Courage is not the absence of fear, it's saying yes when your heart whispers to go for it.

Su Carty’s journey is as unexpected as it is inspiring. From working as a nurse to becoming the first Irish woman elected to the Rugby World Council, Su has lived at the intersection of leadership, healing, and resilience. She helped grow women’s rugby worldwide, stood as a voice for women in leadership, and continues to empower others through her work in performance, wellbeing, and emotional health.

In this conversation, Su opens up about the power of teamwork, the lessons learned from setbacks, the importance of writing things down to free your mind, and why every small success matters. Whether you’re navigating leadership, chronic illness, or the everyday challenges of life, Su’s wisdom will leave you inspired to back yourself and take the next step forward.

💡 Key Takeaways

  • 🌱 The most unlikely paths can lead to extraordinary journeys.
  • ❤️ Leadership requires both strategy and heart.
  • 🤝 Change is never a solo act - “it takes a village.”
  • 📝 Write it down- clearing your head on paper frees you from stress and brain fog.
  • ✨ Celebrate every win, even the small ones.
  • 📞 Asking for support and mentorship is a strength, not a weakness.
  • 🐾 Even simple grounding rituals (like time with Su’s dog Ari) can be powerful.
  • 🔑 Setbacks can open doors to something even better — rejection isn’t the end.
  • 💬 Su’s message: Go for it. Back yourself.

Have you ever walked out of a doctor’s office thinking, “They didn’t hear me”? You’re not alone.

In this special minisode, Karen Dwyer shares the 10 most powerful lessons from her conversation with Dr Kelly Blodgett - insights that reveal why the healthcare system leaves so many of us feeling powerless, and the practical steps you can take to advocate for your own healing.

From why language matters more than we realise, to how hope itself becomes medicine, these takeaways will completely reframe the way you approach your next appointment.Key Takeaways 💡

  • 📝 Your story is data - keep notes before appointments so nothing gets missed.
  • 🗣 Words create power - “options” open you up, “needs” shut you down.
  • ❤️ Feelings are real data too - shame, fear, or anxiety are signals, not flaws.
  • ⏳ Time is medicine - healing can’t happen in rushed 10-minute slots.
  • 👂 Listening reveals the diagnosis - your patterns matter more than any rushed exam.
  • 🌱 Wholeness is the goal - not just symptom management.
  • 🧬 Biology matters - what’s “standard” might not be right for you.
  • 🤝 Partnership beats hierarchy - best outcomes come when doctors and patients decide together.
  • 🧠 The future must balance science and humanity - empathy + evidence in equal measure.
  • ✨ Hope isn’t fluffy - it’s biochemical rocket fuel for healing.

Trigger Warning: This episode contains discussions of sexual violence, child abuse, forced marriage, and honour-based violence. Listener discretion is advised.

In this powerful minisode, Karen Dwyer shares a deeply personal reflection on her full conversation with author, speaker, activist and survivor Nina Aouilk - known to many as @londonslifecoach. This is not just a recap. It’s a moment of reverence for a story that has already saved lives.

Nina’s story is raw, heartbreaking, and life-affirming. It’s not the polished narrative we often see in wellness spaces - it’s one that forces us to confront uncomfortable truths. From childhood abuse and forced marriage to sleeping rough and rebuilding her life, Nina's journey is a beacon of courage and transformation.

Karen revisits the most powerful moments from their original conversation – sharing 10 takeaways that highlight Nina’s strength, vulnerability and unshakable belief in the power of speaking up.

This is the truth we often turn away from and the truth we most need to hear.

🔑 Key Themes & Takeaways

  • Abuse doesn’t only happen “over there” - it hides behind respectable doors
  • Speaking out isn’t betrayal - it’s how shame dies and healing begins
  • Kindness saves lives - even a stranger’s gesture can be a turning point
  • Healing is messy, nonlinear, and holy - it takes courage to face the past
  • Real support means presence, not perfection
  • Social media can be a lifeline when used to tell the truth
  • The system failed Nina - but she is helping to fix it from the inside
  • There’s no expiration date on healing
  • You don’t need a polished version of your story to make a difference
  • One person believing in you can interrupt a lifetime of pain
