I’m Jennessa Durrani. At 10 I was a wide eyed, messy artist child that was limitless in my dreaming. It was then that I created my big dream. I was going to leave my tiny town in the middle of nowhere Iowa and move to the big city to become an interior designer. It was 1981. From that moment on I did everything I needed to do to make that dream a reality. In 1994, after graduating from design school, I drove from Iowa to Massachusetts with $300 in my pocket. I didn't know a soul. But that didn't keep me from landing my dream job as a corporate interior designer. I had made it. I was living that little dreamers dream. But within 10 years, I realized that this was not the profession for me. I had loved it, until I didn’t and I wanted out. But I hadn’t ever dreamt forward. I had no idea where to go from there. It was at that moment that I learned the valuable lesson that we always stand at choice. We can choose to stay where we know we no longer belong. Or we can choose to brave the path forward to live the life we were meant to live. I took the leap without a net and have never looked back. Over the past twenty years I’ve stood at that choice time and time again. Each time, rekindling my relationship with that dreamer deep inside of me. But at the same time, grappling with the constraints of being an adult, a spouse and a parent! As a result, I have learned the art of dreaming big and then implementing small to get me to my life by design. It's that art that I want to share with you each week. I will share my tips, hacks, tricks and ideas on how you can dream big and implement small to make the most of your busy days. To lift your dreams out of the in-between and make space for you. And I’m going to do it in 20 minutes or less, because seriously, who has the time to listen to any more than that! So listen along while you take your walk, fold the laundry, sit in the school pick up line. You do you! I promise to keep it light, actionable and most importantly...doable. We've got this my friends! Join me…join us as we get there together.

"The delights of self-discovery are always available." --Gail Sheehy
Do you have a propensity for rest while you watch everyone race around you?
Do you have more ideas then you know what to with them?
Do you every feel out of alignment...with everything and everyone?
In my ongoing exploration into my own self discovery, I stumbled upon Human Design and was so floored with the information that I learned, that I had to invite Heather Vickery onto the podcast to talk all things Human Design. And believe me, there is a lot!
Human Design is a psychological concept and system of self-discovery that combines ancient and modern sciences to create a unique energetic blueprint for each person. The blueprint, or "design", is decoded using a person's birth data and can be represented by a complex diagram called a Human Design chart.
Human design combines astrology, I Ching, and the Chakras...so if you like all things woo and are open to learning more about YOU, then this is the episode for you!
Heather's Bio:
Heather Vickery is an achiever of unrealistic dreams. The transformational success coach and celebrated public speaker leverages over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience to help her clients master the “Trifecta of Self” knowing, liking and trusting themselves so they can elevate, expand, and grow. Through this process, clients learn to authentically like and trust themselves, leading to inspired, authentic action in both personal and professional realms. As an accomplished author, Broadway producer, and podcast host, Heather's work resonates globally, promoting everyday bravery and self-empowerment. She’s the co-host of Was it Chance? The podcast about taking intentional risk for creative success. And best-selling author of FCK FEARLESS: Making The Brave Leap*.

"If you listen to your body when it whispers, you don't have to listen to it when it screams."
I don't know about you, but I can't open Instagram, Facebook, or my newsfeed without seeing the word SOMATIC. There is somatic yoga, somatic workouts, somatic therapy, etc. So when I met Sara Vatore, a somatic and peak performance coach, last fall I knew I needed to have her on the podcast.
As it turns out, SOMA means the body and these "new to me" modalities are all about getting in tune with our bodies so that we can heal--emotionally, spiritually and physically. I don't know about you, but I spend WAY much time thinking about my body and all of its flaws, but I very little time on actually listening to her.
In this episode we dig into powerful, but simple ways, to get in tune with our bodies and all that's possible in the way of health, wellness, and healing when we are in alignment. Sara shared so many actionable tidbits! We actually spoke for an hour, but we lost the last 20 minutes, so if we stop short, you know why!
Sara's Bio:
Sara Vatore (Vator-EE), is the owner of Somasynthesis Studios, where she creates spaces for healing, integration and expansion to cultivate wellness, vitality, thriving and wholeness across all layers of being. Through 1-1 Somatic and Peak Performance Coaching, hands-on-healing, Somatic Integration Sessions, nervous system nourishment retreats and group workshops, and more, Sara supports leaders, entrepreneurs, and busy humans to expand their capacity to be in the flow of life and business with more ease without overwhelm or burnout to access their potential. Sara lives in Belchertown, Massachusetts with her husband and 2 boys.

"Transferable skills turn your past experience into your future asset." Hana Dhanji
It does not matter if you have been with the same company for 10 years or 25, or have taken a hiatus and are wanting to return to work. Changing direction can be daunting. We become experts at what we've been doing for so long, that we no longer see the value in our experience and our talents. We find it hard to see how we can go and do something else. What could we possibly provide a new employer?
TONS! That's what. You are teeming with transferable skills that you can throw into your toolbox and take anywhere you go!
In today's Surviving to Thriving Podcast, we talk about the unsexy topic of transferable skills:

"HOW does not have a place at the table when we are in dream mode." -Jennessa Durrani
Have you ever been walking down the street and all of a sudden you trip…over nothing? You look down sure you will see a hole, rock, or a crack in the sidewalk, and there is nothing. That can be what life feels like at times. We are just walking towards our goal, minding our own business, when we get stuck. When we trip over an invisible block.
It's these seemingly invisible blocks that I dig into in this episode. The three most prevalent blocks that stand in our way that I've renamed HOWard. HOWard be his name, and we have no time for him and his nonsense. In today's Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I will review the steps we need to take to get over, under, and through HOWard and his invisible blocks and:
If you are ready to finally see these blocks for what they are and navigate them once and for all, then this is the episode for you!

"Before everything else, getting ready is the secret to success." -Henry Ford
One of the most heard quotes from the women in my world is, "Jennessa, I'm not ready...not yet." I'm sure you can relate. There is likely something that you've been batting around in the back of your mind that you are going to "take on", but right now you just aren't ready. The thing is that we don't have a handle on what ready even looks like. When will the time be right? What needs to be in place? How do we get to ready?
"Not ready" is a default mode that is neutral. That is keeping us stuck. In this week's episode, I help you shift out of default mode, and shift into "getting ready" one incredibly small step at a time!
In today's Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I will give you a 5 step framework to shift into "getting ready" using these tools:
If you are ready to take an active role in your life and start moving towards ready, then this is the episode for you!

