Canton Community TV in Canton MA offers listeners its local programs "on-the-go" via audio. Programs include interviews with community leaders, town event coverage, policy and voting questions, anything impacting those who live in Canton. Some policy interviews may engage the interest of those living in surrounding towns and the State of MA. Witness: Sgt. Yuriy Bukhenik of the MA State police. Continues under direct from ADA Lally on number of drinks the defendant appears to have had (9). Discussion of missing ring video not there from John O'Keefe's home. More discussion on glass found at 34 Fairview (where John O'Keefe was found.)

Defense Attorney Jackson on Cross: On discussion of activity log from "ring" from John O'Keefe's home which would show deletions or activity from Karen Read (none found.) Initial indications of a strike by a cocktail glass is discussed. Discussion on where glass items were found on the Fairview lawn and how it was documented. Ring camera video on Read car appearing to hit O'Keefe's car while reversing when headed out to find O'Keefe by seeing the wheel when zoomed in on O'Keefe's car move.

This is the jury selection process. The pool camera is only allowed to cover the Judge Beverly Cannone opening statements to the jury pool, which is the same each day.

The judge opens with her ruling regarding third party culprit, saying that the request by the defense (Alan Jackson and David Yannetti, Elizabeth Little) to include a statement that the victim was beaten and not struck by a vehicle would cause the burden of proof to be on the accused, which she will not do. She will allow the third party culprit defense to develop via questioning and competent evidence. (Prosecutors in the case: Assistant District Attorneys Adam Lally & Laura McLaughlin.)

On the jury pool:

The pool is asked a series of questions: Do you know anyone on the list of witnesses/Do you have a financial interest in the case/Have you discussed the case/Have you formed an opinion about this case/Would serving be a hardship, etc. Then each comes to sidebar where the judge and the attorneys for both the prosecution and the defense interact with each juror. Each side can dismiss jurors for no cause, though that number is limited.

This is Day 1's opening statement to the jury by the judge. Day 2 and 3 of jury selection was very similar.

At the end of Week ONE, 12 jurors were selected. The court now needs alternate jurors which will be going through the selection process of Monday May 22.

ADA Lally states that an FBI reference to an investigation prejudices the jury
Defense: Says states that the prosecution states it would be unfair to reference the FBI investigation because it was shaped by the defense. The FBI does its own investigation and the defense has no influence on that. It's important that the jury knows where this evidence comes from. From the federal government and not the DA's office. That this evidence has come forward by a neutral third party and the jury should know this.
ADA Lally regarding third party culprit and Bowden defense. Wants to know what the defense intends to do regarding that.
Defense Yannetti goes into the third party defense theory details, including federal experts that say John O'Keefe was not killed by a car. Therefor a third party was responsible for his mortal injuries. Discusses video loss when the car is in the Canton Sallyport.

Karen Read Hearing of March 26, 2024

Filling in for David Yannetti is sister Tanis Yannetti who requests notes from a meeting the DA had with witnesses.

ADA Lally states he is not sure what the defense is referring to under Rule 17. Discussions were regarding witness harassment. They are work products.

Yannetti responds that it is difficult to believe that the Karen Read case did not come up in these conversations. Lally states to the judge that there is nothing to report.

Discussion on DNA from the lab. DA Lally is not sure when the results will be in. Depends on the integrity of the sample.

Defense states it has just received 400 pages and a thumb drive with unknown material on it. Judge asks how long the defense expects to take at trial. Mr. Jackson on the defense team states that the discovery obligation by the state is not finished so they cannot say until then who their experts will be.

Judge tells Lally he needs to know what the DNA lab will have and by when at the next court hearing.

Karen Read Hearing of March 20, 2024:

There is no objection to Rule 17 regarding internal affairs docs on Trooper Proctor.

Defense Lawyer David Yannetti: Wants contact information between Special Agent Higgins (who was there at the after-party socially) Boston Officer Brian Albert (homeowner of property where the after-party took place) Canton Police officer Kevin Albert (brother of Brian.) He also wants records of Canton Chief Berkowitz. (Chief Berkowitz, who was on medical leave at the time of the death, found taillight fragments on the lawn while driving past Brian Albert's home several days after John O'Keefe's body was found. O'Keefe was found shortly after 6AM on the lawn of Brian Albert's home the morning of the Jan. 29th "after-party.") Yannetti emphasizes that this is no fishing expedition.

