Sure, in the 1970’s, Italy and the United Kingdom seemed to dominate with the giallos and gothic horror movies. Yet other nations had their genre films too. Spain and Portugal were also prominent and one group of drive-in movies definitely made a mark. In 1972, Spaniard director/screenwriter Amando de Ossorio released the Spaniard/Portuguese film TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD. The movie instantly became a fan favorite for the midnight movie crowd. Its interpretation of the undead felt original when ghosts, vampires, and zombies seemed to be all there was. After its success, three more films in the series were made. The Graveyard Shit Podcast takes a look at these four films and does their retrospective about an interesting group of movies.
When director/writer Yoshimitsu Banno released this kaiju monster film, it almost destroyed his career. His bosses weren’t too happy and they felt the movie may have strayed too far from the franchise’s themes. But the movie is one of the most beloved Godzilla movies and the monster Hedorah turned out to be a fan favorite. Now fifty years later, the movie is considered a beloved classic in the kaiju genre. Wikipedia isn’t worth a dime. I mean, when it comes to politics, biographical information, and various other things, the site is as biased as much as a dog is to a hambone. But it is a source folks check. So when it comes to movies, such as saying which films are horror movies and which are not, we decided to take a look at the source many people check out. Of course there is a difference between horror and let’s say … romantic comedies. But when it comes to horror versus thrillers and science fiction and mysteries, there may be a bit of grey in determining what is what. The main thing is that the Venn diagram says there is overlap. Last year was one crazy year. It caused chaos all over, including at cinemas, theaters, and even drive-in theaters. But there still was a lot of solid horror films that came out. Like many years, most of them were direct-to-video releases. And COVID-19 didn’t affect them since you can just watch them all at your house. Right on your TV. With homemade popcorn and a beer.

We’ve scrambled and finsihed up to see as many 2020 films as we could, especially those last few that were released late December, and we are good to go. True crime is always one of the most fascinating to dissect and interpret. Why does someone do such horrible things? Serial killers have slowly been understood over the years. Most of them have behavioral health issues such as dissocial personality disorders such as psychopathy, sociopathy, borderline personality disorder, or narcissistic personality disorder, or all of them together.
One of the more interesting cases is that of Richard Ramirez, also known as the Night Stalker. He murdered a good many people, as well as doing other various crimes in the California area. The case was world wide news and people were scared in their own homes. Now Netflix has a new mini-series documentary out that talks about the case and the trial. Your co-hosts take a look at this remarkably gruesome serial killer now that his name has resurfaced with this new documentary.
Podcasting sometimes isn’t an exact science. Sometimes you have bad luck. This is actually the second time this show has been put together. The first attempt ended with a file that was became corrupted and alas unusable. So please forgive the delay. It was worth it. Enjoy!
