There was a group of friends known as the Basement Crew. They were the kind of friends who stuck together through thick and thin, their laughter echoing through the streets even when life got tough. Amidst the usual pressures of school, work, and expectations, they found solace in an old, neglected basement that belonged to one of their grandmothers.
When the world outside felt overwhelming and money ran low, they knew exactly where to escape. The basement was hidden away, filled with the scent of aged wood and dust, but it was theirs. They got out some old Etta James albums, and they set up old couches and worn-out rugs, turning the space into their personal sanctuary. The walls were adorned with posters from artists they loved, and a beat-up old record player became their prized possession.
“Where can we party, child, all night long?” one of them shouted over the music, arms wide as if trying to embrace the energy of the moment. “In the basement!” they all yelled back laughing and dancing.
The basement wasn’t just a place; it was a feeling—of freedom, security, and joy. As they finally settled down, giggling and tired, they vowed to return whenever life felt heavy. For in that small, unremarkable basement, they had found their escape—a little haven where they could party, laugh, and love without a care in the worldplaying Etta James song ‘In the Basement released in 1966.
As the story of the Basement Crew comes to a close, we are reminded that: Two are better than one .. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow….Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.
May we each find our own basements—places of refuge filled with friendship, joy, and the spirit of togetherness.

In 1976, American musician Steve Miller released his hit song "Fly Like an Eagle." The song first made waves in the United Kingdom in August and then landed in the United States by December of that year. It quickly gained popularity, reaching an impressive number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 1977.
The song always seemed spiritual and Reggae to me when I first heard it. It is categorized as space rock or blues rock. Its unique sound combines elements that creates a feeling of freedom much like the lyrics suggest.
Over the years, the song has remained a favorite for its uplifting message and catchy tune. Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle" reminds fans everywhere to dream big and embrace the journey ahead.

Hey there, music lovers! Let's talk about a fantastic track called "Nobody Told Me" by the legendary John Lennon. This hit had quite a journey, climbing its way to the top of the charts. In January 1984, it made a splash in the UK, peaking at number 6, and in the US, it hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was Lennon's last brand-new single to break into the top 10 before he left us, and that makes it extra special!
The song features some memorable lines: "Nobody told me there'd be days like these / Strange days indeed / Most peculiar, mama." These words twist the old saying, "My mama told me there'd be days like this," which is famously sung by The Shirelles in "Mama Said." While the Shirelles gave us a sense of warning about life's ups and downs, Lennon flips it around, expressing surprise at how unpredictable life can be.

It bubbled up in February '69, hit number 71 on Billboard. Didn't stick around too long, but then It came back in January '70, climbin' a bit higher to 66! Canada digged it a bit more, hittin' 41 and 58 on two different runs. This tune's got legs, you hear? It's got staying power!

Let me take you back to the golden vibes of the 70s! We're tuning in to a song from the English music scene - that smooth track, "We Just Disagree," by the one and only Dave Mason! Released in August ’77, this beautiful ballad was plucked right off his album Let It Flow—and it hit the airwaves like a comet at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100!
Now, let me tell you why this song resonates with so many of us. “We Just Disagree” is the anthem of that bittersweet moment in a relationship when things just don’t line up anymore. You can feel the warmth in Dave's voice as he reminisces about a connection that’s maybe lost its spark. But hold on tight because here comes Jim Krueger with his magic touch on that 12-string guitar! Let’s talk about a lovely song called "We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again," written by Jeffrey Comanor. This song came out in September 1976 as part of an album called "A Rumor in His Own Time." It’s all about a sweet couple who have an amazing night together, and the singer wishes it would just go on forever—no goodbyes, just happiness.
While Jeffrey’s original version didn’t get much attention, a big change happened when Clive Davis, the president of Arista Records, stumbled upon it just a few months later. He saw potential in it, and it was soon covered by a duo called Deardorff & Joseph in their first album with Arista.
After Deardorff & Joseph went their separate ways, interestingly, the people managing them found new opportunities—you see, Marcia Day started managing Deardorff, while Susan Joseph took charge of Joseph.
Fast forward to February 1978, and we have more covers of this enchanting tune! Maureen McGovern and the duo England Dan & John Ford Coley each released their versions. McGovern's cover didn’t quite catch on, but England Dan & John Ford Coley hit the jackpot! Their rendition spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard US Easy Listening chart and made waves in Canada, too.

Through the words of Tina Turner, I hear the chambers of collective struggle, Tina Turner. We don’t need another hero in her powerful voice. She speaks to the heart of our individual souls as we go through this turbulent landscape we call life we find ourselves journey for something more something greater than what lies within our own experiences.
Tina implores us to consider the landscape of our existence asking not for another savior to emerge from the shadows, but rather for a path that leads us beyond our own personal thunderdomes. What is a hero? What we truly seek is not someone to rescue us from our struggles, but an awakening - a change in our society.
She sings of change, and when I listen, I too wonder: When will we ever change? When will we rise up and hold the reins of our destinies, embracing our capacity to shape a world free from the chains of fear and despair? We have been searching, yearning for something — a foundation upon which we can build our dreams, a pillar of strength that we can rely on as we strive for a better tomorrow.
Look around you. Never stop is a song by The Brand New Heavies. They are in English band formed in 1985. They’re single was released in 1991. Never Stop was released as the first international single and third overall single.
Upon his release, never stop achieved notable commercial success. The song peaked at number 43 on the UK singles chart. The song became the first crossover hit, peeking at number 54 on the US billboard hot 100 and climbed to an impressive number four on the US hot R&B singles chart .
The Brand New Heavies signature sound is evident through the use of tight instrumentation, energetic rhythms and smooth vocal delivery, which collectively create an appealing and uplifting listening experience. This achievement indicated the bands ability to appeal to a diverse audience, transcending genres, and establishing a foothold in both pop and R&B markets.
The music video for Never Stop directed by Douglas Gayeton visually captures the upbeat and joyful vibe of the song. The video further enhanced the song’s popularity.