“To change our circumstances, we need to change our story: edit it, modify it, or completely rewrite it. ” --Harold R. Johnson
As Harold R. Johnson said, "We are all story. We are the stories we are told and we are the stories we tell ourselves." Now who doesn't love a good story. An origin story. A comeback story. A harrowing tale. But when these stories become so engrained. So much a part of us that we can not see them for what they really are they bind us. They keep us stuck right where we are. Why do some stories hurt? Why do some stories stay with us for years and years? This is where we explore in this week's podcast episode.
In today's Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I will illustrate how our stories are keeping us stuck and 6 steps to release ourselves from their binds, as well as:
If you are ready to retire your outdated narrative and begin a new chapter, then this is the episode for you!

"It's not the mountain that we conquer, but ourselves." -Edmund Hillary
Our words, thoughts and images do not describe our reality, they are creating it. Read that again. Let it sink in. Our state of mind, our thoughts, our internal dialogue, the stories that we believe to be true about ourselves, is keeping us in our current reality.
The only way we can change our reality, is to change our thoughts, our inner self talk, the images that we have, and our belief system. It's simple, but not easy. But it's absolutely amazing to think that by putting into place simple mindset changes that we can change our world. And I've got the starting point for you!

"No matter where you are from, your dreams are valid." -Lupita Nyong'O
I say that the women that I work with are at the intersection of oh crap and oh yeah. Oh yeah I am ready to pursue a new start (excited), but oh crap I don't know where to begin (terrified). Can you relate? I think this intersection is where the magic happens. Where you can play and dream. But only if you let yourself go there. Otherwise, you are bound to get stuck!
I believe that everyone has available to them right now everything they need to create their next chapter, they just need help teasing it out. In my signature ignitHER program I have dozens of exercises that I facilitate to help each student's discovery. In this episode I share 3 of my favorite dream exercises to help you get started!

"Words and images do not describe our reality, they define it."
Do you find yourself feeling like nothing is going right? Life intervenes at every turn? We've been conditioned for years to be in busy mode. Making sure everyone is cared for. Every fire is put out. Every whim is attended to. We have been in effect of everyone and everything while we use busy as a badge of honor.
I've recently begun a new certification program that is all based on Neuro Linguistic Programming which is like the lost user manual for our brains. And one of the first techniques I have learned is a powerful empowerment formula C > E, or Cause is greater than Effect and I want to lay it all out for you as it's a game changer to get us to finally break busy.

Happy New Year my friend! Everywhere you look this week is talking about starting fresh, starting over, clean slate. And I'm with you. I'm ready to start new, BUT let's celebrate the ending of 2023 FIRST. Even if you didn't feel like it, you've grown significantly over the past year. You have learned valuable lessons. "Don't underestimate the power of a pause. It allows you to recharge and refocus."
We have been grinding for nearly 365 days to get to this place right here, right now. If you are like me you are torn between "I want to sleep for a year" and "I can't wait to put this year behind me and move forward." But our best bet is to lean into the pause. To give ourselves the space and time to rest, recharge...to pause. By doing so we can start to see what's most important and where we truly want to go next.
There are times like these that are natural pauses, but what is the impact that we can create in our lives if we were to intentionally build in pauses daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly?
In today's Surviving to Thriving Podcast, we talk about:
If you are feeling torn between rest and leaping, take a few minutes to listen to this episode to get intentional tools to set you up for success.

"Visualization is daydreaming with a purpose." -Bo Bennett
Throwing out ideas, initiatives and goals is the easy part. Getting them over the finish line is the near impossible part. I talk a lot about daily practices and actions and breaking big into little as tactical measures to help us succeed. They serve as the "push" we need to stay on the course. But they alone will not get us through the hard times when we just plum lose our energy and our steam. What we need is a "pull" to be our backup when willpower and discipline fall to the wayside.
This week I share my framework for visualizing our success to create that "pull" that we need. That visceral connection to our goal that we must create out of our intuition and not our of our heads.
In today's Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I walk you through my framework for creating a solid visualization of you AFTER you have reached your goal and how to use that to create a failproof action plan, including:

"It's not the load that breaks you down. It's how you carry it." -Lou Holtz
My first year as a solopreneur I sold 750 home baked gift boxes. The year that my oldest son was born, I not only delivered 700+ gift boxes, but also published my fourth cookbook with my mom. He was 5 weeks old. Add in the fact that we are a multicultural family. Believe you me, I get how stressful the holidays are!
I had to learn early on how to streamline, delegate, and align our holiday festivities and traditions to what matters most for us as a family.
As the mom we have taken on the primary role of planning, buying and executing every aspect of our holidays and want them to be PERFECT. As a result, we sacrifice our sleep, our sanity, and our valuable time to do it all.
It's not sustainable my friend. Eventually you will become resentful of the holidays and everyone around you.
Today on the Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I want you to see how you can reduce the stress, increase your sleep, and 10x your enjoyment of the holidays!
Just because the holidays have always been crazy, hectic and/or a nightmare, does not mean that is how they must continue. You have it in your power to make this your ideal holiday season!

"The best view comes after the hardest climb." --Benjamin Franklin
As moms we have been in survival mode for so long that we can’t even see it for that. It’s just become our natural state. As a result, we are prone to being stuck and blaming ourselves for our inability to get ourselves going. But this week we talk about how survival mode is not only dictating how we treat ourselves body, mind, spirit, and place, but also how we do our holidays. If we want to thrive in the holidays, we must first identify where we are just surviving. Where we have been dragging traditions along just because. And stop and just think about how we can do things differently.
If turning the calendar to December sends you into a fit of twitches and makes you want to curl up in a ball and hide until January, then this is the episode for you.
Today on the Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I challenge you to look at your holiday and family traditions with a new lens. To really look at what it includes and why you continue to include them.
I want you to think of your holidays as a trip you are packing for each year. Feel free to bring along all that are must haves, and feel just as comfortable leaving behind what no longer fits.

Doing less is often harder than doing more.
Do you see the holidays fast approaching and start to hyperventilate? Are you exhausted just thinking about all the "extra" that is the holiday season? We have conditioned ourselves to believing that if we are not exhausted, overdrawn, overextended, and going out of our minds to make everything PERFECT, then we are failing as a mom.
STOP! The answer to having a memorable holiday season of more hugs, more smiles, more memories, and more gratitude, is to do less. Yes...less.
If you can't even imagine a restful holiday, then this is the episode for you.
Today on the Surviving to Thriving Podcast, I share a simple exercise to reevaluate your family holiday traditions and "right size" them to what matters most to you and those you love:
Gone are the days of more is more is more for the holidays. What our families want is more of US. More of our time, attention and presence, not presents. So listen in to see how you can deliver!

