Welcome to today's edition of Daily in the Word! We will cover Genesis 26:1-35. Does history repeat itself? We're going to handle that question a little bit as we read what seems like a story on repeat. This incident with Isaac happened twice with Abraham, but Isaac either never heard the stories or forgot them altogether. Either way, God continued to bless Isaac and his family.

In the finishing of the story of Abraham's servant getting a bride for Isaac, we will focus in on the faithful love, or loyal love, or covenant love (the Hebrew word is chesed and it's hard to provide a very good English translation) that is on display in this chapter. It is a love that God displayed in His covenant with Abraham and it is a love that He shares for you and I as well! If only we could fully understand the faithful love of God!!

We're delighted you've decided to join us here on Daily in the Word. Today we are in Genesis 14:1-24 which is the story of how Abram rescued Lot from being taken captive by neighboring kings. Abram goes into batlle and wins a decisive victory. We are also introduced to a character by the name of Melchizedek. Though Melchizedek is quite mysterious, he plays an important role in the history of Israel and the coming Redeemer.

This chapter tells the story of Abram and Lot parting ways so their flocks and herds would get plenty of pasture land to feed and their servants wouldn't quarrel with each other. In this part of the story, Noah and his family boards the ark while God has brought all the animals that will be saved onto the ark. Then the account of the floods that come from the sky and from the ground are told. The flood is certainly devastating, having flooded the whole earth for 150 days.

Evil was certainly rampant among the people during this time and in this passage we see that God was very grieved by His creation. So God instituted a plan to remedy the situation.

Welcome to the final edition of Daily in the Word in the Gospel of John! Our passage for today is John 21:15-25. In this portion, Jesus restores Simon Peter after Peter's three denials of Jesus. In doing so, Jesus asks of Peter's love for Christ, also three times, which is not a coincidence. John will also correct a rumor about the second coming of Jesus and then close his Gospel account by declaring his testimony concerning Jesus is absolutely true.

This is a shorter passage because of some of the misunderstanding that can come from the word picture that Jesus provides us. Today's subject is the vine and the branches and, if we are not careful when trying to understand this passage, we'll end up losing our salvation every time. But we must consider that Jesus is teaching His disciples about fellowship, and not salvation. Let's keep that in mind as we dive in!

Welcome to today's edition of Daily in the Word! Today we will be reading from John 7:53 -- 8:11. This is an interesting section of the Gospel for two reasons. First, the story is famous and very compelling -- the woman caught in adultery. Second, this passage is not found in the earliest Greek manuscripts of the Gospel. Most scholars believe it wasn't written by John due to the language and sentence structure not matching the rest of the Gospel. But most conservative New Testament scholars agree that this story is nonetheless true and historical. And therefore it is worthy of belonging to the Canon of Scripture, inspired and infallible just like the rest of the Scriptures -- as do I. Let's study it together!

The religious leaders refused to accept the testimony of John the Baptist, of God the Father, and of the Old Testament prophets, particularly Moses. Their views on the Sabbath were in conflict and they also thought Jesus was blaspheming when He equated Himself with God the Father. This passage also gives us an opportunity to look at a principle of Bible study having to do with the words and how they are used, giving us a clue into how they should be interpreted.

Today on Daily in the Word we dive into the third of Jesus' signs or miracles performed to give evidence of who He is. John will give us seven of these signs through the first half of his Gospel account. This sign that Jesus performs in John 5:1-15, is also somewhat hidden, but the religious leaders find out it was done on the Sabbath and that doesn't sit well with them -- they now have what they think is evidence that Jesus is not from God. Oh how mistaken they were!

Like the changing of the water to wine, this sign is somewhat private as only Jesus, a few people who heard the conversation, and the royal official with his household would have been aware of the miracle.