Eugene Record was an American singer, songwriter, arranger, and record producer. He was best known as the lead vocalist of the Chicago-based vocal group The Chi-Lites from their formation in 1959 until 1973, from 1980 to 1988, and later making occasional guest appearances. Record wrote and produced many of the group's hits in the 1970s on Brunswick Records, as well as writing and producing for other acts. He had international hits with: "Oh Girl," "Have You Seen Her,
When Brunswick began to falter due to legal and financial issues in the mid-1970s, Record decided to go solo and released three albums (entitled The Eugene Record, Trying to Get to You, and Welcome to My Fantasy) in the late 1970s on Warner Music Group without major success, before re-joining The Chi-Lites in 1980.
From Eugene 1976 album the Eugene Record, he made a single entitled Overdose of Joy. It sounds like a smashing hit. Eugene Record sounds a lot like Marvin Gaye and the music sounds like a Marvin Gaye kind of groove. The song was written by Eugene.

Walk Away From Love Is a song recorded by David Ruffin in 1975. The million selling single was Ruffins only number one R&B hit. Nobody could sing like David Ruffin. His voice really spoke to people through music. You can feel feeling from the words of the song because of his voice.
The lyrics say: I'm gonna walk away from love before love breaks my heart.
He makes love sound like it's something to be feared because of fear within. He doesn't want his heartbroken. So David sings about walking away.
The song Walk Away From Love was number one on the US R&B singles chart for one week in early 1976, and crossed over to number nine on the pop charts. In Canada, the song peak that number 30.

Motown had a whole House full of kings and Queens. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin, and a whole list of them in the same house.
Now Michael Jackson is the number one king in the world. He started out as a Motown star with his brothers the Jackson 5.
Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul. She's another Motown star.
Whitney Houston reigned as the Queen of Pop.
James Brown is Godfather of Soul.
Looks like to me, there is room for all that work hard to be number one in music. Rolling Stone has written an article titled The 200 Greatest asingers of All Time.
Today you hear rumors among fans: Who is a far better singer than who? I don't understand why people compare singers.
When I was growing up hearing Motown, listening with family and friends, everybody just enjoyed the music.
When disco came along all of the singers got an applied in the 80s. We loved of course Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Madonna, and the list goes on. There were so many singers that the world enjoyed.
Now we are being told that they'll never be another James Brown or Michael Jackson. I don't know why because there are some more talented people out there just like them or better than them. God gave so many people so much talent, and if you're trying to get into the business, we all know that if it's not about talent, it ain't the music business, and there should be room for all.

When Love Calls came from Atlantic Starr’s third studio album, Radiant. The song is written by David Lewis and Wayne Lewis. When Love Calls Peaked at number five on billboard’s R&B chart and number 80 on billboard’s dance music chart in 1981.
The lyrics said: When love calls
You better answer
Cause it might be a big mistake if you decide to hesitate.
The single is a pretty good R&B and dance song.
You may know Atlantic star from singing the hits Always, Secret Lovers, and Masterpiece. You may also know them from singing One Lover, At a Time, If Your Heart Isn't In It, and My First Love.
The group started in the 1970s and they were singing in the 80s They have changed and replaced members. There were some members that had solo careers. They were plentiful in members. Today's topic on Radiea Applis Soul is Bill Moss: Socket It To Em Soul Brother. Hello! I'm Gail Nobles. Welcome to Sound Flave. You're listening to the Radiea Applis Soul podcast edition.
Bill Moss was a local singer and DJ at WVKO in Columbus. Short for Capital City Soul, the Columbus Ohio Capsule label’s history spans only five years throughout the 1970s founded by Bill Moss. Eccentric Soul: The Capsule Label is a compilation of 19 tracks spanning the label’s all but forgotten history.
One of the songs on the compilation album was titled Socket It To Him Soul Brother by Bill Moss. In the song, he mentioned that he once had the pleasure of meeting Dr. King, and he asked the question: What I say?” Then the back up group would back him up by saying: Socket It To Him So Brother. The song was released on the Bell Records label in 1969. I won't say that it's an instrumental record, and I won't say that it's a rap record as far as rhyming. But it has that rap style. It's a soul record in the soul genre.
On the compilation album released in 2004 or other songs by other music artist by the label The Numero Group.
I would like to add that the single Socket To Him Soul Brother was also released on the Pama Records Label. I don't know if the song was a hit, but it sure sounds like a hit.

Today's topic is James and Bobby Purify. They had a song titled: So Many Reasons. They were an R&B singing duo whose big hits were I’m Your Puppet in 1966, which reached number six in the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and "Let Love Come Between Us" in 1967, which reached number 23 in the US. The original "Bobby Purify" (Robert Lee Dickey) was replaced by a second "Bobby Purify" (Ben Moore) in the 1970s. James Lee Purify was cousin to the original Robert Lee Dickie formed in 1965.
I'd like to talk about their single So Many Reasons. It is a great song too.It's a song that some may not have heard. It's a single that comes from the album Shake A Tail Feather! The best of James & Bobby Purify released in 2002. The song So Many Reasons is telling all the reasons why someone is loved. James and Bobby are singing and telling the story. Songwriters knew how to write down in words the reasons why they loved someone in those days, and the singers didn't have a hard time expressing and explaining it. You could see and feel their emotions.

