Based on my experience as a businesswoman, I have to say it is really important to work with a team to support you and take care of details or tasks that either you don't have the time to do, or simply don't want to do. Join me today to talk about the three things I’ve learned that helped me integrate life and business while enjoying both sides. But before we dive in, let's take a minute to reflect on how these first few days of 2023 have been for us, it is ok to realize we have already diverted from the resolutions we set last year, but it is most important to realize we can always do better.

Tune in and listen to my experiences in this journey of integrating my life and business, how I learned the hard way that suffering in silence is a choice and the call that changed my life.

In this episode I talk about:1. How important it is to plan for time off, vacations, holidays, etc.

There are 6 more weeks of the year! That’s plenty of time to keep making progress and working towards new goals.

I had convinced myself that it would be just fine to coast for the rest of 2022. That it would be smarter to wait until 2023 to launch my new online business manager business.

And boy was I WRONG! I am so glad my coach gave me the push to start now.

I set a goal to get three client projects and I’m excited to tell you that I lined up three client projects in just about 6 days!

This week I am sharing with you an episode from a podcast I was featured on recently that peeled back all of the layers of an Enneagram 9 who was mistyped as a 6, but who has 3 and 8 wings! That was a mouthful, but if you are familiar with the Enneagram you can read me loud and clear. If you are new to the Enneagram, don’t worry, we’ll lay it all out for you in today’s episode!

You’ll listen to a conversation between me and Tracy O’Malley from her podcast, The Leadership Formula. Tracy is an enneagram expert and leadership coach on a mission to help you live your life by design!

The big question: How to be an Enneagram 9 who sets aside their desire to avoid conflict and comes into their voice?

Here are some of the topics we cover:

How can you tell if you’ve been mistyped on the Enneagram?

Does your self-preservation side hold you back?

Is your instinct to “keep the peace” causing resentment to build up?

Do you need help learning how to ask the important questions?

How do you set up boundaries and/or end relationships that aren’t serving you?

How do your Enneagram wings play into your whole type?

If you are wanting to dig deeper into your Enneagram type, get your Enneagram Blueprint from Tracy, NOW!

Do you ever feel like you just need clarity? Maybe it’s in your business or even your life in general, but wherever it is, it feels like we would be further along in life if we just had some clarity.

This past week I heard something that changed my perspective. You don’t need clarity, you just need to start taking action. When you take action, you create your own clarity. Don’t sit around and wait for clarity, especially when you’re doing something new. It’s never going to come! Instead, take action steps to achieve your goals and don’t be afraid to make the wrong decision. Remember this daily affirmation: every decision you make is the right decision.

As part of taking my action steps, I’ve decided to reach out to you! I’m now open to take on 5 new clients. Each client will get a custom project done as well as custom advice and pricing. Let’s help each other out and get in touch with one another!

Last weekend, I attended the EmpowerHer Live Event in Phoenix, AZ and it changed my life! Not only did I leave with a new job offer, I was inspired to change my life through Lori Harder’s amazing keynote, which asked…

"In what area of your life are you self-sabotaging that is keeping you from your big dreams and goals”

This question hit me hard and made me deeply reflect on what areas of my life was I self-sabotaging. I learned some very important things about myself. I learned that it’s important to surround yourself with people who love you, support you, cheer you on, and give you tough love.

So, what areas of your life are you self-sabotaging and what can you do to do better?

Busy season is finally over and this is about the time that I would normally be a hermit in a hole for 2 weeks before November inevitably comes around and busy season is back before I know it! After experiencing six busy seasons, I’ve finally learned enough about myself to keep myself ready for action all year around.

Figuring out what keeps you motivated even in your slow seasons is essential in preventing long slumps. For me, I’ve added two things in my life to keep me going throughout the whole year. These are attending in-person conventions such as EmpowerHer, and waking up everyday with the intention to win. I’ve also added personal pampering to my slow seasons, but preventing the urge to over indulge in sleeping and rest.

How can you do this for yourself? It’s easy! Start by mapping out the seasons of your life, then ask yourself these questions:

What do you need to do in those seasons?

What do you want to do in those seasons?

How can you start planning now for your next season?

With enough practice and self discovery, hopefully you will be able to keep your motivation up all year around! Remember, an object in motion stays in motion, and object in rest stays in rest.

