As a recently graduated chemical engineer and incoming Ph.D. student, I recognize just how scary the journey to engineering can be, especially for students from underrepresented minority groups. So, I started this podcast to remove some of the mystery and to share my experience with the field thus far. I'll be sharing consistent episodes explaining the different paths you can take with an engineering degree, giving advice on how to avoid mistakes I've made, and interviewing various influential engineers in my life!

Dr. Bryan Bryson is a professor and principal investigator in the MIT Department of Biological Engineering. He also has an appointment at the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard. Dr. Bryson attended MIT for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees, getting his B.S. in mechanical engineering and his Ph.D. in biological engineering.

Dr. Paula Hammond is the head of the chemical engineering department at MIT. She is also an Institute Professor at MIT, the highest professorship at the school, and a David H. Koch professor. She attended MIT for her bachelor’s and Ph.D. in chemical engineering, and attended Georgia Tech for her Master’s. She heads the Hammond Lab, which researches nanoscale materials for drug delivery.

Matheus is a Ph.D. student in the University of Kansas’ pharmaceutical chemistry program, as well as a graduate research assistant in the DeKosky lab at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard. He pursued his B.S. in chemical engineering at the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, and he also has a M.S. in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Kansas.

K’yal is a 4th year Ph.D. student in the chemical engineering department at MIT. She is a researcher in Dr. Prather’s lab, focused on synthetic biology. She attended Spelman University, an HBCU in Atlanta, GA, where she got a degree in Chemistry, as well as CalTech in Pasadena, California, where she got her degree in chemical engineering.
