Initial Remarks:

This is a prayer from David - that in itself is fascinating.
That's also to say that it's fine using prayers as a basis to learn about prayer.
What I note in this prayer that has requests and praise is that it's based on the God of the Track Record
Let's explore the psalm a bit more carefully

Vs 1-7

Essentially this section is David looking to God for help in different ways
The demands to God come thick and fast - but they're pleas rather than urgings of a superior
Worth exploring the various ways in which we seek God's attention
Within the request is a clear understanding of knowing who he's talking to

vs 8-10

Making much of God
Interesting insight into the global magnificence of God
That exclusive statement is a masterful simple statement about Him

vs 11-13

In the light of who He is, we submit to His ways
Request for closer harmony and union
In the light of who He is, thanks are due
Know what God has done to the nth degree

vs 14-17

The crux of the matter - under the cosh from opponents
The request is still in the light of God's character
Heart of the request - specific and clear
Fascinating request at the end - not just something for him, something for the enemy to know
Refrain of the God with the track record

Prayer can be intense
Relationship matters in prayer - who are we and to whom are we communicating?
Prayer is about acknowledging the character of God to whom we make the request
Prayer is about the request we make to God

Reflections for future prayers:

Use the opportunity in prayer to make much of God;
Be clear and specific in your request to God - similar model and structure that Jesus gives in His guide to prayer

Welcome to Word In Word Out

If you're wondering, what is Word In Word Out? this is the place for you because I hope to briefly set up what it is.

My name is Christopher Dryden and among other things, I love Jesus Christ and engaging with the Word He's inspired. This podcast is part of that love. I get the privilege of sharing this passion with others in the word online through blogging, articles and videos, and in the word through Christian fellowship and in the word in the context of my family.

Here on Word In, Word Out, the aim is to support a love for God's Word to get it into our thinking and then see how it's worked out in our words and actions that help shape relationships for the glory of God. Hence you get the word in so you can work the word out.

How that works on this podcast is that we establish a topic that's important to Jesus, consider how it's important to us in the light of His Word, explore that word and see how we can take it in and work it out in the context of life in a world that is not keen on people truly being faithful to God and His Word.
