Trauma is at the heart of much mental distress and problems of living. But many are unaware of how trauma has impacted their lives, or what to do about it. In this podcast, Steven Shorrock shares some insights from experience, both his own and a diverse range of guests. Each episode is linked to a song (mostly British and Irish alt-indie).
The podcast may be of interest to those seeking to better understand and recover from or help others recover from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), and other trauma-related conditions.
A diagnosis of PTSD or another mental health condition (or inherited neurodivergence) can come with a range of feelings. It is worth being. prepared for these and talking through them with trusted friends or professional help. PTSD is like a kaleidoscope of symptoms. These can be so confusing that people who experience PTSD often don’t know that they have the condition. But understanding this pattern of symptoms is the fist stage of getting help, and is the basis for diagnosis. This episode of Hostages concerns the difficult issue of diagnosis. While diagnosis is mostly accepted for physical health conditions, for mental health diagnosis can be problematic in several ways.