ADA Lally Response: They all knew each other. Of course they'd talk. It's the ultimate fishing expedition.

Lawyer for Brian Albert, Greg Henning: We do not have the Rule 17 order. Objects to phone being released. Can say in open court that Brian Albert is not a subject of this investigation by the FBI.

The judge is surprised. DA Lally apologizes for not supplying the order to the these attorneys despite the judge telling him to do so. He says he did it out of an "abundance of caution" regarding the federal order not to disclose certain information.

Attorney Connolly for Special Agent Brian Higgins: The FBI has allowed him to confirm in open court that Higgins is not a target of the FBI investigation. He is not willing to give over his phone given Mr. Higgins position as a Federal Agent.

Defense Attorney Yannetti: Higgins changes his story regarding calling Brian Albert at 2:22AM, before the body was found. Brian Albert changes his story and said it was a butt call during sex. Butts on the bed with phones on the night table. Never heard of so many butt calls as in this case. We know these calls took place because, thank God, another agency did the investigating. (Defense was largely unsuccessful in asking for these records back in May of 2023.) They (Feds) have these records. We do not. We need them to present them in court.

In this March 12, 2024 9AM hearing there are details given by Defense attorney Jackson on the motion to dismiss the case. He was given ten minutes and is surprised because they were told they could have "all day" if needed. Grounds he sites:

Chris Albert (brother of Brian--body of Officer O'Keefe was found on his front lawn) relationship with Sgt. Lank regarding a bar fight. Investigator/State Trooper Proctor is described as "second family" to the Alberts but hid this from the grand jury.

Canton officer Kevin Albert coordinates the investigation. Google search "how long to die in cold" by someone who was at the after party at 2:27AM is hidden from the jury. (O'Keefe's body was found after shortly after 6AM on the lawn where the party took place.)

ADA Lally says the commonwealth never knowingly deceived the jury. The Lank incident was 20 years ago. Brian Albert did not come out of his house but neither did neighbors. I was cold outside.

Continuing: There was no fight. No dog attack. Ask that you deny motion to dismiss.

Defense Rebuttal: FBI says John O'Keefe's injuries were inconsistent with contact with a car. Integrity is missing from this investigation. DA Michael Morrissey's video calling Karen Read guilty is misconduct. Gag orders were attempted. He called the defense theory desperate. And there was a group conference call with witnesses before the grand jury hearing took place. Morrissey's interest is not justice.

DA Response: That video was six months ago. He had no choice because of a rolling rally calling the witnesses murderers. DA Morrissey had to respond. Kearney's (Journalist that first called the case suspicious, known as Turtleboy) (State) seized phone shows Read spoke to Kearney. The Phone doesn't lie.

Karen Read's attorney in this hearing says there is too much data given by Federal investigators on Feb. 22nd to be ready for trial in March. The date was extended to April 16th, 2024. Commonwealth argues there's not a lot of new information in what the federal government gave them.

In this hearing Special Prosecutor Ken Mello asks Judge Squires-Lee to bring sanctions against Kearney's attorney Tim Bradl for misidentifying as an attorney (the other as a paralegal) two persons so that they could speak to Kearney unrecorded. (Kearney is currently in jail for bail violations of a witness intimidation charge for a domestic that allegedly took place on Dec. 24th.)

Attorney Bradl said the Attorney classification was an obvious error (calling one an attorney and the other a paralegal. One works with Bradl and the other works for a first amendment rights non-profit. Their actual credentials were never made clear in court.) and that the motion said there were 60 calls when there were actually 6.

Preposed Sanctions included 10K in fines against Bradl and the court would monitor ALL future communications between Mr. Kearney and anyone else, including his attorney. This client/attorney privilege elimination was admitted to be unprecedented by DA Mello, but justified Mello believes, because the misidentification of the two as attorneys. He felt it was done with intent so that one of the woman, "a minion" of Kearney's according to the DA, could be instructed to further intimidate witnesses in the Karen Read case.

This fascinating exchange between the judge and DA Mello is real-life court. What is evidence? How much power does a judge have to levy these punishments Mello preposes? And under what circumstances, if any, should a defendant be stripped of his client/attorney privilege?

