Feeling like you canât relax - even when you have the time and space to do so? The truth is, weâve sort of normalized this feeling - this constant state of being âon.â To our over-stimulated brains, it becomes an addiction, a dopamine-seeking behavior like multi-tasking. Weâve gotten so used to being in a constant state of alertness that it becomes our baseline, but itâs far from the physiologic, rest-and-digest, tend-and-befriend baseline that our bodies need to stay healthy and our minds need to stay well. And itâs bothersome - the sleepless nights, anxiety, work-obsession, and time wasted on activities that isolate us from others keep us from living our most full & fulfilled lives.

The number one cause of hormone imbalance is STRESS. Not age, not genetics, not a bad roll of the dice. Stress - mental, emotional, and physical - can dramatically shift your hormone levels independent of all those other factors. And when I say âhormone levels,â I mean all of them. Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone are only the tip of the iceberg, though they are definitely at the mercy of stress and can create quite the mess if not balanced.

One of the easiest, most effective ways to manage chronic stress is by balancing your blood sugar. Having "rollercoaster blood sugar levels" that spike and crash over the course of the day (and night) is a huge physical stress trigger, exponentially increasing the output of cortisol, your body's long-term stress hormone. AND, wonky blood sugar levels lead to other problematic symptoms and disease processes like insomnia, chronic inflammation, type 2 Diabetes, and weight gain. And by weight gain, I mean an increase in body fat - which is a stressor in itself!
