Following episode 8 of this podcast with Nick Smart of Crystal Blockchain Analytics, where we discussed the Bitcoin blockchain in the context of what the claimant is seeking in the case of Tulip Trading, Dr Wright’s team reached out to me to organise a recording to give his own views.
Following a two hour session, the podcast has been divided into two separate episodes. This week’s is about the man himself, his views on the history of digital money, what he says he did as Satoshi Nakamoto, including the reasons he says a pseudonym was made and where that name came from, who else, in his view helped create Bitcoin, and some of the clues left, considering, amongst other things C++ programming and the use of operating systems, why Bitcoin was released when it was, as well as the differences between Dr Craig Wright the man, and Satoshi Nakamoto the character, and why it was necessary, in his view to split the two.
The second episode is about the mechanics of Bitcoin, the differences between BSV, BTC and BCH, about decentralisation and what that means to him, crypto assets as property reviewing the Law Commission’s views, as well as Professor Robert Stevens’s paper “Crypto is not property”. We will also look at anonymity vs privacy, how if he won in Tulip trading he can enforce a judgment given global nature of the issue, his outfit NChain and its vision, and so much more.

In recent months the pensions press has been commenting on capacity issues in the buy out market. For schemes aiming to buy out, preparation will be key, and Suzanne, Adam and Becky discuss some of the steps schemes should be taking to stand the best chance of transacting in a busy market. The UK’s first official Hydrogen Week takes centre stage this week, bringing together stakeholders across the UK to celebrate and promote the role of hydrogen in reaching net zero (NZ).
Headed up by the North West Hydrogen Alliance (NWHA), the week, which runs from February 13 to 19, aims to bring together all regions of the UK to progress the nation’s role in the emerging hydrogen economy, and capitalise on the opportunity the sector offers for meeting NZ targets, and driving green economic growth.
Reducing our carbon emissions requires huge transformations in the way our industries are powered, connecting through the grid and heating our homes. Hydrogen is central to reaching NZ emissions, providing a low carbon fuel which can help us switch towards a greener future.
Developing a hydrogen economy is key to unlocking future investment, creating new jobs and boosting supply chain opportunities. Hydrogen is set to play a major role in helping the country reach NZ with the Climate Change Committee (CCC) predicting we will need 250 TWh of hydrogen by 2050.

Episode 5 of The COPcast sees the Shoosmiths Court of Protection team discuss the recently released feature-length programme on Channel 4 starring Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham.
The show features Comer as a care worker in her new job at a care home towards the end of 2019. She forms a close connection with Graham’s character, a man in his late 40s with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Just a few months in, the Covid-19 pandemic escalates and we see this play out in the care home as Comer negotiates the extreme shortages of staff, equipment, PPE and medical services.
