About Tonya
Greetings Friends, I'm Tonya, the founder of Sensitivity Rising, host of the Highly Sensitive Healing Podcast and a Certified Professional Holistic Wellness Guide. As an HSP, I understand firsthand the challenges of navigating life in our modern world while embracing our sensitivity. For a long time, I struggled to find a balance between seeing my trait as a burden or a gift. Through my personal journey, I've come to realize that a healthy mind, body, spirit, and relationships all stem from finding that balance between the two. As an HSP, seeking balance is a daily action that we must constantly work towards. However, by having the right tools to work towards balance in ways that work best for us, the work becomes a joy and not a burden. I've found that embracing yoga, holistic living, and the healing introspection of self-discovery have significantly improved my self-worth, relationships, and perspective of the world. I believe that living as a sensitive person does not have to be painful or isolating. Instead, we must learn how to nurture ourselves in ways that are unique to us. I'm excited to being this new journey of self-discovery, as we explore what wellness means to us as highly sensitive individuals. Let's embrace our sensitivity, find our balance, and live our best highly sensitive lives!
About Daphnie
Hello friends, I'm Daphne Leigh, aka Yogi Ranger. I am the founder of the freedom from anxiety program and the Highly Sensitive and Strong Facebook community. I've been teaching yoga mindfulness and meditation since 1995. And I'm also a clinical health coach, and an Ayurvedic lifestyle coach who specializes in helping highly sensitive people reduce stress and anxiety, so they can have the energy and focus to do the things that are most important to them in life. After being hospitalized for panic and anxiety disorder as a teenager, I became intensely curious about why I had anxiety in the first place, and how I could learn to worry less and be more present and connected with my family and friends. I also wanted to learn to be healthier, while experiencing more peace and calm in my body and mind. Through my studies, I discovered I was a highly sensitive person. And once I learned to care for my sensitive nervous system, I became passionate about helping other highly sensitive people do the same. I believe that highly sensitive people are some of the strongest people I know. We all have important gifts to share with the world. And life is too precious to waste our time being stuck in cycles of overwhelm that can be avoided. Once we know how to care for our own unique selves.

You may have been tuning into the show when it was called Highly Sensitive Healing, and we want to take a moment to explain why we've decided to rebrand as HSP Wellness Warriors.
First, the new name better reflects the values and mission of the podcast. While "Highly Sensitive Healing" was focused on exploring the challenges of being a highly sensitive person, the new name "HSP Wellness Warriors" emphasizes a proactive approach to wellness and a sense of community and empowerment.Second, the term "warrior" speaks to the strength, resilience, and determination of us as HSPs. It acknowledges that while our sensitivity can sometimes leave us vulnerable, it can also be a powerful source of strength and connection. By embracing our sensitivity and committing to our well-being, we become warriors for our own wellness and for the wellness of our communities and the world. We're dedicated to helping our fellow HSPs live their best lives, and we believe that by uniting as a community, we can create a world where sensitivity is celebrated, not stigmatized. We are the HSP wellness warriors, and we're here to lead a revolution of sensitivity. Join us as we explore the world of wellness, and let's continue to grow and evolve together as Highly Sensitive Warriors! We're so excited to share this journey with you!

Let's chat about slowing down and finding a path for ourselves that isn’t based on what we think everyone else is doing or thinking. Once we stop rushing through life we’ll be amazed at how much time we actually have to live an intentional purpose filled life.
Reconnecting to ourselves is about learning who we really are and what we really want without the expectations of others so we start to strip away the layers of noise that have been placed on us, the labels and beliefs that we live under the weight of– most of the time without even knowing why. Reflecting and reconnecting is about living our lives according to our own truth and no one else's.
