This episode is a fun conversation challenging the idea of having just one soulmate, and who your soulmate could be. It could be a close friend, a family member, your partner, or even someone you've never met in person. There could also be soulmates who come into our lives for a brief time and then move on, having served their purpose. Amber Walz is Maya's OG soulmate. Friends for over 2 decades, the two have remained close through ups and downs, life changes, and cross country moves. After over 2 decades, they still operate as mirrors to one another in their work and parenting lives.EXCITING NEWS: I am hosting a Community Connection Call on Sat, Feb. 25th at 11 am PST. Building on the topic of self-love and self-worth from last week, this week we will be hearing from social worker and certified life coach Mary Hernandez about the concept of love addiction, and how she has reclaimed her experiences and pain, to step into her true purpose of helping others.
TRIGGER WARNING: Mary shares personal stories of interpersonal violence, as well as childhood traumas of violence, abandonment, and war.
If you or someone you know is in an interpersonal violence situation, there is help and there are resources. The National Domestic Violence Hotline number is 1800.799.7233. You can also call 211 for local resources.
Mary J. Hernandez is a Professional Certified Life Coach and the founder of Beauty For
Ashes Life Coaching and Spiritual Healing. She's empowered countless women to achieve
the level of self-awareness necessary to accomplish their dreams, find true love, and
discover their purpose. Having embarked on her own six-year journey of healing from
childhood and adult trauma, Mary is able to show genuine empathy and compassion for
her clients, as they begin their transformation into the fearless women they were created
to be.
Episode Highlights:
Even when things appear perfect on the outside, there can be chaos and dysfunction on the inside
We can take responsibility for ourselves and that which we can control, i.e. our response, reaction, decision making, healing
We may recognize red flags, but not have the courage to walk away from red flags
Self-worth, self-love, and self-trust is the foundation
We have to accept and feel our childhood traumas to build that foundation
People pleasing is learned and based on conditional love or the feeling of having to perform or achieve to gain love
Love Addiction - people who have experiences rejection or abandonment look to relationships to medicate the pain of the abandonment
I AM DESERVING OF LOVE
Another person's behaviors or reactions towards me are not a reflection of my value
Walking in freedom means no longer trying to please others or being scared of their acceptance or approval

Happy February! I am kicking off this month talking about self-love, and will be examining different perspectives of love in the coming weeks.

Episode Highlights:
We can all resonate with feeling empowered after learning, growing and changing through challenges
Our self-worth is engrained deep in our subconscious beliefs and affects how we show up in life
Our ego shows up as a little voice that wants to keeps us safe and expresses itself as: fears, negative self-talk, thinking I am not good or worthy enough, people pleasing, making myself smaller, not taking up space, not showing my true self, being "other-oriented"
We can get caught up in our identities and equate that to our self-worth (such as being a parent, relationship status, job title, money, educational achievements, etc.)
Self-love is loving and accepting who I am, right here, right now, independent of our identities
We may sometimes base our happiness on these things. Be careful of thinking pattern, "I'll be happy when I have (insert thing here - relationship, money, etc.)
YOU ARE WORTHY ON YOUR OWN, JUST AS YOU ARE
Ultimate expression of self-love is someone who focuses on themselves and enjoys life
Gentle Reminders:
You are enough
Don't be afraid to leave or change a situation
Don't be afraid to be on your own
Trust your intuition
Make your worth know
Do not tolerate disrespect
Always be willing to learn and grow

Marisa Commerford is a lawyer turned yoga instructor and workplace wellness advocate. After over a decade spent in the trenches as an attorney fighting for her clients' rights, she found herself exhausted most of the time - emotionally depleted, suffering from a number of health issues and plagued by self-critical and fearful thoughts. Burnout was real, and it led to a year-long sabbatical from the practice of law. She did not have a plan but wanted answers. Did success have to come at a price? Was living in states of depletion, stress and overwhelm just normal? Did we have to watch our bodies deteriorate? Was joy something that we experienced only in moments here and there?
After a lot of research, experimentation, and many dark moments, she eventually found what she was looking for - yoga. Through the integration of physical practice, breathwork, and meditation, yoga transformed her life both inside and outside of the workplace. She now helps others do the same. Episode Highlights
Sometimes the advice we give to others is what we should also be practicing
So many of us take on so much at work (or at home, or at school, or in relationships, etc.)
It takes courage to say, "I need help."
We can become disembodied from ourselves through coping mechanisms that allow us to escape or tune out
You are not your thoughts. And if we are not our thoughts, then what are we and how to find that?
Yoga offers a toolkit for life and how to show up in the world
Our ego will try to keep us connected to what feels safe and/or comfortable
Once we have done our healing, we can be in the space of sharing it with others
Kairos: Greek word explaining the depth and fullness of time
When you feel stuck, it is valid and temporary and you are not alone

In this episode, I chat with Sharon Uy. Sharon works and plays as an art psychotherapist, artist, writer and photographer. She merges the spiritual, the somatic, and the creative in her private practice, as she helps guide beloved clients back to their truest, most fully integrated selves, and as she herself is guided in the same way by her own beloved teachers and guides. If you'd like to connect with Sharon, you can find her at https://www.sharonuy.com/ or https://www.sharonbrookeuy.com/
In this episode, you can feel the complete trust, surrender and acceptance that Sharon has with life. She also gives us the following messages:
Following the blessings or opportunities provided
How easy it is to be who you really are, and yet it can still be scary!
Always making decisions from a place of peace and calm
Doing what feels good - not what society expects
We experience seasons of life and can expect to change throughout
Abundance comes in many forms
Being energetically open for whatever may come to us
Happiness is not always the goal
We are works in progress, but it is important not to let what other people think get in the way of our exploration
Give yourself patience, grace, kindness, love, affirmations and mantras