Reflections of my life was a 1969/1970 hit single for the Scottish band Marmalade. It was written by their lead guitarist Junior Campbell and singer Dean Ford. Released in late 1969, it was the band’s first release on Decca following an earlier spell at CBS.
The song went on to chart worldwide reaching number three in the UK in 1969, number 10 in the US and 1970 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number seven on the Cash Box Top 100. Initial sales were significant in both countries.
In the kind of world we're living in today, I often think of some of the words to the song. The part when Marmalade sings, “The world is a bad place, a bad place. A terrible place to live. Oh, but I don't wanna die.
Today the song is more than a song to me. The band was singing the way I feel right now. Reflections of My Life is a meaningful song. I love the guitars I hear in the song and the harmony of Marmalade. And most of all, the words.

Diana Ross. She rose to fame as the lead singer of the vocal group The Supremes, who became Motown's most successful act during the 1960s and one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. They remain the best-charting female group in history with a total of twelve number-one hit singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, including "Where Did Our Love Go", "Baby Love", "Come See About Me", "Stop! In the Name of Love", and "Love Child".
Following her departure from the Supremes in 1970, Ross embarked on a successful solo music career with the release of her eponymous debut solo album and its singles, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" – her first solo U.S. number-one hit – and "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)".
My favorite song from Diana Ross isAin’t No Mountain High Enough. She sang her version beautifully. I love her beginning speech to the song as the Motown Orchestra plays and the choir sings. Diana’s spoken voice is beautiful for the song saying: If you need, me call me.

Hello! I'm Gail Nobles.Welcome to Sound Flave. I don't know anyone that doesn't know anything about the Beatles. What I remember most about the Beatles is their hit song Let It Be. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon McCartney partnership. It’s a wonderful song. It sounds as if it was written just for me, and some of you might feel the same.
At the time, it had the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning its chart run at number 6 and eventually reaching the top. It was the Beatles' final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band.
McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after he had a dream about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles ("the White Album") in 1968. Mary Patricia McCartney died of cancer in 1956, when he was fourteen. I can feel what McCartney went through, and his song certainly made me realize the meaning during the time my mother was leaving me.
Did you know that Billy Preston played organ and electric piano for the Beatles? He played the organ for the song Let It Be. I've also seen Billy Preston performed the song live on piano.

Today's topic on SoundCloud: James Ingram he was a singer songwriter and producer James Ingram made thoughtful and beautiful love songs. I miss his voice and the style he had singing love songs. One of my favorite love songs by James Ingram is One Hundred Ways is a 1981 single released from Quincy Jones's album the dude on A&M records. The song reached number 14 on the US billboard Hot 100 in 1982. It was a bigger Adult Contemporary hit reaching number five in the US and number six in Canada. One Hundred Ways received the 1982 Grammy award for best R&B vocal performance.
After Ingram began his career in 1973, he charted eight top 40 hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart from the early 1980s until the early 1990s, as well as thirteen top 40 hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In addition, he charted 20 hits on the Adult Contemporary chart (including two number-ones). He had two number-one singles on the Hot 100: the first, a duet with fellow R&B artist Patti Austin, 1982's "Baby, Come to Me" topped the U.S. pop chart in 1983; "I Don't Have the Heart", which became his second number-one in 1990 was his only number-one as a solo artist. In between these hits he also recorded other songs.
James Ingram passed away in Los Angeles of brain cancer in 2019. He was only 66 years old. Ingram was the best. He let us know there are many ways to express love.

Hello! I'm Gail Nobles, and today I want to talk about the Dionne Warwick song Déjà Vu. It is a 1979 hit ballad written by Isaac Hayes with lyricist Adrienne Anderson, recorded by Dionne Warwick for her album Dionne which Barry Manilow produced. The song won Warwick a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 22nd Grammy Awards.
Issued in November 1979 as the album's second single – following up Warwick's top ten comeback hit "I'll Never Love This Way Again" – "Déjà Vu" rose to number 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 25 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and number one on the Adult Contemporary chart in early 1980.
I remember the song Déjà Vu when it was played many times on the radio.And in the 70s, I don't remember the Grammy Awards airing live or anyone mentioning the Grammys until the 1980s. The Grammys aired live on television for the first time in 1971, but as much as I heard Dionne’s song on the radio, I knew it was a hit. Radio was how I knew.

Faith Hope and Charity was the name of a vocal group from Tampa, Florida.[1] They are best known for their 1975 hit, "To Each His Own". They were also an in-demand group of session singers in New York studios during the 1970s.
The founding members of the group were Zulema Cusseaux, Brenda Hilliard and Al Bailey.
Their song "So Much Love" hit #14 on the Billboard R&B chart[1] and #51 on the Hot 100 in 1970.The subsequent release "Baby Don't Take Your Love" reached #36 R&B and #96 in the Hot 100.
I love Faith Hope and Charity’s song Just One Look in soul, disco style. The band released the cover and it spent four weeks on the UK singles chart reaching number 38 on February 7, 1976. Just One Look is a song written by R&B singers Doris Troy and Gregory Carroll Carroll.

They had three R&B top five singles in 1974 to 1975. No. 1 Finally Got Myself Together. I'm A Changed Man (which also reach the pop top 20) and the No.3 singles “Same Thing It Took and Sooner or Later.
I want to talk about the single Same Thing It Took. There’s a good message in the song. The lyrics say: The reason a lot of people romances don't last is that they tend to forget so fast Same thing it took to get your baby hooked is gonna take the same thing to keep her.
I agree. Whatever you did the first time, you got to keep doing. Don’t get slack. The song came from the 1975 album titled First Impressions.

They made a single titled Dont Take My Sunshine. Ithasa very soulful tune and is a very good song. It sounds like a song about losing someone, and the sunshine is the joy and happiness. The singer is asking his partner not to take it away. If you had your heart broken before, you might can feel and relate to the song.
The song was written by Bobby Newsome and was released in 1972.