Grounding is actually one of the easiest practices we can do, and when we become grounded we become present, its easier to process our thoughts, to shut out the noise of what others think our path should be, and to align ourselves with what is truly meant for us. So if you also struggle with flooding emotions, too many thoughts, if you find that you’re on a path that doesn’t quite align with your values, or if you just need to pause to reassess what your goals and purpose may be then grounding is a great place to begin! https://highlysensitivehealing.com/podcast/4-simple-ways-to-hug-it-out-and-reduce-stress (Episode 56 4 Simple Ways To Hug It Out and Reduce Stress)
In this episode I chat with my dear friend Raphie Wagner about making connections with non-HSPs through sensitivity. Raphie is an occupational therapist turned podcast strategist and a non-HSP who shares her experiences with managing her sensitivities and how she navigates the online business world and social media. She shares some great insights for all of us and through our conversation we can see that HSPs and non-HSPs have more in common than we think! How often try to force the things we want or think we need into our lives? Anytime we find ourselves forcing things like romantic relationships, friendships, jobs that don’t align with our values or following any path that doesn't feel true to who we are. Let's talk about how these moments are a perfect time for us to pause and rethink about letting go of what isn't serving us.
In this episode I share one my favorite therapeutic tools and its completely free! Hugging and being hugged by someone we love is great therapy but what if hugging another person this isn't available to us? What other ways can we find that hugging feeling? Listen to find out more!
How do we get hooked into patterns? Getting stuck keeps us distracted from the present moment as a result we fall into the habit of being controlled by our thoughts and emotions. In this episode we talk about shenpa. According to Pema Chödrön shenpa, is the urge, the hook, that triggers our habitual tendency to close down. In her book Taking the Leap: Freeing Ourselves from Old Habits and Fears, Pema helps us to understand shenpa and how we can begin to free ourselves from it. Jon is back! And this time we're chatting about managing our relationship expectations. We share our thoughts on: What are reasonable expectations in a relationship? Should you always know what the other person needs? Can being in an relationship with an HSP can change your perspective? And more! Join us to hear how we navigate our HSP/Non-HSP relationship!
This week is part 2 of our conversation with Britta Vercoutter and Amber McCormick about parenting as HSPs. Whether it's conflicts, sensory overload, criticism, or loss finding the courage and the strength to keep rising up can take all of our energy leaving us very little to spend on anything else. We live in an overwhelming environment and we’re expected to embrace it, pressured to keep up with all the things, and when we can’t or if we need to take breaks we’re made to feel less than for it. In this episode we talk about some practical things can we do when we’re IN the thick of it.
Do you try to hide your sensitivity because of the fear of criticism and misunderstanding from other people? When we keep our thoughts and experiences inside they can become larger than life. Distorted, exaggerated, we begin to spiral with overthinking and overwhelm. We need to release our emotions in order to make sense of them, process them and find solutions if we’re in the middle of something that needs to change.
Is it possible for HSPs and non-HSPs to have a long happy romantic relationship? Yes! If both are willing to communicate. In this episode my husband Jon and I discuss how we navigate our communication as a HSP/non-HSP couple. If you'd like to ask us questions feel free to reach out to us! If attachment is defined as emotional bonds as HSPs we know attachment better than anyone. Our emotions run so close to the surface in everything that we do that we often feel more than most no matter which or how many attachment styles we may identify with. Identifying ourselves as HSP or Empaths and seeing aspects of ourselves in different attachment styles gives us an identity, gives us something to hold on to as a way to try to understand ourselves better. The yama of aparigraha teaches us to take only what we need, keep only what serves us in the moment, and to let go when the time is right.
Relationships can be the source of some of the most profound and fulfilling moments we experience in this lifetime, but they can also be obstacles and painful tests of our resilience and our self-worth. But when we move from a place of fear instead of a place of love it’s only us who truly suffer. Let's talk about expectations vs reality in relationships.
