That's how your company will consistently deliver the best customer service.

Gina Tomlinson is the Director of Business Transformation, Organizational Development & Change at the Jamaica Public Service (JPS). Emotional intelligence accounts for at least 58% of job performance (TalentSmartEQ). It impacts:

✅ Interpersonal relationships

✅ Leadership skills

✅ Stress management

...and many other factors that affect how people work.

Krystal Tomlinson, Founder of The Success Farm Life Academy, had a discussion with us about getting the most value out of emotional intelligence training. It isn't enough to mandate employees complete a few courses and call it a day. There needs to be a system for keeping track of how training impacts improvements in emotional intelligence.

One of the nuggets Krystal shared was that people who have high EQ and lower IQ tend to be better leaders than those who have high IQ and low EQ. Being brilliant and skilled is only half of the job. Knowing how to be aware of your own emotions and those of others makes a huge difference. Applying emotional intelligence is important for workplace success.

Here's more of what Krystal shared about EQ and emotional intelligence training.

00:00 - Intro

01:50 - What Is Emotional Intelligence?

03:55 - How Long Does It Take For People To Develop Emotional Intelligence?

08:14 - Why Did Krystal Go Into Emotional Intelligence Training?

14:03 - How Long Does Emotional Intelligence Training Take?

16:19 - What Are Emotional Intelligence Tools?

22:55 - How To Make Emotional Intelligence Part Of Workplace Culture

33:35 - How To Get New HIres To Be Part Of An Emotionally Intelligent Culture

Employee training isn't a one-size-fits-all strategy. Making online training engaging for employees requires:

  1. Having conversations with them

  2. Prioritising accessible training content

  3. Using various content formats to meet diverse training needs

  4. Making hybrid learning part of your training plan

Chevonnese Whyte shared her thoughts on these four core areas during our discussion. She is an assistant lecturer at the University of the West Indies and she has also lectured at the iCreate Institute and the Vocational Training and Development Institute (VTDI). She's pursuing her PhD in Education and helped with the formation of the Jamaica Animation Society. So, she knows how to make online learning engaging!