Today's topic A-ha. Do you remember the Norwegian synth-pop band A-ha? They were the band that made the single “Take On Me” in the 80s. Their music video for the single was amazing in the United States in October 1985. The single topped billboard Hot 100. The music video made me love the song. The video was a live action pencil sketch animation sequence. The video won 6 awards and was nominated for two others at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards.
I love the way Morten Harket (the lead singer of the group) animated hand reached out of the comic book for the lady to take his hand who was reading the comic book in a café. She wasn’t animated until she took his hand to be in the comic book world with him. I thought it was the coolest music video I had ever seen. It only lasted a few minutes, but it told a big awesome story.
The band was in the video too. They were seen playing the keyboard and drums and guitar.
The woman had to escape the animated world and leave Morten Harket. When she was back in the café, she found the comic book throwed away, and she took it with her. She took her Harket with her. Take on me. That is the main idea of the story.
A-ha has released 11 studio albums to date, and topped the charts internationally after their breakthrough hit Take On Me in 1985.

Hello! I'm Gail Nobles, and you’re listening to Sound Flave - Radiae Applis Soul. Today we're going to talk about Pale Jay. He has a new album out titled Bewilderment. For some reason, he doesn't show his face. He wears a Tobaggan looking mask to hide it. So I have no idea what he looks like, but he sounds like a talented person through his music. According to his bio, he began to question the stories he had always live with and re-examined his identity. Bewilderment is his first full length album which strives to find answers to these questions and more. Pale Jay sounds like the kind of person that doesn't quit. I say he’s a warrior.
When I first heard Pale Jay's music, I said wow! I love his style and sound. I love the way he sings. According to Jay's bio, he is a trained jazz vocalist and pianist and he wrote, recorded, and produce all the songs on the album except for ‘By the Lake.’

You may remember them from their hits like “I Can’t Wait” from their second album “Tha’s Right” in 1985. And their song, “Point of No Return” which was the second single taken from the Nu Shooz album Poolside. The single was realeased in 1986.
Valerie Day was the lead singer of the group Nu Shooz in the 80’s along with her husband John Smith.
The music of Nu Shooz was so irresistible. They had a great baseline and beat in the song “I Can’t Wait." I remember a rap song came right after that. The title of the song was Spyder D - I Can’t Wait (To Rock the Mike) Featuring DJ Doc.

Hi! I’m Gail Nobles on Sound Flave. Bob & Marcia - United We Stand. A cover song released by the Brotherhood of Man in 1970. Bob Andy & Marcia Griffiths were a Jamaican vocal duo. They had a #5 UK hit single in 1970 with “ Young Gifted and Black.” They followed up with "Pied Piper", which peaked at #11 in the UK Singles Chart in 1971. Those two releases spent a total of twenty five weeks in that chart in a period of less than eighteen months. They discontinued their partnership in the mid-1970s, both feeling that it was not bringing them adequate financial reward.
The cover song “United We Stand” was on Bob and Marcia’s album “Young, Gifted & Black” which was released in 1970 on the Trojan records label.

Damon Wimbley Stage name: Kool- Rock- Ski He is widely recognized as a former member of the hip-hop singing group, The Fat Boys. Damon is the last man standing of the group. If you’re wondering what Damon Wimbley is doing now, you can get in touch with him on Instagram @legendaryfatboykoolroski. He’s also on Facebook. Wimbley had lost weight the last time I saw him. He doesn’t look like the same guy that was with the hip hop group. It has been said that he works out and also follows a healthy diet. The last time I saw Wimbley online he looked great.
I miss Kool-Rock-Ski and his hip-hop buddies, Buff Love and Prince Markie Dee. The trio is widely known for using the human beatbox in their songs. The group opened doors for beatboxers like Biz Markie and Doug E. Fresh. The Fat Boys were one of the first rap groups to release full-length rap albums, along with Run-DMC., Whodini, and Kurtis Blow. The group released seven studio albums, four of which went Gold by RIAA.
I enjoyed listening to their songs like “Can You Feel It”, Fat Boys, All You Can Eat, & The Fat Boys Are Back. The Trio made some really cool rap songs.

Let’s talk about Dionne Warrick’s song written by Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb of The Bee Gees for her 1982 studio album Heartbreaker. The single is the same title as the album.
The song reached the top of the charts around the world and stands as one of Warwick’s biggest career hits selling an estimated 4 million singles worldwide. It made the Top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1983. The track was Dionne’s eighth number one Adult Contemporary hit and reached number 14 on the Soul chart. It was ranked as Billboard magazine's 80th-biggest US hit of 1983. On the UK Singles Chart, the track reached number 2 in November 1982.

I use to wake up to songs like Morning After. The radio would play all night. All night until the morning.
Good sounding days of radio. I’m GN, and you’re listening to Sound Flave Radiae Applis. I never thought I’d be talking to people all over the world through what we call the Internet about music minus playing the records. Sound Flave Radiae is about voice in podcasting. But it can be so much more.
We still can remember music. The best music like Maureen McGovern’s “The Morning After”. A song written for the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure, winning Best Original Song at the 45th Academy Awards. Following the success, Maureen McGovern recorded a single version that became a No. 1 hit in the US for two weeks during August 1973, with Gold record sales.
In those days, I was just a baby. And every time the radio was turned on, I remember hearing the song, “The Morning After”. Little did I know that Maureen was singing my life then. I remember waking up through the night looking for the sunlight. I heard a DJ say on an old radio Broadcast that it was a nippy little song, “ The Morning After” but that song said plenty.