The definition of embodiment can change depending on where you look and who you ask and you can get different answers from different sources. So what is it, how does it work, and how is it relevant to us as HSPs? And at the end of the episode we’ll do a short practice together. ♥
This BONUS meditation is in connection with the wonderful conversation in the previous episode https://highlysensitivehealing.com/podcast/our-brains-on-yoga-a-conversation-with-jonathan-rosenthal-m-d/ (Our Brains on Yoga: A Conversation with Jonathan Rosenthal, M.D.) Jonathan shared how meditation changes our brains in positive ways, especially the practice of compassion meditation. Loving kindness meditation helps to increase our well-being and reduce stress. And regular practice can increase our capacity for forgiveness, connection to others, and self-acceptance. I hope you enjoy this meditation! If you do please reach out- I'd love to hear from you! ♥

Many of us are preoccupied with world conflicts and as Highly Sensitive People the resulting stress can feel overwhelming. We can feel powerless when we know that many people and animals are struggling in many places across the world, not just the ones occupying today's headlines, very often many are suffering right in our own backyards. In this episode I share a portion of Dr. Wayne Dyer's book, Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao. "One of the many gifts of the Tao Te Ching is its mind-stretching quality, especially in the way that Lao-tzu uses irony and paradox to get you to look at life." - Wayne Dyer Resources: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/389763.Change_Your_Thoughts_Change_Your_Life (Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tao_Te_Ching (Tao Te Ching) https://youtu.be/dFb7Hxva5rg (Lao Tzu)
The idea of perfectionism is usually created during our childhoods. Growing up we rarely have the emotional or mental capacity to process the whats or whys, so we do what we do best as humans to make sense of it all… we tell ourselves stories. In this episode we talk about how to begin to unlearn these stories we were told about ourselves and continue to replay in our minds long after we’ve transitioned into adulthood. And I share 5 of my favorite affirmations to help shift your mindset from perfectionism to contentment.
Grief has many forms and it’s different for all of us, it doesn’t follow any logical pattern, there’s no map or directions, there is only confusion, fear, anger, loneliness, regret, depression, just to name a few of the endless cycle and waves of emotions. Many things cause us feelings of grief, not just the loss of friends and family, we grieve the loss of beloved animal friends, jobs, homes, lifestyles, physical changes, relationships… As highly sensitive people it's important that we take the time we need to feel our feelings, while not allowing anyone to minimize our emotions or that we try to hide our feelings to placate others. We need to know that there is no such thing as being too emotional and that we are allowed to grieve and process the experience of loss in our own way, at our own pace and in our own time. https://www.helpguide.org/articles/grief/coping-with-grief-and-loss.htm (Coping with Grief and Loss Help Guide) https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline (SAMHSA’s National Helpline) 1-800-662-HELP (4357)

In this episode I share with you the words of the beloved Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and one of the world’s most influential Zen masters. As you may know he passed on recently at the age of 95. In this life he was a prolific author, poet, teacher and peace activist, was exiled from Vietnam after opposing the war in the 1960s. In his book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13623836-fear (Fear: Essential Wisdom for Getting Through the Storm )he shows us that with the practice of mindfulness we can learn to identify the sources of pain that cause us fear and move past them to live a mindful and happy life. Like countless others his work has had a tremendous influence on my life and this book is one of my favorites. I'll share one particular section that really speaks to me as a highly sensitive person. I hope you enjoy and find wisdom in his words and reach out to let me know your thoughts. ♥

AS HSPs we can struggle with the daily grind of the 9-5 for multiple reasons. Maybe our job holds little or no purpose for a greater good, maybe it doesn’t align with our values, or the environment is toxic. As a result we experience what is known as the Sunday Scaries. This feeling of impending doom of facing yet another Monday can show up in our minds and bodies in various ways- general anxiety and nervousness, insomnia, digestive issues, irritability, brain fog… just to name a few. As HSP’s it’s important to acknowledge that our emotional distress is valid, and even more important that we find healthy ways to manage it. In this episode we chat about 6 ways to find some relief. https://members.highlysensitivehealing.com/ (Looking for compassionate support on your Highly Sensitive journey? A brief chat about the upcoming winter solstice as we transition from autumn- which is the season of letting go- into winter the season of reflection and rest. The solstice is a time to look inward, and many cultures around the world have celebrated the solstice as a way to reflect on the thoughts, feelings and beliefs that have accumulated within us during these