This week, I interviewed Bernie Godwin and Anna Hopper from Loving Our Students on Purpose to discuss building a culture of connection, joy, and responsibility in schools and personal life. We covered key concepts from our masterclass, like being a powerful person through self-management, using empowering language, and focusing on behaviour education over management. We also explored creating a culture of empowerment, where students solve problems independently. These strategies can transform our schools and communities. For more information on how to bring this to your school, email me at Connie@conniejakab.com
Have you ever been ghosted? It can be frustrating and confusing. such as fear of others' responses and a desire for self-preservation.
In this episode, I cover WHY we do this, and how to move beyond this relational tactic that throws us all off.
Feeling alone in a room full of people is a strange andunsettling reality many of us face. In this episode, I delve into the lonelinessthat can strike in our homes, marriages, and classrooms.
Drawing from personal experiences, especially the earlyyears of my marriage, I share how my husband and I overcame the feeling ofbeing disconnected despite being physically present with each other.Celebrating 25 years together, we’ve come a long way from those lonely days.
Inside, I offer practical steps to combat loneliness, fromidentifying desired environments to establishing supportive systems andcreating a common language around our values. Together, we can make sure no onefeels alone.
In honour of my 25th wedding anniversary, I'm sharing the lessons and principles that have helped my husband and I. But this episode isn't just about marriage—it's about building meaningful connections with anyone, whether a student, parent, friend, or partner. In this week's Brave Podcast I show you how to navigate unrealistic expectations, be able to extend the power of forgiveness, and managing your own emotions to enhance all your relationships. Join me to learn how to rise through the storms with love and resilience.
This is a recap of our final masterclass we did for educators, but these principles of having tough conversations can benefit any relationship. Tough conversations are hard to have, but when we don't have them we lose connection due to the lack of clarity. In this episode I reveal an empowerment model that can change your conversations (and some incredible one liners to get you out of meaningless arguments)If you're interested in chatting about how to bring this to your school, email me at Connie@conniejakab.com
Why the behaviour strategies you're using probably aren't working.
This video will give you tools to how to move to a more effective way of running your classroom so both you and your students can enjoy learning again.

This week I am interviewing one of my favourite innovators, Jenna Galloway, who took the struggle she had with mental health and turned everything she learned to overcome into empowering our young people.
She is the owner of Wymbin, a dynamic preschool that teaches mindfulness and emotional intelligence, and now she is launching the Fledge App - which they are calling mental mindcraft for kids to learn:
What are emotions?
What’s happening in my body?
How do I experience emotions?
They do this through three steps: Brain, Body, Breathe.
Parents and teachers can try Fledge for 30 days free! I highly encourage any parent or school to try this. Right now the Fledge team is looking for schools and parents who will give feedback. If this is you, please email Jenna at jenna@fledge.health
Enjoy the podcast diving into more of what this looks like and her inspiring reason for doing it.
This one feels brave to post.
I've been in the room with parents struggling with their child's teacher,
I've been in the room with teachers struggling with parents who are making their job of education hard,
I've been the parent in the principal's office with the teacher, principal and myself all banging our heads against the wall to help my boys.
In this podcast, I'm getting brave to see if we could move towards one another, to create powerful school cultures where these students can thrive.
You may not agree with everything I say on this, which is good. The question is: are we willing to get brave, move towards, and become powerful people who create something wonderous together?
If you're up for creating this email me at connie@conniejakab.com

