just because they are jealous that you are getting more of that persons attention. They make you feel like you have done something wrong, when actually its them, you are the person who is going out and doing it. This type of behaviour causes anxiety in people, the person experiencing it will worry about what they have done to upset you, it is a manipulative form of behaviour and should be recognised as such. If your partner is an anxious person, a sign will be that they keep asking you if you are ok, when they are actually projecting their feelings onto you which is a sign of anxiety. Look out for people taking advantage of them and treating them in this way and don't be afraid to call out the behaviour and make a thing of it. It's not acceptable to be treated in this way and if you want someone's friendship or support this is not a genuine behaviour, a genuine person will say something to your face, not to someone else behind your back.

I was a bit surprised recently that some people don't know how to organise events. This was prompted by Sophie Ellis Bexter*s post on Instagram a couple of weeks ago about the lack of female artists at festivals. I wanted to look a bit more into the detail a bit more on this one and see if that was the case. This led me to thinking about the seemingly lack of rock chicks and female rock stars and I have a look at the reasons that might be. Is this whole Manosphere scaring women off putting themselves into the limelight? Or has the stalking of famous female celebrities had an impact? After all celebrities are the people that are usually being stalked, it would be highly unusual for a celebrity to be stalking a normal everyday girl. If people found out then it would affect the way that this celebrity were seen by society, especially if they have a narcissist need to be liked.

Star of Your Life = new file with sound this time

The story of the music by Aaron Copland Appalachian Spring is set post second World War, he wrote it for a ballerina, the story is based on a young couple who are settling into a new farmhouse in the early 19th century.

The angel is the woman looking back on her own life. It also shows the transgression towards the end of her life, the spotlight represents the beam of light, a way up to heaven. The music has part of the Lord of the Dance, which is about Jesus and reincarnation, so the angel is pointing to the star of Bethlehem to indicate that Jesus may soon be returning.

When this music and ballet were produced it was the hope that men and women would be equal following on from the war. There is progress but, now women are encouraged to be beautiful, thin and to alter themselves in order to make themselves attractive to men. When it should be about who you are as a person as beauty fades over time. The quaker and the conductor, both men are centre stage in the painting as it is mainly men that are listened to in positions of influence. The young woman is waiting at home at a time of war listening to the quaker. She doesn’t know if her husband who is at war is alive or dead. She would not have known this in previous wars, so he is painted as a ghostly figure. She would have had to manage the house and everything else herself. She would have had to be a very strong independent woman much like myself, having lived on a smallholding.

I have added the three buglers as a Union, Confederate and American GI soldier to show previous wars and the bugles sound in the piece of music and represent war today off stage. In today’s modern world people constantly film, they don’t really listen to what is being said, much like Jesus felt he was not listened to. They just want to show the rest of the world that they were there. The person in charge of the lights who could be a man or a woman as there is more work equality now. Is too busy filming and misses the lighting cue. The spotlight is not on the main star, who is the biggest figure as you should be the star of your own life. She is an angel to represent myself as James Blunts Angel from the subway, heading towards the spotlight, as I have now revealed it’s me. I feel because I am now a middle-aged woman I am overlooked, ignored, social media means that everyone has a voice and it’s difficult to be heard. The stage manager has his head in his hands as it has gone wrong and there is nothing that he can do about it from the back of the stage. It is also an indication that in relationships things go wrong and you just have to deal with them as and when they happen. That’s real life, different to the way relationships are portrayed in the Arts, there isn’t always a happily ever after.

Firstly thanks to my incredible listeners, blown away by this weeks download figures, 11/04 it was 164 downloads over 7 days, a bit stunned really as when I first started it was about 7 a week. Really appreciate the original 7 people though.

This month there has been a lot of personal change for me, I am really good at identifying what is working in my life and what isn't. If something is making me unhappy then I work to identify that and change it.

I am also really good at identifying things that I no will be a problem for me, in the future and its important to address these things and let the person concerned know so that you can come up with a plan or a way to work around it.

Have a listen and I hope that this helps you to identify just one thing in your life that you think, I have been thinking about that for years, procrastinating over it, this month I will actually do something about it.

Happy New Year to all my listeners. At the beginning of every year I like to reflect on myself and my situation. What doesn't work, what I want to change about myself, what things I enjoyed doing and what I want to do more of. What things that I didn't enjoy and want to do less of next year.