darker days using the solstice as a kind of turning point to now bring all of these things we carry into the light. Join me this Tuesday December 21st at 4 pm PST to connect with your High Sensitivity on a deeper level through Yoga Nidra. In this episode we speak with the Highly Sensitive CEO, Kellie Daab. After working in the creative industry for her entire career, Kellie couldn’t understand why she felt different from other entrepreneurs. Despite running a highly successful education business, speaking on dozens of stages, and winning multiple awards - Kellie still felt something was “wrong with her”. She set out to determine why she felt overwhelmed and unfilled in business and life. That’s when she discovered HSP and the traits of a highly sensitive person. Kellie went on a quest to find a new way of living and working. Since then, Kellie has completely reset her business and reclaimed her peace. Now, she helps other highly sensitive entrepreneurs do the same through consulting, education, and "slowpreneurship". Find out more about Kellie and how you can work with her below! The holiday season brings a lot of extra to our lives leaving us with less energy and more overwhelm than usual as Highly Sensitive People. Extra stress, extra overwhelm and expectations, extra fun and joy but also extra food and extra sugar. We have enough to manage this time of year as HSPs without literally adding more to our plates. Today we’re talking about mindful eating with a BONUS Mindfulness Practice at the end of the episode! NOTE: To fully experience everything this episode has to offer you may want to listen to it at home or in another place where you feel at ease and where you have access to a piece of food- nothing elaborate or complicated is needed- just a small piece of fruit will do. "Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." Robert Brault Sometimes we can get so wrapped up in all the big things we're experiencing both externally and internally as Highly Sensitive People that we lose sight of the glorious gift of simply being alive. I hope you find this meditation useful. I am eternally grateful that you are here with me on this journey. Tonya ♥
On the surface it looks like we’re getting closer to one another— yet so many of us feel lonely during the holiday season. This can be a time of celebration, love, and togetherness but for many of us, it’s simply a time of loneliness and sorrow. According to the Roots of Loneliness Project nearly 50% of Americans feel lonely or left out. There are over 80+ distinct sub-types of loneliness (loneliness during the holidays being just one) meaning that whatever type of loneliness you’re experiencing others are feeling it too. If this time of year is especially painful for you, know that you are not alone. In this episode I share a few suggestions that have helped me and that you might like to try if you struggle with loneliness. They are things that you can try not just during the holidays but all year round. Is making decisions tough for you? Do you spend sleepless nights agonizing over what to do? Are you afraid to hurt someone's feelings or are you afraid of the consequences when you’re faced with a tough choice? As HSPs we often have a real fear of making the wrong decision and this can leave us feeling frozen and afraid to move forward spending countless hours agonizing over what to do. This is not only tiring emotionally but physically and spiritually as well. And if we don’t know to look for it, decision fatigue can be hard to recognize disguising itself as just a general sense of feeling weary from our environment and all the things we come up against every day as HSPs. Today we’re talking about making choices and decision fatigue, how it affects us as HSPs and how we can make the process a bit easier.

As a highly sensitive person do you ever feel invisible? Or maybe you feel only seen and appreciated for what you can do for others and how you make them feel about themselves, instead of for who you truly are. When we feel overlooked or dismissed on a regular basis it can increase our emotional distress and manifest in unhealthy ways through feelings of sadness, anger, envy and shame, it can affect our sleep, eating habits, and energy levels. Feeling rejected and ignored can lead us down a lonely path as HSPs, leaving us more isolated and disconnected and this is something we must be mindful of when it comes to our mental health. Welcome to your 5 minute Highly Sensitive body scan meditation practice. In this short practice, we’ll focus on centering and calming ourselves when we only have a few minutes to spare… but sometimes that's all we need to reduce our stress and overwhelm.
Remember that mediation isn’t always appropriate for everyone. If you experience any discomfort emotionally or physically it is perfectly fine to just stop, and remove yourself from the practice. The whole point is to feel better and peaceful. If you become uncomfortable at any time, you may open your eyes, or shift your attention to something else. Please do not use this meditation while driving or during any other activity where you need to be alert. This meditation may not be appropriate for some trauma survivors.
In this practice, we will explore different sensations in our body through body scan meditation. The purpose of this meditation is to connect to our physical self while noticing any sensations, sensitivities, or stress we're experiencing without judgement.

