We're back, baby!
The Disney story of the Beauty and the Beast that many of us are familiar with today is generally believed to be based on a couple of stories written in the late 1700s. But who were THOSE stories based on?
Take a stroll with me down a very old and dark road and learn about Petrus Gonsalvus, a man born in 1537 with Congenital Hypertrichosis Languinosa; a man who lived anything but an ordinary life.

Blue: nature's most naturally unnatural color.
Many know that nature has a scarcity of blue, but what you may not know is that what blue there IS, probably isn't blue at all.
Want to know what I mean? Check out this episode of The Rainy Book Nook and learn about why blue butterflies are blue, what the heck a bile pigment is, and your next new favorite color.

WOOHOO! This was SO FUN to do, I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Today's episode is a story I wrote, using contributions from you guys over on Instagram!
Follow the horrifying night that one woman in Reaper, Wyoming experiences, all by herself. This is a tale that picks at all of your worst fears of isolation.
Let's talk about bones, baby, let's talk about jaw disease! (Doesn't have the same ring to it....)
In Episode 17 I talk about a few things that our ancestors thought was 100% normal. Spoiler Alert: It's absolutely anything but normal.
Mummy unwrappings, laws targeting disabled people, and the falsifying of Radium's purported health benefits are featured in this episode of The Rainy Book Nook's "History is F*cked Up" series.

Welcome Back! It's been a few weeks and this was worth the wait; travel to Colombia and all over the Mammalian Kingdom with your host, Shelby here at The Rainy Book Nook Podcast.
I discuss how Pablo Escobar smuggled animals into Colombia for his Estate Zoo during the 1980s, but one animal remains in the area to this day and continues to grow rapidly, recently being officially declared an invasive species.
It's not all bad news though, discover Zoonomia, the brain child of over 100 researchers.

In Episode 14 I talk about 3 heart-wrenching accidents at Amusement Parks from ride safety gone wrong. Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsled ride has seen two fatalities in its lifespan, but what other tragedies have struck the places that are meant to be the most fun?
For the final segment of the episode I talk about a murder case that happened at an abandoned theme park, one that I feel has nowhere near the amount of recognition it deserves. It is the case of the Holy Land USA murder victim, 16 year old Chloe Ottman. Rest in Peace beautiful girl.

Episode 13 - On the 13th! Kinda...In this episode I talk alllll about Friday the 13th and the "history" behind it. We travel from 1792 B.C. all the way up to modern times and discuss how this number has become the sensational hell-iday it's become today. (Sorry - that was corny.)
CLARIFICATION I reference the roman numeral 17, and say it as VXII when it is XVII. OOPS!

Part 2 of 2!
In Part 2 I pick back up where we left off with things heating up for Hyde and his wife, entering a tumultuous legal battle that started in 1911 and ended in 1917.
In this episode we see how lack of education created a dangerous precedent in the courtoom among the jurors and even the Missouri State Supreme Court Justices. Stick around for a truly creepy story for the second half of the episode, written by me, your host Shelby.

In Episode 7 of The Rainy Book Nook Podcast we have another book review....sorta! It's a lot like the first episode. After a quick review of Violet Made of Thorns #1- a fantasy novel told from the perspective of a morally gray Seer who has a little bit too much bit - we do a quick dip of the toes into the world of modern Psychics, and at the end of the episode is a short story that I wrote called, "Edris Family Farm" about a Farmer struggling to maintain the gruesome family business.
I couldn't do this without you guys - thank you!
If you have a story of your own you would like me to read, or a topic suggestion, please email me or message me on Instagram.

Happy Sunday Friends! This episode begins a world tour of mythical folklore, full of whimsy and a little bit of chaos.
Sorry for the late release, y'all! I give myself extra time and somehow I'm still late! Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy listening to this episode because I had a lot of fun recording it.
First I talk about iele (ielele), the Romanian version of a fairy or nymph to put it lightly. Next I read the story of Făt-Frumos, a classic Romanian tale, as told by Petre Ispirescu.