Today's episode is short and sweet! I want to share what I've recently noticed when it comes to the amount of information, content, voices, music and noise that we receive every single day.

If you're anything like me you're consuming content to get through the daily tasks of your life with a little extra entertainment, inspiration and joy and that's a really good thing. Sometimes though, we should just hit pause and take a break.

Make sure you're setting aside some time to have quiet in your days. Let me know if you notice any little life changes resulting from this one choice.

How are you doing? How are you feeling today? If you feel like you are in the middle of something that is just a little bit too hard, confusing, or long, I just want to connect with you. I’m right here with you. There is a reason you’re going through it.

This might just be a season of your life, like the many other seasons you’ve endured before.

Or, this might be a lifelong constant you’re facing.

Either way there is a reason. Learn the reason.

Today I read for you the poem “A Reason, A Season and A Lifetime" by Brian A. "Drew" Chalker and I hope it offers you the peace that perspective brings and determination to carry on.

This week I had three pretty significant blows.

  1. I had to come down off the social and emotional high of the Powerhouse Women Event in Scottsdale, Arizona.
  2. I had to work 70+ hours as a CPA at my day job.
  3. And, I have COVID.

It’s been a rough week. What a great re-entry into real life, right? Actually, this week gave me an opportunity to apply everything I learned at the Powerhouse Women Event. I’m still going to show up and do what I said I was going to do. I’m not going to crumble when life is hard. I proved to myself that I will not disappoint myself. I feel strong and confident that even though I feel terrible physically and emotionally I kept my word to myself by doing what I said I was going to do.

You can build this same trust with yourself. Pick one hard thing today and do it. Take a picture and show me what you did on Instagram.

If you’re interested in making deeper connections with other women, I’d love to invite you to our book club! This month’s book is Atomic Habits by James Clear and we are meeting September 15th! You will be able to make deep connections and the best part is you won’t feel alone in business or life. If you want more information, text Book Club to (303) 529-2384.

I regret nothing AND I'm finally ready to step into the next version of Taylor.

I experienced some very real breakthroughs at a business conference last weekend that helped me explore who I will be one year from now. Through these exercises I learned that I DO know who I'm becoming. I'm a strong and confident business, tax and finance expert who empowers other business women to thrive.

In order to become your future self you have to confront the parts of you that aren’t coming along. Self doubt, for me, is not coming along. I am so much more and I have so much more to offer.

Remember our book club and read - Atomic Habits by James Clear. Read the whole book, half the book, or just the spark notes! We’ll have a conversation about the main topics and how we can apply them to our lives!

There are parts of our life that are going to fly by TOO quickly!

I asked a few of you what parts of life or business you wish you could slow down and really enjoy more.

Your answers were:

  • Networking
  • Being creative
  • Celebrating wins

Send me a DM on instagram so that we can work through what areas of your life or business you wish you could slow down and how to do it.

One way that I am going to help things slow down is making deeper connections & having intimate conversations with the women I meet. I’m going to be present and turn off distractions.

I am going to 4 or 5 events in the next few months. It is my intent to make 2 deep connections, friendships, relationships, I can walk away with. I’m going to set the intention to start enjoying new connections in my life and business.

If you’re interested in making deeper connections with other women, I’d love to invite you to our book club! This month’s book is Atomic Habits by James Clear and we are meeting September 15th! Trust me. I’m a “Non-Expert.” aka Time to get comfortable being uncomfortable!

Let me set something right. I’m not talking to you from the tippy top of a mountain where everything has fallen into place for me and I want to tell you how you can do it too. That’s what most podcasts are and that’s great, but that’s not what I’m doing with this show. I’m talking to you from a valley. I’m in the trenches with you, right now, figuring it out as I go and honestly, it’s helping me to talk out loud with you each week.

I’m not an expert. But I know we can learn from each other. And rather than focusing on education and teaching, let’s just share stories and experiences. Join my new book club. It’s a safe space to build community, make new friends, and there’s no pressure to show up as an expert. Just true content, holistic conversation and a chance to formulate your ideas here in a safe space so you can then turn to your community and express yourself confidently there.

Have you ever started something new? Maybe a new hobby, new diet, new morning routine, learning a new skill….

And you go into it with a strong positive mindset and outlook because you know you’re just going to crush it?!