Dr. Kristin Noone has extensive experience as a manager and consultant for a variety of industries and has worked as a leader in the non-profit sector. She is the former President and CEO of Noone Consulting, Inc., a marketing and strategic planning consulting firm, which was originally founded in Arizona then relocated to Massachusetts. For over a decade, Dr. Noone has been teaching a wide breadth of courses in the communication, management, and marketing fields at both two-year and four-year institutions including Curry College, Bunker Hill Community College, and Colorado Technical University. Dr. Noone is currently a tenured professor at Quincy College, and recently led a team in the creation of the first bachelor’s degree program ever offered at Quincy College.

Highlights:

Karen Read's Attorney, David Yannetti, says 6 letters moved to be suppressed by the prosecution that are between the US Attorney's Office and DA Michael Morrissey do not meet the standard for suppression and will be made public anyway when Yannetti moves to sanction the DA's office.
Thought the Attorney's Office has no objection to the letters being made public, DA Lally argues that that isn't the reason his office wants them to be suppressed. They are under a grand jury and should not yet be made public.
Discussion over the notes and interviews and recordings and other correspondence between a reporter for Boston Magazine and Karen Read. Boston Magazine attorney argues that the "off the record" notes should not be made available to the prosecution. That it will have a chilling effect on reporting and that reporters should never be used as witnesses. The judge wants Boston Magazine to present court soon rulings in Massachusetts that support his argument.
DA Lally argues that no special protections in Massachusetts for reporters and that they only want the correspondence between the reporter and Read. The judge expresses concern for the reporters safety as she has been threatened.
Karen Read's lawyer says federal office will release evidence on the Morrissey case and he wants to wait until after that release to argue for sanctions.
Hearing is scheduled for February 15th.

Highlights:

Many protesters were outside the hearing of Karen Read who is accused of hitting her boyfriend with her car, Boston Police officer John O'Keefe, with intent after dropping him off for an after-hours party at Boston Police officer Brian Albert's home in Canton, MA. The defense contends O'Keefe was murdered in the house.

Several motions, including the defense request seeking that the Norfolk DA's office be disqualified in this case.

Discussion regarding DNA on the taillight.
The defense says Elizabeth Proctor, wife of investigator State Trooper Proctor, privacy rights are outweighed by Karen Read's right to a fair trial. At contention is the degree of friendship between the Proctors and prosecution witnesses who were inside the home and how it impacted the investigation and evidence.
Jennifer McCable's lawyer, who is alleged friends with Elizabeth Proctor, and who found with Read, O'Keefe's body outside the home in in the early morning hours, says Rule 17 is being weaponized against his client.
Prosecutor Lally does not concede a personal relationship between the Alberts and the McCabe's and State Trooper Proctor.
Defense submits to the judge that they do not have to submit their DNA results to the prosecution, as that isn't how the system works.
Judge says the troopers have not given their consent to their DNA being released.

Galvin Middle School Community Forum Number 4 of Nov. 29, 203

On building a new middle school on the Galvin School footprint:

Summarizes the last 3 meetings. The time-line on the project is laid out. Stake holders will vote on what and number of grades they want to see at the Middle School. Do they want a separate auditorium? Or one that's also part gym or part cafeteria. When the proposal might appear before town meeting and go for a vote before the entire town and much more important information.

Aiden Kearney's lawyer argues that Kearney should get his tools of investigation (phone, computers) that were taken in a seizure of his home after a warrant was given to search his house and his being charged with witness intimidation. Kearney's lawyer says his client is being prosecuted by the same people his journalism exposed in the Karen Read murder case. The defense argued that he's involved with a client accused of murder and these same prosecutors returned that client's phone within a day because of a process called "mirroring" which gathers all the material on the devices. If given back in that case, certainly, the defense argues, Kearney should get his devices of his profession returned.

The prosecution argues that Kearney is an activist and not a journalist (journalist enjoy no special legal protections in Massachusetts over regular citizens say for tradition) and even if "generously" seen as a journalist, that the State argued that the defense might say that material on the mirror image was made up. The prosecution argues respectfully to the judge that it is prudent for the judge to allow a higher court to decide on this matter. The prosecution argues Kearney is still blogging and there's no impedance to his doing his work.

The defense counters that sources who have risked so much to expose elements in the Karen Read case are on that phone and will be exposed to the State. That this is an unprecedented prosecution of a journalist. That those sources on the phone should be protected.

