Body positivity and body neutrality are two different concepts in the body image healing space. And I don't think either are exactly right.

We don't always feel positive about everything. And feeling neutral or attached to what our body is capable of, doesn't really serve us either.

Tune in to this week's episode to learn more about

  • body positivity vs body neutrality (and why I don't really use either option)
  • What I do teach my clients (and what I did myself) to heal body image and feel more comfortable with our appearance and physical abilities.

Does food cause you stress? Anxiety? Pride for eating the right ways? This type of emotional response to food adds to a complicated relationship with food. Food can be morally neutral. Diet culture teaches that you’re doing good or bad based on how well you’re following those lifestyle changes. But food can just be food. Food can be simple.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • What is food neutrality
  • Unlearning “good” and “bad” foods
  • Steps for a more neutral and easy approach to food

Intuitive eating currently isn't the most popular choice. It's not the normal way to go about eating. And while one day I dream to see everyone having a simple and easy relationship with food, I acknowledge not everyone believes that's possible. Which makes it difficult for people to pursue intuitive eating when they feel people may reject their choice.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • The feeling of belonging we get by a similar goal

Our minds like to focus on the negative because our brains see that as a way to prevent danger. So we tend to focus on the no. And often in intuitive eating saying no is associated with restricting.

The fear of saying no to food leaves many people feeling stuck afraid they'll go back to restricting their food and fall back into that old mindset. It makes it difficult when people try to navigate saying no to food that sounds good because it doesn't make them feel good.

The trick is to realize when saying no to one thing, you're really saying yes to another.