Bettye Crutcher was a songwriter of soul music. She sang It’s So Lonely.
Tonight, Bettye Crutcher in the spotlight news. Bettye Crutcher has passed away. She was 83 years old. Betty was a staff writer at Stax Records. She also wrote & sung songs like, So Lonely Without You, When We’re Together, Sugar Daddy, and more.
Crutcher was born in Memphis in 1939 and began writing at a young age. She began writing hits. She co-wrote the single for Johnnie Taylor, Who’s Making Love. She also wrote hits for other Stax Record Stars.
Crutcher passed away in Nashville on Oct. 20, 2022.

Hello everyone! This is GN from Radiae Applis Soul. Today’s topic is Dick Griffey - Solar Records.
Dick Griffey was a record producer and music promoter who founded SOLAR Records - Sound of Los Angeles Records". The label played a major role in developing a funk-oriented blend of disco, R&B and soul music during the 1970s and 1980s. As a concert promoter, Griffey arranged bookings for artists such as James Brown, The Sylvers, Aretha Franklin, Jon Gibson, Stevie Wonder and the Jacksons.
SOLAR Records was a record label founded in 1977 by Dick Griffey, reconstituted out of Soul Train Records only two years after it was founded with Soul Train television show host and creator Don Cornelius.
SOLAR began in 1975 as Soul Train Records, founded by Dick Griffey and Soul Train creator Don Cornelius. The first act they signed was an R&B vocal quartet they named The Soul Train Gang who performed one of Soul Train's many themes, Their first album was entitled Don Cornelius Presents The Soul Train Gang. In 1976, their second album, The Soul Train Gang, produced by Philly's Norman Harris, was released. The Gang broke up in 1977.
Griffey reorganized Soul Train Records into the newly founded SOLAR label in late 1977. Griffey and Cornelius remained good friends, and as a result SOLAR maintained close ties to the Soul Train show.
SOLAR was known for several others who enjoyed success, including: The Whispers, Dynasty, Lakeside, Midnight Star, Klymaxx, Calloway, Carrie Lucas, Collage and The Deele — which introduced singer/songwriter/producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and future music executive Antonio "L.A." Reid. Griffey had always believed in giving new talents the opportunity to create and develop their craft, and he was introduced to songwriters/producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis by his A & R rep Dina R. Andrews (Dina Andrews Management Inc) who was the team's first manager, Reggie and Vincent Calloway, and Leon F. Sylvers III.
By 1987, the label began to see its commercial fortunes decline. From 1977 to 1981, SOLAR was distributed by RCA Records, which had also distributed the Soul Train Records label during its two-year run.
Griffey died at the age of 71 on September 24, 2010. He was survived by his wife Carrie Lucas, a singer he married in 1974; four children and five grandchildren. His daughter, Carolyn Griffey, joined Shalamar in 2005. She currently performs as a member.

Today I’m thinking of The Glass House Band: an assembly of musicians put together by Holland Dozier Holland for their Invictus Record label in 1969. The group was led by Ty Hunter and included Scherrie Payne, sister of soul singer Freda Payne.[2] The group released two albums and had a string of chart hits through 1972, peaking with 1969's "Crumbs Off The Table", but once their popularity had dried up, Invictus dissolved the group.
I like the House of Glads song, I Can’t Be You ( You Can’t Be Me) released in 1970. It was #90 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart & #33 on the U.S. R&B chart.

That’s how Edwin would sing it y’all. Edwin was famous for his Norman Whitfield- produced Motown singles of the 1970s, most notably the number one hit, “War”. Whitfield first produced the song - an obvious anti–Vietnam War statement – with The Temptations as the original vocalists. After Motown began receiving repeated requests to release "War" as a single, Whitfield re-recorded the song with Edwin Starr as the vocalist, with the label deciding to withhold the Temptations' version from single release. Starr's version of "War" was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970, and is not only the most successful and well-known record of his career, but it is also one of the most popular protest songs ever recorded.
Edwin Starr despised war according to the lyrics. He said: Cause it means destruction of innocent lives. War means tears to thousands of mother’s eyes. When their sons go off to fight and lose their lives.

Ain't No Mountain High Enough" is a song written by Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson in 1966 for the Tamla label, a division of Motown. The composition was first successful as a 1967 hit single recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, and became a hit again in 1970 when recorded by former Supremes frontwoman Diana Ross. The song became Ross's first solo number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
When Barry Gordy chose Diana Ross to sing lead for the song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, I must admit that she was a good choice for that song. She had a soft & light voice and it was very soothing.

She sounded very sexy and persuasive with her words.

Simple words she made beautiful with her voice. It was like listening to a beautiful poem at first for someone who needed someone. And then Miss Ross began to sing, “

She sounded as if she was calling from a mountain. It didn’t matter how far away you were. You didn’t have to worry because high and low somebody was going to be there no matter what. That’s what Diana Ross was telling you. She had a way of reaching us with a powerful vocal.
Miss Ross sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” as if the song was her very own. There is so much feeling when you here it. Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye’s version was awesome and so was Diana’s version.

Jungle Boogie is a funk song recorded by Kool & the Gang for their 1973 album ‘Wild and Peace”. It reached number four as a single, and became very popular in nightclubs. The music and song really makes you think about the jungle with boogie style.

He’s not just about the beat though. There are other sounds he made too. All kinds of sounds. I’m going to give you an example. When I heard “Are You That Somebody” by Aaliyah, I thought , I have never heard a beat like that before. Aaliyah must have known what she was doing to work with Timbaland. They made a perfect combination.
Timbaland is a record producer. He produced for Aaliyah. He is a rapper, also singer, songwriter, and record executive. Not only did Timbaland producer for Aaliyah, he helped produce many albums for various artists.