Bail hearing review hearing continued to this date. Kearney's YouTube channel has taken the prosecution in the Karen Read case "to the woodshed" in the words of his attorney and now his attorney says he's being prosecuted by that same law enforcement that has been lost "in the fog of war" in its mission against Kearney, but has not made a solid argument for the charges--witness intimidation and conspiracy--under due process.

The judge shows his frustration with this new argument, that is outside the freedom of speech argument already brought forward, saying the prosecution needs time to address it.

This back and forth is fascinating not only because the case has huge implications to journalists and protestors, but is a great education of how real-life court proceedings work. As the lawyer's lack of familiarity with the depths of this case is exposed, as well as the judge's as both make errors of fact regarding what was and was not said on Kearney's Youtube channel.

This fascinating discussion exposes the imperfections of our judicial system, erasing our TV drama ideals, and makes those who follow this and the Karen Read case get a deeper understanding of how the real justice system works.

Blogger Aidan Kearney, AKA Turtleboy, who has been reporting on the Karen Read case, was arrested on "witness intimidation" charges where he had his phones and computers taken and his home searched. This hearing was to adjust the conditions of his release which included his not being near those involved in the Karen Read case. Arguing that this is a first amendment issue, his lawyer sent a memorandum not long before this hearing. Consequently, it was postponed to Wednesday, November 1st at 3pm. Listen as important indications during this discussion may signal how this ruling may go.

A new Mobile Kitchen will help with cooking classes for teens and adults. November events include teen apple pie making. The kitchen classes will have heritage foods, culture, vegetarian foods, deal with varied abilities, etc.

Prosecutors allege that Karen Read hit her boyfriend, Boston Police officer John O'Keefe, at about 12:45AM with her car when she left him off at a party on Fairview Road in Canton, MA and "left him to die in the middle of a snowstorm" after the two got into an argument earlier in the evening while the couple and Okeefe's work associates were at a local bar. She has been charged with second degree murder.

The defense argues in this hearing that their client has been kept from receiving important evidence through discovery after more than a year, with the Distract Attorney offering only "on-going excuses" as to why the defense has not received important physical evidence. The defense further argues that because of lack of State cooperation and due to the cost of private testing, bail should be lowered to help pay for these private tests. That their client is not a flight risk and will turn over her passport.

In this hearing the defense goes deeper in their attacks against the State, claiming that investigators intentionally said no plows went by the home in the early morning hours, but a plow driver did drive by at about 2:30am and saw no body in the yard in the early morning hours, but saw a "Ford Edge" parked in front of the house for about an hour, they say, further supporting the defense's theory that John O'Keefe was not killed when Karen Read left him off, but was bludgeoned in the house and brought out to the front of the home to die much later.

Karen Read Hearing of Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in its entirety .

A quickly scheduled hearing called by the DA's office coming just before the long scheduled hearing of May 25th happened on Wednesday, May 24th 2023 at 10AM. The State moved to not allow the defense subpoenas of the phones of Jennifer McCabe and Brian Albert and to not allow either to testify at the May 25 hearing. Lawyers for both McCable and Albert objected to the defense's subpoenas. The State DA's office also objected. The attorneys for Karen Read said the material was evidence and material to the case, was specific in time frame, and was not a broad ''fishing expedition" as they said was characterized by the DA's office. The judge agreed with the DA's office, eliminating the need for a hearing on May 25th. The next hearing is scheduled for July 25, 2023 at 2pm. Canton Community intends to cover that hearing LIVE.

From the Canton Public Library: The Canton Chapter of the American Association of University Women invited Stonehill Professor, Tracy Rosebrock to speak about her research on CMV; a leading cause of preventable deafness in children.

This young researcher talks too about the AAUW scholarship, life changing as women's careers are not always a straight shot, as children and family can stall a woman researcher's trajectory, making research funding difficult to get. But Rosebrock is also concerned about the ignored virus's impact because, though the medical establishment does not want to "unnecessarily worry women" because there is so little treatment, Rosebrock argues that it's also very preventable (hand washing and not to share fluids with children while pregnant) and so pregnant women need to understand this virus.

A fascinating discussion on the science, the impact narrow standards can have on information women get, and also how the AAUW helps women researchers and Rosebrock's commitment to giving pregnant women agency through knowledge.

The Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston has long been a thriving nexus of cultures, with residents of all walks of life. Though Mission Hill is less than one square mile, it is a neighborhood constantly in transition. What it lacks in land area, Mission Hill makes up for in character, while remaining one of Boston's most diverse neighborhoods. The Farmers Market in Canton, MA (in front of Canton High until October 23) had a special sustainability education event held recently. Canton Community Tv's Tim O'Connor interviews vendors at the event to talk about what they do (and what we might do) to help with a sustainable ecology.

Recently (Summer 2022) the Tilden House in Canton, MA had an archeological group look at artifacts and sift sand looking for more clues on how people lived at this 1725 home located on Pleasant Street (across from the "Rez"). From the Canton Public Library: Local Author Panel (Part II) on writing for the LGBTQ+ Community. Join the library as it hosts a conversation with local authors as they discuss their books and the impact they have on readers.

In the Spotlight: Rosie Sampson talks about "Memory Cafe’s" with CCTV's Andrea Galvin. A "Memory Cafe" is a social setting for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia or even mild cognitive impairment. It is designed to include the care partner as well for a shared social experience.

The Memory Cafe in Canton is on the 4th Thursday of Every month at the Canton Public Library at 1:30 PM. It’s free and no registration is needed--just drop by.

From the Paul Revere Heritage Site: Lt. Helena Rafferty was sworn in as Canton's 14 Police Chief on Tuesday, June 14 with State troopers, the police staff, three former chiefs, and Celtic bag players present. Speakers include retiring Chief, Ken Berkowitz, Select Board Chair, John Connolly, and Canton Representative, Bill Galvin, along with several short statements from Canton's clergy. Lisa Lopez is the third woman in all of Canton's history to be elected to the Select Board, which for most of Canton's history was called the Board of Selectmen. In this program she discusses her personal history, how she came to Canton, and why she is on the Canton Select Board.

World War II veteran of the US Army's 26th Yankee Division, Bob DeYeso, age 97, spoke at the Memorial Day services in Canton as he has for many years. Canton representative and native, Bill Galvin, also spoke along with members of the Select Board and Chair, John Connolly, Veteran's Agent, Arafat Knight, Brigadier Generals, fire services and many others. From the perspective of someone living on the autism spectrum, author Sam Farmer interweaves real stories of personal triumphs with advice for overcoming adversity. The author is a farmer, a father, husband, musician and computer consultant, living in Easton, MA. Diagnosed late in life as being on the spectrum, he shares his insights on happiness despite adversity.

In keeping with the town book theme, "How to be a Good Creature" this program, "Keeping Chickens in the Garden," explains how to keep chickens in your backyard. Gretel Anspach is a Master Gardener and Trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and has years of experience on the topic. The Canton Public Library's Carolyn Elkort introduces the program. "The Alchemist Baker," owner and Pastry Chef, Ambreen Hasan, talks with CCTV's Andrea Galvin about her shop at the corner of Washington and Mechanic Streets in Canton, MA. Her specialty is making a variety of scones and she demonstrates how she makes them in this piece (See video at CantonCommunityTv.org). But it is a full bakery with everything from pastries, cookies, cakes to pies. She caters and can make gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free pastries upon request. Canton Residents for a Sustainable, Equitable Future (CR4SEF) is presenting an Earth Day Celebration at The Museum of American Bird Art at the Mass Audubon Sanctuary, 963 Washington Street in Canton on Sunday, April 24 from 1-4 pm. Jennifer Wexler, president of the Canton Residents for a Sustainable, Equitable Future, talks about the events planned, including tree and shrub giveaways, guided nature tours on the Mass Audubon trails, and a community clean-up of the pollinator gardens at the sanctuary. She also discusses the other activities of Canton Residents for a Sustainable, Equitable Future, and how people can join the group.

This wildly popular presentation at the Canton library featured cat behaviorist, Dr. Rachel Geller. She talks about cats, why they do what they do and how we might understand their behavior better. She helps, for free, thousands of owners who have cat problems that may force them to give their cat up, keep the cats they love. Up to Speed: Canton Reads 2022. “How to be a Good Creature” by Sy Montgomery is the town's book this year. Canton's Public Library (CPL) is hosting animal events all month as part of the celebration that will also be covered by CCTV. CCTV's Andrea Galvin talks with CPL director, Andrea Capone, on the book and the details of the creature themed programs coming to the library for the month of April as well as a discussion on this very accessible book that both Andreas say will be enjoyed by all.