As HSPs too often we can feel isolated and misunderstood and this can leave us feeling lonely and can affect our self esteem and how we view ourselves and our place in the world. Researchers are beginning to understand more about how yoga benefits our mental health and because we’re highly sensitive we need yoga teachers and other healers to be supportive of our unique needs as Highly Sensitive People. Cindy Beers is an experienced yoga teacher, reiki healer, and author who specializes in the fields of Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and Stress. She is committed to destigmatizing mental health and encourages us to talk about our mental well-being: our emotions, our thoughts and feelings, so we can improve our ability to solve problems and overcome difficulties, increase our social connections, and have the tools we need to cope with world around us. Her published works include “Mindful Yoga for Teen Anxiety” and “Mindful Yoga for Adult Anxiety” and is currently writing her next book, "Yoga for Mental Health." In this episode we’re talking about apologizing- more specifically the habit of OVER apologizing. This may seem like a harmless thing on the surface but if we dig a little deeper we start to see that frequently saying sorry begins to affect our confidence and undermine our authority and when we say it too often it can make the necessary apologies we need to make seem insincere. Many of us can suffer from a lack of confidence and self-esteem because we’re taught that our sensitivity is wrong, that we’re being difficult and unreasonable and that our sensitivity is causing problems for others… so we fall into the habit of apologizing for things when it's completely unnecessary. So how do we start to stop over-apologizing? Join us in the Highly Sensitive Healing Circle! https://highly-sensitive-healing.mn.co/ (Highly Sensitive Healing Circle (mn.co))
I read article about HSPs and happiness and the author stated that HSPs need "permission to get emotional and have a good cry." As Highly Sensitive People we already often feel powerless to process all the emotions, sensations, thoughts and sensibilities that are pulsing through our bodies, hearts and minds day and night. All the while we’re trying to self-regulate all of these things as we navigate the expectations of others and cultural norms that consistently reprimand us when we can’t push all of our sensitivities down any more until they finally break through the surface. In this episode we’re chatting about feeling the need for permission or approval as HSPs to express our feelings and emotions. In this bonus episode I share a story about my recent adventure when I decided to climb a mountain. ♥♥♥ Excerpt: "As my hands rested on the tree a lightness came over me, as if I was being comforted by an old friend, who knew me better than I knew myself. A feeling of being rooted and at home there in that moment, telling me that I was welcome, that I belonged, that I was accepted, that I was loved. There were so many times, I could never count how many now , when it was all too much, the rejection, the criticism of family, the judgement of friends, the betrayal of broken relationships, the disappointments, the heartaches, the sounds, the smells, the overwhelm, the stress...the loneliness of being an HSP. Here I was almost at the end of a steep trail that wasn’t meant for me, close to the top of a mountain that I hadn’t known at all before today and I felt? Pure love. I felt acceptance. I felt at peace."
Saying yes to new things can be really scary. But saying no can sometimes hurt us more than help us. Comfort zones aren’t really about comfort at all, they’re about fear of the unknown. Saying yes in a healthy way is about being brave when we want to try something new for ourselves and taking a risk in order to improve our lives in some way. It can be hard to say NO to someone and even harder to say no when we want to be liked and included. And as HSPs we very often feel overwhelming guilt when saying no to someone so we end up saying yes and we put others needs before our own, even when it's not the best choice for our mental health. Today we’ll chat about 6 reasons to say NO and how to make it just a little bit easier! More Info Here: https://linktr.ee/highly.sensitive.healing