Brave - where we make connection our goal at all costs. This is what I'm talking about with Debbie Pearmain on my Brave Podcast this week. Going where others are not. I loved this conversation with Joey Cofone.
Joey was born and raised just outside of New York City. Growing up he could see the tops of the Empire State Building and other skyscrapers from his bedroom window. As a youngster he voraciously consumed two things: Books and Mac & Cheese. With spoon in one hand and book in the other, Joey simultaneously tended to stomach and mind.
Eventually it was his love of books that inspired him to study Literature at Seton Hall University. He spent four years probing the minds of the greatest writers who had touched pen to paper, and along the way he picked up a passion for philosophy that had for years unknowingly fuelled his obsession with reading and art.
After four years of studying literature—consuming other people's work—Joey was itching to create some of his own. During this time he had been exploring drawing, psychology, and communication.
While doodling on his apartment walls one evening he realized (with the help of a friend) that he loved to make pictures. The very next day he applied to be an Illustration major at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, and a month later he moved to the city that he had stared at for so long from his bedroom window.
Considering the four years' worth of credits he had, his first semester was light on humanities classes. He took the opportunity to indulge in his curiosity for letters (it always relates back to the books!) and took a typography class. Needless to say, by the end of the semester Joey's phenomenal teacher had convinced him that Graphic Design allowed him to communicate in the manner he had been searching for.
Fast forward to today and Joey is working in New York City, every day walking between the buildings he had seen out his window for years.
He is the CEO of Baron Fig and the Author of Laws Of Creativity.
I can't wait for you to hear him this week on my podcast. Find out more about Joey at Joeycofone.com

Christal Earle has been a lifelong social entrepreneur. She was first introduced to landfill workers in vulnerable parts of the world in 2005, while helping to lead the Canadian youth charity she had co-founded, called Live Different.
What started out as a passion for social equality has grown into a love for people and the planet.
In 2017 she launched Brave Soles with $250, working with local artisans in the Dominican Republic. I believe your story can change someone’s life.
Don’t deny the beauty of SMALL
Bring what you HAVE to the table.
Find people who are similar to you and GROW TOGETHER.
What is your end goal?
My end goal for this podcast is to liberate your voice, get you sharing your story, and HOW and WHERE you do that.
Get your voice out there so people can find you!
Go live on Facebook so people know who you are and what you’re about.
There’s no better way to learn to speak than to get OUT THERE and go LIVE.
You cannot build an audience unless you show up to one.
Get out there and say SOMETHING!
Start SOMEWHERE.
Humans don’t connect through information but through EMOTION.
How do you get your message out?
How do I start?
How do I get on a “stage”?
This is the first week of 3 where we will be talking about this.
BEST WAY: Social media.
Not everyone likes it. It can be overwhelming. What platform do you use?
PICK ONE
You need to know your story and who your story is for.
If you want to bring change through your story then you are no longer the hero of your story.
Your audience is.
If they can’t put themselves in your story, then you’ve lost them.
They need to see where THEY will be.
This is the number one mistake speakers make. They want to get their story out there and share it, but they keep themselves as the hero and then wonder why others aren’t connecting to their message.
Where is your audience? Are they on Facebook? Instagram? LinkedIn?
Finding your audience takes time.
There’s no such thing as earning trust quickly.
Decide to show up every day on social media and show up REAL.
People need to know they are not alone.
You may have to experiment with what the audience wants and how to show up fully YOU.
PERMISSION GRANTED to show up to who you are!
To liberate your voice and story to be told!
Find YOUR voice and speak to your audience.
Now rock out to my friend Rubix’s song at the end of this with the determination to LIBERATE your voice to tell your story.
No one cares about your steps,
They care about identifying the grit between your A to B.
THEN they care about your strategies.
What has risen from the ashes of your life?
What does it take for you to reach your dreams?
Most people don’t reach their dreams because of this one thing.
To dream and have influence doesn’t mean you need to be an influencer on Instagram or be a speaker or in the spotlight.
What were your dreams and aspirations as a child? They serve as clues.
Awe and curiosity as a child lead us.
What’s always been there?
What have you forgotten?
You CAN be a mom and reach your dreams.
What have you been doing with the vast time you have?
People who reach their dreams are people who use their time well.
What is the mandate over your life?
FIND or come back to that ONE THING so when distractions come you know what to throw off.
There are opportunities that will come that will look amazing but they are distractions.
People who don’t reach their dreams have the all or nothing mentality.
Consistently show up every day with baby steps.
Consistency, constraint, daily showing up.
THROW off everything that hinders and run your race.
There’s a lot at stake if you don’t show up, but our tribe has GOT YOU!
Have you ever had a dream you thought was impossible?
A few years ago, I dreamed of doing a national conference. I thought to myself, “Who do I think I am to pull that off?”
What I’ve learned from dreaming big:
Rebellions are built on hope.
What is burning on your heart to rebel against that our society is just settling for?
Society’s issues are only there because you and I decide to put up with them.
What happens when we decide not to put up with them any longer?
All mass movements are built on hope and people like YOU and me showing up with what we have to create change.
I’m calling out to the revolutionaries to rise up.
Hope is nothing more than YOUR GREAT AWAKENING.
Little us saying a brave YES!
Heroes rise in crisis.