Hello everyone! Today’s topic is Michael Jackson and The ET Extra - Terrestrial Album. A book is also included in the album. You can listen and read along. It was for the 1982 blockbuster film of the same name directed by Steven Spielberg. Composed by John Williams, and the album was narrated by Michael Jackson, produced by composer Quincy Jones and distributed by MCA Records.
Where I’m from, not many people have heard of the E.T. Album. I’m not sure if that many were sold at the time. I was lucky to see and buy the album. My favorite part of the album was hearing MJ sing, Someone In The Dark. At the time in the 80’s, not many people I know heard the song. I’ll sing a few lines.

I use to listen to Michael Jackson and sing along with him singing the song, Someone In the Dark. I could sing better in the past. I was a lot younger then, and was practicing more.
Michael’s voice sounded so angelic to me in singing a song. He had a sweet sounding voice. (Singing) He had a way of singing his words and expressing himself. When I heard Michael singing, Someone In The Dark, I was touched and felt some loneliness in my life just like he did. I think we all do sometimes. The song was written by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman and was composed by Rod Temperton.

Today’s topic: The Beatles - Let It Be
Later I’m going to tell you how me and my mom both laid down and had a dream about the song, Let It Be. But first, let’s talk about how it was written.
Let It Be is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, released on March 1970 as a single. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney, and credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership.
McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after he had a dream about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles ("the White Album") in 1968. Mary Patricia McCartney died of cancer in 1956, when he was fourteen. In rehearsing the song with the Beatles in January 1969, in place of the "Mother Mary" lyric, McCartney occasionally sang "Brother Malcolm", a reference to the Beatles' assistant Mal Evans. McCartney later said: "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'. In a later interview he said about the dream that his mother had told him, "It will be all right, just let it be."
It’s funny because when my mom was sick, we both heard the song by Paul McCartney “ Let It Be” on the same night in a dream. Me and my mom were very close.Somehow she knew she would die young. That’s something she felt and strongly believed. But I kept on having faith that she would not die.
When she died in the hospital, I prayed that God would bring her back, and God did and allowed her to live just a little while longer. The Lord had showed me a miracle, but it was still in God’s will for him to take my mother. The breath of my mother left again around noon time. I knew I had to let it be. Still feeling like it wasn’t the end, I knew that Christ was there and I heard him say some words to me. My mom died in the month of May of 2001. She was 53 years old.
“Let It Be” had the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning it’s chart run at number 6 and eventually reaching the top. It was the Beatles final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band. The song, “Let It Be” was recorded on Apple records.

Today’s topic: The Temprees.
Y’all remember the Temptees. (Singing)
The Temprees are a soul vocal trio from Memphis, Tennessee. They were most popular during the 70s. The band released several albums on We Produce Records, an offshoot of Stax Records. The group was first signed to Stax Records in 1970. Later they moved briefly in 1976 to Epic Records for two singles.
I love the groups song “ Explain it to Her Mama”. It’s from the album, The Best of the Temprees. I don’t know how they came up with the song, but it was a very good song to come up with. The lyrics tell the truth. I don’t know if the song was a hit, but it sure does sound like it was a hit. It’s telling a mama to teach her daughter. The song is a mama message song. I don’t hear it much on the radio on the oldies station. But it’s a good song to play.

I saw Soul Superstars of the 70’s from their commercial on television. I love their commercials. The commercial was showing so many singing groups and singers like George Benson, Whitney Houston, and Marvin Gaye. There were so many hit songs that were mentioned, and every singing group and singer was definitely a superstar.

Announcer: This very day, Tina Turner is still in the headline news. Now on Broadway, there’s a Tina Turner Musical-based on the rock and roll icon. She’s the Queen of Rock n Roll.
Turner began her career with Ike Turner’s King of Rhythm in 1957. Under the name Little Ann, she appeared on her first record, “Boxtop”, in 1958. In 1960, she was introduced as Tina Turner with the hit duet single “ A Fool in Love”. The duo Ike & Tina Turner became one of the most formidable live acts in history. They released hits such as Its Gonna Work Out Fine, River Deep - Mountain High, and Proud Mary.
Everybody knows about the kind of Relationship Ike and Tina Turner had. Tina left her husband and in the 1980’s Turner launched one of the greatest comebacks in music history. Her 1984 multi-platinum album Private Dancer contained the hit song What’s Love Got To Do With It, which won the Grammy Award for the Record of the Year and became her first and only No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. At age 44, she was the oldest female artist to top of the Hot 100.
Her chart success continued with We Don’t Need Another Hero which appeared in the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome which starred Tina Turner and Mel Gibson. And there were other songs like Private Dancer, I don’t want to fight No More, and Golden Eye which was the theme for the 1995 James Bond film, Golden Eye.
Tina did well with her comeback, and she has done it all without Ike, and she’s still making some headlines today.

Albert James "Alan" Freed. He was an American disc jockey.[1] He also produced and promoted large traveling concerts with various acts, helping to spread the importance of rock and roll music throughout North America.
In 1986, Freed was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His "role in breaking down racial barriers in U.S. pop culture in the 1950s, by leading white and black kids to listen to the same music, put the radio personality 'at the vanguard' and made him 'a really important figure'", according to the Executive Director.
Freed was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991. He became internationally known for promoting African-American rhythm and blues music on the radio in the United States and Europe under the name of rock and roll".
You know, the story of Alan Freed is sad to me. His career was destroyed in the end, but through it all, in my opinion, he was still a hero.

Robin Gibb wrote a song that explained those feelings, and it was performed by soul singer Jimmy Ruffin. The song was titled, “Hold On To My Love”. It was a song released in 1980. It reached #10 in the US. I never heard that song again for a long time after 1980. But I never forgot the chorus.