"When you are in alignment with the desires of your heart, things have a way of working out. " --Iyanla Vanzant
I am obsessed with competition shows like Amazing Race, Project Runway and Top Chef--I have seen every episode…twice! What I love is seeing how everyone approaches a challenge. How they have moments to decide what they are going to do and then actually follow through.
Reflecting on Top Chef I have pulled together my 5 biggest lessons learned that, when put into practice, help us get our life back into alignment.
Today on the Surviving to Thriving Podcast, we'll talk about:

"It's time to get your poop in a group." --Cindy Molgaard (my mom)
Starting is hard, but starting over is even harder. When we have let our practices, routines and projects languish it is really hard to get back into the swing of things. We are so tied to what we "used to" be able to--I used to run 5 miles a day without thinking. I used to meditate 30 minutes every day, I used to be the first one into the office. But that was the old bar and if we can't let that go we will never start again.
In this episode I go through the seven steps of getting your poop in a group as my mother would say and how to restart any practice, routine, or project to get you onto the road for success

"The best proof of love is trust." --Joyce Brothers
Trust is a crucial component to any relationship. If you don’t trust someone, then you can’t connect. You can’t work together. You can’t grow and appreciate one another. We focus so much on trusting those around us, that we rarely see the mistrust we have with ourselves.
I talk a lot about the fact that we control what we do not trust. We orchestrate. We create rules. We dictate situations where we do not trust. Where are we doing that in our own life?
Where are we creating disorder, to keep order? In this episode, I talk about how I have come to a place of overcoming my disorder around food and now how I am using the same process to trust myself and Universe around money so that I can live more fully in my life with peace of mind. I give you four questions to identify your mistrust and four steps to regain it again. Let’s go.

"An addiction to distraction is the end of your creative production." --Robin Sharma
Did you know that it takes 23 minutes on average to get resettled into a task after even a 5 minute interruption?
Now think of how many times, as a mom, you are distracted each day. About 3 million times. So it’s no wonder that we can’t ever make progress on initiatives…especially those focused on ourselves.
Making sure that we are taking care of every stakeholder in our life before us keeps us firmly in survival mode. We are great at surviving and keeping the balls in the air. But what can we do to create space for us and keep the distractions at bay? That’s where we are headed today my friends. Let’s go.

"Make peace with your broken pieces." --r.h. Sin
A few weeks ago I shared photos from an event I did and I received an email from one of the women who attended pleading with me not to post the photo of her. She said that when she saw it, it made her cry.
This is not an isolated incident. I’ve really paid attention to this concept over the past few weeks, and it’s a topic that pops up almost daily. Hating on ourselves. Looking at ourselves with disgust. And feeling like we don’t even recognize that person anymore. Here’s the thing my friend. You are in there! You are beautiful. You are strong. You are powerful. And that’s what those that love you, see in the same photo. But you are just allowing yourself to fade away. And it’s time to take a stand. Let’s sort through the photos together. Let’s go.

"I am the biggest obstacle to my dreams." --Craig D. Lounsbrough
I have yet to find a mom who does not identify as a perfectionist. Even those that swear they aren’t are really just in denial. For so long we have been in survival mode. Putting our head down and getting it done. Let me just get through today, this week, this month…sound familiar? When you combine perfectionism with survival you get a perfect storm of all or nothing.
We’re either giving it our absolute all, or we are binging the next season of our favorite show. We are either eating only green juice, and fasting 18 hours, or eating to abandonment all weekend.
All or nothing.
And as a result, we are averaging out to exhaustion, shame, and disappointment. But what would living in a state of moderation or neutral look like? In this episode, I layout the dangers of what we are considering self-care in survival mode, and I give my strategies on shifting to thriving and how that changes our perspective on how we approach our work, our health, our movement, and our peace of mind. Let’s go.

"The best way to change the world is in concentric circles: start with yourself and work your way out from there." --James Clear
I can’t tell you how many times a week women say, “I’ve tried that…it just doesn’t work?” Or, “I was doing so well, and then I fell down.” Or, “I so desperately want to lose weight, get stronger, find new work, connect more with friends, try new things, (whatever) but…I can’t seem to follow through.”
We all have our list of I Can’t statements. Things that everyone else seems to be able to do, but we just can’t. That’s because we have been focusing on trying to build new skills without honing our foundational skills. When really we need to go up stream and understand what is keeping us from making good choices. What do we need to do to keep from becoming overwhelmed, over tired, over scheduled, and stressed. Because those things my friend are what are keeping us from being successful, not the lack of the “right” program. In this episode, I give you the 5 skills that everyone needs to hone to build their foundation for long term success in their personal development journey. Let’s go.

"Values are like lighthouses; they are signals giving us direction, meaning, and purpose."
"Just do it" is a famous tag line and is meant to be motivating. But when I see that it just exhausts me. If I wanted to do it, I would have done it already. I need something different to get me started and more importantly, to keep me going. Each of us has a set of values, or key motivators, that when dangled like a carrot will get us going and continue to push us to succeed. Having them is like cracking the code. For me I am an aesthetic, individualist, and altruist. Which means I am motivated by situations where I can create or appreciate beauty, balance and harmony, be my authentic self, while helping others. Now look at the work that I do in the world my friends. I am in alignment. As a result, it seems easy.
We don’t have to be competitive. We don’t have to be pushed by others. We don’t have to white knuckle through a situation. We can do hard things when we are motivated by what is in our innate nature. In this episode, I outline the seven core values and several ways to understand which align with you and how to leverage them both personally and professionally. Let’s go!

"Asking for help is giving others an invitation to participate in your life." --Jennessa Durrani
For years my husband and boys would wake me up to treat me to the most unnaturally colored flower arrangement, a carrot cake (my favorite before I gave up flour and sugar), and chocolates that they loved. And then would take me out to dinner at a restaurant that the boys would love for my birthday, Valentine’s Day and mother’s day.
It was sweet. It was well intentioned. But it was what they wanted and did not align at all with what I wanted. And that was just the beginning of misalignment in motherhood. The long days of wanting and needing help and not receiving it. Feeling resentful that my husband is not seeing that I need something.
And then one day Dr. Phil helped me see the error of my ways. The solution was simple. To self-advocate. But that is far from easy, but it is imperative to healthy relationships and honestly to our sanity. I give you all the permission in this week’s episode to ask for what you need as we go into Mother’s Day. Let’s go.