It’s time to turn your intention into action.

Dean Cayman:
If you want to go off and do big things be prepared for them to take much longer than you ever thought, cost way more than you expected, and be full of failures that are painful, embarrassing, and frustrating.”
Give yourself a 3-month goal for everything you are about to do.
People have asked me how I’ve done all I do?
I just chisel away day by day at things. Showing up working on projects bit by bit.
This is why I created the Brave Tribe Membership: daily tasks that will allow you to this time next year to have:
What if you had all of this done before next year? Do you want to look back and still not see these dreams happen, or do you want to be able to look back and see your dreams HAPPEN?!

What if it COULD HAPPEN?
People are waiting for you to show up.
This is my secret sauce of success!
It’s counter-cultural
It’’s rebellious
This ONE THING continues to bring me to new levels
The word that has saved my life is the word CONSTRAINT.
So not sexy.
Wait, don’t we want to hear YOU ARE LIMITLESS as a new year message?
My business partner taught me constraints.
I dream big. I think big. What constraints?!
Vanessa sharpened me.
She has shaped my life because she has taught me to think objectively.
DREAMS TAKE TIME.
Constraint is your best friend. It burns the chaff.
It makes you focus.
I have been refined.
My message has been refined.
My niche has been refined.
The more focused you are the better.
Constraint comes in the gift of team.
Submitting your gifts to others.
sharing the burden, the glory, the profits.
This takes us laying down our ego.
The word “submission” has been abused. It brings up emotion.
When we lay down our need to be in the spotlight.
When we submit to one another’s strengths we can glean from one another’s strengths.
I learn how to lean in and allow others to shine.
Other’s strengths can be ours.
This is what tribe looks like.
In order to be a part of a team, we have to lay a part of ourselves down.
We celebrate one another’s winning without jealousy or comparison.
What if we could reach our goals together?
I’m now an employee working for someone else and I have grown so much more by serving someone else’s vision. What I have been able to build WITH people did not come from being SELF-made or doing this by mySELF. I have found more joy and growth in working with others.
Acceleration happens in tribe.
If you want to grow, work with others. Join a team. Serve someone.
Those who build great kingdoms know when to lay theirs down.
2021, how can you do this with someone else?
Belonging is the key to pressing forward in our lives yet it feels so complicated. People hurt and wound us. We are constantly looking around for someone to see us.
Belonging sometimes feels out of reach.
When was a time you felt like you really belonged?
In order to discover this, I had to think about the times in my life where I had experienced rejection.
What was common? I gave the gift of myself to people who didn't value me, understand me, or receive me. Instead of seeing this for what it was, I tried harder, strived more, and became more of a people pleaser only to find that I was never good enough.
Belonging is something that has to be discovered alone.
I can’t expect anyone to provide that for me.
We often show up desperately looking for others to tell me who we are, and who others need us to show up as?
In that, we lose ourselves.
What if we were never meant to fit?
We cannot create belonging for anyone unless we have owned it for ourselves.
I’m not for everyone and that’s ok.
If you were for everyone you would never find a tribe.
We give the gift of ourselves to people and expect them to tell us of our significance but that is our own responsibility
The people who love you are already around you.
Stop looking for those from who you want acceptance.
What would happen like you already have significance? What would change for you to be able to live out your dreams FULLY YOU?
There will always be people who don’t accept us.
We have to be careful to not pass on heart wounds to others.
We can only do this by finding our own belonging.
Keep being brave when there’s no inspiring music behind you.
I often repeat this to myself: No one owes me anything: my husband, my kids, my closest friends - this keeps my expectations checked.
They are not responsible to create belonging for me.
The Tribe’s role is to AFFIRM and SURROUND.
What would it look like to know who you are and be able to come to a community fully you to be able to receive this?
Belonging to yourself comes first, then others can lift you.
People are human - they will let you down.
YOU do your own grit of your own life and search the crevices of your soul and then show up like that to a community that can now affirm you, hold you, and extend arms of welcome to you.
Twist: be careful what tribe you give the gift of yourself to. If you feel you can’t show up fully you, then that tribe may not be for you.
Remember
You belong.
Belonging is your birthright.
You are enough.
There’s a place for you in our tribe.