I need to add that both Robin Gibb & Blue Weaver we’re songwriters for the song & they were the producers. The song was released on Jimmy Ruffin’s album , “Sunrise”.
Oh, what a great song. I’m sure there are many great memories with it. It’s a song that always stayed with me. I’m sure it’s a song that always stayed with some of you.
Jimmy Ruffin is a legend and the song lives on. Robin Gibb is no longer with us and Blue Weaver is still with us. Thanks to the two of them we have a great song to remember. And thanks to soul singer Jimmy Ruffin. The title of the song is “Hold On To My Love”.

John Dolphin was also known as Lovin John, was an African American businessman, independent record label owner, concert promoter and music producer, who established Dolphin’s of Hollywood, an influential record store that remained open 24 hours a day.
John’s record store Dolphin’s of Hollywood was opened in 1948 on Central Avenue in Los Angeles Central Ave was a hub for jazz music in Los Angeles and attracted figures such as Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Joe Turner, Billy Holiday, Sam Cooke, and Charlie Parker. Hits like “Earth Angel by the doo-whoop, the Penguins, we’re first released during a live broadcast inside Dolphin’s of Hollywood. So it was like having a radio station inside of a record store. He had the idea of having a record label that would produce out of the record store.
In 1950, Dolphin started his first record label titled Recorded in Hollywood. Dolphin worked with artists such as Sam Cooke, Percy Mayfield, and Harry Caesar just to name a few. Dolphin produced several famous records under the Recorded in Hollywood label, and eventually created other labels.
The sad thing about John Dolphin is he was murdered in 1958 by an angry singer and shipping clerk Percy Ivy. He was upset because Dolphin wouldn’t give him a record deal. His wife, Ruth Dolphin, took over Dolphins of Hollywood after John’s death. She died in 2005.

Actor: It was 1968 that James Brown bought his first radio station you know. According to his biography, he got into the radio business because of all the things going on in the country. Well, he believed in human rights - not civil rights. James loved his country. Speaking out for his people was part of loving his country. So Mr. Brown bought WGYW, which he changed to WJBE, in Knoxville, Tennessee. 1430 AM.
Hi, I’m Gail Nobles. James Brown’s AM Radio Station broadcast a rhythm & blues and soul music format branded as “WJBE 1430”, Raw Soul, Another James Brown Station. Brown sold the station in 1979.
James Brown had a great reason for wanting to get into the radio business. It wasn’t about money. Brown was a blessed man to be able to do some of the things he wanted to do. He said in his biography he wanted his station to be a media training ground so black people could do more than be jocks. James Brown wanted them to learn advertising, programming, and management at all levels. JB had a big heart for people.

Hello I’m Gail Nobles, and you’re listening to Sound Flave(Radiae Applis). Everyday we hear some kind of sound. Sound of outcries., sound of frustration & anger, sound of war; sound of debate. But it gets better. There is also a sound of prayers, sound of hope; sound of joy.
Demons will come and tell you there is no future, but there is a city of angels above. You can’t always go by what you see, and what you hear down here. Sometimes you have have to tune the world out to hear the voice of promise, and you must endure. You can’t give up because if you give up, you’ll never see the promise.
I came not with the sound of radio, but with the sound of Radiae, and that sound is building a group of listeners. I call them Applis. They are like a city. Families are storing up fruit in the storehouses because yes, there will be hard times. We need wisdom to make it. That’s why I say pray for the apple growers because they have a hard time too. But God is a way maker, and he’s gonna make a way.

Hello! I’m Gail Nobles, and you’re listening to Sound Flave (Radiae Applis). Did you get your apples picked? Climate change can have an impact on apples. It can cause an early bloom and can have an affect on the taste of an apple. You’re lucky if the tree is not damaged altogether. Climate change can make you work even harder. Sometimes it’s not easy taking care of the fruit.
I’d like to tell a story. The title of the story is “The Giving Tree”. There was an apple tree that fed many. One day HE was cut down, and it hurt the hearts of many.
And there was a voice in the wind saying, “I will be again and stand until the earth pass away. Other roots will grow. I AM the root and parent tree and will bare fruit.” And that’s what the apple tree did that was cut down.
When the people saw another little tree sproughting out from the stump of the tree (the parent tree), the people rejoiced and had great faith and hope. The people dug up some of the little trees around the parent tree (the stump) planted and neglected near an old barn. They replanted some of the little trees, and when they grew to bare apples, the neighbors shared with those that had none. The trees that were replanted began to grow other little trees, and they were dug up and given to those that had none.
And there was a voice in the wind again saying, “I will bare fruit for you always.”
You see, a good thing came to those that shared which was a blessing for all. The blessing was sent down from heaven up above.

Today’s topic: The Dare Me Song by the Pointer Sisters
Dare me is a 1985 song that the Pointer Sisters recorded issued by RCA Records. The lead vocal is June Pointer.
A video was made for the song. The video was a very neat way to present the Dare Me song in my opinion. At the beginning, I love the way the Pointer Sisters walked in the gym stepping’ in their suits and hats. The group was also dressed for the boxing ring sparring with Mark Breland who is now a retired world champion boxer.
Dare Me was the first release from the Pointer Sisters’ Contact album. It was written by Sam Lorber & Dave Innis. The song peaked at number 11 on the Hot 100 in Billboard magazine, a final Top Ten hit on the magazine’s R&B chart peaking at number 6 and also became the only Pointer Sisters’ track to reach number 1 on the Billboard’s Dance Chart. It reached the top twenty in the UK singles chart and the top ten in Australia. I could go on and on. It became a worldwide hit.
At the end of the video for the song, you see three ladies in the ring showing off their neat dresses. Three beautiful fashion ladies. The Pointer Sisters.

