Guyana was an integral part of the Navy Rum Blend and to this day remains a powerhouse in the rum world. In this session, we're honoured to present Shaun Caleb (Master Distiller, Demerara Distillers Ltd) to explore the rich heritage of Demerara Rum and its incredible historic stills.
Hosted by Mitch Wilson (Global Ambassador for Black Tot Rum) & Dawn Davies (Head Buyer at The Whisky Exchange).
The Navy blend was unique in many ways, but one of the most distinctive was that all of the rums added to the blend would have been transported by barrel at sea. This constant movement on the waves increases rum's interaction with the barrel, and in this session we speak to Alexandre Gabriel (Plantation Rum) and Don Benn (Head Distiller at West Indies Rum Distillery) who have been experimenting with 'Dynamic Ageing' at sea, and looking at the impact it has on the rum inside.
