Hi Guys ,

This week amazing special guest of furfilment is Russell Sturgess.

You would wonder what the oldest tarot would have to do with animals. Well, you could almost say there are that many animals in the images you could call it a zoo. Russell Sturgess, the author of the recently published book The Spiritual Roots of the Tarot,The Cathar Code Hidden in the Cards, gives an entertaining and enlightening interview as he reveals their amazing symbolism. Although his book wasn’t oriented towards animals, it turns out that they play a very important role in the Fool’s journey to enlightenment. In many cases they are gate keepers responsible for checking the quality of the Fool’s (Everyman) state of consciousness. Russell also explains what makes this book on tarot so different. Through his years of research (and surprisingly he doesn’t read tarot) he has discovered previously unknown historical details about the origin of the cards. But more specifically it was their original use that most surprising. Fortunetelling with tarot cards didn’t begin until the late 17th century. Created in northern Italy around the late 14th century the cards had a dual role. Its most popular use was card games. But it also held the hidden mysteries of a group of Gnostic/Christians called the Cathars. Following their elimination by the Catholic Church, these portable stain glass windows in the form of picture cards saw that the church did not destroy these sacred teachings.

In this week’s episode we meet Robin who shares how her love for her German Shepherd Max profoundly touched her life. Sadly, Max passed away two weeks after this podcast.   Robin has since explained that when her family unit moved to the Sunshine coast, she found a heart shaped rock in the garden which became pride of place in the room where Max spent most of his time in his elder years.  Like so many of us processing grief and loss, Robin wanted a sign from Max that he was ok on the other side. When Robyn thinks of Max, she continues to find   heart shapes crossing her path in objects as per the photos attached to this podcast link. This interview explores Max’s quirks and is homage to his full life.

This week’s show features a guest who has spent her life valuing the natural world. Meet Vet Dr Sheelin who  shares some of her journey, from her childhood on a beef property in Eidsvold in rural Queensland, to becoming an eco-warrior of sorts, an advocate for sustainable living and the slow food movement, via time spent working as a vet with the intensive dairy and beef feedlot industries in the USA, and the pharmaceutical industries, and then time spent studying in the town of Bra in Italy, where the slow food movement began. A fascinating insight into how much of our food is produced, and how we need to alter the way we think about food and consumerism for the planet, the wildlife, and ultimately, ourselves.
