In a beer glass a long, time ago there came forth the Reinheitsgebot. Sorry about that phlegm in my throat. The Bavarian Purity Law declaring that true beer is made of water, barley and hops. What does this have to do with this podcast?
Basically nothing except that both are made in the name and love for beer. In this podcast follow the Ron, Darrell, Kevin, & Mark as they meander through the Ohio beer and brewery culture that has sprung up through out the this great state.

After a break that was too long we are back and we are starting it off right. We have Lindsey and Jason Roeper of the Rivertown Brewing Co. With so much changing and going on at the brewery it is a great time to catch up and learn what is going on.

Some stories that found their way onto our desk concern the open container districts law in Ohio, a new mega beer collaboration, the legal issues of beer trading and bring back an old friend to the Cleveland beer scene. Not looking for spirits but examining the buildings that were the life blood of the pre-Prohibition brewing industry. Bret gives us some of the details for this project and the breweries he will visit along the way. One of the areas to be featured in the documentary is Over The Rhine in Cincinnati. Episode 58 takes us south of the border into Covington, Kentucky as we talk to the boys of the Braxton Brewing Co. The entire team joined us for the interview. The team consists of Evan Rouse, Richard Dubé, Jake Rouse & Greg Rouse. Looking to open this year Braxton Brewing is quickly building a following. Paul Benner of the Cleveland Brew shop is back for his second interview on The Ohio Beercast. This time he has come to talk about his new venture the Platform Beer Co. (PBC), slated to open in June of 2014. PBC looks to become a leader in the brewing industry by creating great beer and providing a foundation for budding brewers looking at the next step. With fresh ideas, a solid team of brewers and workers the Platform Beer Co. will quickly become a beer lovers destination.

So who is Rick Blankemeier and why is he so afraid of Godzilla? Well I can't give you an answer to the second part, but for the first half Rick is half of Team Spröcket. Rick and his partner Robbie Chandle both work for Stone Brewing Co and are the winners of the Stone Spotlight Series. A competition that pitted teams of Stone Brewing Co employees in a brewing competition where the prize was national distribution of the winning beer to the 41 states Stone Brewing Company currently delivers their beer.
Team Spröcket won the competition with their Spröcketbier, which is a black rye Kölsch. You will find this beer at a bottle shop near you starting April 21st.
The 54th episode of The Ohio Beercast has Darrell roping Chris of Queen City Fresh into joining him at the mic for the usual beer roundup episode. Again we find beer dancing in the political arena with trickles of news coming out about the new ABV proposal, a sin tax rebellion taking place in Cuyahoga County and Kasich touting himself as a pro beer politician. We also drop some knowledge bombs and thoughts on the areas of defining craft beer, new FDA standards around the corner and of course births, expansions and anniversaries. 8 Days of beer and fun starts on February 6th at the annual Cincinnati Beer Week. Ron and Darrell tracked down Lindsey, the President of Cincinnati Beer Week, to get the latest scoop & information on those 8 jam packed days. With over 160 events it can be over whelming, but we took the opportunity to ask the head cheese to give our listeners a path for surviving Cincinnati Beer Week. Well sort of.
We have survived the brutal cold, illness and our own general user error to bring you episode 44 of The Ohio Beercast. What might you find in this intriguing show we call a beercast? Based on the idea of community, FSBP is the first co-op brewery in Ohio for a good number of years. Currently OBC is transitioning out of their old location to build out a new location and get settled in. Toledo is getting a new brewery in 2014 and that Brewery will be Black Cloister Brewing Co. Black Cloister Brewing is headed up by Tom Schaeffer with a great team helping out. Springing out of Tom's work as a minister at his Lutheran church. Pulling from that history the team at Black Cloister Brewing Co. have found their passion in beer.
Alone on recording night Darrell borrows Chris from Queen City Fresh to fill in the void. Our yellow brick road into the beer world takes us to some national/local kickstarter projects, block parties are in the news again, megatron of the beer world could be taking shape and of course beer events in your neck of the woods. We pulled Emily, the head brewer at Portsmouth Brewing Co., away from the fermenters for an interview to learn more about Portsmouth. The Portsmouth Brewing Co. is the oldest brewery in Ohio having it's founding in 1843. The brewery was resurrected in 1997 by the Mault brothers.
Back in the saddle again, Mark and Darrell are back and waxing poetic about beer. We've got some KickStarter projects on the radar, the government shutdown - beer - you, and how the Northeast beer scene has taken center stage into leading the great state of Ohio. Sitting in a tap room down by Xavier University, we were able to wrangle Jason Brewer and Kevin Moreland into an interview. Starting in 1991 as a Homebrew supply store, they expanded to commercial brewing 5 years ago cultivating not one but two beer brands.
Episode 26 of the Ohio Beercast marks the beginning of the Fantasy Ohio Beer League season. Mark and Darrell run down the 32 beers that were nominated by the masses, broken down into 4 divisions. Josh utilizes his 13 years of writing about beer to craft this book to give people the tools to better understanding beer and in this interview we talk about his book, Josh's first craft beer memory and problems with penguins.
