Want to be amazed by God. There is a step of preparation for you to take. Do it and he will do wonders.
What we have now doesn't even compare to the whole new world that God has prepared for us.
This is the third and final episode in our series about maturity. It all builds to the point that we live to give.
Last week we explored the foundational level of maturity: Value Yourself!
This week we explore the level that builds off of this foundation: Get Over Yourself!
These are not opposites. The only way you can deny yourself the way Christ calls us to is to accept yourself the way he sees you. When you value yourself you can get over yourself without defeat.
Those who value themselves the least live the most selfishly. Believe that you are valuable because God values you! When you know your value you don't need to chase the affirmation of the world. A foundational level of maturity is to value yourself.
There is a repeated truth that is stated after all that God makes during creation week. We are told that God saw that it was good. Everything that God makes is very good. What does that mean for the things he is doing in your life?
Waiting on the Lord sounds noble. But what if God doesn't want you to wait? That is what we explore in this episode.
There are three words that are always true when you say them to yourself, "You are here". Use these three words to call yourself into the moment to live present for what matters most.
Uncontrollable loss is demoralizing. But there is something important to be done in those moments. Strengthen what remains.
It is possible for the church to get in the way of those who are looking for God. God has some requirements for those who come to him. Let's not add any more. Let's make it as easy as possible for people to find God in our lives and church.

Jesus doesn't bless us with burden free lives. He lightens our burdens with the blessing of resting in him.
What would it do to your feelings of inadequacy if you believed that skill was not required for serving God? He is worthy of skillful work. But we will never do the work he has called us to by our own skill. Skill is a minimal factor that only comes into play after surrender, systems, and sweat.
Here it the podcast I referenced with John Maxwell. I said it was the Maxwell Leadership Podcast. Well, it is actually John Maxwell being interviews on the Craig Greoschel Leadership Podcast.

Great things happen by the power of God. But this power does not just show up in the moment. This power develops us so that we can show up in the moment.
Joyful Service was the year goal in my church in 2023. Here is one more nudge in this direction for the year.

Here is a Thanksgiving episode for you. Listen. Then have a good long conversation with your friends and family about the privilege of the gift of life (and everything else).
Not all prayers are nice! This episode reminds us that God doesn't need perfect prayers. He just wants to talk.
Do you feel like a winner? Most of us struggle with inadequacy. The truth is that in Christ you are a winner. It would glorify God to start living now like the winner you will be forever.
You are called by God. You are called to be an apostle, called to belong, and called to be a saint. Hear all about it in this part 2 episode about calling.
In the gospel you are not only forgiven, you are also employed. Calling is the less familiar part of the gospel that you need to step into. This is part one a study that encourages you to receive the calling you have in Jesus.
If you feel the injustice of life this, episode is for you. If you are in a dark place, this episode is for you.
The spiritual life it hard. But it's not too hard. In this episode, we are reminded from Deuteronomy 30 that God has placed life before us today.
Listen to these words from Romans 1:19-20
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
God shows himself to us. I want eyes to see and ears to hear the things about God that can be known.

If you ever think "God has not blessed me", resist the urge to end the sentence there. Add the phrase, "in the way I was wanting or expecting.". Sometimes we miss his blessings because he chooses to pour our blessing in a different area than the problem we are focused on.
When you pray for people you are serving them! If you could use some encouragement to pray for people, consider what Samuel did for Israel in 1 Samuel 7. It is what we can do for others today.
Here is a possible behind-the-scenes perspective on the story of Samuel that makes me stand in awe of God.
I know, Mothers Day is already over! But I was working on a Mothers Day episode and failed to get it posted in time. So here it is!
Happy Mothers Day.
Kindness is almost always the right answer! This episode goes beyond calling us to be kind. It challenges us to live in a way that helps others to be kind.
God gives us the gift of each moment. We struggle to receive these gifts in the moments they are given in. Ecclesiastes has some wisdom for how to better engage in each moment that God gives. This episode is all about that!
Ecclesiastes 2:24 There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God.
The book of Ecclesiastes has some depressing things to say. It gives quite a list of pursuits in life that are meaningless. This depressing list is good for us to consider because it highlights many of the ways we attempt (and fail) to find the beauty in each moment. Consider the list. Stop looking in those places. Start seeing the beauty that God gives in each moment.
God gives a beauty to each moment that is only available in that moment. It can't be accessed in anticipation or hindsight. But so often we miss it. This is the first of three episodes exploring Ecclesiastes 3:11, "He makes everything beautiful in its time."
Who are you pleasing?
Who or what is most pleasing to you?
These are the two big questions. The answers to these questions fundamentally shape your life.

“We come all the way to Alaska not to raise funds. We just want to come to Alaska to raise awareness so we all know what kind of God we serve!” Ramon Tengkano
Ramon and Shandy have been “experimenting with Jesus“ for the past twelve years. They have given up their wealth to the fully surrendered service of Jesus. Their story is another reminder that faith is the only thing that can cast out fear and that a relationship with Jesus is the only thing that satisfies the soul.

