The most unexpected benefit in sobriety?
You learn the truth.
You learn that all those times you drank to relieve your anxiety, you actually made it worse.
You learn that those couple drinks before a date to make you more confident, actually reinforces the idea that you’re not a confident person.
You learn that drinking isn’t actually the problem, but that at the time, it’s the only answer you knew.
You learn that over time, the alcohol actually makes you less social, and more reclusive.
But most importantly, you learn that you get to love yourself again.
You get to be proud of who you are. You get to be proud of your choices. And you can lay your head on the pillow every night, knowing you’re going to wake up the exact same person that you were when you went to bed.