One of Canton Community Tv's founders, Tony Andreotti, passed this week (April of 2022.) Tony served on the committee that started this organization in 1983. He served on the Board at Norton Hospital, was Canton's town treasurer but is probably best known serving as Canton's Veteran's Agent.

Tom Letson is a singer/songwriter in the Piedmont, and Appalachian traditions. His style has also been described as an Old-Time musician. He plays resonator guitar, banjo, and fiddle. Starting on the East Coast, he's explored this country on foot, by rail and by thumb, with his guitar and not much else. He talked to CCTV from his base in Haines, Alaska.

Musician Peter Lehndorff talks with CCTV's David Wells about his banjo, his songs, his writings, his remix of his albums, and the songs that'll be in the upcoming LIVE STREAM for the Open Book Coffee House, which will take place March 19th on the web at 7:30pm and streamed on Canton Community Tv. (GOTO CantonCommunityTv.org for station details). David compares the songwriters sense of humor in his songs with John Prine, though Peter notes some of his songs have a more serious tilt. Walk, Bike and Hike Committee member, Jeff Sullivan, talks with CCTV's Andrea Galvin about the upcoming effort to "Keep Canton Beautiful" on April 30th, 2022 from 10AM to Noon. He talks about Neponset Street and Rt. 138 but that those roads are too dangerous for volunteers. (Jeff reached out to the Neponset County Sheriff who said he will have inmates clean those roads.) The school areas, fields and trails and downtown and other areas have all been targeted for the clean-up by volunteers. Town Meeting approved by 2/3rds vote to use override funds to purchase the property at St. Gerard's. That puts the question before the entire town in the form of a ballot vote. Town Clerk Tracy Kenney explains the purpose of the December 14th town-wide vote and available hours for early voting as well as voting by mail.

The purchase of St. Gerard's requires approval at special town meeting December 1st and many other ''moving parts." The Bradley Estate in Canton, MA was significant in the movie. Many Trustees of Reservation estates were used. Peter talks about his memory of the Bradley Estate when it was owned Elenor Bradley of the Cabots who "only speak to God."

Caroline Kautsire 10-20-21

Caroline Kautsire is originally from Malawi, Africa, and is currently an English literature and writing professor at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. She is the author of the book What Kind of Girl? and has published poetry and flash fiction that explores themes such as searching for identity, social justice, and women’s empowerment. She talks about her life growing up in Malawi and her experiences after coming to America.

Jeffrey Archer 10-23-21

Jeffrey Archer is one of the world’s bestselling authors, with sales of over 275 million copies in 97 countries, and is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (twenty times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction ( The Prison Diaries). He was born in London, and brought up in the West Country. He gained a Blue in Athletics at Oxford, was President of the University Athletics Club, and went on to run the 100 yards in 9.6 seconds for Great Britain in 1966. Jeffrey has served five years in the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament, and twenty-nine years as a Member of the House of Lords. He talks about some of his inspirations and methods in writing books and shares some interesting stories. A fascinating man.

Keri-Ann Wagner, Counselor, Med, LMHC, of "Path to Healing " in South Easton talks with Canton Community Tv's Andrea Galvin about her program using horseback riding to help heal veterans from trauma. From yoga, tai chi, to cooking and group counseling, the holistic approach Wagner says, helps veterans transitioning to civilian life.

Ted Reinstein, best known for WCVB's “Chronicle Magazine," has written another book, "Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball’s Color Barrier." It tells the 1945 story where a liberal Boston City Councilman, Izzy Muchnick, persuaded the Red Sox to try out three black players. New County Commissioner but well known Canton resident, Richard Staiti, talks with CCTV's Tim O'Connor about money available that can help cities and towns like Canton using newly instituted ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds. This is money lost to communities due to COVID-19. How is the money applied for? How do communities get those funds and who can ask for them? Mr. Staiti explains the process and some projects he hopes to help, including problems with Aggie School and the courts where there is a desperate need for internet modernization.

After the NYC towers fell, FM Generator located in Canton, MA went to the site to get cell phone tower power back up and to help the stock exchange get power back. CCTV's Tim O'Connor interviewed members of the company back then and spoke to Mike Molway and Julie Mitchell in this episode, on this 20th Anniversary of the attacks.

The day is part of "International Overdoes Awareness Day" which aims to bring down the stigma of a drug related to deaths. Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse is an organization that recognizes substance use disorder and works to support recovery and prevention. Harriet lost a son to an overdose in 2004.

