On today’s headline day we look at the trajectory of antisemitism around the world. It seemed to have taken a bit of a break during the election cycle but nothing has, or will change, the current direction of antisemitism and it will get worse and worse, a tragedy and a pox upon humanity. From Amsterdam to Belgium, from sea to shining sea in the US, here we go again. And we will speak up about it and we will defend Israel with all we have because it represents the heart of God. And yet “evangelical” churches choose the wrong side in so many churches. Then we look at speaking up about bible prophecy, a great evangelical tool that again, many churches refuse to teach or speak up about. Afraid to mention the rapture? You are not alone because more than ever, you will get an eye-roll followed by a denunciation of some historical sort. And the pulpits are silent on yet again another thing. Headlines and more on today’s Stand Up for the Truth, speaking the truth about as many things as we can, of import to the church.

What if you feel apathetic about this year’s election? Pastor Gary makes the argument that voting is not just a right, but a duty, and he helps us to understand how Christians can be involved in the political process.

We also discuss how parents are more afraid of the trans agenda than they are of the gay agenda. How do we get them to understand that it’s all designed to destroy kids’ hearts and minds? Is it a case of “at least I’m not on drugs, Mom” kind of reasoning? An in demand speaker and author, she founded Mission America, a Christian pro-family organization tracking current cultural issues. Christians are often at odds not only about general political engagement, but whether or not to even bother to vote. Then we will look at a new streaming mockumentary-sitcom-disgrace from the minds of the producers of The Chosen: “The Promised Land”. The accepted description of it is, “If The Chosen and The Office had an offspring, it would be “The Promised Land”, and indeed that is the precise description that might set our teeth on edge before we even watch it. Episode 1 dropped a month ago and already it is very popular. Of course it is, The Chosen name brand has a built in audience. Is it biblical? Reverent? No. Entertaining, yes – but what is the place for that when it comes to people who actually lived and whom God used to bring about His will? Finally, we look at the Catholic prayer app, “Hallow”. An informative hour.

In the West, news of bibles and copies of the Ten Commandments going into public schools in Louisiana and Oklahoma is like a fresh wind blowing through the rotting school culture of the times. We talk about their publishing arm, new materials for children, and all the ways God is using EEM. An encouraging hour of good news. No matter how dark the hour, God is working.

With all the religious aspects, extra-biblical focus and gospel of good works, how is it that a Catholic can never be assured of salvation? There is a lot of busy-ness, as in all religions, but none of it ever seems to produce the fruit of repentance and a biblical understanding of the new birth. We also discuss the ecumenical bent that has long been part of this huge denomination but we have to ask ourselves, to what end? Dominionism, or something more sneaky – the desire to bring all Protestants “home to Rome”. A thoughtful discussion that will hopefully open eyes to the vanity of religiousity.

But is God trying to tell us something in the mayhem? More than likely. And that “something” is that the “end of all things is at hand” according to Peter. But that hope that God gives is designed to warn the ungodly and have a purifying effect on us if we are serving Him, watching and waiting. Traveling hopefully is certainly realistic, for the believer.

We then determine how the problems we face must be solved and God no longer directs. In his thoughtful article, “Render to God what is God’s: Reflecting Christ in Politics”, James says, “When God’s people take up causes, we run the risk of those causes distorting our vision of God. We run the risk of justifying our pursuit of the cause by making the cause an idol and tying God to it. When this happens, we no longer act as if we believe that His ways are beyond our ways, or that His thoughts are beyond our thoughts. God conforms to us. We then determine how the problems we face must be solved and God no longer directs. Holly Pivec is an evangelical researcher of cults, sects, and new religious groups, such as the “New Apostolic Reformation” (NAR) movement. She has a master’s degree in Christian apologetics from Biola University in Southern California, where she attended and also worked. Holly and her family live in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Doug Geivett is a husband, father to two grown children, professor, author, and speaker. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from USC and teaches at Biola University and Talbot School of Theology. Doug has written or edited several books and spoken on issues related to the New Apostolic Reformation, Christian apologetics, and the Christian life to audiences all over the world.

TODAY’S GUEST: Chuck Girard, singer, songwriter, recording artist, and worship leader, is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Christian Music. He was co-founder and lead singer of the groupLOVE SONG from it’s beginning to the present. Born in Los Angeles, Chuck began playing music at an early age. In his teens, he formed a group called THE CASTELLS, which had two national top 20 hits. They also released the song “I Do”, which was produced by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chuck shared the stage with stars such as Roy Orbison, Jan and Dean, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Vee, and others. This led to a successful career as a studio singer and musician which included singing the lead vocals on THE HONDELLS first two albums and their biggest hit, “Little Honda.”
In his early twenties Chuck became disillusioned with life, and like so many of his generation began experimenting with drugs. This led to a five-year search for God through LSD, eastern religion, and a committed “hippie” lifestyle.

After years of searching for meaning through drugs, Buddhism, sex, and Eastern philosophy, a long-haired hippie musician walked his bare feet into a little country church and encountered the living God. Confounded by the simplicity of the gospel, a young Chuck Girard dedicated his life to Jesus during the height of the sexual revolution and civil unrest that characterized the decade of the ’60s. Along with thousands of other “Jesus Freaks” who came to be known as the Jesus Movement, Chuck’s story was only just getting started. This raw and honest memoir is both refreshing and convicting.