If you want to have influence: you are going to have to learn how to overcome opposition.
It used to destroy my heart, but influence is on the other side of opposition.
What do I mean by opposition?
It can mean a lot of things:
Opposition invites us into deep work.
My mantra is “Watch over your heart with all diligence for from it flows LIFE.”
My heart condition is crucial to my parenting, the ability to show up and use my voice of influence.
Opposition reveals something in us.
If I don’t know how to handle disappointment I can’t handle influence.
Disappointment forms us.
I must be able to trusted with loss, to be trusted with life.
Plant your loss and dream from the dirt again.
Being brave is dreaming from the dirt.
Plant your loss.
Book mentioned: Significance by Bill Johnson

Does the word “influence” scare you?
Have people, experiences, labels put you in the corner?
Is bravery for ME?
You may say, “I’m not talented. I lack skills.”
It’s time for what is dead inside of you to come to life again.
It’s a new season.
Where you are buried is where you are PLANTED.
If you’ve been buried life can happen again.
Where there is death there is life.
REAL culture change happens here.
What has made you?
The darkest moments of my life has shown me WHO I AM.
I found my bravery in defeat.
Show up for yourself because you’re worth showing up for!
Influence is about empowering others - grabbing them by the hand and not letting go until they remember who they are.
I SEE YOU.
You don’t have to do this alone.
Welcome to the podcast where we are buiding BRAVE TOGETHER.
What does it actually look like to step past crippling anxiety to step out to be brave?
My commitment to bravery has been tested numerous times in my life.
To be brave is just to SHOW UP
We often don’t see the small things we do to be brave.
I dare you to move.
I didn’t think I had what it takes.
Bravery isn’t formed by great talent, or by having our dreams achieved or our goals met.
Bravery is in the dirt.
Bravery happens when you show up to hard things.
Growing our capacity on the inside is mentally, emotionally, physically and even spiritually exhausting.
We live in a culture that tells us to hustle.
REST is where bravery slow-cooks.
The balance is knowing when to get out of bed and when to stay there.
Shut off the noise and listen to what you need.
Once bravery is formed in you in the fire, it can never be stolen.
The statement:
I CAN’T.
I DON’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES.
Replace it with “This is hard”
say it as many times as needed.
This is hard doesn’t sugar coat the fact that this IS hard.
“But I can do hard things.”
You’re reminding yourself of the truth.
Our minds like to lie to us and tell us, “You’re not cut out for this”
This is shame.
We see you shame and we call you out and we declare war on you.
It’s not ok that shame has
Every part of you has been wired to handle hard things.
It’s not the talented who win at the end it’s the consistent.
The ones consistent to show up - even in the dirt, hair messed, no make up on, sweatpants with nothing to offer other than a broken heart.
Those ones who show up in pain and suffering…
Those are the ones who will win.
Show up when it’s hard and then show up more.
You are not alone.
Your days of journeying alone are over.
Shame loses its power in the light, but really loses in community.