Sound Flave: Greetings everyone! Sometimes I think about turning my podcast into Internet radio, but I don’t see where there is much difference between a podcast & Internet radio. They are both heard through Internet on your computer.
I wonder how it would be if I could move my podcast towards the AM and FM direction. Radio still has more listeners. But podcasts are also making it with listeners. It seems as if a podcast could be just as much or just as big as radio. Advertising is in both, and you can make money in both. But radio still has more listeners. However, things are not always as they seem.
I want Sound Flave to be something big and special, but I also think small. I think small as far as Sound Flave being my very own show without radio. But if the podcast was on FM or AM, it could get a whole lot more listeners. On the other hand, my podcast might make it for a while, but what if things get complicated? What if my podcast get dropped? I would be right back where I started. Podcasting. Besides, podcasting is easier to deal with than radio.
Well, I guess I’ll sit back and have myself a soft drink, and think on things a little more.

John Legend
A legend before his time with a legendary style. He’ll never go away. He’s alive this present day. Legend sings a song titled Ordinary People.
When I first heard him, his music was not a lot. Just a grand piano and singing voice singing what we know and can relate to.
John’s last name is Legend. He’s a traditional story already and popular I think. Very well known. I know him by his song Ordinary People singing about you and I or two people in love. One misbehaves and one make mistakes. I love the part when he said:
I hang up you call
We rise and we fall
And we feel like just walking away.
As we love advances, we take second chances
Though it’s not a fantasy
I still wan you to stay ____ John Legend
Legend makes people listen to themselves with his voice and music. Ordianry people was released on his debut album lifted in 2004 as second single and later certified gold by the RIAA.
At the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, Ordinary People received three nomintions for Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best male R&B Vocal Performance, ultimately winning the latter.

Good evening! This is Sound Flave, and I’d like to say pray for the harvest and apple growers. I read in a headline that said “Fewer Apples Are Heading To Market” We’ve got to pray for the apple grower’s struggle. Apples are medicine, and we want them to grow. Galatians 6:9 Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Genesis 8:22 While the earth remains the, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
I think about Sound Flave; how I got to keep the flavor up. I can design and draw a city, but can it be built? Can I build the audience for the podcast? I don’t know where I’m going with it. For now, I’m just building episodes and hope that people will listen. You can build so much, and something could come along and try to tear it down.
Exodus 34:21 Six days shalt thou work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest. Earing-time is an old English word for plowing.
Yes, we do need rest. Thank God for that. And sometimes we need to slow down and look at what we’re doing, think about what we’re doing, and pray about what we’re doing. We think we do it all on our own, but we don’t.

I’ve been hearing Candi Staton’s song Young Hearts Run Free most of my life and always believed in the song. I first heard it when I was a little girl and understood the lyrics. I knew that Candi was singing her life experience. Candi was singing about the hurt and the pain. The music made me tap my feet, but the words were acted out by some people around me. That’s what made me pay attention. Candi Staton was also singing the lives of others. Men and women fighting all of the time, but staying together forever with children. Married couples cheating on one another. In those days, I didn’t know what divorce was and the woman alone and the man dropped in and out.
That’s when I understood
What's the sense in sharing, this one and only life
Endin' up, just another lost and lonely wife
You'll count up the years, and they will be filled with tears
Love only breaks up, to start over again

In those days when I heard a song, I only heard the music. But for some reason, I could hear Candi’s words through her music.
As I got older, I understood more.
It's high time now just one crack at life
Who wants to live in, in trouble and strife
My mind must be free, to learn all I can about me
What I learned growing up was marriage was forever. You had responsibilty. It could get in the way of you doing things in life that you always wanted to do. I would argue with my parents and tell them I was never going to be married. But that’s just the way that I felt and still feel unless my feelings change. How do you feel? To me, it’s more than a thought.
"Young Hearts Run Free" is a disco song written by David Crawford and originally recorded by soul singer Candi Staton in 1976. The song spent a week at number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart. It also peaked at number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Young Hearts Run Free" was one of only two songs by Staton to reach the top 10 on the UK singles chart. In 1999 Candi Staton recorded a new dance version of "Young Hearts Run Free". It peaked at #29 in the UK.

At some point in our lives, we’ve had to try something new and different. And because Sound Flave is not radio, I’ve had to try something new and different. There are no records to play. It’s not allowed in the podcast world. Sound Flave is Radiae. I’ve got to start from the bottom. I’ve got to start from scratch. I’ve got to make something happen. In the podcast world, it’s all about voice. I’ve got to make my own music to talk about music. So in that sense, podcasting is harder than radio.
The podcast could be done a lot quicker, and making my own sounds can make it a lot longer. It’s like learning a new course. I won’t mention all the other things I’ve got to do. Hello everyone. I hope you are enjoying Sound Flave. I’m your host Gail Nobles, and today I want to talk to you about Radiae Applis. It is like a podcast entertainment studio hall. It’s like a city of listeners. There’s a place for listeners. It grows from one ear to the other from place to place through wifi and online. It’s building it’s way up from Spreaker.com. It started out with one episode and now there are four. There must be more.
Applis is a place for music. Applis is a place for the announcer. It is all about sound and flavor. Sound Flave is the main title. Radiae Applis is the subtitle and core. It is the seed. And what I’m bringing you today is that flavor of sound. The sound from the harvest.
Let’s talk about Patrice Rushen. (Music)
Patrice Rushen is a jazz pianist and R&B singer. She is also a composer, record producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music director. Her 1982 single “Forget Me Nots’ received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

Patrice made a cool video on her 1982 single Forget Me Nots. It appears on her seventh album, Straight from the Heart. You know "Forget Me Nots" are flowers that symbolize enduring love despite absence or separation. I must say Patrice Rushen is a great song writer and great in music.
