In the first portion, chapters 1-3 discuss the first key section. This division has been described as the "indicative/imperative" or the "belief/behavior" distinction. This means that for Christians--the first part of Ephesians tells us who we are in Christ and the second part tells how we must respond to our new life in Christ! Our text is found in the "household code" section beginning at 5:22. This morning, we looked at the section from 5:25-33.
We made three points from this text dealing primarily with the love that a Christian husband is to display to their wife--command for husbands to love, comprehend the power of the Gospel, and contemplate the reason for marriage. We pray that you enjoy and benefit from this look at God's Word! We would love to have you join us for weekly worship on Sundays at 11:00am. We meet at:

But for this morning, we looked at the section from 5:15-6:9 as a way of introduction to the household code and is found within the imperative/behavior portion of the entire book.
We noted four points from the text that should guide our look at the household code: The gospel creates human humility; the gospel is to be believed and lived; the gospel is to be seen and displayed; and the gospel is to be enjoyed by us and others. This morning in conjunction with the honoring of our graduates at Rosefield Baptist Church we focused on Proverbs 4:1-9. We looked at several points that were made by the Anglican Bishop J.C. Ryle in his work "Thoughts for Young Men." He noticed 5 particular dangers for young men (pride, love of pleasure, thoughtlessness, contempt of Christianity, and fear of man's opinion). From Proverbs 4:1-9, we noted 3 things from the text: Embrace godly discipline, endure the fallenness of people, envelop wisdom.

Ephesians chapter 1 is amazing in the theological beauty that it contains and highlights. This morning's sermon was on a set of verses that are somewhat distinct from the preceding verses from Ephesians 1 . In these verses, the Apostle Paul gives thanks to God for the vitality of the Christians living in Ephesus after he heard of their spiritual growth in the years since he was in Ephesus.
This passage was a difficult one to preach--in that the text doesn't seem to lend itself to 1, 2, or 3 quick "points." I decided to ask one question: "What is your prayer life like?" and then noted 4 items to pray for (indwelling of the Spirit of wisdom and revelation; knowledge of the hope of his calling; knowledge of the wealth of His inheritance; knowledge of the power of the Almighty God). At the end, I did try to point out a neat twist on these 4 items to pray over and for fellow believers. We pray that you enjoy and benefit from this look at God's Word! This morning's sermon was the official first sermon in our look at the book of Ephesians. In order to prepare ourselves for the background to the key NT book of Ephesians, we looked at a portion of the Apostle Paul's stay in Ephesus. Our primary text was Acts 19:21-46. Here we noted three things: faithfulness to Jesus is the goal; anger at Christians can be the result; and fellowship among Christians should be deep.

For our 2023 Christmas sermon series, I perused the relevant nativity passages in both the Gospel of Matthew and Luke. While reading these wonderful passages, four titles used of/for Jesus seemed intriguing. During these four weeks prior to the celebration of Jesus' incarnation/birthday on December 25, we looked at each of these four (Immanuel, King of the Jews, Savior, Prince of Peace) titles.

We have been looking at the life of King David. Our text for November 5, 2023 was 1 Kings 1:11-40. This first chapter of 1/2 Chronicles tells of the beginning of the passing of King David from this life. This text surprises the reader to see the king of Israel while reminded of his earthly glory and vigor struggling to maintain his body temperature.

We have been looking at the life of King David. Our text for October 29, 2023 was 2 Samuel 24:1-25. This final chapter of 1/2 Samuel tells of a census and curse during King David's time reigning over Israel. This text describes a beautiful and important set of verses that I believe constitute a massively important and overlooked canonical text. This text takes the reader back to Genesis/Exodus and then directly propels the reader into 1/2 Kings...but also points forward to the New Testament and the true king Jesus!
During the sermon this week, we noted 3 points from the text and then 3 points of application. We saw: Jesus is stronger and wiser than David; Jesus is a better mediator than David; Jesus offers a better sacrifice than David. For application, we saw: we should worship and follow the True King, we should be quick to repent of our sin, and we should rest in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. This chapter tells the "last words" of King David from the end portion of his time reigning over Israel. I think that David (and the human author of Samuel) tells more here that what many modern commentators have noticed!

What I wanted to portray from the text was the portrait that I believe David was painting of the true Messiah--the LORD Jesus Christ! If you would like a list of them, you can email me (drpwillis4@gmail.com) or list them as I preach. We pray that you enjoy and benefit from this look at God's Word! We would love to have you join us for weekly worship on Sundays at 11:00am. We meet at:
