To day I am speaking with Destiny Jackson, a stylist and hair extensions specialist in Charlotte NC. Destiny is such a boss and she does it all so beautifully.
Destiny is the definition of work less, make more.
So I see something in the industry a lot. Iâm curious if you see it too. There are a lot of successful stylists in the world. That make..letâs call it âgood moneyâ letâs say 10, 15,000, 20/month. Thatâs about $120,000 - 240,000/year. Pretty good. Certainly itâs well above the average because a recent study said that the average monthly income for a hairstylist is 2400.
Hereâs the thing though, some people make that working 6 or 7 days a week. Others make it working 3 days a week.
My brand is called âRich Stylistâ and although most of us think about âRichâ in terms of money, the truth is that Rich (in my dictionary anyway) means rich in time, rich in vitality and health, rich in experiences and freedom. If you are forced to work 6-7 days a week behind the chair to maintain a certain level of income, by my definition, you are not rich - you have a job that pays for your lifestyle and you have traded your life it. Even if you absolutely LOVE what you do working 6 days a week, bc lets be honest, its a great career, but if you looked really close, the truth is your body and health probably suffers and your relationships arenât getting the nurturing they need to thrive.
One of my goals for this podcast is to be able to show you whatâs possible. The way Destiny has designed her business might not be a perfect fit for you - but itâs looks damn good to me. Just like every clientâs hair and goals are different and you must create a custom treatment plan for them, the same goes for you and designing your ideal extension business - thatâs what Rich Stylist Academy shows you how to do.
I really think that Destinyâs business and lifestyle will resonate with you, Iâd call it a family first approach. She really prioritizes time, experiences and freedom with her family AND is able to support that with the income she makes doing high end extensions just a few days a week in the salon.

Michele is a hairstylist of 35 years, she is a salon and boutique owner in Albuquerque NM, a Swarzkopf educator and is now officially launching her luxury hair extension business.
Michele is a stylist who goes all in on anything she sets her mind to. Go big or go home is the definition of Michele, and I LOVE it. Hair extensions are in the spotlight for Michele now, and she has rolled out an exceptional business plan, client experience, and her attention to detail is next to none.
Often we have limiting beliefs about ourselves and what we are capable of doing & achieving in our lifetime. Have you ever said âwell Iâm too young or too old to do that?â Or âthat kind of thing isnât for people like meâ or maybe youâve said something like âIâm not good at learning new thingsâ
All of that is a lie you keep telling yourself, and it is a block that is holding you back from all the things you actually could have and achieve.
Michele is someone who does not let limiting thoughts hold her back! She is the definition of "age is just a number." She isnât afraid even at 35 years into her business, to reinvent her services, her pricing, and her client experience.
Michele really understands that the way to create ultimate freedom via time & money is through hair extensions. Michele has been super successful for years, sheâs been fully booked, sheâs traveled as an educator, she has owned her salon, but now at this point in her career she knew she wanted to niche down and not work with 8, 9, 10, 12 clients a day, but instead give her attention to fewer clients with ultra high end, luxury hair extensions.
Creating freedom through hair extensions is what is possible here. We often say we want more money, but what we really want is time. You can offer different services, charge more for your time, which ultimately helps you make more money in less amount of time, which opens up your time so you can live the life & do and experience the things you really want.
Hair extensions give you limitless opportunity to create the business and have the lifestyle you desire. Michele and I are going to talk all about this & her story now.

I remember when Kali first joined Rich Stylist Academy, she was so enthusiastic about on her dream of doing hair in Hollywood. She moved from a small town to Los Angeles to make her dream a reality. You know how you meet those people and itâs like thereâs just no question that they would be doing exactly what they are doing with their lives? Thatâs Kali.
Kali gives some great advice in this episode and one of those is to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Sheâll talk about it more, but I thatâs such great life advice. Typically what you are most fearful of, it the direction that will push you into your greatness. If you think about some of the most exciting times in your life, whether thatâs professionally or personally, they were most likely times when you felt uncomfortable with the unknown. What Kali has done is sheâs trained her brain to recognize discomfort as a sign that something great is about to happen on the other side.
And with that mindset, even at the very early stages of her career, Kali has made huge strides which is not only attracting her dream opportunities, but also has her making $10,000+ months.