If you could ask God for anything and get it, what would you ask for? Have you asked?
This episode was originally shared on the Palmer SDA Church Podcast. https://palmersdachurch.podbean.com/?s=try%20asking%20god
Wouldn’t it be nice if God would reveal himself in the light and speak in a loud voice? Notice how God speaks to us in Matthew 10:27, “What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.”
God speaks in the dark and in a whisper. We don’t have anything to say in the light unless we have heard from God in the dark. We don’t have a message to proclaim on the housetops unless we have heard the whisper of God.
If you are in a dark place, listen for what God has to tell you. If you only hear his voice in a low whisper, cherish that whisper.
If you really want something, You are going to have to do more than just want it. We don't get results from wishful thinking. But what if there was a reality in which wanting it was all that it took. Imagine if you simply desired something and you got it. When I listen to the words of Jesus, I think there are circumstances in which that reality exists.
Jesus says, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled".
So if you are not filled with righteous, what is the real reason why?
Have you ever listened to someone pray a fancy prayer? You know, the prayers with big words and lots of emotion. Were you impressed? Do you think God was impressed?
Jesus said, "when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him".
Stop praying to get attention! You don't need to get the attention of people. This path is littered with pride and hypocrisy. And you don't need to get the attention of God, because, well, you already have it. Just talk to him!
It is easy to claim the excuse that we can't live with spiritual abundance when our culture is marked by spiritual corruption. Don't let culture set your spiritual temperature. Let the Holy Spirit do that!

Pursue better goals for 2023 by understanding the relationship between “who goals” and “do goals”!
Which is more formative, who or do? Who we are shapes what we do and what we do shapes who we are. Both are true. Habits build our identity. If you are disciplined in the act of study, you eventually might become a scholar. The reverse is true. Our identity shapes what we do. If you are a scholar, you are the type of person who has behaviors like writing academic articles. Habits shape identity and identity drives behavior.
There is some level of circular influence here. Who shapes do and do shapes who. Both are important. But which one is more formative?
Consistently in Scripture the “who” drives the “do”.
This episode explores this Biblical pattern in Ephesians 2:1-10.
Here is a link for the episode I mentioned from the Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast. Check it out! I value his teaching.

There is no question about God’s ability to heal us. The question is about our desire to be healed. In 2023, Jesus has a question for you, “Do you want to be healed?”
When you are ready, you can be sure that he is too.
The Christmas story is an invitation to step into the vulnerability that the gospel requires. This episode is a Christmas special featuring three stories about how others have stepped into that vulnerability. As God calls you deeper into his story, there will be some steps of vulnerability. It is our hope that these stories will help you follow God right into his story.
A quick warning, this episode includes some sad and graphic descriptions of homelessness. Stop seeking glory! Start enjoying peace!
When the host of angels appeared to the shepherds, the lyrics of their song described a sacred rhythm of eternity: glory to God, peace to men. Forever, God gets the glory. Forever, he gives us peace. When we choose not to live in this rhythm, it hurts. When we seek the glory for ourselves or give it to something other than God, it never ends in peace. The truest, deepest, and most wonderful peace is experienced when we give all the glory to God.

Isaiah 9:2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
We are the people who live in the land of darkness. Jesus is the spiritual sunrise that changes everything!
There are times when we don’t understand ourselves, times when we have good intentions that don’t get done, and times when we do the exact thing we didn’t want to do. That is what Paul was struggling with in Romans 7. Listen to his words. They sound a bit frustrating, even discouraging. But they describe an experience we all have, and they point us toward hope.
We would make better life decisions if we made a habit of asking ourselves, “How will this end?” Sure, there are times that we don’t know the answer to that question. And if we always did, making decisions would be easy. But if we are honest, most often we do have a pretty good idea how things will end, we just don’t take the time to ask the question.
Romans 6:20-23 makes pretty clear how things end. Listen to the episode! Start making better choices by considering their end.
Sometimes we can look back on a long journey and see that the destination we were pursuing was actually available to us the whole time.
In this episode Christine tells her story. It is a story of hearing from God, addiction, discouragement, spiritual highs, spiritual lows, and one really important spiritual lesson learned. If you have ever felt spiritually inferior or like you needed to do more to earn God’s love, you need to hear the message that God shared with Christine.

READ or LISTEN to Desire of Ages Chapter 70
This episode takes us to four very different places.
I spent a day at the Alaska State Fair asking people to share about needs.
I also had a conversation with my friend Mario.
We go to the Bible.
And we also spend some time at the dump.
This episode weaves these different experiences together to explore a practical strategy for discovering where God is at work and to join him in his story. There is a lot to consider on this topic. The story has been broken into two parts. Here’s part 1. Look for part 2 next week. And hopefully, unlike this one, part 2 will come on time for our regular Sunday morning upload.
Meet needs! Meet God!
What does it mean to grow in grace?
Thought 1- Grace is the perfect environment for growth. Live in the atmosphere of God's grace and grow!
Thought 2- God has more grace for you! Grace doesn't end after salvation. God gives more grace and we can grow in grace by receiving what God has for us.
It is possible to be always learning but never come to a knowledge of truth. More important than knowing a lot of things is knowing the right things and letting them change our lives. Paul shares wisdom with Timothy about how to do that.
Do you ever get bored reading the Bible? I will admit, there are times I read the Bible with low expectation. But I shouldn't! If the scriptures are living and active and God speaks through them, that is not boring. We don't need to hear from God in some dramatic fashion. We need to start listening for His voice in the ways He is already speaking.
God speaks in many ways. Here is a crazy thought. It is possible that God is speaking to you through your own mouth and you are still not listening! The solution to many of our problems is not more information but simply practicing the things we already tell ourselves and others. Practice what you preach!
