With the changing threat surface presenting new and evolving challenges, Anthony speaks with Shanna Daly to discuss her views on digital forensics and incident response. They delve into the ‘how’ and ‘why’, which requires looking for proof of how something happened, from low-level investigations to evidence-based hypotheses of what is likely to have occurred.
Shanna explains how understanding the connection between digital forensics and incident response helps help paint a picture of attribution that is factually accurate but also, identifies oversights or errors that can be removed or minimised.
The discussion then turns to cognitive bias with implications of it being ignored or dismissed, having the potential to impact individuals, businesses and, the industry as a whole.

At AusCERT, we believe that Diversity & Inclusion champions are leaders who take responsibility for instilling a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Pip Jenkinson, CEO and Co-Founder of Baidam Solutions is the inaugural winner of this AusCERT award. For those unfamiliar with Pip, his work at Baidam emphasises the importance of partnerships with some of Australia’s largest employers to create job opportunities and funding for cybersecurity certification training. Baidam gives a significant percentage of the company’s profits to providing pathways to employment in the IT sector for Indigenous and First Nations people. Pip’s and Baidam’s journey is an inspiring story and shows a great example of how organisations can combine profit with social good.