"Procrastination is like a credit card: it's fun until you get the bill." --Christopher Parker
Are you like me and always saying that you don’t need more time, you just need a deadline? Are you always intending to do something, but can’t bring yourself to do it? Are you beating yourself up thinking you are lazy because you can’t get things done?
Stop right there.
You are not lazy.
You are not broken.
You are procrastinating and we all do it.
We procrastinate when we are trying to avoid things that are uncomfortable. We put off tasks when we don’t have all the answers, when it requires us to do new things that are unfamiliar. We put off what’s hard. It’s natural. We are built for survival. In this episode I break down why we procrastinate…like why I put off recording this episode on procrastination for two weeks. And I give you 5 tips on getting to the other side of procrastination. So let’s go!

"Comfortable shoes and the freedom to leave are two of the most important things in life." --Shel Silverstein
Do you remember quitting your first job? Or your second, or third. I really don’t. I’ve blocked out the experiences because quitting is traumatic. Quitting is awkward. Quitting means we are letting people down. We are showing that we can’t do it all.
Or is it?
Why can’t quitting be viewed as opening us up to new opportunities. Why can’t quitting be viewed as self-care? Why can’t quitting be the best darn thing we ever did?
This week I dissect the old adage that quitters never win and help you see that quitting is just the beginning! Let’s go.

"Make incremental progress, change comes not by the yard, but by the inch" --Rick Pitino
When you decide to do something do you go head first in with every ounce of your being? Are you the queen of starting and then fizzle fast?
You are a perfectionist my friend. And that’s how we do things.
We either go all in and do it BIG or we don’t do it at all. And as a result, we hold off all initiatives for ourselves until the perfect time. We let ourselves down on the regular because we just can’t follow through. This week I want you to see that you can do so much more, by committing to do less. By making everything so easy that it would be impossible not to follow through. It’s so simple it’s ridiculous. Let’s go.

"To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don't wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now." --Alan Cohen
We are the queens of saying, Once this happens, then I can…
Once I can run a mile, then I can replace these old shoes.
Once I get good at drawing, then I can buy the pencils I need.
Once I lose weight, then I can buy clothes that I love.
Once my kids going to school, I can find work that I love.
Everything is dependent on how you finish. And in essence you are punishing yourself along the way. And as a result, we are in a loop of discouragement, because we don’t have the tools and the love for ourselves in the process.
Life is not a race with a finish line. Why can’t we prepare for the journey, and not be so focused on a nebulous conclusion. Why can’t we give ourselves what we need to feel whole, confident, and loved by ourselves now. Why do we need to wait until someday…that’s what I dive into this week. How can we love ourselves unconditionally as we journey through our personal development. Let’s go.

"We either live with intention or exist by default." --Kristin Armstrong
Have you ever been driving and all of a sudden, it’s like you wake up and think…where am I? And more times than not, when you do realize where you are, you are not where you had planned to go!
Why? Because we are living on auto pilot.
We are caught up in the busy and the drama of meeting everyone else’s needs, that we aren’t living intentionally. We aren’t present. Using the power of intention helps us slow down. It helps us keep our actions in line with our values and priorities. "When you do the practice the faith will come." --Rabbi Dawn Rose
I started practicing Islam in 1999 with my first Ramadan fast, but I didn’t set foot into a mosque for nearly 10 years because I was terrified.
Terrified because I had no idea what to do there. I didn’t look the part. I felt like an imposter. I had so many questions and no one to ask them to. But once I saw my religion as a practice that I could hone. One that I could get incrementally stronger in with each day, I took the first scary step into the mosque and it was there that I started to connect to my faith, and my confidence grew.
It’s not by accident that I’ve created a community called A Daily Practice. I share the story of how I came to embrace practice in every aspect of my life and what a difference it has made for me. Baby steps my friends, they are magical. Let’s go.

"I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing." --Louise Hay
Recently a friend told me that there are people that don’t have an internal dialogue playing on repeat in their heads. I still don’t believe her, and I have a flash mob of thoughts and criticisms going on in my head on the regular. I think I’m more the norm than the outlier.
We are AMAZING at negative self-talk especially the kind where we think we are being constructive. We are hating on our bodies, sure that everyone is seeing every flaw, and are never pleased enough with how every aspect of our life is currently.
How is that working for us? Are we any closer to being a fully nourished, whole, and loved individual? I don’t think so. Instead, we need to affirm all that we are. All our superpowers, our gifts, and our strengths. We need to love ourselves unconditionally.
But how? I give you all the tools today. Let’s go.

When I am asked my favorite season, I immediately respond Fall, because I LOVE me some sweater weather. Or so that’s what I convinced myself of for years. You can change jobs a dozen times to escape the overwhelm, but every one of them is going to stress you out until you uncover the underlying patterns that you are holding onto. "Less Perfection. More Authenticity."
What’s your standard response to “How are you?” Mine is groovy. It always elicits a fun response and it deflects anyone from asking follow on questions and allows me to avoid answering the question truthfully. Because A.) they don’t really want to know how I am. And B.) I’m not about to go there. For most of us, when asked our initial response is “fine” and while it sounds good on the outside, as we are saying it we are mentally listing all the things that are clearly NOT fine right now.
This is the misalignment of our inner authentic selves with the outer official selves that we put on display. The one that wants you to see a confident and amazing mom, partner, volunteer and employee when really in side we are just keeping our heads above water. It’s time we stop saying, “I’m fine.” when we clearly aren’t, and start doing the work to pump up the volume in our authentic selves. That’s where we are headed in this week’s episode.

"No one is you and that is your super power."
I’ve always thought my best self as being me before children. That self that was living her dream as a big city designer a million miles from home. But this week I had a big aha moment when I realized that my before motherhood self did not take care of herself. Was not whole. But what she did have was the ability to make decisions with only herself in mind. And that is actually what I’m missing. That is the next step in living a thriving life…let’s get started.