When we want to start using our message, what happens?
Our voice might shake.
It might get shut down.
So many say to me, “I want to share my message, but I stepped out and it didn’t work.”
I’ve been there.
“I dreamed big but it didn’t work out.”
If you have had a promise or something you’re holding onto waiting,
You know you have something to offer the world but it didn’t work out.
Sometimes the darkest moments of our life is necessary.
Capacity is built in our lives through valleys.
We can so easily feel forgotten in the valley.
In the valley my heart was being built.
WHO YOU ARE is built in the valley.
It creates resilience to withstand even the largest storms.
What ground are you standing on?
I was following all the rules and performing in order to be successful,
and in that I lost me.
Be willing to push through what most won’t push through.
A brave person with a message for today, you will be standing against giants.
What are you going to do if you don’t know who you are?
Those who know who they are will not be shaken.
They will rise.
The temptation today is to look good and perfect, but not to BE good.
The road to BEING good and carrying capacity to shift culture doesn’t come from your talent, it comes from the depths of your soul.
You have so much more inside of you than a weary soul
Capacity has to be built.
I was in the wilderness for 7 years.
But 7 years later I ROSE with bravery, perseverance, and compassion.
Success doesn’t call these things out, valleys do.
Platform and self ambition had to die inside me.
You must rise. I am contending for it.
I’m calling you forth.
More is being built in you than you know.
Rise up.
I dare you to move.

I’m calling the adults to put our stakes in the ground.
We need to overcome so we can teach our youth that they can overcome too
We need to ask:
What am I passing on?
What am I leaving as a legacy?
What am I passing on that will make a young person’s life better?
We show up to our dreams
There are solutions and ideas hiding inside of YOU right now that is going to impact them.
Today’s kids are different.
Teachers are having a hard time teaching these kids and bringing them closer.
It takes bravery to love prickly people.
Your school/workplace and home is a “community”.
Resilience: how I recover from difficulties
Resilience doesn’t come easy to kids who’ve had trauma.
We can’t give up on the hard ones.
We can’t give up on prickly adults.
Trusting people is an issue for most people.
We don’t know how to show up for the long haul for people.
People are crying out for people who will show up for the long haul.
People are crying out to be understood.
So many people don’t feel understood: labels, judgments.
Put up walls and armour.
We see everything through heart wounds and trust no one.
Bringing people closer means we have to be willing to show up for the long haul.
Not making behaviour the goal but to journey with.
DO YOU SEE ME? Will you understand me?
Look underneath behaviour. Behaviour is communication.
What’s it saying?
The brave will find out.
Belonging creates resilience.
The number one thing we can do: CREATE BELONGING.
There are hurting people right next to us.
Imagine a teacher seeing that ODD kid, or the child missing so much school, instead of judging them we say I SEE YOU - we call out the potential and growth opportunities in you.
I”m not going to let you go until you know this about yourself. I’m going to celebrate your small wins. I’m going to remind who you are the whole way.
I’m going to teach you what it looks like to walk through hard things
This has to be created. WE create it.
The only way you can create it is if you know you belong and know who you are.
Do you know you belong?
We need to rise out of our shame and inadequacies and remember you are so you can call this out in others.
We live in a world where we are told to believe in yourSELF, love yourSELF, do it yourSELF
They need you to see them where they can’t see themselves so they CAN start loving themselves, believing in themselves.
It doesn’t take just SELF it takes a TRIBE and bravery rises in tribe.
Every home is a tribe
Every school classroom is a tribe
Every workplace is a tribe
It’s OUR role to be the culture creator of my tribe.
Everyone will leave my presence knowing their great worth.
It starts with YOU.