Everyone wants to be liked, appreciated and loved but positive nurturing relationships can be hard to find as highly sensitive people. Maybe like me, you grew up in a family that couldn’t or wouldn’t support your emotional needs so you have a strong need for reassurance and validation. Or maybe just living life as an HSP you’ve learned to judge yourself too harshly and it's affected your self-esteem so you have a lack of confidence and fear of rejection. As HSPs it’s too easy for us to overthink and overanalyze ourselves into an unhealthy state of mind. Here are 5 ways to take back your power and free yourself from caring about what others think! How can we live more from our authentic Highly Sensitive self? In this episode I share 6 of my favorite daily affirmations that can help us to let go of false comparisons, and allow us to live in truth, trust, abundance, acceptance, gratitude, and self worth. All lasting positive change comes from within. Everything we need is already inside of us, we just have to be open and willing. When we understand this, when we’re ready to let go of comparing our own highly sensitive journeys to others, we allow ourselves to tune inward. This short sequence was created so you can practice in your bed, with the use of pillows to prop yourself up. Some of the poses we’ll do will be slightly different when done on your mattress rather than on the floor. So have a couple of pillows nearby or some extra blankets. Consult your doctor if you have any preexisting medical conditions, or if you’re pregnant, to check if this practice is suitable for you. Let's get some sleep! Welcome to your 2:1 Breath guided sleep practice. (Vishama Vritti translated from Sanskrit as "Irregular Way", or "Uneven Movement") This breath is known to bring instant relaxation in mind and body, making it a great practice for bedtime. It involves exhalation twice as long as exhalation as it emphasizes extending exhalation slightly longer than normal. This often underrated practice helps to stabilize our thoughts and relax our nervous system in preparation for sleep and mediation. Let’s get some good sleep! NOTE: use this practice with caution as it often can make you sleepy quickly! Do not practice while driving or during any other activity where you need to remain alert. As an HSP Do you struggle with insomnia? Do you wake up in the middle of the night and struggle to get back to sleep? What if I told you that the way we’ve been taught to think about sleep may be completely wrong? When I discovered the history of how we used to sleep so many pieces started to fall into place for me as a Highly Sensitive Person! Roughly 62% of adults worldwide report issues with sleep, that they have trouble either falling asleep and staying asleep and that many of the medical problems that doctors see are related to sleep issues. In this episode we'll talk about the history of sleep and how the changes in our natural sleep patterns may be affecting as Highly Sensitive People. Connect with me! Do you struggle with boundaries? Or feel like you have an empty space inside that doesn’t ever quite get filled? Have people told you that you need too much attention or reassurance? Is it easy for you to jump to the worst conclusions about a situation? Do your thoughts start to spiral into a loop of anxiety and overwhelm? For the longest time I minimized what was happening to me telling myself that I must care about everyone else more than they cared about me. But as time went on I started to wonder why this empty space inside of me was never filled and why I couldn't seem to find peace and security in my relationships. As HSPs, it's painful when the love, affection, and emotional investment we make in others doesn't seem to be reciprocated to the same degree. Does this mean that we’re more emotionally hungry than other people? If you find that you're struggling please reach out for help. The H.A.L.T. method is one of my favorite self-care tools! H.A.L.T. is an acronym for Hungry Angry Lonely Tired
We know as HSPs that when our lives aren’t balanced we struggle and it's usually much harder for us to recover and renew than it is for non HSPs. We’re exhausted from working at jobs that drain us, from relationships that don’t always fulfill us, families that need us, from interactions with people that struggle to understand us. This method is simple to use and has been a huge gamer changer for me! We'll learn about each of these emotions and some questions we can ask ourselves to become more aware of how we're affected by them as Highly Sensitive People.
If your highly sensitive story is anything like mine you were told countless times growing up that you were too sensitive, too emotional, and too intense. I was taught by my family, teachers and many of my peers that there was something wrong with me because I reacted strongly to many of the things that were happening around me and to me. I want to share my story because I know I am not alone in the way our Highly Sensitive experiences shape and influence our lives. I hope that by sharing my journey it may be a little easier for you to share yours. More Info Here: https://linktr.ee/highly.sensitive.healing
Why is high sensitivity and showing emotion seen as a weakness? Being labeled as fragile or unhappy is commonplace for us as HSPs. We worry about what others will think of us and about being misunderstood. Yes, being highly sensitive can make us feel like we’re on a never ending rollercoaster of high octane emotion and sensory overload, yes it's draining and overwhelming but it also means we possess awareness. Do we fear being judged for our sensitivity? Are we worried that others might see us as weak if we take compassionate action to help? And how do we start to overcome these feelings?