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." --Maya Angelou
Are you ready to take the first tiny step forward to you…away from just surviving, turning yourself to the light of thriving? It can be overwhelming and aggravating since we are inclined to be seekers of instant gratification, but just declaring that you are ready to begin in the first step. In this episode we work together to create your blueprint for your best self. One that is confident, aware, rested, energized, and alive. It’s time that you stop living in the tiny cracks left over after taking care of everyone else’s needs first. So let’s go.
Step 2 is declaring your new journey forward and sharing it with one person. I'm always happy to be your person! jennessa@jennessadurrani.com

"Surviving is important. Thriving is elegant." --Maya Angelou
When we become moms we are sure that we’ve got this. And quickly realize that we don’t got this! Every ounce of our being goes into keeping that little human alive, happy, and protected and as a result, we shift into survival mode for ourselves. Showering occasionally and eating the scraps left on their high chairs becomes normal, along with the thought that tomorrow will be different and that becomes our mantra. Next thing you know you are 6,000+ tomorrows later and you are still just surviving…and still sure that tomorrow will be better than today. But nothing is going to change until we see what “just surviving” is costing us, so that we can see why doing the hard work to focus on ourselves is not a nice to have. It’s imperative.

"Write it on your heart, and every day is the best day of the year." Ralph Waldo Emerson
New year. New you. New word?
Are you searching for the perfect word to embody all the sweeping changes you're going to make in your life?
Have you made an incredible vision board articulating all that you hope to achieve?
If so, that's great, but I would love for you to just take a moment to think of it in a different way instead of choosing a word, letting the word choose you.
Really tapping into your intuition is a much more compelling way of doing vision boards so that you can get to what you want, not what your mind wants, in the new year.
This is a process that can be done monthly, quarterly, yearly, and every time you need to ask yourself what you really need. It's a fun process, and I promise you will get on the other side to an intention that actually matters to you.

"Our intention creates our reality." --Wayne Dyer
Happy New Year, my friend. Are you already overwhelmed with all the big changes you're going to make in your life? How many resolutions have you already made and broken? Probably all of them. You're normal. This week I talk about how we are going to make goals that stick and what that secret ingredient is. It is setting our intention as well as premeditating all of our obstacles and breaking the freaking journey down into the tiniest of steps. These are critical aspects needed to move the needle forward in your life so that you can find your meaning AND your energy and feel whole once again.

We are conditioned to believe that January 1st is when we need to hit the ground running and go, go, go. And I want you to stop, curl up, and start connecting with yourself. Stop rushing and complicating things that need time to breathe and grow. Like YOU!
It's our 50th episode, my friend. How in the world did we get to this place? I am over the moon to be able to have 50 episodes under my belt, under our belt, and thank you for being here, for all of them. So this week it's all about taking 10 minutes to come back to your breath. There are huge benefits of spending just 10 minutes a day for you in a way that is meditative. And in this episode, I talk about the fact that meditating does NOT mean sitting cross-legged on the floor, trying to clear your mind of all of its clutter and what the downfalls are when we do not take time for ourselves to leave the chaos behind.

"Reminder: we don't have to continue holiday traditions that leave us broke, overwhelmed, and tired." --Rachel Jonat
The holidays are bananas. We have high expectations of ourselves and others as we try to connect and make it perfect. Trying to be all things to all people and making everything big is exhausting. We have an opportunity to make things simpler so that we can make more meaningful connections. That's what I talk about this week. How we might re-look at all of what we're trying to shove into this month, spread it out and make it more meaningful and find opportunities to really reconnect with those that we love and care about.

We can make ourselves insane by trying the same solution to an ongoing problem with no results. But before we go insane, we typically just give up trying. This week I give the four simple steps that I use to design an effective solution to any problem.
I also talk about how we can use these steps, with modification, to solve snafus within the house and family. I share specific examples within my own life that I am currently using the process on!

On a regular basis, my laptop comes to a screeching halt. It becomes more of an Etch-A-Sketch or a brick then a computer and it's all due to the fact that I have it stretched to it's max with 72 browser windows open along with every application. I call in my IT guy aka my husband for him to consult and the answer is always the same, "Have you turned it off and turned it back on again?"
Um no.
And darn him, it works every time.
That's what we need to do in our own lives. This week I give my four steps on rebooting yourself to start fresh.

"Sometimes we create our own heartache through expectations."
Years ago, after a grueling day in the kitchen on Thanksgiving day, I had a huge heartbreak...a complete melt down. And while in the moment I blamed it on everyone but me, I quickly realized that my expectations were to blame. It was me. Not them. This week I tell the whole story and give me insight on how leading with intention into the holidays, not expectations, will make for a much more joyful experience.

"Starve your distractions, feed your focus."
In last week's episode I talk about how busy does not equate productive and neither of them determine your worth. In the discussion I noted that I use a ticker file as the number one tool in my arsenal to keep me focused on what matters most in any given moment. It's a tool that I have been using daily for the past 15+ years. As promised, this week I dove into how I came to use this method, why lists are just keeping us in a state of overwhelm, and how using a tickler file can change your life!

"It's not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about." -Henry David Thoreau
A discussion last week with a busy working mom stopped me in my tracks when she said that she would rest when she was 6 feet under. It hit me because I used to be her. Heck there are days that I'm still her. I love me a productive day where I am getting so many things done. It's addictive actually. But is it serving me? Spoiler: it is not. This week I dig into how we got into the hamster wheel of busy and how we can (and must) get out. For our sakes and the sakes of those we love.

"To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart." -Phyllis Theroux
A year ago, a friend of mine from growing up joined the Daily Practice and my Inner Circle and in one of our first gatherings mentioned in passing that she had made a card for her daughter at college, every single week that she was away. She downplayed it, because it was easy and natural for her…thoughtfulness is her super power. For so many of us, we downplay our superpowers because they come so easy to us but are marveled at by others.
The power of her story and her project is what inspired my new Happy Mail Circle and I had to have Pam and her daughter Anna join me to tell you their story themselves. Get the Kleenex out my friends, it’s amazing. Which is about all I say through the entire episode.
I hope you love this story as much as I did. I don’t think you can listen to this story and not believe by the end that the written word is powerful. It connects. It touches. It empowers. And it is so easy to deliver. I would love for you to join the Happy Mail Circle to up your own happy mail practice. "We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing". -George Bernard Shaw
Last year one comment made by a cranky gentleman killed the joy of Halloween for my oldest. It really got me thinking about how we have been conditioned to put the play things away and get to business at a very young age. As a result, there is less joy in the world. We need to play. As parents we need to promote play. As the adult we need to take time to play ourselves! Just for the fun of it. For the joy. For the practice. This week I break it all down and challenge you to prove me wrong when it comes to play!
As promised in the episode, here are a few links for simple ways to play that are not time consuming, not expensive, and with minimal supplies!