Join me on this podcast as I review myself and set myself some personal goals for 2026. If you are doing this yourself remember to make sure they are SMART, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timed. If you set yourself an unrealistic goal you are less likely to achieve it and it won't have the desired affect.

This weeks podcast is about things that you can do with your partner, obviously there is the usual banter by myself which has nothing to do with the actual podcast and I sing at the end as well. For any James Blunt fans out there, yes you guessed it I am a little off key!

Christmas can be a lonely time though, so you can do quite a few of these things on your own or with your dog, you don't need to be part of a couple.

And Christmas is just one day, you don't have to enjoy yourself or feel great or spend a ridiculous amount of money on presents. Its about Christmas lights, brightening your house and bringing light into it during the cold dark winter. If you want to leave them up until March, go for it, who says you have to take them down on the twelfth night! Its about remembering those who are no longer with us, remembering the ghosts of the past, letting go, focusing on the future and the here and now. That like Scrooge you can change who you are and your behaviour. People can go and buy their own stuff, but spending time with people is something that you can't ever get back. When you are sitting in a nursing home looking at memories you won't ever think I wish I had been bought more stuff. You will be trying to cling onto the memories of the past, the fun, the laughter and most importantly of all the love.

People are facing financial challenges this year, so instead of breaking the bank trying to buy everyone a Christmas gift, why not make something instead. I come up with a few different Christmas gift ideas that won't break the bank and that you can make yourself. Remember Christmas is a time to be spent with family friends and loved ones, time is the gift not just buying an expensive present.

This week I am continuing with the equine theme and I show the differences in riding two different horses on a trail ride while in South Africa. There are snippets from each ride, which were taken from the head camera that I wore and consequently it is a poorer sound quality, but it gives you an idea of what the rides were like. I rode two different types of horses for these rides, the first ride was a 15.2hh chunky thug type and the second was a 17.2hh appaloosa horse who was new and had been used for dressage. You can tell from my voice that I ride both horses completely differently.

The last section is about the Llanymynech horse trials that I helped Jane with cross country stewarding and some of the amusing moments that we had during the day.

At 50, I have managed to find a way to go from being really unhappy and in a negative place to being really happy without taking any medications or recreational drugs or drinking any alcohol. I have found happiness and positivity from within myself. It is becoming increasingly obvious that there is not much support from Mental Health out there, so having experienced poor mental health myself and got myself through it, I am here to help you in the next few weeks with a series of podcast helping you to find your happy.
This week I talk through identifying what it is that is making you feel unhappy, I no that sometimes you can't or do want to talk to anyone about it, now you don't have to you can just listen to me guiding you through what might be causing you stress and worry in your life, from my own personal experience.
When you have identified what is making you unhappy, before you make any changes you need to do a bit of work on yourself to get yourself to a place where you are able to deal with everything and I will talk you through the process of how I did this starting this week with self care.

Hi everyone and welcome to Catherine Lorimers Guide to Life Podcast.

It is week 3 of my London Marathon Training and a welcome back to Alan (Hello) you were away skiing last week, your fan did email and complain that you were not on the Podcast last week so at least we know one person is listening to us.

Did you have a good break (Yes) Well Alan you are a man of few words, let’s hope I don’t ever have to interview you.

Now last week was the 50th episode of my podcast, which you missed Alan while you were on pieste, probably off pieste in the bar piesete.

I started this podcast in September 2022, I had a break last year, which is something that I will not be doing this year, I am aiming to get a full year so 52 episodes of 1-hour long podcasts in and I have already got some exciting activities and adventures planned for this year. I have also already got some fantastic and interesting guests to interview lined up.

Now coming up in this weeks podcast, I have an update on my training, I will be interviewing / getting some more tips from Jo Bridges, who is a personal Trainer and has her own gym and online membership for some advice on strength and conditioning and Pilates to help with my running. I have been cooking more meals from the Mindful Chef and Alan will, be. Err what will you be doing Alan (pressing buttons). Just for anyone who is listening to the podcast for the first time, Alan is the producer, I occasionally get him to read stuff out and he is the one with the fan!