You get started and things go well.. The first day, the second day, the third day, and right around the third day things start to fall off. You cut corners, pretend like you’re going all out… and then day 6 or 7 rolls around and you are just DONE. Time to quit, give up, try something new because this obviously isn’t working for you.

SLOW DOWN

It takes TIME to learn, do, implement something new. And it isn’t going to STICK over night.

There is going to be friction, and struggles, and challenges you face. And the sooner you are able to identify them, address them, adn create a plan to overcome them will set you up for long term success.

Think about setting a goal to get physically fit. You know that being fit requires exercise and workouts. But you have never been a big gym buff before so this was a bit of an intimidating task.

If on day 1, you put on your workout clothes, get in your car, drive to the gym, walk inside, head over to the squat rack and pop 55 lbs on each side of the barbell….. Chances are you aren’t even going to be able to get the bar out of the rack, let alone squat and stand back up.

And if you try this and fall over because you overestimated your abilities… you’re probably going to feel like crap. You may be sad, disappointed, frustrated, and you may even call it quits on your goal of getting fit.

NOW… what if this is how you tackled your goal to get physically fit.

Day 1. You put on your workout clothes, sit down on your bed and tie your shoes. THEN you take off your shoes and your workout clothes and get on with your day.

Day 2. You put on your clothes and your shoes, and you get in your car and drive to the gym. You sit in your car. You drive home.

Day 3. You. You put on your clothes and shoes, and drive to the gym, and today you walk inside!

Day 4… Day 5….

What you are doing here is building MOMENTUM! Newton’s 1st law says an object at rest stays at rest an object in motion stays in motion!

Without a runway an airplane can’t take off vertically up in the air. You need a runway to build momentum and create speed to put you in motion.

When you are doing something new, trying something new, building momentum will help create the consistency you need to keep going. Keep going when it gets hard, when you overestimate your abilities

MINDSET IS EVERYTHING.

The difference between “UGH, I hate that I have to go workout right now” and “I go to the gym because I am a healthy person.”

You are aligning your identity with the actions you are taking

One of the best mindset exercises is defining the person I am going to be… This is an exercise you can do right now. Pull out your sticky note, notebook, notes app… and write 5 I AM statements. And these should be statements about the woman, leader, entrepreneur you want to be.

Here are 5 of mine to get you started…

I am someone who prioritizes my mental and physical health.

I am someone who honors my time boundaries and commitments.

I am someone who nurtures my relationships fully.

I am someone who gets visible daily.

I am someone who takes decisive and efficient action.

Having these I AM statements help you easily shift your mindset from I have to to I get to.

I have to make a reel today. Because I get to make a reel today because I am someone who gets visible daily.

I have to tell Suzie I can’t work overtime this week; because I am someone who honors my time boundaries, so I get to tell Suzie I can’t work overtime.

Knowing who you WANT to be, helps you take action in the direction of BECOMING that person.

SUCCESS IS NOT DETERMINED BY RESULTS

Success is defined as who you are BEING.

The only thing you can control in your life is what YOU do. The actions YOU take.

Focus on your actions.

Set action based goals.

I want to spend a little bit of time to getting to know each other… I have a feeling we may be spending some time together…

Hi. I’m Taylor. Entrepreneur. CPA. Podcaster. Speaker. Dog lover. Dr. Pepper Drinker. Country Music junkie. And Pinot Noir connoisseur.

I grew up in a traditional family - my mom and dad have been married for 30 years. My mom works in payroll & HR. My dad manages tire stores. They had both been with their companies for 15+ years and that is what I wanted: Loyalty. Commitment. Career identity.

I was a great student growing up, of course, it was mandatory requirement in order to do the things I wanted.

I had to get A’s if I wanted to keep dancing….

I followed the “traditional” path after high school: college.

Neither of my parents went to college. It was a new experience for all of us….

I went to a local commuter college here in Denver because we couldn’t afford a big university with room and board. And, frankly was too average to get scholarships or financial support.

I worked. The entire time. I started working at age 16 in a local bagel store. (Which I loved and has made me the biggest bagel snob).... I hosted, served, bartended at Chili’s, and held a store key at retail stores.

From my perspective, I worked the two most difficult service industries and EVERYONE should be required to do so.