"If it's not a hell yes, then it's a hell no."
Last week we talked about praise and how addictive it can be. It's this need for praise that gets us in to trouble every time we are approached to do something that we don't want to do. Each time someone says, "But you would be ah-mazing at this..." we can't help but agree and jump at the chance. In this week's episode I go through a quick 10 minute exercise on creating your HELL YES statement. One that you can use as a filter for the next time Mary dares to say how awesome you will be chairing the next neighborhood block party.

"The woman who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared individual on the planet." -Mohadesa Najumi
When we were little messy artist children our parents, teachers and family use to hand out praise like it was going out of style. But over the years it was only given for what "they" felt was important. This caused us to chase the ventures that gave us the most praise and in many cases give up what we loved. This search for validation outside of us has formed out lives, informed our parenting, and is keeping us stuck in place.
This week I break it all down. Why we need it. How we give it. And How I think we need to stop looking for it so that we can finally move forward to our what's next. My suggestion to get you curious again!

"A mind dump is a way to declutter your mind." --Jennessa
Are you like me and wake up in a full on panic at 3 AM when there is just too much banging around in our heads? And nothing is scarier than our worries in the middle of the night. This happens when we have filled our minds to the brim and we can't make order of any of it! My solution is to do a mind dump to declutter or minds and then mind maps to pull out all of our amazing ideas and get an action plan into place.
I break down both processes in this episode. The first within our fall theme of CURIOSITY: Playing in the Space of What's Possible. Join A Daily Practice to explore this fall!

"You become what you consistently practice."
This summer I was determined to draw a line in the sand and move forward at molding my boys into independent humans. They had depended on me for EVERYTHING for too long and it was time to push them from the nest. That required me to increase MY awareness, acknowledge the role I was playing in keeping them dependent, letting go of perfectionism and then put the pieces into place to create daily practices and routines for them that would serve them for years to come.
It wasn't pretty. It is still a work in progress. And we have a long way to go. But in this episode, I share where we started, what we did, what worked and didn't, where we are, and what's next. And from those lessons learned, I cull together four key strategies that everyone needs to create long lasting daily practices in their own lives.

"Success is where preparation and opportunity meet." --Bobby Unser
I'm a planner. Like deep within me...at my core, I am a planner.
I've worked as a space planner, event planner, strategic planner...road trip planner. You name it, I have a plan for it.
And while planning is important. It's not enough. Not enough to keep us moving forward.
Yes, we need to know where we are pointing. We need to anticipate the potential roadblocks. But preparation is where the magic happens.
We need to build our skills and practices so that we can actually act on our plans. We need to be agile for when our plans fall apart. And we have to stay curious and alert...all that comes with preparation.
That's what this week's episode is all about. How we can leverage both planning AND preparation to get us to success.

"Trust is the first step to love." --Munshi Premchand
Parenting is hard.
These kids of ours don't come with user manuals and every time we think we have them figured out, they regress, mature, grow, and change and it's like we are back to square one all over again.
For years, I've been operating as a caring, nurturing, supportive mom that is always there to fill in the gaps and keep them going. One that played peacekeeper, interpreter, and chief negotiator.
Or so I thought.
But this summer, I flipped the script and started a new initiative.
The Summer of Independence.
This was geared at making my kids less dependent on me.
To step up.
To start doing their fair share.
Because this mama is tired in this role.
But the first lesson that I learned that I was not playing the role I thought I was. I was making life way harder than I was making it easier...for everyone.
This is a raw look at where I have been falling down, but I feel strongly that I need to start here in sharing with you the lessons learned this summer.

"Happiness is not ready made. It comes from your own actions." --Dalai Lama
Have you tapped into your reservoir of joy?
Or are you constantly seeking happiness?
In this episode I lay out how I see happiness and joy. One is something we look and seek from outside forces and the other is at our core and available for us to tap into at any moment.
One is fleeting, where the other is everlasting.
Both have a place in our lives, but we need to focus our energy on the one that will provide us the longest payout. And how can we tap into our joy?
1.) Get quiet.
2.) Stop comparing.
3.) Be grateful.
Join me as we dig into this topic and give you tangible steps to start turning your perspective to the joy within you!
I also discuss The Book of Joy, which I highly recommend!

"Ask for help. Not because you are weak. But because you want to remain strong." --Les Brown
There are three reasons that we are hesitant to ask for the help that we need. That we deserve. That we are always willing to give.
1.) We do not want to appear weak. We can do it all.
2.) It's just easier to do it ourselves...the right way, the first time.
3.) We assume that others will see that we need help and will offer it.
In this episode I break each of these down with the bottom line--asking for help is giving an invitation for others to participate in our lives. And oh yeah, you can do ANYTHING, but you can't do EVERYTHING.
Join me in this episode where I share lots of personal tidbits about the boys and how we are all learning to self-advocate!

"People don't take trips, trips take people." --John Steinbeck
In 2007, Sam and I threw Zain into the backseat with a pile of books and a mountain of snacks, along with a very primitive GPS and set out sights on the Outer Banks. Not trusting his driving, I took the wheel and the rest is history. We've easily traveled 70K+ miles as a family over the last 15 years and have many a story to tell and tried and true tricks to make it more fun, easier and more manageable. So when a listener recently asked if I had a road trip podcast I said, no, but I will now!
In this episode I walk through why in the world we have chosen to travel this way--the practical and the "spiritual", how we pack, how we plan, what we eat, where we stay, etc.
In 2015 I did a web series on our road trips and talk about them in this episode. If nothing else, you can see my boys being boys and me 160 pounds heavier!
How to survive a road trip! (series teaser video)
"Are we there yet?" (ideas for keeping kids entertained)
"I'm hungry!" (ideas on snacks)
"Mom! Where are my pants?" (ideas on packing)
Have questions on planning your next road trip? Send them my way at jennessa@jennessadurrani.com and I'll share the answers with everyone.

"Create space to simply "be" and clarity emerges for you to see." --Gabriella Goddard
We are always advocating for our children assuring that they aren't overscheduled (mostly) and creating margin within their lives. We make sure they are cared for, nurtured, eating well, and getting to bed on time.
But do we turn that caring spirit towards ourselves? Nope.
We are constantly in doing mode. As doing is our superpower. But eventually we will break. 100% chance of crumbling if we don't learn to stop, retreat, and breathe. Not tomorrow, not later today, not next season. In. The. Moment.
That's what I talk about today with three clear take away action items to start feeling relief today!