My Marathon training has gone really well this week and I am feeling really well prepared for my half marathon this weekend, providing we don’t have any adverse weather that cancels it. Last week I ended up running 17 miles instead of the 15 miles I had planned to run, this week I have given myself more of a break, doing a 5 mile long run with Pippa while my car gets MOTed and then some shorter 2 mile runs mid week again working on pace and continuous running rather than the walk running that I have been doing. The half marathon I am doing is around a really hilly area, so great training but also challenging, if I get a time under 3 hours for this one I will be happy, I would love a time of between 2 hrs 40 and 2 hrs 50, that would be awesome. I have a plan to run at my 5k pace for most of the way as I managed that on my 9 mile run last week, then slow the pace slightly after 9 miles and finish the rest at the slower pace, but I will see how it goes as if there are a lot of steep hills, I might walk those and then run the rest of the way at my 3k pace.

What has worked well this week

I have been doing more work on continual running and also work on my pace on shorter distances. Sprint work is probably best for this as well, but I haven’t had chance to do that, as it has been a bit icy this week.

What has been challenging this week.

The main challenges this week have been the snow and the extreme cold, running in the cold as an asthmatic is difficult and when you have icy conditions it is a bit dicy, I managed to get a couple of runs in, I am tapering this week ahead of my half marathon on Sunday.

Strength and conditioning sessions

This week I am easing off on the strength and conditioning sessions ahead of my half marathon run on Sunday. I have done one arm session and a platies session and will do stretch session after my run, I use Jo Bridge who I was chatting to earlier one, she has a great one on YouTube.

Here is a snippet from one of her sessions.

Healthy Eating

I am really happy with the food that I have been eating this week, only a couple of suspect biscuits h

London Marathon Training Week 2

Hello and welcome to this weeks podcast about my London Marathon Training, for anyone who didn’t listen to week one, I started running in February 2023 after doing a half marathon walk around London and ran my first marathon at the beginning of September, in just 7 months. This podcast is also here to give you some inspiration if you have just started running and to give you some hints and tips and advise you if you are running your first marathon or if you just want some motivation to get fitter and loose some weight.

Coming up in the podcast this week, update on my training, I will be interviewing my amazing marathon runner cousin, James Kimber, I have some dumbbell tips from Jo Bridge Fitness I will be letting you know about Mindful Chef and to finish off some beginner running tips.

In week one I ran a total of 17 miles over 4 days, this week I have run a total of over 4 days, I wanted to say a bit about planning, I diaries the miles that I need to run each day each week and this really helps me to stick to my training plan.

This week I have done 15 miles, I did a 9 mile long run at the beginning of the week, then I have been tapering ahead of my half marathon next weekend. I have done three 2 mile runs at a faster pace, mainly because I have had two Labradors towing me, Pippa and her sister Rosie who needs to the vet said needed to lose a couple of kgs so I offered to run with her and it has really helped with my pace.

Training issues this week

The cold weather, I have found this particularly challenging as being an asthmatic I struggle with my breathing, I have had to take it easy for the first couple of miles until I get my breathing under control.

It has also been icy conditions so not ideal for running, especially with a Labrador who tends to pull you.

Interview with James Kimber from Chester.

Strength and conditioning sessions

I did three in week 1 a total of 1hr 10 mins of body conditioning and 40 minutes of Pilates.

I am following workouts for The Nu You app and I am also taking dumbbell and pilates session from the 20 minute club run by Jo Bridges and there is access to loads of classes on this and its great value for £14.99 a month.

Here is a snippet from Jo’s Instagram account on Dumbbells and which she has given me permission to include in my podcast.

This week I have been cooking food from the Mindful chef, for those of you who have not heard of the mindful chef they delivery boxes with all the ingredients in each week for whichever recipe you have chosen. The ingredients supplied is from local and sustainable producers.

The idea behind The Mindful Chef is getting good quality local produce but also trying to reduce food waste by supplying just enough ingredients for the amount of people eating the dish. When you buy from The Mindful Chef you are also donating to one feeds two, so for my three meals a child has received three free school meals.

They are promoting healthy eating and trying to get people away from quick fix crash diets as they do not work long term and people like myself need a life style change and to change eating habits completely. The idea is to have a smaller portion of meat or fish from a sustainable source and bulk it out with fresh in season local vegetables. There recipes are also gluten-free with no dairy. If you buy meat and fish produce from local suppliers you can check the quality of welfare at these producers, rather than getting a piece of chicken in a supermarket that has been important from South America and you have no idea of how that animal was treated. The main principles are

Less meat but better quality

No Dairy

Natural ingredients, no processed foods, or refined foods or any with added sugars

Grass fed beef, free range chickens, MSC certified fish

All 100% British <
