What's new in oncology? We all wish we had a crystal ball so we would know if a treatment was going to work or not--and THAT'S what this episode is about.

Melanie Holscher interviews Dennis Watson, Vice President of Business Development with Travera about the unique research the company is doing. Dennis has spent the last 15 years of his professional career working in and leading commercial teams to bring cutting edge genetic and genomic diagnostics to the world of oncology. The last year and a half of that work has been with this start-up out of Boston, MA that promises to use MIT developed technologies to disrupt the personalized medicine approach to cancer treatment. They talk about the unique work Travera is doing and how you might be able to take advantage of their early efforts in your own cancer journey.

Dennis has worked with companies like Myriad Genetics and Agendia, helping to engage practicing clinicians and researchers on clinical trials, technical advancements, and clinical applications of genetic and genomic testing, but for the past 1.5yr Dennis has been involved in something a little different, a new technology that may truly personalize therapy selection beyond what can be done with genetics or genomics alone…and it’s all about using physics, in fact measurement of cell mass, to answer a question that biology alone has struggled to solve with consistent clarity. Travera is continuing to work on clinical trials, on-going validation, and reimbursement, but in the meantime, they are finding ways to work directly with patients through advocacy and physician engagement.

As cancer patients, we understand scanxiety and worrying about recurrence. Today's guest, Donna Beers, has had a major diagnosis of illness every decade of her life since her 20s. She has a message of hope and she opens up about how she leans on her faith. Even after her triple negative breast cancer diagnosis, she shares, "It hasn't been that bad."

Donna and host, Melanie Holscher, talk about faith, fear, and how to live life to the fullest. Join Donna's FaceBook group: Are You Kidding Me God?? Cancer Again??!!!

My faith is part of my identity, so I had to include it. Personally, I stand up unapologetically and unashamed in my decision to follow Jesus Christ. Everybody makes a choice about God and I respect everybody's decision. Things get real for cancer patients so we tend to think and talk more about our faith. I always tell my kids, "Your life is a reflection of the decisions you make." My fervent prayer is that my life is a reflection of the decision I made for Christ.

Please share this podcast with a cancer fighter you love. We are creating a movement helping cancer fighters strengthen their mindset for the battle.

There are resources at your hospitals and doctor's offices. Sometimes you and/or your physician can go to the pharmaceutical companies if you need help with copays or if your insurance won't cover a medication. Often patients don’t feel strong enough to search for resources. When someone asks you "how can I help" give them this resource list and let them do the work for you.

http://support.ga2day.com/PattymcbeewalkstoendBC : This is the 2 day walk to raise funds in Georgia. There are a lot of resources listed on this site.

https://my.tupperware.com/pattymcbee : my personal business website. I donate a lot of my personal profit when a need comes up but all of October I donate all of my profit from the sale of products.

https://cleaningforareason.org/ : This is an amazing resource for anyone going through treatment. two free cleanings during treatment. I have sent this to everyone I know going through treatment. Not all areas are served by a donating cleaning company but more and more are added each year.

https://www.healincomfort.com/free-resources-for-breast-cancer-patients/ : one site that has multiple freebies and help for breast cancer patients. This is the website that i wish I had come up with on my own. Not every resource is here but there are a lot.