"One day, or day one? You decide."
How often have you said, "I'll do that tomorrow...tomorrow will be the day." Or in the summer. Or in the New Year. Or when the kids get back into school.
Someday is not a day of the week.
The key to success is realizing that doing a little bit every day, is way more effective then waiting for the day when you can do it all in one sitting.
That day will never come. This episode talks about how we need to stop waiting for the perfect time and making progress right now. Stop delaying your happiness!
Today we launch a 10 day, summer ready challenge in the Daily Practice Community and if this hit home, then you are going to love this 10 minute a day challenge! Join us!

"She believed she could, so she did."
Happy Memorial Day! I'm taking a break from my regularly scheduled programming for a story telling session about the time I manifested myself into a pageant. Not a beauty pageant, but regal and fabulous all the same.
Manifesting our dreams is important. Is simple. And is powerful. And is the moral of this fun tale that had me on cloud nine and my "boys" very uncomfortable.
As promised in the episode, here is the recipe for my mom's Secret Carrot Cake. It was secret because it was the most requested item from her catering business and she wasn't about to let the recipe out for fear that it would damper her business! So it was never published in our cookbooks and currently can't be found any where else! Enjoy!
Secret Carrot Cake
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups oil
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups grated carrots
1/2 cup walnuts (optional--I've never opted for these)
Sift together the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the eggs, oil, and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry. Mix until well combined. Add the carrots and nuts and combine.
Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes in a greased and floured bundt pan. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes and then turn out onto a cooling rack and cool completely.
Cream Cheese Frosting
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream together the frosting ingredients with a mixer until smooth. Once the cake is completely cool, frost the cake. I typically pour it over the top and let it drip down the sides as opposed to frosting every inch, etc.
As usual, I am here if you need me. If this story has inspired you to explore what you want to bring to fruition and don't know where to start or how to manifest it, then I would LOVE for you to book a 30 Minute Priorities Power Session so we can get you started. Today!

We can accept that life is a game.

What is open to you if you were to view your life as a game? One that you have the control to traverse. One that you can design, create, implement, and change.
When we have this view of our life we can see that we are never stuck. We are just on a spot on our game board with options to move forward back and to each side. It's all about where we are, where we want to head and most importantly what is our next right step. That is what I talk about this week. This is something I'm very passionate about and am breaking it all down in three workshops in my Daily Practice Masterclass this month! I would love for you to join us!
I would love to help you traverse your journey across your game board. You can set up a complimentary 30-Minute Priorities Power Session to connect on where you might want to start as you commit to YOU. You are so worth it my friend.

One of the simplest ways to connect to ourselves and to others is through play. Play allows us to have a heart, hand and mind connection. It brings out the joy. It gives us a platform for conversation. It brings us together. Play can be adventure, games, baking, creating, getting messy, and more. There is no right way to do it. It's just about perfect. That's what I talk about in this week's episode. Using play to connect!

As perfectionists, we go to the biggest, most awesome possibility first and then immediately shoot it down because, yeah, it’s the biggest, most awesome possibility and who the heck has the time and energy for that. And so, then we choose the opposite, which is nothing at all. We defer our connection until that magical time when we will have the time and energy, and most likely that will be never. Then we start to feel guilty that more and more time has gone by and we still haven’t connected, and then we get in this cycle of guilt.
We need to stop that cycle and dial back our grandiose connection dreams to the essence of their core and create SIMPLE ways to connect. That's what I break down this week. Let's keep it simple my friend!

"It's not about having time. It's about making time."
Stop any mom on the street and suggest to her to spend more time on herself, find her direction, passion or purpose and she will reply, "That sounds amazing, but I don't have time."
How about you? Are you passing over yourself, to make time for everyone else? It's not about having more time. It's about how you are spending your time. It's about priorities. It's about creativity. It's about fear.
That's where we go this week on the podcast. Debunking the concept that as moms, we just don't have time. And by believing this and operating from this mindset, it is yet another thing that is keeping us stuck!

"Guilt is the thief of live." --Anthony Hopkins
Guilt is so engrained in us that we hardly notice it. It pervades our every days with shoulds, must haves, and wish I hads. As a result, it's keeping us from living fully and whole within our lives. It robs us of deep connections and opportunities to bring our genius into the world.
This week I talk all things guilt. How to create awareness. How to determine if it's productive or destructive guilt. How we can begin to weed out our lives of all those initiatives that no longer serve us and the best way to put the balls down.
Are you ready to face your limiting beliefs. Put yourself in the driver's seat of your own life. Create the life of your own design?

"There is no space for peace when perfectionism is a priority." --Christian Bosse
Limiting beliefs lead us to excuses, which lead us to a stalemate. But what is true about so many of our limiting beliefs is our need for perfection. Our perfectionism keeps us from starting, finishing, continuing, and finding fulfillment in the work we do. It's part emotion, part behavior, part personality, and all parts pain in the @#$.
This week I break down perfectionism. How to identify it. How to evaluate it. How to overcome it. And remember, knowing is not enough. We need to put an action plan in place.

"Breaking free of limiting beliefs is like breaking the chains that bind you." --Jasmin Lee Cori
Limiting beliefs are those that we have woven into our story and narrative for so long that we believe them to absolutely be true. They grew out of an experience that we had, they were established to protect us, but now are holding us back.
This week I dive into limiting beliefs and the two that led me to become morbidly obese and share my framework on how I faced those limiting beliefs and conquered them, which helped me lose the weight and live within a right sized body. This same framework can be used for any limiting beliefs that we are holding tight to our chests.

"Within you is the divine capacity to manifest and attract all that you desire." --Wayne Dyer
When I was a senior in college, I was on the edge of seeing my dream come to fruition, but that edge was a million miles away from reality. Or 1,500 miles away to be exact. I had to find a way to get paid to move cross country to finally leave my little town in Iowa and find myself as a designer in Boston. And I didn't know one person. But I wasn't going to let that stop me. And so way before I knew what manifesting was, I manifested the crap out of the situation and brought dream to reality. In this week's episode, I share the whole story and even more importantly the 8-step framework that I use for myself and the women that I work with to manifest our dreams and make them a reality.
I work with midlife moms who are lost in motherhood who seek to find their direction, purpose, and fulfilling work for their next chapter. "It's impossible to write morning pages for any extended period of time without coming into contact with an unexpected inner power." --Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way
"Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages–they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only. Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and
synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put
three pages of anything on the page...and then do three more pages tomorrow." --Julia Cameron
Today, my business turns 21. I was able to make that leap, and every leap since due to the fact that I have been doing morning pages on and off for all of the years since. Whenever I have gotten to a place where I know it's time to shift, I go back. They are my direct link to me and want I want. I encourage every single woman that I work with to include them in her practice. It's free. It's simple. And it takes 15 minutes a day. It is life changing. Listen to learn more!