I was ALWAYS successful. I worked HARD. I always saw myself as the “outlier”. I did it all.

I struggled in college to find what I wanted to do and where I belonged and who my friends were.

I went from Criminal justice -> international studies -> international business -> accounting.

I was good at it. It came easily. I enjoyed the way it began to challenge my brain.

I quickly got swirled up into the accounting circles and career paths.

I was doing internships left and right, applying for different opportunities left and right.

I don’t think it hit me that I was different…. Until I was sitting in an interview for an internship with the largest public accounting firm in the world. The interviewer, Eric, asked me, “Taylor, what do you want to get out of this internship?” I paused a moment to gather my thoughts. I looked him in the eye and I said, “I want to find the place I can have a career that makes the most impact on the world around me.” I went on to explain that at that point in my life, I didn't have a big desire to be a mother or to make a million dollars - I just wanted to make an impact on the people around me … to leave a legacy. He looked at me and said something along the lines of, “Wow. That’s not an answer I’ve gotten before and did not expect to hear today.”

Since that day I’ve been searching for ways to continue to impact the people, community, world around me.

I’ve built and launched different businesses.

Network Marketing Businesses (at least twice), aTax Mentor/CPA Business and a Launch Strategy Business.

Nothing has given me the enjoyment, excitement, and IMPACT that I want to make on the world.

And well…. That’s why I’m here.

3 months ago… I had this moment where I wanted to burn it all down, to quit, to give up. I was crying on the couch to my mom and I thought it might be fine to just be a CPA. To just be a really good employee for the next 35 years of my life.

But there was a part of me that felt unsettled with those thoughts. The idea of sitting back, and just enjoying the ride. Doing what I had gone to school for, gone into debt for, told by society that, THAT is what I should do.

But I’m not okay with that. I know that I was put on this world to make a greater impact than tax returns and great client service, AND YOU ARE TOO.

You are MORE. More than your degree. More than your career. More than your family. More than your offers and services. More than what they told you, you were allowed to be.

Together, I want to walk side by side with you on this journey to discover what IMPACT you are meant to make on this earth.

At times it is going to be fun, beautiful, and exhilarating.

And at times, it might be difficult, emotional, and uncomfortable, but in the end, it will be worth it.

In his song, Kill a Word, Eric Church sings,

If I could kill a word and watch it die

I'd poison never, shoot goodbye

Beat regret when I felt I had the nerve

I'd pound fear to a pile of sand

Choke lonely out with my bare hands

These words represent the deepest desire and purpose I have for this podcast.

You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. And I’m here to support you… starting now.

Have you ever been asked to explain why you want to start a business or why you’re pursuing a certain dream?

Maybe you hesitate and clam up in these conversations.

Maybe you answer but circumvent the true answer and only provide fluff?

And chances are you do this because you don’t think your why, your story, your purpose is impactful enough.

The entrepreneurial space has trained us to believe that in order to matter, in order to be good enough, in order to make an impact… we have to have a crazy, whirlwind, up and down, traumatic, scary story.

One of the reasons I started this podcast is because I want to start speaking more. Getting more comfortable speaking in front of small groups, on podcasts, to one day speak on stages to hundreds of women.

And through discovering this dream…. It’s so sad the number of times I thought, “my story isn’t good enough.” I don’t have any value to share because I’m average… My life has been SO average. And chances are you’ve thought something similar whether it be a dream job or starting a business to help others. You’ve thought you’re too normal to stand out in the room, in the online space.

AND This just isn’t true.

The stories, why’s, and motivations that make the most impact have two things.

  1. They contain truth, authenticity and emotional, raw connections that build like and trust.
  2. They have relatability/ you have a story that your audience can connect to, understand, and identify with.

One of my desires is to build a community of women around this podcast, that are like minded, going through the same stage of life and discovery, and business growth.

Now imagine you came to me and said, Taylor, why do you want to create this community.

John Maxwell says:

Being relatable as a leader doesn’t mean being everyone’s best friend. It doesn’t mean saying or doing things that effectively bribe others into liking you.

Being relatable means being yourself; living an authentic, consistent life with the people you lead.

So the next time you get to share your story, your drive, your motivation… remember that your why is PERFECT.

Be you, be authentic, be relatable, and you will make an impact, you will go far and accomplish those big dreams and goals.
