Your Life In America is a community radio show that broadcasts LIVE on KZAA LP 96.5 FM out of the historical landmark Casa De La Raza in Santa Barbara, CA. YLIA is hosted by Dillon Grove, with the goal of bringing the spirit of hardcore/punk, the struggle, the streets and the voices of the unheard to the airwaves.
APEX PREDATOR is a band from Federal Way, Washington with members from Odd Man Out, GAG and Crawl Space. They just put out their debut LP "Jesus Wept" on LDB Records and I had their vocalist Casey on the call in the show. We talked food, movies, moshing, Federal Way, Apex Predator and more. Seltzer is a band from San Jose, CA and features members of Gulch, Big Boy, Dare and Eightfold Path. They have played a handful shows after releasing their debut EP Chromatic in 2023. FIELD OF FLAMES is a straight edge band from San Jose, CA. In the last few years the Bay Area hardcore scene has blown up and is recognized internationally, but Field of Flames has been doing since putting out their demo in 2017. I had vocalist Justin Martinez on the radio with me for an interview on 4/27/24 and we talked San Jose Sharks, Blood for Blood, FOF origin, straight edge and much more. KHASM is a band from Las Vegas who is pulling off a sound unlike most of what you hear coming out in hardcore right now. Approaching the launch of YLIA on a new radio station I had my friend Nick (PD, In Time, Enthusiasm for Ruin Zine) on as apart of my final demo for KCSB radio. I had the whole band on air with me in June 2022 so I caught up with Nick about what's been up. Saviour Complex is a band from Moorpark, CA who just released a LP "Chance Your Arm" on Extinction Burst records. The Runts are punk band from Northeast Los Angeles that have been around since the early 2000's and reformed a few years ago. Since their return they have played tons of shows including Sound and Fury 23 and a rooftop, put out some new music and are currently playing a string of final shows before playing last official shows at the Lodge Room in February 2024. They put out a 5 song demo in 2021 and they've played a ton of gigs since then including Tied Down Fest in Detroit earlier this year. Sound and Fury 2023 took place during the entire week of 7/24 - 7/30 including multiple pre shows and after parties. The main fest happened outside at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, CA over the weekend and featured bands from all over the world both hardcore and adjacent genres. BIG BOY is a band out of San Jose that started in 2019 and they have put out a few releases on DAZE and played shows all over. Big Boy is easily one of the best live bands I've ever seen and one of my favorite bands doing it right now. Cola Boyy is an artist with a history in punk and hardcore in Southern California who started his solo project Cola Boyy about ten years ago and has toured with MGMT and played shows all over Europe. IN TIME was on the show in the middle of the pandemic October 2020 before I had ever met them and they had only played a few shows and just put out their demo. Since then they have toured, played tons of shows, put out an EP and shared the stage with Downpresser, Big Boy, Spy, Initiate, Raw Brigade, Dead Heat and Scowl just to name a few. Rejection Pact was on the show over two years ago and part of the first wave of real hardcore bands I had on so it was really cool to have Devin back on the show for a radio interview on 3/9/23 on KZAA LP 96.5 FM. When I got into hardcore in the early-mid 2000's I had no choice but to be front and center for the rise and peak of "amazing core" and the Rivalry Records epic releases. This era of hardcore is meaningful to me on a lot of different levels. I was joined by members of the band Fading Signal (North Carolina) took take a deep dive into "amazing core" and the Rivalry Records discography. We caught up on what's happening with Fading Signal and then we went into our discussion featuring some top 5 Rivalry lists and much more.