Holly Pivec is an evangelical researcher of cults, sects, and new religious groups, such as the “New Apostolic Reformation” (NAR) movement. She has a master’s degree in Christian apologetics from Biola University in Southern California, where she attended and also worked. Holly and her family live in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Doug Geivett is a husband, father to two grown children, professor, author, and speaker. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from USC and teaches at Biola University and Talbot School of Theology. In yet another violation of biblical principles, the progressive United Methodist Church (UMC) voted to make “Reverend” Cedrick Bridgeforth, an openly gay man, bishop at their official meeting last week. Of course, they did. But if church rules and Bible doctrines no longer matter, why have them?
Sadly, more churches seem to be minimizing or reinterpreting Scripture. These deceivers often emphasize (code words alert!) diversity, equity, inclusion, tolerance, and strive to be ‘welcoming.’ It’s true Jesus welcomed sinners, but He also told them to repent, obey His commandments, and to go and sin no more!
After being elected, Bridgeforth told those gathered at the Western Jurisdiction meeting that he was “grateful to God Almighty” and “to my husband, Christopher.” But wait a minute. The UMC Book of Discipline forbids ordaining ‘practicing homosexuals.’ But rules are meant to be broken, right? Not if Jesus is your final authority. He is the One who created mankind and all things. He ordained and defined (natural) marriage between one man and one woman (Mark 10:6-10).
The Book of Jude appeals to Christians to stand and fight against attacks on the faith. See if you notice any similarities to today’s church as Jude warned first century Christians saying:
For certain people have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into indecent behavior and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Jude 1:4
Deception, godlessness, and false teachers are nothing new.
Don’t miss the fact that a man in an open same-sex “marriage” was still elected to the office of bishop in the Methodist Church. Bridgeforth plans to “chart new ground.” He served as the California-Pacific Conference’s director of innovation and communication and received 73 votes out of 93 ballots cast. For those keeping score, that’s a majority.
It’s important to note that during the last decade, the splintered Methodist denomination finally split. Biblical Christians were tired of compromise, LGBTQ policies, women pastors, political correctness, and division over abortion and marriage. So after years of debate over holding the biblical line or accommodating sin, conservatives officially parted ways with the UMC and launched its Global Methodist Church.
Former UMC General Conference delegate, John Lomperis of the Institute on Religion & Democracy, said Bridgeforth’s promotion exhibits “further direct defiance of the UMC’s official rules, which is increasingly becoming normalized.” He adds:
“Bishops are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of upholding and enforcing our church’s doctrinal and moral standards. When the bishops are so openly breaking these standards, then this is a true ‘inmates running the asylum’ situation,”
According to the Christian Post, Loperis remarked about a female bishop also elected by the UMC, that she even refused to say if she believes in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. Apparently [she] does not believe in “basic biblical doctrine about His incarnation.” This is stunning.
Plenty of people mention God or even claim to believe in Him, but does your faith translate over into your life? Where’s the fruit? Do you obey the commandments? Anyone can say they are Christian and millions do, but it’s apparent they do not really follow Jesus and live out their faith according to the Bible. They are man-pleasers rather than God-pleasers (Gal. 1:10).
I think we know the sobering answers to these questions. It is reflected in the moral rot and decay of culture and the infestation of social justice and liberal ideologies into American churches.
It’s important to understand the historical decline. In 2016, the United Methodist Church (Western Jurisdiction) appointed the first openly lesbian bishop, and the election was unanimous! Karen Oliveto’s ordination was later deemed invalid by the Church’s Judicial Council a year later, but that didn’t matter; she remains in her position to this day.
The day before the 2016 UMC convention in Oregon, the “Reverend” Laura Young, a 48-year-old Methodist pastor in Ohio joined over a hundred United Methodist Church clergy members who came out as gay, lesbian or bisexual. Young stated at the time:
“I feel lighter already. I can be a better pastor and a better person when I can be my full self, living in the light and with integrity.”
In 2019, the UMC voted – by a slim margin – to uphold the church’s bans on ordaining LGBTQ clergy and performing same-sex weddings. However, that vote was disregarded by many progressive leaders within the UMC who rebelled and continued to commission openly gay clergy as well as officiate same-sex weddings.
The Bible warns us not to align with them and also says God will not be mocked. He never changes and neither does His Word which teaches you will reap what you sow, either sin and corruption or righteousness and everlasting life (Isaiah 40:8, Gal. 6:7-8).
Churches have been divided on politics for over a century, but the greater issue is division over clear, biblical, foundational doctrines and teachings. By the way, the (formerly) United Methodist Church is the third-largest Protestant denomination in the USA. Don’t think this couldn’t happen at your church.
The Apostle Paul said the Holy Spirit lives in believers and we are temples of the living God. He writes:
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? …Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:14, 17
How about you or your church? Do you have a decision to make?
For those in seeker-sensitive “churches” who no longer adhere to or believe what the Bible teaches, it doesn’t matter what they say. Christ the King will return as promised, sin will be judged, and righteousness, holiness, grace and truth will prevail.