Sports drinks are popular for hydration for extreme workouts, but are they the best thing for all of us? CCTV's Tim O'Connor examines how we might hydrate during these hot summer days and if we might be able to hydrate and replace electrolytes without all the salt and sugars and artificial colors in many so-called sports drinks. He examines the difference between drinks during a workout and recovery drinks. He takes a look at fresh drinks we might consider making for ourselves without the salt and sugars and colorings. What can communities like Canton do for its residents as it meets the challenges of severe weather due to climate change? Canton's Town Planner, Laura Smead, explains to CCTV's, Tanya Willow about Canton's updated "Master Plan" which, for the first time, contains strategies to deal with severe weather and limiting the community's C02 emissions. Through grants and computer modeling, realistic strategies to help Canton take on heat, flooding and extreme weather are being developed. What can the town ask of developers? Can changes in how roads and parking spaces are built help with heat and flooding? How do plants help with run-off and water pollution? Can cooling trees not on scenic ways be protected? What role does open space play in keeping residents cool and protected? Does Canton have cooling facilities if there is a long-term electrical outage? What is the town's short and long term plan to meet this difficult issue and what might Canton look like in 20, 30, even 50 years as a result of this challenge? On the lawn in front of Canton High the farmers' market brought in over 1,000 visitors early. The sense of optimism mixed with caution and the need for earthly connection is captured in this segment by CCTV's Tim O'Connor as he interviews community leaders such as Harriet Burak and Reuki Schutt, vendors pleased by the number of visitors, and customers happy to be outside again.

Veterans' Agent, Arafat Knight, talks with Tim O'Connor about his service to country and how PTSD can effect Veterans, including himself. In this straightforward and honest interview, Arafat Knight talks about the realities of being a veteran and servicing that community. He also talks about the support he gets from Canton's administrators, its volunteer Honor Guard, built by his predecessor, Tony Andreotti, and the traditions he will maintain. He also gives details to Tim about specific ceremonies in town to honor veterans.

Weather initially brings the ceremonies inside to the Edward Beaty American Legion Post 24, as town officials join with Canton's Veteran Agent, Arafat Knight, to recognize those of Canton who died while in military service. Petty Officer Ernie Trombley, Com., John Carrington and Brigadier General, Frank LaBollita are among the high ranking officers who joined the celebration. Canton High School's David Turcotte talks with CCTV's Tim O'Connor about plans for Friday, June 4th graduation. Mr. Turcotte explains graduation ceremonies are back on the traditional football field this year but configurations are a bit different from normal years. DESE--Department of Education & Secondary Education--sent out pandemic guidelines for all MA schools for graduation ceremonies weeks back as schools need plan, even as guidelines from the governor may update. Neponset River Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Thomas O'Rourke, talks CCTV's Andrea Galvin about the regional support grant to help area restaurants recover from Covid-19. June 7-11 is restaurants week where there will be special pricing for customers. Canton's Town Planner, Laura Smead, talks about the grants that will help Canton's downtown get back up and running after the impact of Covid-19. Because many of the downtown businesses are restaurants, the chamber and the town talk about how residents can support local restaurants. In the Spotlight: "Project 351" is a State program designed to get youth from all Massachusetts towns (thus 351) involved in community issues. In this episode CCTV's Andrea Galvin asks Canton's youth about current community needs while also speaking to alumni of the program for context on how this program grew roots in Canton.

He talks with Andrea about memory loss due to dementia or Alzheimer's. He gives updated science on Alzheimers and how doctors can determine risk of developing dementia and what can be done to reduce the risk.

"Up to Speed" with Canton Public Health nurse Cindy Bonner talks about vaccines safety and effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccines with Canton Community Television's Andrea Galvin. In this in-depth discussion Andrea brings up hesitancy, has nurse Bonner explain the J&J pause and the technology used to create these vaccines. They also address some myths, the science and why you should be vaccinated even if you have already had the virus. Also an update on the home-bound vaccination process in Canton, MA.

Cynthia Holcombe talks to CCTV's Tim O'Connor about chairing the Canton's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and its purpose in Canton. Cynthia talks about growing up in Roxbury, her own and her friends long bussing days to get to school, how her childhood experiences helps to inform her views on community inequity and how seeing injustice for those more shy or less confident helped her decide to speak out and get politically involved and how her education at Wellesley helped to hone her analytical skills and a broader understanding of racial issues.