"Silence is a true friend that never betrays." --Confucius
What's your relationship with silence? Do you crave it or avoid it at all costs? While I crave it on the daily now, there have been so many times in my life that I avoided it. It scared me. Silence provides us the opportunity to listen to what we really want and need in a situation. It also gives us the time and space to see our lives as it really is and that can be scary. We know we aren't living our life to its potential, but we convince ourselves that all is fine. That we will work on that when the time is right. We continue living life just as we always have. This week I dive into silence. What it has meant to me on my journey. When I have avoided it, when I have embraced it, and the impact that it has had.

"People working together in a strong community with a shared goal and a common purpose can make the impossible possible." --Tom Vilsack
Community has played a huge part in all of our lives organically from our family and extended family to our faith community, from our schools to our groups of friends. But as we get older, we need to work harder to seek out community. Communities that will help support us in pursuing our passions, our purpose and our dreams. That's what I dive into today. How community is the key in us finding our success. I share my own experiences where community was the only thing that kept me going as a mom and how I was able to walk into the ocean on a 28-degree day. Yep...through community.
Are you needing a community to help support you, inspire you, and provide you accountability on your journey to your what's next? Join my Daily Practice Masterclass--a year long journey to you. The February theme is INTUITION: Tapping into Our Knowing as Our Guide. Click here to learn more.

"We need to understand our bodies, to listen to them, to know what they need." -Kelly Keyser-Millar
We are constantly on the go with little time, if any, to make sure we are taking the best care possible of ourselves. We are quick to deal with our symptoms by popping a quick pill and hoping for the best. But we aren't taking the concerted time to connect with ourselves, listening to our bodies, and treating the source of our woes...naturally. This week our Masterclass was joined by Botanical Alchemist Kelly Keyser-Millar of Mortar & Pestle Herbal as she answers all of our questions about how we can treat our inflammation, get better sleep, and feel and look younger all using nature as our medicine.

"All of your dreams are on the other side of fear."
The more and more I work with women on helping them get unstuck and on a journey to their what's next, the more I am realizing that fear is one of the biggest barriers to even starting. But it's not a fear of failure that they are most concerned with. Then what are they afraid of? What are you afraid of? Listen as I break it down and share all sorts of stories on how I've had to suspend my fear and how I was able to come out the other side. There isn't anyone that can't see themselves in this episode. Am I talking to you directly?

" When you know your why, you can endure any how."
― Viktor Frankl
This week I share insight on how I finally broke my 35+ year cycle of yo-yo dieting by focusing on my why and my decision to stop trying to lose weight. That decision resulted in my losing more than 160 pounds. This subtle shift of focusing on the why before the goal can result in significant different outcomes. At my heaviest weight, I weighed 370 pounds and from that weight, I have lost more than 200. But from the point in the story noted in this episode, I have lost 160. I lost a half of me!

" In order to understand the world, one has to turn away from it on occasion."
― Albert Camus
I have not spent a solid weekend with only myself to be concerned with in over 25 years. Twenty-five years my friends! After a 40 day, 10,000 mile family roadtrip and 18 months into a pandemic, I wanted only one thing for my 50th birthday. To be alone. Completely alone.
In this episode I talk about what made me want to retreat, how I made it happen, what I learned and most importantly how I want to do it again. And again. And again.

"We need to give ourselves permission to be included in our own circle of nurture." --Sonia Bestulic
As moms we are amazing at caring for others. Everyone. Everyone but ourselves. As perfectionists we are so focused on being the best mom, partner, friend and community member. And we've trained ourselves to believe that self-care is taking away from others and thus guilt keeps us stuck in the pattern of running ourselves ragged.
This week I spoke with Sydney author Sonia Bestulic whose new book Flourish for Mums: 21 Ways to Thrive with Self-care and Acceptance invites us all into our own circle of nurture by finding space and time to care for themselves.
This is just a portion of our discussion, which was amazing with so many valuable nuggets of advice. The full replay can be found within the Daily Practice community.
You can learn more about Sonia on her website.

"You belong anywhere you want to be."
I have spent a lot of time reflecting this month and it has shown me just how far I've really come. So often we focus on what we didn't achieve and overlook everything we did. This is because we often don't feel like we deserve the praise, or the achievements. We often feel like an imposter and at any moment everyone is going to figure out we don't know what the heck we are doing.
This episode talks frankly about my own imposter syndrome and how I was able to face it head on in 2021 and how you can do the same.

"Your heart is the size of an ocean. Go find yourself in its hidden depths." Rumi
As mothers we have become selfless, which is admirable, but also dangerous. Our drive to care for everyone else before ourselves is causing us to be exhausted, depleted and resentful. We need to take the first step in taking back ourselves. To find ourselves. To arrive at a place where we actually are a better mom, partner, friend and community member. The holidays are a whole new level of crazy and so it is important to self-advocate now.

"We don't learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on our experience." John Dewey
Tomorrow is my birthday! And it's a big one! For this episode I take you down memory lane from my first big dream as a 10 year old up to today in less than 20 minutes and share my big lessons from each decade of my life. This timeline process is the first step in moving forward in our lives. We can not move forward until we reflect on how we got to where we are. I model this within the episode.
This is a fun story packed episode and I would love for you to come along and celebrate with me!

Each month in the Daily Practice community we celebrate a theme and do one "deep dive" with a speaker that relates to the theme. November's theme is GRATITUDE: Unlocking the Fullness of Life and our deep dive was with Andreea Fegan of www.littlebitesofjoy.com. Andreea is a musician, teacher, blogger, gardener, cookbook creator and just embodies simple joy. Here is a piece of our conversation where we talk about finding joy in the simple things and how we can use this lens to make Thanksgiving (and any day) more meaningful.
If you would like to see the full replay, where we continue the conversation while she demonstrates two of the recipes from her current Thanksgiving cookbook, just join A Daily Practice.

In this episode let's unpack:
1. The hardest part of getting to any goal or dream.
2. How I let Martha Stewart keep me stuck...for 7 years!
2. Four strategies to get you started and on your way!

The first episode drops on Monday, November 1st. Before you forget, follow Dream Big and Implement Small so you'll get every show as soon as it's released.
